System restore cd help please

Okay I use a Powerbook G4.
-I used the restore cd from boot
-I chose the option to erase the drive and re-install OSX
I find it unusual that the time remaining says 60+ hours. Also, when I look at the log while it is installing, I see a few errors "failed to write". It has been on "Processing base system part 1" for many hours now. I feel like something is going wrong.
I want to turn off my Powerbook but it is in the middle of an important installation, would this completely mess up my powerbook? I need advice, im pretty sure I messed up somewhere. If I did what are some steps to resolve this? Sorry I am new to this forum and if this question came up already, I apologize.

since the drive was erased, you can't daamge anything by shutting down
you can shut down by pressing power button until PowerBook shuts down
very slow installation could be caused by scratched or dirty CD/DVD or hardware problem with the hard drive, RAM or logic board

i sold this to a friend, i've been using it for quite awhile without the cd rom working, it was a refurbished laptop that toshiba sent me as a replacement for the one i had, they did not send me any restore disks, and it was wirking fine when i sold it to him for 200 dollars, , but he had it a few days and got a virus now it will only boot into safe mode, he does not want to pay to take it to a technician, and i am trying to help him.
the usb ports don't work either, besides the cd rom, but i have a  pcmcia adapter with usb ports that works fine.
i can buy the restore disks from toshiba for 20 dollars, or i have a retail copy of windows xp, or i have a downloaded copy of windows 7
there is  is a place on the side of the laptop to put sd cards in can i copy windows xp or windows 7 to a flash card put it in the side
and boot from it and install windows, will this run on windows 7?
what size flash card will i need if this will work? i have a 1 gig and a 2 gig already
or i can buy a external cd rom that hooks to the pcmcia port  , and boot from it, but don/t want to spend the money, can buy one on ebay for around 30 dollars, but not sure if that will work then i waste 30 dollars,
but i know the flash disk port works and i already have windows 7 and windows xp no cost to me and i have the flash cards
can some one please help and tell which rout will work?
and i could buy the restore diks and put them on the flash card would that work
and what steps would i have to take,
    thanks in advance
taking it to a technician is not a option ok?

  • I have an iPhone 4 and I had to get a new one due to a defect with my old one and I left the apple store's wifi before iCloud was done restoring unknowingly. So it is still stuck in a restore? Help please?

I left the apple store fast due to the fact i was in a bad car accudent and i am in a wheelchair and cant stay seated like that long due to a broken leg. It randomly will pop up message saying something like it needs wifi but I have wifi at my house. It also pops up another message something like it needs to finish restoring it and asks if I want to download it all and I click on it it to but it goes away after that and nothing pops back up. I also can't install the new update it says I have I finish the retire then do it. My photo album is also stuck at whatever number of photos I have taken in the new phone that number of 300 something. It just says its downloading it. I have no clue what to do. Also my iCloud backup I looked and it says I have 2.2 gb left then that the  backup is 2.7 gb. I'm very confused what options I have and can't find an answer anywhere please help me!

Need to Resume download to complete the ongoing Process.
Last Resort, put the iPhone in DFU mode (Google How to do that). Connect in iTunes. Follow on-screen prompts to Restore. All Data would be lost, if not backed up earlier.
To save the photographs you may have to use third party software. Google is your friend.

  • Can't access my account after time machine hard disk restore. HELP please.

i was attempting to partition my hard disk with boot camp when an error message appeared saying that it could not be partitioned and to backup my hard disk, reformat and restore using time machine, then run boot camp again. i did this and now i cannot access my account. at the log in page my password is accepted but a message appears saying that i am unable to access my account at this time due to an error (error not specified). any suggestions please.
    thanks :-)
    triggs.

just been reading through various posts on here and it seems that timemachine does not backup file vault home folders. Thanks for the warning message apple. i have wiped my harddrive lost all my home folder and am now panicking becuase some of the data was for a charity that i help out with and can't exactly go asking for the information again. i presume if my old home folder was there i would see it in the user account on my external drives backups? any help would be appreciated but  think i am now losing the will to live.
Cue the massive shouting match when i have to explain this to the charity secretary

  • Updated & now it can't be read, need to restore (?) Help please?

