System service using all CPU w/XP SP1

I have a K7N420Pro and after I install XP SP1 the system service uses all available CPU cycles.  If I check the task manager my CPU usage is at 100%!! has anybody else seen this?
By the way, It is the system service not the system idle process.
System specs:
K7N420Pro
Athlon XP 1900
1.5 GB Ram (3x 512 MB)
2.6 BIOS

I pulled EVERYTHING off the MB. Floppy, CD/DVD drives all the memory except one stick, I even disconnected the USB and diagnostic leds.  That didn't work.  Then I realized that the small sound card addon wasn't actually part of the MB even though it came with it.  I powered down and pulled the CNR Sound MAX card and when I rebooted it found some additional sound hardware and the system service was back to no CPU usage.  I then shut down and readded the CNR card and when I powered on the system it was still fine.  I now have to reconnect all the rest of the stuff I removed and make sure it is still fine but it looks good so far.
Well, It's not fine.  When I rebooted the problem was back.  I will now pull everything off again and then add it back one piece at a time. :(
OK
Now I finally know what the problem is.
I had both of the additional USB connections filled.  One from the diagnostic thing and the other from the front of my case.  Well I guess that the cables from my case are bad since when they are connected my problem is there but it goes away when I remove them.  I can definitely live with just 4 USB ports.  I only have 3 USB devices right now and if I ever get more I can just add a USB hub.

  • System Exec use all resources system if "wait until completion" is true !

    Hello,
I use the function "System Exe" since a long time to launch various executables since Labview.
The " waint until completion " boolean is true, because I have to wait the end of the external executable to continue.
Big problem: the function " System Exec " use all resources system, by waiting for the end of the external program.
Is it a bug of this function ?
In my example, "System Exec" launches only the notepad (LV 8.2 on XP)
    Thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks to both for your speed.
In fact I had simplified my vi to target the problem.
I use System Exec to launch another executable, made possibly with labview, but with passage of parameter. (Ex: - " / string:init ").
In the literature Labview it was made with the method cmd / x / c start by putting twice the path of the executable.
In this method a waiting time in the recent system exec function was effectively missing.
But effectively, today, it is enough: "c:\myexe.exe" - " / string.init " to launch and to pass a parameter.
You have both reason and I thank you sincérement.
    Very cordially.
    Sorry for my English....

  • Firefox uses all CPU resources when loading pages with lots of images.

I just installed XP, and when I load pages with a ton of images, say, tumblr, Firefox uses ALL CPU time until it finishes loading.
But because of the slowdown, it takes forever to download all the images.
It's not related to my connection, I've got 15mbit downstream.
I have Win7 on a different partition, and I have never had this problem.
As far as I know, all my drivers and XP are up to date.
I could have an old driver lurking, should I be looking at something specific?
I've tried to find something on Google, but I've not found anything really helpful...

I haven't gotten around to installing antivirus (or anything else, for that matter).
If I watch in Task Manager, Firefox.exe goes to 100% as soon as I load the page.
And no, that guide didn't help much. I don't have any addons or plugins yet, this is a new install.
I got a huge slowdown a bit ago, it's because it was using almost 1.5GB of RAM o_o

  • Windows 7 Windows Updates - Using all CPU

In beginning oflast week, one user reported that his PC is unusable. Very high CPU usage. We look at it, it's a svchost process that's taking up the CPU.. the one that has Windows Updates. I use Process Explorer and see Windows Update is going nuts on the CPU along with its friend TrustedInstaller. Nothing we do seems to be able to calm it down. I could disable the service and the CPU drops to normal. There was no update on his computer for at least a week prior to this. Then later on the same week, my CEO says he's having a problem. Same issues. I end up reinstalling Windows 7 on that computer but that turned into a nighmare of failed Windows Updates (you can read my whining about it last night). I started working on his problem Friday and all through the weekend and through yesterday.. that service keeps the CPU jacked up no matter...

Ahh, this *might* be it, I did turn on dual monitors yesterday, so can I not run dual monitors with After Effects? I didn't update my video drivers, maybe I should? Let me turn off the second monitor and see if that corrects the issue. brb.
Ok that worked!!! for CS5, it's working like perfect. So can I not run dual monitors? That would be a real pain!
CS4 still has the pixelated "waffle" corruption cursor. The graphics cards are not overclocked and the CPU and GPU are below average temps.
Thats a pic of what it looks like..

