System Sounds After WebOS 1.1.0 Install

I noticed after installing the latest update that my system sounds were affected. The "swoosh" sound (when closing cards) didn't work (although I was able to fix that by restarting) and the "bell" sound that occurs when receiving text messages has changed. It sounds deeper and somewhat hollow. All other sounds are unaffected. Has anyone else experienced this?

My wifes PRE kept shutting down on it own. We went back to sprint and they could not fine the issue, We called Palm and they denied it. Then one day it DIED......
Nothing, Nodda, No beat......
So Sprint gave us a new one.

Hello everyone,
I am using Soundtrack Pro 1.1 (UB) and I have noticed that, when I quit the program (normally way), my system sound disappeared, not even a "click" that I used to hear when I got a new mail... The only way (to me so far) to get back the system sound is to restart the machine... :..(
The Soundtrack Pro 1.1 works just fine, no problem with music editing... Just the system sound has gone to nowhere...!
Can someone suggest me something in order to fix this issue? And I thank you very much for your time and instructions.

I've been using Soundtrack Pro for a while and I suspect that this is a symptom of some issue in 10.4.6. I've had that happen on 10.4.6 even without Soundtrack Pro, and I never experienced this before 10.4.6 was installed on my machine.
Easy fix: Start Audio MIDI Setup (in Applications/Utilities) and change the sample rate of the audio device (e.g. change it from 48K to 44.1K then back to 48K) and it will start working again (at least that seems to fix it for me).

System problems after Security Update 2007-007 install

I am having problems with my computer after installing the 2007-007 security update. Specifically, the keyboard and mouse become non-functional at random intervals. The system has not frozen up, though, as items on the screen continue to update. Each time this has happened, I have had to ssh into the machine from another one and reboot. I am on a dual G4 Powermac, 867 MHz with 2 GB of RAM running OS X 10.4.10. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Hard to say. Have a bootable backup of your installation before the update? Did you repair permissions and repair the disk before installing? How soon after rebooting does the problem come back? Have you checked the console and system logs?

I'm having a migraine over a computer at work. It has Windows Xp Pro installed as the OS, and originally had an integrated sound card. At some point, before I was even hired in, the system sounds stopped playing. The BIOS for the machine showed that sounds were On. The Windows Default sound scheme was selected, nothing was muted, volume was cranked, no system sounds. When you even tried to test system sounds in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Sounds Tab, the Play button was greyed out. At one points CD's and other sounds could be played. Now nothing plays, with an error stating the device is not working properly, or is in use. So today I installed a SoundBlaster Li've! 24-bit PCI card. Card went in, installed all the drivers, installed all software from the install CD, opened the Creative sound manager to test the speakers. Clicked the 'Channel' button and 'Left Channel' was heard from the left speak, and 'Right Channel' from the right. Clicked the noice button, both speakers played noise. So card works and speakers work far as I know. However same old story with system sounds and any other sound, no matter the sound file type. Cannot play music from a CD. I've tried disabling the old integrated sound device, still no luck. I've never had this much trouble over sound, and of course as luck would have it the machine is for a user with a ton of sensiti've and very important data so I want wiping the system to be an extreme last resort (the user is also important enough to bother with the demand for sound for the sole purpose of hearing the .wav sound played when Outlook gets a new e-mail otherwise I would not have spent more then 5 seconds dealing with this.) Anyone have any tiny clue as to what could effecti'vely tell a machine it's not allowed to play any sound whatsoever?

After upgrading to itunes 7.3.2 system sound does not work

I recently upgraded my itunes to 7.3.2 and the sound worked for a short time. it then began to cut on and off until ceasing to work completely after a day or so. I have run diagnostics and my computer can produce sound, but not in any programs or any of the system sounds. i reinstalled windows xp and the sound worked, but when i installed itunes again the sound once again stopped completely. i have checked all the drivers, codecs, hardware etc. and they seem to be in order. what is going on?

I really struggled with this one and my IT people couldn't help. They suggested that I add my secure corporate website to the Java Exceptions Sites, and use the Java client, but that didn't work. I tried the CITRIX Native CLient (ICA Client) and that didn't work either. So, I searched my Mac for all of the instances of CitrixICAClient, or anything else with ICA in it. I then deleted all of those files, shut down Safari, rebooted my computer and tried again to log into my corporate site using the Native Client conenction option. I remembered from years ago, that the first time you try to connect using the native client, that Citrix plugin is downloaded. THat's exactly what happened and I haven't had any more problems. So apparently, you have to clean up a little adn make sure that any "old" citrix products are removed.

I recently helped my uncle install windows 7 on his HP Pavilion dv1710us Notebook PC
and there was no sound after installation.. i downloaded several drivers for the realtek high definition audio driver (R2.39, 38, 37, etc)
then i tried the original driver from the HP drivers page and installed it.
usually when there is no sound, there would be a red X on the volume icon, but when i installed the original driver from the HP drivers page, there was no more red X.. Thinking that the sound was fixed, I tried to go on youtube and watch a video... i see the green bar moving up and down on the volume slide, but then i can't hear anything.
So is there any realtek high definition audio driver compatible for windows 7 on the HP pavilion dv1710us?
Is there something I have to do, like right click on the application and then change compatibility settings?

I got it to work with windows 7 32 bit. I just went to hp website to support and downloads section. Type in your model number, then select windows xp as the operating system. Then download the audio driver and save it to your desktop. After the file is on your desktop you need to right click on it and click properties, then go to compatability tab and tell it to install as windows xp service pack 3. Hit apply then install. Hope it works for ya, worked for me.

