System restore won't work!!!  HELP!!!

Hi all.
I have a 60 gig Photo. It gave me the support icon on my iPod screen.
I installed the latest iTunes software. I plugged in my iPod, saw that it is up to date, and clicked restore.
iTunes went through the system restore process, told me that it had been set back to factory settings, then prompted me to disconnect to a power source. However, my iPod said not to disconnect. I did anyway and still got the support icon on my iPod screen.
I redid my restore, and I kept it plugged in cause it is USB2 and charges the battery. It still says not to disconnect and has not changed for at least 15 minutes.
What gives here???? How can I trick my iPod into working? Why won't the system restore work? How do I troubleshoot this thing? Do I need to get this serviced? Do I have to get a new iPod?????
Any thoughts are welcome.

I saw somwhere on a different thread to try and restore iPod on a mac. I went to my local Apple store with my iPod and went through the system restore there.
The Apple attendent saw the 1418 error message and began to erase my drive. It stalled and stuck on about 10% progress.
He graciously told me that a Mac genius would do some complimentary research/work on it for me. I left it there tonight and will see what they say when they call me about its progress.
Thank you for your thread reference. I think I will not be able to follow those instructions though. I think my iPod has been updated already and I cannot reinstall the firmware and disconnect in mid stream, not unless you can tell me how to revert back to where this would be necessary.
Hopefully the genius that works on my iPod will solve my issue and I will not have to worry about this, but in case it does not, I will see if I can implement this solution when I get it back.
I did see this thread in my research AFTER I updated my iPod and installed v7 on my PC. hmmm

  • System restore is not working

System restore is not working for my Itouch. I am getting a picture of a white cord and and arrow pointing to Itunes logo... any suggestions?

It sounds like there is definitely a system problem. The whole OS seems to be messed up.
Do you have an MS Windows 7 disk?
In such case you could start the Windows 7 Startup Repair process using the MS Win 7 disk.
Boot from Win 7 disk, after the temporal files has been load, you should get and window where you could choose between the OS installation and other options. The second option called Repair you Computer is the one which would be needed to get the system repaired.
Then wait for System Recovery Options to locate Windows 7 on the HDD.
Then choose the Windows 7 installation and then the next window should appear providing the option to repair the system Startup Repair
But in case this workaround would not help you, the system should be reinstalled once again using Toshiba Recovery disk

  • Mac Sleep Timer (through 'Energy Saver' in System Preferences) won't work

    Hello,
    I have a MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2009) running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3,
and it has been installed with the latest software updates possible.
(The latest update is the 'Security Update 2010-003')
Previously I was using Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 on my MacBook,
and I can vaguely remember the timed computer sleep through Energy Saver would work.
That is, when the counter's time matches the amount of time I specified (e.g. 10 minutes), the computer enters sleep mode and displays a pulsing power light.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard I can barely remember the scheduled computer sleep will work as I don't really notice how it sleeps / I will shut down my MacBook before I go to bed.
    ==========
However, last night I was really tired and slept in front of my MacBook unconsciously.
When I woke up, I found that my MacBook didn't display a pulsing power light but a continuously-growing power light.
I tapped the trackpad and the display turned on, so I knew that my MacBook didn't go to sleep a whole night.
*What that means is that the Sleep Timer (through 'Energy Saver' in System Preferences) won't work.*
But the timed display sleep DOES work.
    ==========
After spending a whole day Googling,
I found that there are plenty of people suffering the same problem as me, although their Macs and OSs vary.
I also found an official support page from Apple concerning the related issue:
Mac OS X: Why your Mac might not sleep or stay in sleep mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1776
I tried the following methods but still can't resolve the problem:
_- boot my MacBook in safe mode_
_- use the 'Disk Utility' to repair Disk Permissions through booting my MacBook from the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Installation DVD_
_- reset NVRAM (Intel-based) (as PRAM is used by PowerPC-based Macs)_
_- reset SMC (System Management Controller)_
NONE of the above-mentioned methods can resolve the problem.
Althought I am sure that the Spotlight isn't indexing the hard drive, and I just start my computer and do nothing and wait for the scheduled computer sleep, the scheduled computer sleep just won't work.
In the other Mac forum, I saw someone suggest installing an application called PleaseSleep:
    http://www.dragonone.com/products/macosx/pleasesleep/
    It works.
But I really want to find out what caused this problem as this is a function shipped with Mac which is expected to work normally.
What's more, Apple is claiming to be a green Apple, right?

Looking forward to your replies! Thanks in advance!

Found this discussion by googling "com.apple.systempreferencescouldn't find any matches"...
One month ago I bought a brand new Macbook Pro 13", and after a couple of weeks I realized it wasn't sleeping on its own when it should, per the system preferences. (I did sleep when I chose "Sleep" in the menus or closed it... It just wouldn't sleep on its own, while open.) What was extra frustrating was that it was intermittent... It would sleep on its own maybe 1/3 of the time, but other times it would NEVER go to sleep. I deleted PowerManagement.plist, reset the SMC, etc... No luck.
I took it to the "geniuses" at the Apple Store, and the guy took all of five minutes trying to diagnose the problem. When my MBP wouldn't sleep on its own, he promptly replaced it with a new one. That was nice, but I actually would have preferred that he diagnosed and fixed it. (I think the store was so swamped with people coming in for service that day that they were doing anything they could to close cases and get customers out of there ASAP.)
Now, sitting here with my 48-hour-old MBP, I still have the problem. The other one was so new that I had barely put anything on it yet. The only applications I had put on it were MS Office for Mac 2011, Firefox, Chrome, and Adobe Flash Player. I've put Office and Flash Player on this one, but not yet Firefox or Chrome. That's it. No other customization or fancy business.
I looked into the Console just now, and I see the "Couldn'tfind any matches" entry popping up again and again. The last three seemed to pop upright around the time when my MBP should have gone to sleep on its own, but not down to the second, so it's hard to definitively point at that and say it's it for sure.
    They need to fix this!!