  • HELP: Premiere Pro CC not using all CPU and RAM during rendering and export

    Hello,
I am using Premiere Pro CC on a Windows 7. My timeline is quite simple with two videos, one with the movie (mpeg) and the other with the subtitles (avi).
When I render the sequence in PP or export, the rendering time is way too slow and it only uses around 15-20% of the CPU and 3 GB of RAM.
    My hardware config is :
    - CPU : i7-4770k 3.50Ghz
    - RAM : 8 GB
    - Disk : 2 x 3 TB SATA (no raid)
RAM is not the bottleneck, neither the disk access.
I have tried rendering and exporting the same project on an iMac (with an i5 2.7 Ghz and 4 GB RAM and only 1 disk) and the result is 4x faster !!!
The CPU usage is close to 100% as well as RAM usage.
So how come PP uses all resources availble on an iMac and not on a Windows 7 ?
Is there any known bug or software bottleneck on Windows 7 ?
My machine is brand new and nothing much installed besides Adobe products.
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks,

I just rendered out a a 2 minute sequence with about 100 clips in it and Colorista effects on everything to the Vimeo 1080 H264 preset. It took about 5 minutes to render straight from Premiere, it used all the recourses it could, my CPU was running at near %100, same with my ram and GPU, I was happy.
Then I did another render with Red Giant Denoiser and it now wants to take 30 mins and it is only using about %20 of the recourses available. My problem isn't that its taking longer with Denoiser but that its not using all of my computers CPU and GPU.
Im rendering at maximum render quality and bit dept to H264 (Im happy to wait the extra time), if I try to use VRB 2 it encodes 1 pass at a time and wants to take up to 40 minutes.
I would appreciate some advice on this.

After I have updated to Itunes 10.5 apple MobileDevice use all my cpu,I tried to uninstall all apple programs and reinstall them but the problem appears again.
To uninstall and reinstall fixed the the same problem with itunes 10.4.
I hope someone is able to help me.

The CPU has been resolved after reading other posts:
From the command prompt, enter: netsh winsock reset
    Then reboot computer.
My Sony Vaio runs faster, all Apple Mobile Device issues are gone, and iTune starts up instantly and syncs my iPad and iPod,

  • Mac PP CS5 not using all CPU anymore

    All,
I was a cutting a project a while back and put it to the side for a while. I just went back to it and asked Prem to render the work are and was surprised to see it taking forever. I opened the CPU perf view and found hardly any CPU being used. I have a MacPro 2.9GHz 12 core machine with 48M memory and the project drive is a striped set of WD Caviar Blacks. Not only is the machine not breaking a sweat its not even getting out of bed.
Yes I have installed Apple patches since then and some software. PPCS5 is up to date. We I was using the machine a while back it was firing on all threads and cores.
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Jim

    Hi Bill,
Thanks for your email. Yes I did try PPBM5 with some success. Separate to this I decided to let the render run from end to end on my project to see what would happen. So what I saw:
    - first 600 odd frames very quick (very = blindingly)
    - then it got to 900 odd frames very quick but then came back to the 600th odd frame where each frame took minutes to render for about 60 frames.
    - all this time the machine didnt break a sweat,(basically flatline).
    - after the slow 60 frames all the processors came to life and for the rest of the render (thousands of frames and multiple sequences) and it was rendering normally
Im trying to figure out what those 60 frames were, as I cant see anything overly complex there that would mean PPCS5 would fail to use all the CPU available (if anything 1 core jumped up every now and then).
    Thanks

  • System not using all avail. mem.

Hi all, did a lot of forum searching and haven't seen this topic.
I'm using PPCS5(in production Premium) While rendering, the program is not using all available memory. before I go on here is the system I am using:
    Win7pro
    EVGA X58FTW mobo
    I7 970
    6x4gig Kingston hyperX 1600 RAM
    Quadro fx4000
    WD 140gig Raptor sys. drive
    2x1TB RAID 0 (3gig SATA) data
    2x2TB RAID 0 (6gig SATA) data
    see image:
I have 21gigs allocated to the program.
Is the bottleneck the cache memory?
    This is what I'm outputting:
    Thanks for looking.

There is a little contradiction in the information here, HDV is 1440 x 1080 i60 or possible p30 I do not know of any camera that is 60p

  • Windows 8 - Restart as system service using Windows Live ID

I have a PC that is running Windows 8.1 that has UAC enabled. To bypass this, i attempted to restart as a system service. I entered the Administrator accounts login credentials which is a Windows live ID, but i kept getting that the login was incorrect. I am 100% sure i am entering the information correctly, i do it many times a day :)

I am having some of the same issues. I believe it requires you to have a seperate user that is an administrator then the one you are currently logged in as.

  • 10.5.0.142 upgrade now itunes services using 100% cpu

My itunes has updated a couple of days back and since then I've been unable to synch my iphone 4 AND more importantly my laptop is running really slow. I checked and AppleMobileDeviceService.exe is utilising 50% of cpu. Even without itunes open! If I launch Itunes then I'm up to 100% and my laptop becomes unuseable. I've tried reinstalling to previous versions of itunes but because the libarry has been upgraded to 10.5 previous versions of Itunes wont work with my library.
I can terminate the cpu hungry process and gain control of my laptop but now I can't synch my iphone and working with itunes is very slow.
Clearly something's not right and it all appears to have happened as a result of the last update.
Interestingly, when I retroinstalled previous versions of Itunes AppleMobileDeviceService.exe did not appear to be present or if it was it was using so little resource it wasn't showing on the listings of services that were using resource.
My laptop is Windows 7 SP1 with latest updates applied.
Similar problems seem to be plaguing alot of users since the end of September???
This looks like and Apple issue?
Anyone had this as well and resolved it?

