System restore: will my recent files be deleted?

I want to perform a full system restore from Time Machine because the last updates killed the scan ability of my Samsung SCX4500 printer. Can i do a system restore without deleting all my recent files (i mean the files i created AFTER the date chosen for the restore on TM)? Thanks...

No.  A full system restore erases your internal HD, then copies everything from the backup you select.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14 for details.
You can then restore selected things from the most recent backup, via TM's "Star Wars" display, per FAQ #15.

Firefox 4.0 cannot find the Yahoo mail URL. Working with the Verizon tech we were able to get Internet Explorer to finaly find the yahoo mail web site. But not luck with Firefox 4.0 .

My system restore will not restore and printers are gone altogether. How do I get the old firefox and all i've lost back.

  • HT201376 If I do a system restore, will I lose Photoshop  etc? They were downloaded from the internet so I don't have a disk.

I would like to do a system restore on my MacBook Pro but I do not want to lose Photoshop Elements, etc. Can I put them on my external hard drive? Also, will they be deleted from the computer or no?

Always make a backup of your content before reinstalling the operating system so reduce the chance of losing content.
If you do a simple reinstall of Mac OS X, and do not do a clean or erase install, you should not lose content.  All you do is reinstall the operating system itself.  But, again, make a backup as a protection.

  • System Restore will not run on Vista Home Premium

I cannot get system restore to run  on my T61 using Vista Home Premium I get messages like:
"The Restore point could not be created for the following reason: The writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried the error may not reoccur". It did.
I also get "Rescue and Recovery Backup Service stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the applicaion to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available." It did not.
I have also been advised no restore points are available.
The net effect is I cannot use System Restore at all!
Has anyone else had a problem like this with system restore?  Lenovo has been no help.I have had a number of Dell computers and this is my first (and last) Lenovo. When it was quite new and the problem occurred , I contacted them but they just blew me off..
    RHM

So i assume that your T61 originally came with Vista Home premium installed??? Did you make the Recovery Media disks when you first got your machine??? If not call Lenovo up and obtain those disks, and then use them to reinstall your service partition and your OS.

  • I have an iMac which I had loaded Parallels and Windows 7.  I recently uninstalled both programs. How can I delete all related files?  Is there a program that will find related files and delete them?

I have an iMac on which I had installed Parallels and Windows 7 so I could some of the creativity software I was used to. I recently uninstalled both Parallels and Windows. How can I clean up my hard drive by making sure stray files from those programs have all been deleted?

If you followed these steps to uninstall Parallels (you simply drag Parallels to the Trash), that's all. Parallels is a quite clean application that does not create a lot of files in different folders.
However, you may still have the virtual machines you created in Documents folder. If you want to remove them, open a Finder window, select Documents in the sidebar and remove the Parallels folder

  • Time Machine help!  Will my old files be deleted?

I've just purchased a drive to set up as a backup drive (and also for holding files that I don't have room for on my MacBook and I don't often access). I don't want to have to manually place all of my new files on it, but I'm afraid Time Machine will delete the files it holds that are no longer on my MacBook. Can someone please explain if it will or if not, what exactly will happen? Thanks!

Those are two completely different things.
Your best bet would be to get a larger internal HD, so you can keep all your originals on it, and use the external for backups only.
Second best would be a second external; use one for the "overflow" of stuff that won't fit on your Mac, and the other to back up the internal HD on your Mac and the "overflow" external.
Third best is to partition the external; backups in one partition, "overflow" in the other one. If you do that, when that drive fails (and they all do, sooner or later), you risk losing both copies. See #3 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
I don't want to have to manually place all of my new files on it
Depending on what you want to move, you may not have to do that manually:
    [Moving your iTunes Music folder|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449]
    [Moving your iPhoto library|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229]
[Moving iMovie footage to another drive|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026]
Note that you cannot use Time Machine's backed-up files normally. You can browse some types of files, but they must be restored somewhere to be used with an application.
I'm afraid Time Machine will delete the files it holds that are no longer on my MacBook.
Yes, sooner or later Time Machine will delete it's backup copies of things that are no longer on the drive(s) it's backing-up. So if you have it backing-up both the MacBook and the other data, it will only delete it's copies of things you deleted long ago.

  • HT201301 After file sharing, if a new iTunes account is added to the device and synced, will the shared files be deleted?

My company would like to give out iPads to contest winners and have company owned "propoganda" loaded onto the iPad for the winners to view. Most likely videos, word documents and possibly more. I have a couple of questions about that.
Without building a file sharing app ourselves what apps are the best for file sharing through iTunes?
If we load files onto a device using our iTunes Account, then hand it over to the winner and they put their iTunes account on the device and sync it, will the files we pre-loaded be erased?
If so, are there any other solutions to accomplish this task?
Thank you for any help you can provide!

