System restore. failed driver install

Was having issues with the laptop so decided to do a full factory reset using the built in windows HP recovery. This failed so then used the recovery discs provided and worked to a point.
Formats OK, copies files OK, asks for the driver discs and does that (appears so) OK. Reboots and installs windows then HP software and drivers. What seems to be forever system reboots and then tells me its failed due to no drivers.
I have attempted this now 4/times with same result. These discs were provided by HP as my drive failed previously so should be the correct discs. This is the only HP machine and the only HP discs I have ever had.
Currently the machine is useless, unable to do anything. No way to get to desktop to manually install drivers after. Very annoying to say the least

Test the hard drive and memory modules, run the extended and quick tests, post back any errors or messages

• System Restore Fails

Hello all,I recently tried to do a system restore on my PC, and it is not wanting to work.  My troubles first began when I couldn't find my bluetooth adapter in my Device Manager.   Thinking it was a driver issue, I downloaded a driver from Microsoft.  I was later told that if I downloaded a driver that wasn't from HP, it could cause my adapter to fail.  I think the issue with my bluetooth was some services that I had previously disabled to free up CPU (I hadn't needd to use bluetooth in months).  However, when I re-enabled services, the bluetooth adapter is still no where to be found.  I tried uninstalling the newly installed driver, but no luck.
Given the current situation, I thought it would be best to restore my system back to before I messed with all the bluetooth drivers, etc.  This is when the real problem has set in.  I open system restore, choose a restore date, and system restore initializes.  Ater going to the system restore page (default windows back ground and restore status) the computer reboots and gives me the following error:
The confusing part is that I am not currently running any antivirus.  I have tried various restore dates, performing it in safe mode, perorming it from the "Repair Windows" menu, all with the same result.  Has anyone ever encounted this issue before or know how to resolve it? Thanks,DH

Hi, The free version of Malwarebytes is on-demand only and shouldn't have any affect on System Restore, however the paid version will use realtime scanning, so it may well be worth temporarily disabling this. If you're using the free version of Malwarebytes, it may be worth checking if the previous McAfee instalation has been completely removed - a link to the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool can be found on the following link. https://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331 Regards, DP-K

• Photosmart Premium C309a series: full system restore fails to result in HP Scan functioning

I had to recently have my iMac hard drive replaced. Upon performing a full system restore from a Time Machine back-up, I have found that HP Scan fails to operate at all, despite the printer itself performing its other tasks normally. This means that ABBYY Fine Reader also fails to operate with HP Scan as its 'calling application'.
I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8 and have run Apple Software Update and downloaded all outstanding HP software. Prior to my hard drive failure HP Scan worked fine. The full restore has installed the version I was running then as now, 2.4.1.
In order to obtain the Scan software obviously I originally downloaded the full software package from HP in order to configure its functions -however the current printer driver version is 4.1.2.
From the Error window that appears when I try to launch HP Scan, it appears that the problem may relate to HP Scan profiles not being loaded in the Library folder. However when I look there I am not able to determine if anything is missing. I suspect that they are there, but not being recognised.
As I already have all the software to operate the printer functions, why should I repeat the download to get HP Scan and the scanning function to operate again?
This question was solved.

Hi @MJM_archiver,
I see by your post that you had to replace the hardrive and after doing a full system restore from the Time Machine back-up, you are unable to scan. I can help you with this.
Try scanning through the Apple Software, to see if you have the same result.
How to Scan: Mac OS X v10.6.
The files might not have copied over properly from the back up.
I would verify and repair the disk permissions, reset the printing system on the Mac, then run the full uninstall and reinstall of the software.
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
Restart the computer.
Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Uninstalling the Printer Software.
HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X v10.4, v10.5, and v10.6.
Test the printer.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
Have a nice day!
Thank You.

• CS3 won't start after system restore, fails to reinstall

I am running CS3 design premium on Windows 8. I've have the computer (Lenovo with Intel i5) for two months, though I used the design suite on my previous computer. I had to run System Restore to fix a problem with Firefox, and after I did none of my Adobe products worked. I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times while following the Adobe Help page "error message at installation" guide. Each time I get the message that Acrobat installed correctly, and everything else "Component install failed." I also wiped everything Adobe off the program list (there were a few CC programs I had trialed, plus Flash Player and some plugins) ran the CC cleaner and still got the same error message. I even tried downloading the program files from Adobe in case there was a problem with my disk and that wasn't it either. I tried enabling FLEXnet and installing under a new user, each to no avail. Examining the log file found no instances of "Return value 3" and "FATAL." The search for "ERROR" found several items that I had either already tried or made no sense.
I ran the system restore again to an earlier point, and now I can't even uninstall anything. The CC cleaner tells me some files could not be cleaned, and I should close my browser and try again, but there are no browsers open. Restarted computer and tried again, same thing. It seems I've tried all the options.
Super frustrated.

Everytime I tried to do an ENTIRE SYSTEM RESTORE from TM it failed after a few seconds. I have formated the TM unit with 1 GUID partition as apple recommend and chose one of my internal hard drives as Time Machine unit. I'm just checking and comparing the TM usefulness for entire system restore matters. Can you help me, please?

• Win8 system restore half un-installed trail software

Good day,
While I know now that even if I do get this fixed, I don't think I will be able to continue with the trail... I need to get this fixed...
I need to know how to either
a) remove the Program Files that were left behind when windows did a system restore point, leaving dreamweiver half installed (Adobe application manager thinks it is still installed, but windows thinks its gone (it's not listed in the start menu, in the control panel under Programs and features,  nor can I find a exe file associated with dreamweiver).
b) get the files needed to get this half install back to full install, so that I can continue the trail period, so that I can decide if paying for it is worth it.
Sadly Adobe chat support says that this isn't covered by their support... (which I find odd as making it work could benefit them if I buy it...).
Thanks!

Adobe support really isn't something that they pride themselves on.  Many here will attest to that.  The WIndows Restore cleaner only does certain things, not everything that installers do.  Have you tried the CS Cleaner yet?  If not, that's where I would start.

• Restore failed drive

A failed drive holds my iphoto library. I can see in the time machine backups that it has the library but it's not revealing it presumably because the device isn't there. I've mounted a smaller spare drive, given it the same name and formatted it Mac OS extended (journaled). How do I restore to this new drive?

if you've given the new drive the same name as the old one, that should be sufficient. open the new drive in finder and start TM. you should be able to restore. if that doesn't work for whatever reason, enter siftcommandc in finder and start TM. scroll back to a time point when that iphoto drive was present. you should see it as a folder. open it and restore what you need.

• ThinkPad Yoga 12 System Update fails to install fixes

I have been having the famous floating cursor problem using OneLink Doc and external monitor, mouse and keyboard. So I decided to run System Update (5.06.0034) to see if anything appropriate would inbstall. SU downloaded 4 fixes, and I selected all to install. The fixes downloaded, installation began and all fixes immediately showed "installation failed".
Therer was a manual update available in the failure message, but clicking on it did not cause anything to happen.
The fixes displayed were
- Lenovo Power Management Driver 1.67.10.4002
- Lenovo Settings Dependency Package 2.3.3.41
- Installed camera Driver for Realtek 6.2.9200.10252
- ThinkPad BIOS Update (non-Vpro) 1.24.1.24
I went to downloads and downloaded and manually installed Lenovo Power Management Driver and Lenovo Settings Dependency Package (restarts required).
I ran SU and it showed only the BIOS update needed. I tried again to install and got the same failure.
I went back to downloads and the only BIOS update was 1.08, not 1.24.1.24. I tried to install it anyway and the install failed due to  "The process does not recognize this system. The process has been canceled."
I tried uninstalling SU and reinstalling and restart, I ran SU, downloaded and tried to install the BIOS and SU immediately displayed "installation failed".
So I have a couple of problems. SU is not working and I don't know where to look to try to determine the installation problem. The BIOS update info does not match up between SU and the downloads page.
Any ideas on where to look for the SU failure to install fixes? Do I need the BIOS?. I checked and my current BIOS shows as LENOVO GQET43WW (1.23), 1/21/2015.