Fixed. Downgraded to 10.4.0.8 with clean 10.4.0.8 library.
Lost my music content which I'm happy to rip again but many wouldn't.
    Iphone synching perfectly.
CPU utilisation with iTunes and applemobiledeviceservice.exe running below 10%
    BINGO!
So there we have it, 10.4.0.8 is perfectly fit for purpose.
So what conclusions do we draw from this exercise relating to the 10.5 upgrade to iTunes and the over 11,000 views of similar problems on this forum?

  • PPro not using all cpu cores evenly

    Hey Guys!
I've been recently trying to optimize my laptop to get better performance.
    I have a Lenovo Y550P -
    i7 Q 720 1.60 GHz
    8GB Ram
Nvidia GT240m video card (1gb ram)
    64 bit windows 7
    500 gb 7200 RPM HDD
I know this is not the ideal setup, but it is what I have.
I have a massive amount of GoPro footage to process, and was having issues shuttling at 1/4 resolution.  I made some tweaks such as:
    removed windows visual effects
    enabled hard drive write buffering
disable CPU core parking (laptop thing)
various tweaks to the services.msc file
"enabled" my video card for cuda =)
This has greatly improved my shuttling for 2x and 4x.  however when I watch the performance monitor I notice it uses CPU cores 4 & 7 significantly more than the other cores.  CPU usage only reaches about 40% during shuttling, yet stutters.
Here is a screen capture of resource monitor on disks:  I'm currently reading the footage from an external USB 3.0 drive (F), scratch disks are set to internal (C).
Here is a screen capture of CPU resources, notice how cpu core 4 (start from 0) has higher usage.
Is there something I can improve on my setup to make my system more efficient, or is all this just because of the HDD bottleneck?  Any advice on improving my limited systems performance would be appreciated.
    Thank you for your time!

    Sorry, here are the images!

  • Cc2014 not using all CPU cores or GPU

I'm using the new CC2014, and I exported a project straight out of Premiere and it utilized all 8 of my CPU and my GPU. When I export using Adobe Media Encoder, it only uses one core and doesn't seem to use the GPU at all. I tried changing the setting to from GPU to software only, and it didn't seem to make a difference.

Just found out, that drag and drop PPro Sequences into AME seems to be a work-around.Plus unchecking the "Import Sequences Natively" in AME.
Well, ..indeed it worked. Not very convenient though and it's a bug that's been around for a while (7 month!! according to some users).
Please fix this, cannot be too hard, can it?
What bothers me even more is a still low CPU usage of around 35% over all when exporting....
    My system:
    i7-5930K @ 4.40GHz (overclocked)
    Gigabyte GTX 770 GB
    SSD cache drive
    HDD-RAID0 assets drive
    Windows 8.1

  • Mdworker still using all cpu + poor video performance

I had an older macbook 1,1 and installed a new HDD and increased the RAM to 2 GB. I did a clean install of Snow Leopard, did all the software updates, then I migrated applications and files from my old disk that was Tiger 10.4.11. I copied all of my music and pictures from an external drive onto the new HDD, so I put about 140 gb of new data on the new drive after Snow Leopard was installed.
It's been on for a week now and mdworker is always using 40-80% of the CPU. I have force quit the process but it seems to keep coming back. I also unchecked all the boxes in the Spotlight preferences and that has not changed anything.
According to activity monitor mdworker process had read over 15 TB before I killed it, the HDD is only 500 GB.
How can I get this cpu hog to behave better?
I am not sure if it is only due to the mdworker issue, but ever since the upgrade my computer can not render video about 360P resolution without freezing up. Videos I could watch before the upgrade now lock up the system. I have also found Quicktime 7 seems to run better than Quicktime 10. Can I get rid of the newer Quicktime or make 7 the default for files and streaming video?

    Reply,
I already ran all of the diagnostics in Onyx tool, which I am pretty sure runs the same or very similar disk checks.
    Thanks for your respoonse.
I put the HDD in privacy and now mdworker is not running. I can live with out spotlight. I read somewhere (that I can't find any more!) a way to read the logs of mdworker to see if it is getting stuck on a particular file and ending up in an infinite loop. There's no way it should take a week to index a 500 GB drive.
Still have issues with Quicktime being very slow and stalling. Videos ran better on Tiger, both streaming off the web and files on my machine are really choppy and will freeze up with this now.
I am very close to restoring 10.4.11 on the system and giving the SL DVD to a friend. Beginning to think this machine is just not fast enough for this OS. Even though I maxed out the RAM and have a lot of free disk space it is slower than Tiger.

  • Color not using all CPU

Hello, Color is rendering very slowly on my iMac 20" with 2,13 GHz CPU and ATI X1600. According to Activity monitor, it takes up to only 30 percent of CPU. Do you have any hint what may be wrong? There are no other system-intensive tasks running.

It is using about 107% on our Quad...
(Is there a way to measure the GPU useage?)