Syncing with your computer will delete data from his phone but you should be able to restore his backup.
    iOS: How to back up
However, he won't be able to play music purchased under a different iTunes account than the one his phone is signed into.  He can change the account to yours, but any apps he purchased under his account will no longer update, and any purchases he makes will go on your account.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Does Firefox have an equivalent of IE 9's System Restore? Quote: " It helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time."

If, for example, when using IE 9, I download something that causes my computer to misbehave, I can use IE 9's "System Restore" capability to revert my hard drive back to a point in the past when the drive was running correctly. The software will show me the "safe points" in time to which I can revert; I select one of the proposed times, run System Restore, and the computer will work as it did at the time I selected.

amin.mina.it -- You are right. Windows System Restore will restore your system to whatever the date you dedicated. If you are having any problems with your PC, or even problems with your browsers, you can always choose to restore your system to an earlier date. Please read this thread for further details.

If you are having problems with Firefox only but not your PC, you can just follow cor-el's instruction to do a clean reinstall instead. If you decide to do a System Restore, and having problems with Firefox afterward, follow cor-el's instructions also to fix the problem.
    Good luck.

  • Lost all my APPS following a "System Restore" on my Windows 8.1 machine

A couple of days ago I was experiencing problems logging on to ANY / ALL Wi-Fi networks so elected to do a "System Restore" for about 10 days ago. That worked fine and I got my Wi-Fi networks sorted but I lost ALL MY APPS and cannot find a way
to re-install. Tried contacting Microsoft and what a waste of time that was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has anyone any idea as to how to retrieve the situation WITHOUT getting too complex or do I need to buy an Apple Computer? With the Old XP system a "System Restore"
NEVER created these sort of problems! PLEASE SOMEONE TRY TO ADVISE. Thanks Andrew

Sorry to ask, may I know how you perform system restore?
as far I know, system restore will restore condition included software or application installation
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
If you think an app or driver that you recently installed caused problems with your PC, you can restore Windows back to an earlier point in time, called a restore point. System Restore doesn’t change your personal files, but it might remove recently
    installed apps and drivers.
To restore your PC to an earlier point in time
    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
2.Enter Control Panel in the search box, and tap or click Control Panel.
3.Enter Recovery in the Control Panel search box, and then tap or click Recovery.
4.Tap or click Open System Restore, and then follow the instructions
So, you need to reinstall your application if 10 days ago you haven't installed it
I don't know your expectation about this

  • System restore problems

This morning .. . .went to computer woke it up fine
then error messages in the bottom left hand corner saying that this file and that file were corrupted - this was the yellow trianage message.
Then that the "all users file" in documents and settings was corrupt.
So did a system restore to one day last week - when i knew all was well. This was successful but when the thing started again lots of software files were missing, internet dial up connection, and the all programs menu was one fifth the size it was before - lots of things gone like under:
    all programs
    accessories
    system tools - gone
I then tried to reserve the system restore and this did not work - reported that it had failed. So tried to do a system restore as I left to yesterday. Otherwise what do i do?
The file with all your software is still on there but it's reinstalling the dial up connection etc.
    All advice appreciated

    Hi
As far as I know the system restore tool roll back the OS to the early point and all the files.
If you have installed files or have changed some settings after the restore point, all this things will be removed after using the system restore tool.
A similar issue was happened to me. I have saved a lot of files on second partition and after using the system restore tool all these files and data which was created after restore point was removed.
    There is nothing to do
If you use the tool from time to time you should create more restore points.

  • System restore points disappeared

Taking a look at my system restore points I found there were none. There is no reason I know of for this - system restore was set to ON but restore points were not being created - I turned it off then on again and now it is creating restore points again.
One thing occurred to me was I had been looking at some dodgy "make money on the web easily" sites just out of interest. Does anyone know of any malicious ware that destroys restore points. It would be a sneaky way of stopping the deletion of Spy ware.
Also I noticed some automatic updated from Microsoft had just finished installing - would this have deleted restore points ? From what I read auto updates create restore points not delete them.
    Any ideas anyone ?

    Hi
    I have found this info:
If no free disk space on monitored system drive or on any of the available non-system drives exists, System Restore will purge restore points consistently across all monitored partitions to free disk space. If the free disk space falls below 50 MB on any monitored partition, System Restore will stop monitoring and suspend.
Note: Some users have reported that using the Real Player One utility has deleted restore points. Please review your System Event Viewer log for System Restore events for a volume error event.
But these are Microsoft issues and if you want to know more about such issues with system restore tool you should check this Microsoft info site:
