System Rescue and Restore

For some reason when I open Lenovo Think Vantage Tools my Rescue and Restore will not open.
I had just had it open yesterday...
Is there a  way to fix this?
Not too sure what's going on, but I'm hestitant to call priority tech support because they seem to push me towards a reformat and I just don't think it's that serious.
Is there a way to download the System Rescue and Restore option in the Lenovo Tool?
What do you think?
Thanks.

  • Rescue and Restore

In the past, when in R & R using my hard drive, I was prompted to choose a date from several given. There are no such dates listed now and I am unable to manually type in one. How do I proceed from here to recover?

    1. It is came pre-installed, but not with vanilla Windows 7 but with Lenovo-flavored Windows 7 (Win7+Lenovo drivers+Lenovo software+non-Lenovo pre-installed software/trialware). It is the equivalent of OEM Restore Disks you got in the old days. There is a function in Rescue and Restore to create Factory recovery media, which will create optical or hard drive copies using the Q partition (one-time deal).
    2. No, I don't think the Q partition is for your backups, it is only for holding the restore system image. After you run "create factory restore media" (see above), R&R will offer you to delete Q partition to free up space (you can choose yes or no.) If you no longer want it, choose "yes" (to delete Q partition), and then create a new partition for backing up.
    3. As far as strategy, that's a big question. You can backup to a hard drive partition, but then you should copy backups to an external USB disk periodically in case the hard drive fails (there is a function to copy backups in the Advanced mode of R&R). You can also backup to an external USB drive, but if you schedule backups, the USB drive should be plugged in during the time of backup. The third option is backup up to a network drive, but then it also has to be available for mouting when scheduled backups run.
There is a manual that comes with R&R (see Help.)

  • Rescue and Restore Backup

On a Windows 7 system, can the backup be scheduled?

    There1 wrote:
Nope. lol  Like I said before I restored to factory settings before and I usually just went to rescue and recovery, clicked on don't save anything and factory restore.  I didn't have to insert any type of recovery discs set, do you know why now it's asking me for them?
I might add that I recently had my T510 sent in for MULTIPLE repairs that were a complete dud.  I have that infamous whine noise smh.  They ended up replacing my hard drive and mistakenly downgraded my OS to 32-bit.  They didn’t know I bought Pro-64 smh.  I told them and showed them that I did purchase 64 when I customized my laptop so they ended up sending me a recovery disc set with the OS and drivers.  I used those to do a factory restore, basically did a clean reinstall right?
Yeah you should be good. Now would also be a good time to burn another recovery disc set since you can burn one after each restore, this way you will have a backup.

  • Windows 8 full system backup and restore to new laptop (system with 32GB mSata Cache)?

Hi, I have a new Envy DV7-7205 which has 2TB storage with 32GB HDD Cache (or mSata, not really sure how it's implemented). I need to return the laptop as it's faulty but I would like to startup on the replacement exactly where I left off.
Are there any special methods required to backup and restore the system image from the old laptop to the new one, particularly with consideration to the 32GB SSD cache, as this doesn;t seem to appear as a distinct "drive" on the system.
Please can anybody advise the simplest, safest method to move my entire system from old to the new laptops (should be exactly the same spec machine).
    Many thanks,
    Greg

    Hi,
Firstly I don't know how this is going to work on new machine because the Windows 8 lisence would NOT work at all.

If your iPhone is jailbroken then it doesn't have a virus.
Your problem is most likely something else and the chances of your computer catch it are nonexsistant.

  • Operating system install and restore, sort of

My Superdrive extension became corrupted and it wouldn't read any DVD's. Long story short, the answer was to erase and re-install Snow Leopard, then bring back my settings/software without bringing back System or Library folders. My SuperDrive now works and I've brought back a lot of my stuff, but I'm looking to bring back some more detailed info, such as widgets, old calendars etc. I couldn't use the "Restore from TimeMachine" option, because it would bring back the bad extension. So is there anyone out there who could describe a way of bringing back such info, without having to select each individual program and restore it, without bringing back the elusive bad extension? Thanks

Use the TM application to restore individual files. Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine." There is an article on how to restore files and folders.
See, also, User Tips for Time Machine for help with TM problems. Also you can select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to locate articles on how to use TM. See also Mac 101- Time Machine.

  • Original Operating System Disks and Restore CD's

Trying to determine and locate the proper operating system and restore disks for an ibook G3 800mhz 12" Don't want to waste money on the wrong disks. Can any one identify the part number on the original os disks and the restore Cd's?
Thanks in advance for the replies. This forum has helped alot if the short time I have been a Mac user. I wish I jumped sooner. Two Macs at home now and counting. This laptop is so good I cannot wait to upgrade to something even newer!

If you try to obtain them anywhere except from Apple (the best option, probably), keep in mind that there were two different versions of the 800 MHz G3 iBook. The first version has a Combo drive (reads DVD's; reads and writes CD's). The second has a CD-ROM drive (reads CD's only). The second version will not be able to use the system discs for the first.
In order to avoid this confusion, contacting Apple to see if you can get the discs directly from them is likely the best option.
    Good luck.

  • XI System backup and restore for the JAVA Stack

    Hello experts
I am few queries regarding backup of XI System.

2- Should I backup the J2EE Engine also with Jload and Java migration toolkit, when I backup the XI System?
3- If XI system crashes, what is the procedure to restore XI system from backup?
4- Do I have to restore the J2EE Engine also from backup with XI with the help of Jload and Java migration toolkit. If so, what is the procedure on AIX OS?
5- If I take a backup of XI system, after 3 days the server crashes. When I restore the backup, how should I recover the lost messages of 3 days?
Kindly help me out with these issues. If anybody has any documents, kindly email me at [email protected] Points will be rewarded for any kind of help. Thanks a ton in advance.

