  • Burning cds and transfering to usb stick

Must music downloaded from the net be converted to a specific format in order to burn a cd or transfer to a usb stick and be played either in a car or PC that doesn't have Itunes installed?
There are so many formats out there that I am a bit confused with the following audio files; AAC, Apple Lossless, MPeg.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

iTunes will use WAV. AIFF, MP3, AAC or Apple Lossless to burn an audioCD.
If you want to transfer to a usb stick, make sure the format of the file can be played on what you are going to play it on.

  • Problem mounting usb stick with ISO installed on it [SOLVED]

I'm experiencing a weird problem regarding mounting usb sticks. Archlinux stopped auto-mounting usb sticks on my machine, but only those that contains an operating system.  Empty or data usb sticks mount without problem.
A few weeks or month ago, I don't remember exactly, still everything was all right, but due to updates(?) usb sticks won't auto mount any more.
I have two arch partitions none of them mount usb sticks anymore with operating systems on them.
Today, I wanted to test a new operating system and write it on my usb stick, and of course I couldn't because arch didn't mount it. Luckily, on my other partitions a few old distos are still installed – I don't use them anymore for years- I booted them up and they mounted the usb stick without problem; it seems only the up-to-date system have problem handling the usb sticks. I have two Arch system installed on two different partitions, Gnome 3 and Enlightenment, both system are up to date.
    Here are some info:

What is sdc1p? Is that another USB stick? It seems to have an equally weird partition map.
By the way, you can't create an Arch USB bootable in EFI mode with dd. Obviously don't know about sabayon.
EDIT: Did you dd to the disk or to a partition? What command exactly did you use? Because it almost looks as if you did something like dd once and create one thing and then dd over the top of one of the partition so you've got a partition which itself has a partition map. Not sure that's possible but it sure looks weird.
I would wipe the key and start over.
I don't know what is that. It is a partition on the same usb stick, it was the “dd” that made that partition automatically, I guess. When I burn images into usb, I always use this command:
    # dd bs=4M if=/path/to/archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdx && sync
I used this when burned Sabayon and it works perfectly.
The problem is that Arch can't auto-mount its own installation usb either. I put the arch install usb in and I get the following output:

  • USB stick very slow

    Hello,
I don't use my USB stick very often, so only today I've found that copying from/to USB is VERY slow (~10kb/s). I remember that some time ago the speed was fast enough. What is wrong, why USB is so slow now?

I recently had to reinstall my system due to a corrupted pacman database.
This is the first time I used my usb sticks and cardreader since the reinstall, and the speed is very slow. It now takes 1.5 hours to transfer 100Mbs of data to and from my usb sticks.
This wasn't the case before I reinstalled: It only took under a minute to transfer 100+Mbs of data.
    My fstab:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information

  • USB stick slow to mount

Ever since kernel 2.6.6 (currently using 2.6.9) I have been having some slow mount times (takes about 20 seconds to mount my USB stick). I have tried both devfs and udev but both yield the same results. Currently I am using udev (hence the /dev/stick).
USB media support is compiled into the kernel, as well as all necessary USB bus support (V1's - V2).
    My fstab entry:
    /dev/stick /mnt/usbstick vfat rw,users,noauto,noexec 0 0
    demesg output:
    [root@intel2500 jjohnson]# dmesg

Strangely, the last eight lines 'loop' or repeat themselves over and over (too long to post obviously). I think this might have something to do with the slowness however I have no idea what it means. Once it is mounted, the device operates at speeds comparable to Windoze.
    Thanks for any help.

Have you tried plugging in the devices one at a time to see if the problem is with just one of them?
If so, you may need to contact the manufacturer & see if they say it is compatible with 10.4.6 as is, or may need a firmware update, which hopefully they can provide.
Note: when I Googled "Dazzle compact flash reader OS X" I got several hits suggesting at least one model with this description isn't very compatible with OS X, like this one.

Hello, I downloaded an ntfs systemfile from tuxera and used it to convert a usb stick so I could put more than the fat32 4gb on, my Imac froze a while after so I turned it off the on and now I have blue vertical lines on boot up and the a white screen with lots of tine blue symbols after, mouse pointer moves but thats about it.
Have used R and cmd to get a menu up but once I choose one of the four options my mouse is rendered useless and I cant get any further, have downloaded, to another usb stick recovery disk assisstant and am trying to use that in conjunction with the lion option on the previously mentioned screen, computer was responding really slowly and has now frozen on the terms of software license agreement (maybe the last hurdle!) can anyone pleeeeeease help!!!!!??????

It's likely that the boot drive is failing, or that there's some other hardware fault. Run the Apple Hardware Test.
Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

  • System slow while copying files

    Hi,
    I found a problem on my iMac 27" (2011).
While I'm copying files from a folder to another in the same hdd (this only happens with the iMac hdd) or when unzip a file my system slows down, if I'm watching a video, sometimes freezes the image and then continues.
    is it normal?
I've tryed to reset PRAM NVRAM, and verify permissions, and nothing seems to solve the problem.

Copying files from one folder to another on the same harddrive puts double duty on the harddrive to read And write the files.  This also consumes CPU cycles, so when watching video, which is data intense from the harddrive or internet also, your system is under heavy load and what you are experiencing is pretty normal.  That is one reason that heavy data and viedo users often upgrade when ordering their machine to extra harddrives, hyperthreading CPU's, more RAM and oversized graphics cards.
    Hopee this helps

  • Very slow transfer's to USB sticks...

I've been having this for some time, so I thought I'd ask around.
When I try transferring a file from my Mac Book Pro to a USB stick, it takes a very long time. The files are around 3-3.5GB. It says 10 minutes but it takes longer and I get the spinning wheel thingy. If I walk away and let it go, it will evenly finish.
    Any ideas/?

I do remember noticing something similar to what the OP has observed. And maybe it was with a lower priced USB stick. But I was able to copy smaller files to it without delay, however I gave up on using it with larger files. I think the last stick I bought was an 8 GB one. I wonder if we run into problems when copying files that are of a size that is a significant percentage of the size of the stick? Not sure. But I remember being able to copy 1 GB files easily but ran into problems at 3 or 4 GB.

    Steve M.

  • Flash drives and SD/microsd heats up and slow while transferring files, is this normal?

My new macbook pro heats up my flash drives/sdhc/microsd while transferring files. I thought it was just the Micro sd itself (using MicroUSB adapter) but when plugging in a differnt flash drive it too was getting hot and quickly heating up. I also thought it is pretty slow for a Class 10, which i dont think it is the it could be the flash memory, is there something i am doing wrong? its using mac os x journaled format. This also happens when i plug it in the sdxc slot. Any ideas?

I had another apparently hung Time Machine backup today.
Starting Dashboard did NOT fix it this time. However, after what seemed like a long time (probably 5-10 minutes) it apparently freed up on its own and completed the backup normally. This makes it appear my previous result was just "coincidence".
There were a few error messages thrown into the Console this time by the "backupd" process -- An "Error(-43)" while apparently attempting to find a path to a file with a "null" name.
Despite that, the backup seems to have copied what it was supposed to copy.

  • While transferring my documents from my Desktop to my new Apple laptop through a memory stick all of my files on my Desktop were lost. What Happened?

While transferring my Documents from my desktop to my new Apple laptop through a memory stick all of my documents were lost. I cannot find them anywhere...What happened?

If I'm reading this right, you copied the Documents folder from your User account to a memory stick? How big was the Documents folder?
How did you carry out the copy?
Drag and drop from user account to stick? - This should copy the data leaving the originals on your desktop Mac.
⌘-drag from user account to stick? - This would move the files - copy them over, then delete the originals.
Entire folder at one go or a few files at a time?
Assuming that you used the memory stick as received (straight out of the pack) it would almost certainly be formatted FAT32 or even FAT16 so it can be used onWindows or Mac. There are file size limits with both those formats, which could cause problems, but I'm not sure complete loss of data would result.

  • USB stick shows up in Apple system but not in Disk utilities nor in finder

I havebought a brand new USB stick, brand Intenso (this is the last time I buy this brand!!) . I opened it and pluged it to the fast usb port on my Imac (osx10.5.8), till now all good, it shows up on the finder I save an important file on it and eject. A week later, my hard disk crashes, I try to recup a little data here and there. I dig out the Intenso stick, plug it: NOTHING. It appears in the Hard Disk: About------->More Info but not in the finder nor in Disk Utilities.
I tried on another mac laptop this time, still nothing and a laptop Pc: nothing.
Given that I already lost mega valuable data, it would a gift of God if someonecan help me recup at least this file!! Help

I could be looking at the wrong Disk Doctor application, the one I saw would not recover files, at least that is what I understood from the write up, it could be a different application than the one you have though.
Disk warrior is expensive and there is no guarantee that it would work, I suppose if you cannot find another application then you have a decision on if you want to buy it.
I would suggest you stop trying to recover the files until you have determined what applcation you want to use, the more your try and access the USB stick the more you are likely to make things worse. When you have a suitable application then give it a try, hopefully it will work for you.
    Good luck