I did a system restore (W7) and my CS3 apps stopped working with the message "Licensing for this product stopped functioning. Currently you cannot use this product. Solve this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling or contact support." I tried to uninstall but the installation manager returns a list of applications with red X and "unsuccessful" next to it. Reinstalling it from the dvd  returns: "Installation error, can not continue. Contact support. Internal error 2739". I do not really want to reinstall the whole system since other Adobe applications (PS CS6) work just fine.

  • I don't like Firefox 7, how do I revert to the previous version? System restore doesn't work.

With Firefox 7 my computer is slower to boot up and shut down. When typing the website I want in the address bar the old firefox took me straight to the site now it takes me to Google. I'd like to revert to the previous version of Firefox. I have tried using system restore but it doesn't work. I'm using windows XP. Can anyone help?

Starting with the release of Firefox 7, the previous versions of Firefox (4.0.x, 5.0.x and 6.0.x) are no longer maintained with Security and Stability updates. Firefox 3.6 is the last previous Firefox version that is still being maintained.

Only the Latest version 7.0.1 and an Older version 3.6.23 of Firefox are secure against these known vulnerabilities.

  • Audio Won't Work: Help Needed!(SB Liv

Tonight I came to my computer and found that the audio wouldn't work. I ran Creative diagnostics, and the first message was that I needed to "reinstall drivers." The second test failed at hardware check, saying no hardware was detected. So I went to Device Manager and it indicated that it was all there. So then I went to Creative's website to check for drivers, after Windows came up with nothing. I found out that there's nothing. So then I decided to do a "Repair" with my Creative Soundblaster Li've! CD. That didn't work either. Then I just did a "Remove", and oddly enough, when I rebooted, it was all still there. In All Programs, in the task bar, it was still there. But only this time I couldn't run diagnostics again because it said that there is missing information or something. So the removal didn't work properly, and ended up removing certain vital components. This left me one step back!
What should I do? Go into Add/Remove Programs and get rid of all Soundblaster components, or get my Resource CD and reinstall sound drivers from it's Should I retry with the Soundblaster CD?
Note: I also opened up my PC after it was suggested by Creative Diagnostics earlier that I check my sound card's physical connection to my machine. I couldn't find anywhere to unscrew the card, so I just put a light amount of pressure on it to make sure that it's fastened in there properly. It seemed absolutely fine. Although I wonder why I couldn't figure out how to remove it.
Also note that I tried system restore, and to no avail.
I honestly don't know what to do at this point. Can anyone help me?!

I only just received my iPod Nano 4GB as a gift and it won't work. • Does Firefox have an equivalent of IE 9's System Restore? Quote: " It helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time."

If, for example, when using IE 9, I download something that causes my computer to misbehave, I can use IE 9's "System Restore" capability to revert my hard drive back to a point in the past when the drive was running correctly. The software will show me the "safe points" in time to which I can revert; I select one of the proposed times, run System Restore, and the computer will work as it did at the time I selected.

amin.mina.it -- You are right. Windows System Restore will restore your system to whatever the date you dedicated. If you are having any problems with your PC, or even problems with your browsers, you can always choose to restore your system to an earlier date. Please read this thread for further details.

If you are having problems with Firefox only but not your PC, you can just follow cor-el's instruction to do a clean reinstall instead. If you decide to do a System Restore, and having problems with Firefox afterward, follow cor-el's instructions also to fix the problem.
    Good luck.

I am a public educator, so we are trying to keep our computers alive.
FYI it is probably not the original keyboard or mouse, and it probably is not the original memory either.

Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart; when you hear the chime hold down C key until the apple logo appears.
This will take you to the installation software.
The keyboard, mouse and RAM do not have to be original for you to reinstall your operating system, but having the original disk is required OR having a purchased retail version will do just as nicely.
    Good luck with your installation.

Yup, probably something corrupted in the backups of OSX.
I reinstalled OS X and I am now restoring my personal data from backup within the setup assistant.
However I don't know if iChat works again.
If it was a problem with OSX or the iChat app, you've got a new version of each, so probably.

I'm running Windows 7, and I tried to have system restore backup to a few days ago.  There have been no changes to the computer in this time other than Windows update. After performing system restore and rebooting, I have a message that system restore was cancelled because there was a file in use.  It suggested I disable anti-virus protection.  After disabling that, I tried system restore once again.  The computer seemed to be doing it right, but after reboot, I got the same message that it could not be performed due to a file in use.
I've turned off everything I can think of, does anybody know why might be causing system restore to stop and how it could be corrected?
    Thanks

If you cannot do a System Restore from the Recovery Environment (as Archie suggested), then probably the restore points have become corrupt. That's not uncommon.
To repair that, turn System Restore off and then on again. Unfortunately, that removes all the previous restore points.
Turn System Restore on or off
If you post again, tell us which computer you have.