    Hi Bipin,
This blog contains very little info. It says zip the XI files and extract the compressed zip files. Also it talks about backup of registry.
I am on AIX OS. How can I backup the registry in AIX? Also how should I zip all the files and extract those compressed files during restore. Is there any SAP utility to do that. Kindly let me know.

  • System backup and restore

    Hi, all
This thread mentions a method to store a backup of relevant parts of the filesystem, and how to restore it. Akin to windows system restore.
    gazj wrote:
Using tar is the most simple way smile
    tar cvpzf backup.tgz --exclude=/proc --exclude=/lost+found --exclude=/backup.tgz --exclude=/mnt --exclude=/sys /
This will create a file backup.tgz in your / folder
To restore - Just do a base install and run this command or you could even untar it into an empty partition from the install cd
    tar xvpfz backup.tgz -C /
Is this still ok to do? It seems simple and effective enough.

Yes it should work - there are lots of other options here.  Personally, I find rsync to be much better suited to such a task.
But I mainly wanted to comment to disuade you from doing it exactly as you describe: a backup of a filesystem saved on that filesystem wouldn't be of any use in the times you'd really need it.

  • HELP! windows 64bit upgrade & rescue and restore option

I recently bought a W510 with Windows 7 Prof 32bit. Then, I used a seperate Windows 7 Prof 64bit to boot from the disc and installed 64bit Windows 7. My questions are,
Is there a way to save an image of my current setting of 64bit Windows at the Q partition?(which strangely have changed its name to D partition after 64bit was installed.)
What is the best way to save the current image if hidden partition can not be used? (I want to be able to format and install my windows every now and then without going through the hassel)
Should I delete Q partition is it is no longer needed? (if it can only restore to 32bit and if I no longer plan to use 32bit?)
Thank you in advance for your reply!

if you plan no longer to use recovery system and 32 bit operation system, you can delete the hidden partition.
as i read somewhere in the forum, you can update hidden partition.
but let me ask you this, after installation 64 bit, hidden partition became visible?

  • My T61 always boots up into ThinkVanatage Rescue and Restore - Its madness!!

I installed a fresh XP pro on a machine, updated all the drivers and installed both SP2 and then SP3. I believe the last action was installing SP3 (XP), create a new restore backup and possibily installed the modem driver.
Now, when i start up the machine it boots directly into ThinkVantage. I cannot get into XP. My bootsetup in the BIOS is the factory defaults. I can see all the windows files but somehow i cannot get out off ThinkVantage.
I have been sitting with this problem for days now and would really appreciate some help. An no, the ThinkVantage button is not stuck.

Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

  • System rescue and recovery

I acidentally erased the Q: drive.
I created a partition on my hard disc named D: drive.
How do I use that partition for backup/restore?
    Thanks
    x201....3249-CTO....i7....4GB RAM....64-bit OS....Windows 7

It depends ... Did you create a factory restore CD before you did the partition? If you did then there is no need to order the factory restore CD. If you didn't then its no longer possible to create the factory restore CD after you have altered the partition of the disc

I have a Y2P (i5) ... Feel free to ping me if you want me to test some applications with your Y2P if you have the same model. I don't mind keep doing recovery on it if needed .... =)

  • Rescue and Recovery to an other system

After a (total) breakdown of my ThinkPad T60, I want to get some files to my substitution system (a Lenovo R61i). The R&R was made to an external HDD. The support of Lenovo has said, that Recovery is only possible to the same system, from which the R&R was made. I can't believe that.
Actual situation: The Lenovo can't find the backup files, so a restoring isn't possible. Username and Password of the newer system are identical.
Know s.o. the trick to restore?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Prognosis: Quite difficult
As they have said the program does not allow restores to second computers.
It is possible to do so however if you fool Rescue and Restore into believing that the share is the one created by the new computer (R61).
You can follow the information on this forum: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=303431&sid=45f27821ff463c8cd3379a7e509edab1
Basically the guy created a new backup to the same network share as the old PC and then changed the network share to reflect the old backups. He also had to configure Rescue and Rescover on the new Thinkpad (not the same model) to match the backup hardware specification. However, this user had R&R 3.0, not the latest 4.2, and I cannot find TVT.TXT on either the backup folder or the source computer within 4.2. I suspect this has been changed and it may be more problematic...
As you are doing this from an external HDD you will need to make a copy of the RRBackups folder on the HDD (preferable to another computer or server) as the new backup from the R61 will overwrite the existing folder.

  • Rescue and Recovery "File is in use and can't be copied" errors - T61 - WXP

    Hi and thanks -
When Rescue and recovery backs up, I frequently get  the error message, "This file is in use and can't be backed up.  Close all programs and try again" [my paraphrase].
Here is everything I have tried:
Restarting Windows and backing up "clean" - I have also attempted doing a "Clean boot" by stopping all services in "msconfig". - still got many of the error messages.
Starting in Safe mode - Rescue and restore doesn't work at all
Starting up in "ThinkVantage" and doing a backup from there - Rescue and restore will restore from a previous copy, but will not back up.
This backup error has gone on ever since I bought this macine used in January 2011, and I have never cared much.  But recently the machine had a "fatal error", and all of the backups were useless.  I had to comletely restore the machine to factory settings, which means I had to re-load all of my data and programs - an arduous task.  I do not want to meet this same fate again.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks!

Have you tried running a backup with your virus scanner / internet security software turned off? Sometimes these software can "hang" on files or folders with the intent to protect them and therefore prevent them being read
Before attempting the above please ensure your system has no Internet access
