HELP!

I had the same problem. I had to go to my local verizon store and talk to the manager. He got on the phone with someone, tech support or whatever, and they pushed it to me that evening about two hours later. Took all of five minutes in the store just giving them my name and phone number. Hope that helps.

    To further explain:
I didn't need to locate any invisible files in my case.  I discovered that I had 4 versions of the System Preferences application on my computer.  (The System Preference applicatioin is what loads the preference pains when you seledt System Preferences.)  I merely searched for "System Preferences" in spotlight.  Spotlight located 4 different versions of the System Preferences application. Some of those versions apparently tied to preference panes that used the old 32 bit encoding from the non Intel processor days.  When I clicked on the System Preferences under the Apple menue it was apparently pulling up an old version of the System Preferences applicatioin instead of the correct one in the main Applications folder.  I also noted that if I clicked on System Preferernces in the dock or directly in the the Applications folder, I would not have the problem of some of the preference panes not able to be viewed because of the " "it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac" message.  So I surmised that the correct System Preferences application was in the Applications Folder on the top level of the drive directory like it was supposed to be but that when I clicked on System Preferences from the Apple menue it was loading one of the 3 old System Preferences applications that were buried elsewhere on my hard drive.  If you find you have more than one System Preferences application on your hard drive you need to trash the other System Preferences Applications.  Before trashing the duplicates, you should test the one in the main Applications folder by directly double clicking it and make sure all the preference panes in it work properly then trash the duplicate System Preferences applications you found in spotlight.
You may also find like I did, that you not only have duplicates of the System Preferences on your hard drive but also several old duplicates of the entire Applications folder buried on your hard drive. if that is the case you should compare each folder and make sure there is nothing in the old duplicate Applications folders you still need.  You will probably find that all of the latest versions of your applications are in the main Applications folder where they should be.  If so then trash all the old duplicate Applications folders as well.  Keep only the main Applications folder on the top level of the hard drive.
Trashing all these extra old Applications folders that held old duplicates of all my applications in them on my hard drive solved a bunch of other problems I was having with some of the applications as well.
For the technically minded:  Why does this happen with Mavericks and not with Mountain Lion?  I suspect that the old Applications folders and old duplicate System Sreferences applications didn't matter to Mountain Lion because it searched for the System Preference application under the Apple menu differently than Mavericks does.  I believe Mountain Lion seached all the top levels of the Application folder before drilling down into any subfolders to find the System Preferences application.  Mavericks apparently does it the opposite way.  It searches the first subfolder in you Applications folder and drills all the way down in that subfolder first before going to the next subfolder and drilling down in that subfolder all the way to the bottom.  So it searches all the subfolders before searching the main level of the Applications folder for System Preferences.  Since my old duplicate System Preferences applications where in subfolders with titles that were earlier in the alphabet than the main System Preferences application it searched those subfolders first, found the old System Preferences application in the those earlier folders and loaded the old System Preferences first in the subfolders instead of the correct one further on in the main Applications folder.  If any one else has a better idea let me know.

  • Mac G5 ***** - Classic OS9 System Support won't load despite best efforts

Very Frustrated PC user - trying to switch to Mac. I have G5 iMac with OS 10.4.3. I am simply trying to install my wife's new Casio digital camera software which needs Classic to work.
What the F? Every PC known to man is backwards compatible; why not the "easiest computer in the world," aka Mac?
So, I have the installer disc for OS9 System Support and everytime I try to install it, it stops in the middle and reads "The application Installer quit unexpectedly."
    Any suggestions?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I'd like to add to the woes. Last summer I purchased
a G5 tower (on eBay) that had 10.3 on it. I needed to
transfer my data, older applications, and System
folder from my B/W G3 (400 MHz) over to the G5 in a
Classic folder. One of the forums here said to use an
Ethernet cable to make the transfer. The good news:
my data from the old computer transferred.
That was the good news. The bad news: even though I
transferred it, I actually created two different
Classic folders. Now, it will only open one of them.
And, in addition, each time Classic attempts to
mount, I get an error message:
"The system software on the startup disk only
functions on the original media, not if copied to
    another drive."
You get that error message if you copy the System Folder from the system CD onto a hard drive. The System Folder on a CD contains a special version of the System file which will not work on a hard drive. You should delete that System Folder forthwith.
So, I guess I have several questions:
    1) May I delete the two folders that have Classic in
    them?
Just kill the one copied from the CD.
    2) If so, how may I do so safely?
put the System file somewhere else, put the System Folder into the Trash, reboot, empty the Trash, put the System file into the Trash, empty the Trash.
    3) Since I still need Classic for some applications
(that I'm too poor/cheap to spend the money to
upgrade), and since the disks I received with the
computer didn't have Classic on them at all,
If you got the original system discs, you got a disc which has Classic. There will be an alias specifically set to install Classic.
    what is
the best way to get Classic installed on this
    machine?
May I also introduce an unrelated problem? This G5
tower, as purchased, was partitioned. It has a system
partition and a regular partition. Is there a way for
me to have no partitions without wiping the drive
    clean first?
No. When you repartition it you kill the current partitions.
    Many thanks!!!