It took a while to find it on the discussion list but this is a link to the page that had two good answers. It only took me 20+ minutes of reading each post that had sound problems.

I did what he said and it worked - got my sound back, be sure to exit QT from the system tray after making the change and then open it up again. It does work.
mune had the goods on where to find an older copy of QT 7.03 & I-Tunes. Remove the troublemaker and then install the prior version. For the time being you might want to uncheck the automatic update until Apple gets the bugs out of this one.
I'm recovering from a hard drive loss so I had no choice but to install QT 7.04. From my vail of tears I beg you, back that stuff up!

Loss of all sound after installing iTunes 7.7

I was not having any problems with iTunes and was converting old vinyl records to CD's. When the converting software opened up iTunes, a dialog box asked if I wanted to install iTunes 7.7 I then installed iTunes 7.7. After doing so I had no sounds on my computer. I uninstalled Quick Time and reinstalled it--still no sounds. I uninstalled iTunes--still no sounds. I did several system restores--still no sounds. I reinstalled iTunes---still no sounds. Is is possible to install an earlier version of iTunes?

Okay. Try heading into your Control Panel and launching your Sounds and Audio Devices control panel. Click the Audio tab.

Portege 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro

I'm a novice when it comes to laptops, so here is the problem: My 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro. Didn't have sound when I bought it with another operating system on, report says no sound device installed.
Does this mean I need to get a chip for the laptop or is it a driver I need & where can I find the part or the driver for this.
Please help.

Usually if the sound driver was not installed you will get no sound but also a yellow exclamation mark should appear in the device manager.
If the sound card chip is damage I presume you will be not able to see the yellow exclamation belonging to the sound card in the device manager.
You bought this Portg as a second hand unit. Am I right?
So possibly the sound card is faulty.
The computer uses a ESS ES1978 (Maestro-2E) and ES1918 sound chip.
Check if you can find an XP sound driver in the internet.

No iOS sounds after installing iOS 6

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 a few months ago I get no iOS sounds (apps, videos, click when typing, music, etc). The phone rings just fine so I know its not the speaker but, the volume cannot be adjusted. Apparantly, this is happening to a ton of people. I've tried restoring it several times and the sounds will come and go for a bit then stop all together. I reset it holding the home and lock button for 10-20 seconds. I cleaned the dock port with canned air. I connected it to iTunes, called it, and unplugged it while ringing. No luck. After speaking with Apple support they told me it was hardware and needed to be sent in and would cost up to $200. This is just rediculous.
Has anyone found a soultion to this?

Soundflower is a third party audio utility. It is not an Apple product. It has been installed on your system by someone. Perhaps there is some kind of conflict with 10.6.2 because the 10.6.2 update does not change system sound settings.

However, After installing the driver everything is working fine(mute/unmute light) except there is no sound. I tried pretty much everything and still it doesnt work. Similar problem just happened to me with the Creative Cloud Update 1.7.1.418—slightly different so I thought I'd share. I have multiple Adobe Creative Cloud programs installed on my computer, all working just fine. I updated the Cloud App to the latest version and then it shows me that I have only one program installed! All my previously installed programs (Photoshop and the like) still work but show as "install" instead of "Up to date". Initially I thought I'd have to re-install the Cloud app or recreate the OPM data base but then I noticed that some of the Cloud app preferences (Apps > Settings > App Language) were different to what I had set previously. I use English (International) language, the update had reverted the app back to English (North American). I flicked back to my previous language and bam, all my apps now show as being installed correctly.

System Sound Output Level Reset After Reboot ?

Whenever my iMac Core Duo is rebooted, system sound output level always get reset to value 0.56 (-24dB) as shown in utility "/Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup". I have to increase the system sound output level to desired value of 0.75(-12.75dB) to match with built-in amplifier of Altec Lansing FX6021 speaker system. The desired setting lasts until next reboot. Is there any way I can fix the system sound output level at desired level between reboots ? Why I have to be involved in such constant struggle with the iMac for such simple audio configuration ?
Audio Hijack Pro 2.6.7 wihtout Soundflower 1.1 virtual audio device has been installed. Audio hijack function of this utility has not been used at all. Thank you for any pointer.

Thanks for the confirmation that my iMac is not an isolated case. In case you are not willing to use Audio Hijack Pro, just use Automator to create an Automator script to set system volume (In Automator's Library plane: Applications>System>Set System Volume) and save it as application. Set this application as Login Items for your account through following menu path:
System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items. Whenever you login with this account, the script will be invoked automatically by Mac OS X and sound levels for output, input and alert will be set to user preferred levels. For older versions of Mac OS X (10.3.9 and earlier) without Automator, same effect can be achieved with Apple Script, use Apple Script Editor instead of Automator to create Apple Script and set it as Login Items. This workaround has been working consistently on my iMac Intel Core Duo.

No System Sound/Audio after updating to 10.6.2

After doing a system update to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 I've lost all system sound excluding—strangely—iChat, which still does notification pings. I don't even get the familiar "click-clack" sound when changing the volume from my keyboard.
The speakers are fine, as I can hear the iChat pings and the start-up tone. Just baffled as to what the problem could be. Any suggestions would be incredibly helpful.
Other information: I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 on a 24" iMac circa late 2007/early 2008.

I too am having this problem unless I resort to plugging in my external speakers which I don't want to use when I am not at home. I am not being given the option to switch to internal speakers oddly, please help!!!!!!!!
Another Problem: Time Machine: I am unable to restore anything now. 10.6.2 has a bug alright, this is preventing me from restoring anything on time machine back to any date on there. =/