• Windows 8 System Restore Fail

Laptop: Lenovo Ideapad S210
The initial OS of my laptop is Windows 8 then I decided to upgrade it to Windows 8.1. The problem is every time I open an app from Windows it crasher. Heck, I can't even open the Windows Store or PC Settings!! So I decided to restore it from my backup with
an WSI file using the Lenovo Onekey Recovery Tool. However, as the recovery is in progress, the power went off!! Now I have a bricked Laptop. I can still go into the BIOS. I enabled the Legacy support and I tried to boot Windows 8 from USB flashdrive to try
to reformat. The boot was successful but  I can't install the WIndows 8, I can't refresh or reset my PC either.
I tried one of the tutorials in a forum
http://www.techsupportalert.com/freeware-forum/system/12932-fixing-boot-problem-in-windows-8-1-a.html
but I'm not quite sure about what options to do. I tried the bootrec /Rebuildbcd but it says "the requested system device cannot be found"
HELP PLEASE!!

Hi,
How about your propblem now? I'm agree with britishdhez's opinion, it would be better to make system reset using OEM built in recovery disc. Contact Lenove would be more effective.
If you need any further help, you can also let us know.

• HP 3D DriveGuard 5 Fails Driver Install

I'm running Windows 7 Pro x86 on an HP EliteBook 8570p Laptop.  The device manager shows Unkown Device with Hardware ID of ACPI\HPQ6000 which is the HP 3D DriveGuard 5.  I've downloaded the most recent driver and still the install fails near the end of the install process with:
"there is a problem with the Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected....."
If I try to install the driver using the Update Driver manually from Device Manager, It fails with "The install class is not present or is invalid".
Any insight to install this driver would be greatly appreciated.

You might try posting in the business support forums.
http://goo.gl/LsnuK
Was this notebook configured with a RAID option? If so, check that the Intel Matrix Storage software is current.
You could try downloading the program again using a different browser.
I do recommend trying the enterprise forums to see if they may have more insight regarding this.

• How to use Time Machine to do a system restore after clean install of mavericks

Hi I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro 15" ... I updated from mountain lion to mavericks and was having issues with mavericks running slow. Took it to Apple today and they were great with helping me upgrade the RAM to the max (8GB DDR3) ... I asked them to do a clean install of Mavericks as well. I have Time Machine backups that I would like to use to restore to my previous settings but I can't seem to figure out what to do.... When I enter Time Machine and I try and select a past date, it doesn't let me choose a date to "restore" ... What am I doing wrong? Please walk me through it thanks!

Use Migration Assistant to migrate your previous account from the Time Machine backup. Migration Assistant is in your Utilities folder.
Read: OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks
When doing so, select your previous User account but do not migrate "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". De-select those choices. Subsequent to using Migration Assistant, you will need to reinstall any essential software you may require.
"Essential software" means programs that have been verified by their developers to be compatible with Mavericks, and specifically excludes junk such as "cleaners", "boosters", "optimizers", or ill-conceived "anti-virus" garbage. Install that essential software from original sources such as the App Store, developer's websites, or original optical media, and not from untrustworthy download aggregator hosting sites such as C net dot com, Mac update dot com, etc, and not from backups that may have been corrupted.
Be aware that if you already created an account with the same name as the one you want to migrate, Migration Assistant will offer to rename the account it's about to create. In other words if you're already logged in as "Tara", and you want to migrate the account named Tara from the Time Machine backup, it will offer to name the migrated account Tara1. Migration Assistant will tell you what it's going to do, but the warning is easy to overlook. Therefore you might consider creating another, temporary account with Administrator privileges, and deleting the one you created subsequent to erasing your Mac and installing Mavericks.
For those instructions read: OS X Mavericks: Set up users on your Mac. Follow the instructions under "Add a user". Be sure to select “Allow user to administer this computer.”
Log in under that temporary account, then use Migration Assistant. Confirm everything works as you expect, then you can delete the temporary account.

• System check fails on install

The first time I tried to install Flash CS4 trial (on Vista
Ultimate 32bit as admin) it crashed my computer. Hard. I wasn't
able to load Windows due to "registry corrupted or missing".
Fixed all that (a lot of bad data linked to the Flash
install) and manually deleted all the files I could find (some were
unrecoverable) since I was unable to run uninstall.
Tried it again. Now I get this error during install:
Critical errors were found in setup for Adobe Flash CS4:
undefined
The installer database in invalid: please re-install the
product from the original media
I can't uninstall and have to manually delete files. I tried
installing twice with the same results.
Ideas?

Hi Christine,
You could give the "Adobe CS4 Clean Script" a try; it might

• DID SYSTEM RESTORE, LOST ITUNES WONT RE-INSTALL

Right, this one is bugging me.
ive just got an ipod nano for my birthday (november) and have installed all my songs onto it.
but then after a few weeks of having itunes my pc decided it didnt like its sound device, so the sound on my pc completley vanished, so we tried re-installing all the drivers, no avail.
so, (this is on windows xp) i did a system restore to an earlier restore point (before itunes was installed!)
and then did another one, before that date too!
now, i dont have sound, i dont have itunes, i dont have quicktime.
and whenever i try install any of these i get this error message

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y163/vibrating_cake/ipodprob.jpg
same for quicktime, just with quicktime in the name rather than itunes.
this is incredibly annoying as i cant even watch dvd's on my desktop anymore because something is blocking my sound device
so what can i do?????????
(to summarise)
i have windows xp
i did two system restores BEFORE i installed ITUNES
i cant re-install ITUNES because i get an error ITUNES.MSI is on a network device which is unavailable.
i dont want to loose all my songs and albums because theres over 1000songs in there.
and itunes will not open or install!
oh... and i have tried backup on the system restore function on windows xp, wont backup BOTH system restores!

If you are not getting sound, go to your control panel and open: Sounds and Audio Devices Properties>>Audio tab and check that your Sound playback device is set to your sound card.
For reinstalling iTunes, after that mess I suggest you do a full removal of iTunes and related programs with Installer cleanup of any programs that do not uninstall, then a reinstall.
Here is the method, follow it carefully and don't leave anything out.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

• Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac?

Disclaimer: Apple does not necessarily endorse any suggestions, solutions, or third-party software products that may be mentioned in the topic below. Q. Can I use the grey coloured System Restore discs that shipped with Mac A to install OS X onto Mac B?
A. In most cases, due to technical and licensing reasons, the answer is no. The answer is definitely no if any of the following apply:
Any part of the software on the system restore disc is currently installed or in use on Mac A, or on any other computer1
The OS on the disc is any version of Leopard (10.5.x), or is any version of Tiger later than 10.4.42
Either of the two Macs has an Intel processor3
The system restore discs from Mac A contain an older version of Mac OS X than the version of Mac OS X that was on the install discs that would have shipped with Mac B4
However, an installation attempt may be successful, and compliant with all OS X licensing terms, if all of the following conditions are met:
No part of the software on the system restore disc is currently installed or in use on Mac A, or on any other computer1
The OS on the disc is Tiger 10.4.3 or earlier, or is an earlier version of OS X (10.3.x, 10.2.x, etc)2
Both Mac A and Mac B have PowerPC processors (G3, G4, or G5)3
The system restore discs from Mac A contain a newer version of Mac OS X than the version of Mac OS X that was on the install discs that would have shipped with Mac B4
All terms of the Mac OS X Software License Agreement are followed, particularly sections 2 and 3 regarding permitted usage and transfer.
Even if all the above conditions are met, software restore discs contain computer-specific releases of Mac OS X, and may not install or work properly on a Mac that has a hardware configuration that is significantly different than the original.
Notes
The license agreement for single user copies of all versions of OS X, including all versions that ship on system restore discs, do not permit any part of the software to be installed or used on more than one computer at the same time.
The provision restricting the use of grey coloured system restore discs to the same Mac with which they shipped was introduced with the 10.4.4 Software License Agreement, and has been carried through to the 10.5 Leopard Software License Agreement. This restriction was not present in the Software License Agreement for earlier versions of Tiger, nor for earlier versions of Mac OS X.
All Macs with Intel processors shipped with a Mac OS X EULA restricting usage of the software restore discs to that Mac only. The license that shipped with G3, G4, or G5 Macs that shipped with 10.4.3 or earlier permit the transfer of OS X to another Mac, provided that all terms of the license agreement are followed. Furthermore, the architecture of PowerPC and Intel systems are incompatible enough that neither platform's system restore discs will install on the other.
Mac OS X system software will not properly run on, and may not even install on, any Mac that is newer than it, because the software lacks the hardware drivers to run properly on the newer hardware. Details are in this document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186

Gray Install Discs are Machine specific, so even if both were Intel iMacs they'd have to be the same Models.
Leopard 10.5.x is another possible option besides Tiger/10.4.x.
Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
* A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
* Built-in FireWire
* At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
* DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
* At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools (I recommend 20GB minimum)

Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
* 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it!