  • Macbook Pro 2010, new HD install, Software won't load

    Hello all,
Having some trouble with my 2010 500gb Macbook Pro 13" unibody, and Mac OSX 10.6.3 software. I was originally booting into the grey screen/spinning wheel so I ran it in verbose to get a look at what was going on. I was getting a diskos/2 error or something of the sort, and figured hard drive issues. I took it to the genius bar to verify the problem, and they agreed the hard drive had failed and needed to be replaced. I went ahead and replaced both the hard drive and the hard drive cable with a SATA 500gb mainstream classique and some off brand of the cable. I have been trying to reload my original software disk, and have been having some issues. I am forced to reload from an external optical drive, due to some issues with my Pro's CD drive. I have reset the PRAM, ran disk utility and checked the hardware, held option when loading, tried to boot in safe mode, so on and so on. None of it has worked. When I insert the CD to load, it will spin for a while, then the apple logo will come up with the spinning wheel, then the Apple logo disappears, the CD quits spinning in the optical drive, and a circle with a slash through it appears. It has done this multiple times. I know the disk is good, it will load in another Mac fine. My issue is I can't even get the disk to load. When I hold option upon the mac booting up, I can click on the Mac OSX install option, but it doesn't go anywhere. Just goes straight back to the apple logo. Any advice?
    Thanks.

If that were the issue, wouldn't I at least be able to open up the OSX software and get started loading it? I know if that were the problem, I would have nothing to select to save the software to... But it won't even open the software set up.

  • J4680 wireless software won't load on Windows 7

I have been trying to load wireless software for my office jet printer but it reaches a point where it is looking for a file that it cannot find, hpzprl40.exe. The file is not on the disk. i downloaded the latest software with the same results. The printer does show on the wireless network, but I cannot load the drivers in my HP computer because of the missing file.

Alright. These next few steps are a little more complicated but I think you should be able to follow along. Id like to try to stop all the TSR programs running in the background. Heres how we can do it.
On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), type msconfig in the Search Programs and Files box, and then press Enter . The User Account Control window opens.
Click Continue . The System Configuration window opens.
Click the General tab, and then click Selective Startup check box.
If there is a checkmark next to Load Startup items, click the checkmark to remove it.
Click the Services tab, and then click Hide All Microsoft Services (at the bottom of the Services tab).
Click Disable All , and then click Ok .
Click Restart . The computer automatically restarts.
Post back with your results so I can make sure we get this issue resolved!

  • 23" HD Display (ADC/2004 model); Display Software Won't Load

I have a Quicksilver 733Mhz w/OSX Tiger and just bought a used 23" HD Cinema Display (ADC) which works great. Yet as the menu bar appears very small I thought the Display S/W (v2.2.2) will not load--during license agreement/select destination load, there's an (!)Warning stating "this Disp. s/w req's Mac OSX v. 10.1.3 to be inst'd on the disk". I bought the Q'Silver 733 used and it came w/Panther installed. Do I have to start from scratch installing and older OSX (OSX 10.1) and incrementally update it thru all newer versions until I reach what I'm running now (10.4.2)? I cannot find ANY display s/w updates in Downloads, and have run out of resources. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ken K.

    Hi Ken,
Welcome to the discussions. If you have installed Tiger properly, all the required drivers for this display (and the graphics card) will have been bundled in that (Tiger) installation. You shouldn't need to install drivers.
In fact, do not attempt to load in display drivers that are older than the system you have running, that may cause serious conflicts.
You mention that the menu bar is a bit small for your liking. Have a look in Display Preferences and see what screen resolutions are available - you might find something that works better for you.
By the way, what graphics card do you have installed?
    Cheers!

If it's XP, you don't need the 6.2 version!   I have Palm Desktop 4.2 on my XP box, and all my TX's and my Centro all live in perfect harmony...

  • Dreamweaver CS6 won't open, tried to update software, but software won't load

I have CS6 (not cloud) installed on my computer, I use Photoshop and Illustrator regularly with no problems.  I recently got a freelance job that requires me to use Dreamweaver.  I've used it in the past but it's been some time since I've opened the program.  Recently I've tried to launch CS6 Dreamweaver and the Application won't open, but my Illustrator and Photoshop programs open just fine.  I tried to update my software through the Adobe Application Manager but its claiming that the update has failed and cannot be applied.  Is there a reason my applications are not working properly?

  • System Preferences won't load

Hello community, I recently got my old iMac G4 Flat Panel out of its box, not having used it for a year. All looked OK but trying to go on line for updates, the System Preference Network, Sharing and other items wouldn't load. I was running 10.4.5 and did a combo update to 10.4.11 (didn't check if that was OK but at least I ran repair permissions first!). This didn't get rid of the problem. I run Macaroni and updated all the checks there. I searched these boards, didn't come up with much but apart from trying to load via Applications (didn't work) didn't find much.
Is there a corrupt start up sequence or something? Plists gone walkies? Most grateful for any assistance.
    Cheers

Have you tried opening System Preferences by double-clicking its icon in the Applications folder?

  • 8600 disk software won't load on yosemite

Have had an Officejet 8600 for a while running on an old PowerPC G4 Mac tower.  The software on the disk worked fine, including the scanning software.  Just bought a new Mac Mini running Yosemite (OS 10.10).  The HP disk (CM749-10002) will not load.  Would like to get the scanning software back on the desktop -- made it very easy to control the scanning process.

Unfortunately HP does not yet have the drivers available for Yosemite 10.10 as it is relatively new OS.
    They only have OS-X 10.9
You will have to wait until the drivers are made available.  Please check the driver website from time to time.

  • New Version of Software won't load to iPod Mini

When I plug my mini into iTunes I'm asked if I'd like to update the software on it. I say yes and I get a message box saying "iPod updating" and a little green line goes backwards and forwards in the box while the message stays on the screen saying "iPod updating" .... it goes on and on and on and on but nothing else happens. I've tried to update twice - leaving it for a few hours to see if anything happens - but nothing does. Any ideas anyone??

  • System Update Won't Load

R51 running XP Pro.  When I click the System Update Icon, I get a message that says - tvsukernel.exe - can not be found.  I did a <Search> and it is not on the system.  Checked the Lenovo System Update folder and see that most of the files were updated on 5/19/2008.  Is it possible that that update deleted 'tvsukernel.exe'?