Please help. This may sound stupid, but I must be tech. challenged. I just got my ipod for Christmas & I have spend night after night reading discusions trying to get it to work. My husband keeps reminding me about that 1. Initial problem, I could not transfer songs. Never resolved that 1, but at least it WAS showing up in itunes.
Now, for some reason, I've updated software (that was new to begin with) & now my ipod is not able to be read. It says restore factory settings... there was never anything put on it yet. This thing is brand new & for the price, I expected to plug it in & it does the work. Everything I read is extremely detailed. How can I fix this & get it running on "everyday language" terminology? I was unable to open the manual I downloaded (tech. challenged).
Dell   Windows XP   ipod 30GB w/video

Thank you for helping! Another late night!
Looks like there is a conflict with different versions of ipod up-dater & itunes. My problems started when I updated from a 10/05 ed. to an 11/05 ed., thus my "ipod manager internal error". After I used my disc to reinstall, I was able restore my (still empty) ipod. Now it is showing up in itunes again! Hurray!! It will be a long time before I update again. I wonder if it is really necessary when it is brand new?
Thank you again! Now I just need to figure out how to put my 3rd party music onto my ipod. That was my initial problem I thought I was fixing by updating. It looks like it is easier to move music from my own CD's. I may be cancelling my music contract with the 3rd party.

  • 'System Security' Malware help, please! Installed Verizon security suite, now it's back again.

We received the System Security malware on our computer.  We thought we removed it completely because initially the malware prevented the Verizon security suite from running.
After we deleted the virus and the program attached, we were able to install the Verizon Internet Security suite. Lo and behold, two hours later (after a successful complete scan) the malware was back with NO warning from Verizon Security Suite.
Can someone please tell me how to remove this malicious program and also why the security suite gave no warning before it re-attached itself to our computer?
Any help is greatly appreciated, as our laptop is heavily used and we do not have the money or the time to have it completely wiped clean.
    Thank you!!

its really dependant on what type of malware is installed.
if u can get the exact name of it ... it should be something like name.malware .. something like that
do a google for "remove name.malware " or whatever the name of it is, and chances are the first 3 responses will be how to remove it
keep in mind that ABSOLUTELY NO VIRUS PROTECTION ON EARTH EVER , can protect you from every single virus/malware ... things change too fast for everythign to keep up 100% of the time

  • My satelite L455-S5975 will not restore using restore discs Help please

I have a L455 that I tied to restore to the out of box state using the internal restore partition.
After starting the process mid way I received a fatal error message and the computer now doesn't reboot past the windows 7 icon before displaying another error message and only allowing me to shut the system back down.
I called the help line and they said it sounded like my hard drive crashed.  I then ordered the restore discs from Acclaim and was told that after installing a new hard drive these discs would get the system back up and running and back to factory out of box status.
I ran the discs and towards the end of using the second recovery disk I received another error.
this was using the new hard drive.
I tried this twice and it didn't take.
I then put the old hard drive back in and started the restore process again.
I received this error mid way through the second disk.
    10-FC12-0241
after selecting the o.k button to shut down I received this error
    F3-F200-0002
again I selected the o.k. button to shut down and it did but still will not start up past the windows 7 logo.
Any idea what the issue is or what the error codes mean so that I can get the computer back up and running.
    Thanks
    Jason

Assuming your install media isnt damaged and your hard drives are good, in order of most problematic to least, you could have an issue with your motherboard, CPU, RAM, or optical drive.
Optical drive: attatch an external optical drive (USB) and try to install from there.
RAM: If you have multiple DIMMs, pull all but one and see if it goes. If it still doesnt work, try the other one.
If you only have one DIMM module then you can either swap it out or run a full memory test using MEMTEST86.
CPU: Obtain a replacement CPU and replace it.
Motherboard: time to buy another computer.
