System spawning hundreds of Tvsukernel.exe processes/connections

My T500 has started creating hundreds - literally over a thousand before I logged out in an attempt to kill it - of connections from Tvsukernel.exe processes to crl.verisign.net, port 80. Each connection seems to download 91.8 KB, but my firewall (Online Armor) shows most of them in the "Connecting" state.
I don't seem to be able to stop this - the tvsu.exe and Tvsukernel.exe processes appear and disappear so quickly in the Task Manager that I can't kill them. While I've been typing this, it's spawned over 650 connections, and is pounding my ADSL connection pretty hard! The only way to stop it is to log out or disable the wireless connection (and as soon as I re-enable, it's off again!).Even with the wireless disabled Tvsukernel.exe is consuming approximately 50% of CP.
The system is a T500, Win XP SP3 with every MS and Lenovo update applied as of a couple of weeks ago when it was last used
Any suggestions? This thing is rendering my Thinkpad unusable.
Best,

Solved!
Go to Solution.

This problem has now gone from bad to worse. In the end, I uninstalled TVSU, since it was no use anyway and in the expectation that something else would replace it. When the new version (3.14.0024) was announced, I downloaded it and just got a chance to install it. First attempt to install failed, with a message about SUService (didn't write it down, unfortunately). However, I realized that it was probably due to the fact that I'd disabled System Update and TVT Scheduler in Services. TVT Scheduler was back to "Automatic" so I reset System Update to Automatic as well, then uninstalled and reinstalled.
However any attempt to start TVSU just results in a locked-up system -I get a flickering TVSU starup banner, the mouse pointer adds an hourglass, the mouse keeps getting captured by the banner which seems to get focus and Task Manager displays an ever-growing list of tvsu.exe processes. The only option is to use the power button to initiate a power-off (which results in a brief "DLL failed to initialise" message from uts.ex). The network behaviour is slightly different from the last time, too - it doesn't seem to be trying to connect to crl.verisign.net.
So, TVSU seems to be completely borked, leaving me with only manual updates (which ain't gonna happen - I'd prefer to have a life).
Any suggestions?

  • Two nalagent.exe processes w/ 100% cpu on App Launcher close

    Hello. We are wondering if nalagent.exe is supposed to be running twice as it does not appear to be this way on all workstations. One nalagent.exe process is running under NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM, and the other nalagent.exe process is running under the username.
    Reason we are asking is because the one running under the username consumes 100% cpu immediately after closing the Application Launcher Window running on the desktop. Upon closing the Application Launcher, the AUTHORITY\SYSTEM nalagent.exe process closes, and the user nalagent.exe process remains and instantly spikes to 100% indefinitely (unless you kill the process in the task manager).
    Using Sysinternals Process Monitor reveals that nalagent.exe is constantly scanning for the following nonexistent registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetWare\NAL\1.0\Process Management]. These registry lookups appear to be what is causing the 100% cpu usage, but why? Creating the Process Management key does not eliminate the lookups.
    This issue is possibly related to another 100% cpu bug we experienced with a "save icons" feature being stored under the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NetWare\NAL\1.0\Links] registry key. We followed the suggestion of deleting the Links key on logon in the following post and this seems to prevent nalagent.exe from automatically starting up at 100% cpu. Our current issue is only when closing the Application Launcher which starts the 100% cpu usage.
    http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod...7-sp1-hp1.html
    We have considered preventing the Application Launcher from being closed but there appears to be an underlying problem we would like to understand further. Thank you for any information.

  • Opening PDF spawns multiple AcroRd32.exe processes.

    I have a user that when he opens any PDF he'll get 4 AcroRd32.exe process spawned the first time. When that one is closed, 2 of the 4 process end. When another PDF is opened, 2 processes start, but only one ends when the PDF is closed. So after 5 PDFs are opened and closed, 6 AcroRd32.exe processes are still running.
    So far all we've done is reinstalled Adobe Reader XI. Anything you guys know on how to fix it?

    Hi chubbcheese,
    Thank You for posting on the forums. Kindly help with the information listed below.

  • Verity vspider.exe process never stops and sucks system resources

    I'm running a scheduled task to index a site on a Win2k3 server running CF8. I'm having a problem where the vspider.exe process never stops and sucks up system resources, slowing my whole server down. It actually is doing quite a bit of work... I'm directing the output into a log file, and I'm getting 300 K of information and it seems to be walking the site just fine. But it ends up not finishing the job and running forever. I have to open the task manager to terminate the process and then the server runs better.
    Any ideas?

    I have not found an answer to this problem, though it hasn't been a problem lately. I now send the output of the vspider.exe process to a log file and can check the status of the index job. I index nightly, so if the process is running at anytime, I can look at the results of the index job in my log file. This might give some clues. I have a feeling I had a corrupt index and vspider was choking. Try rebuilding your index from scratch.

    i am new on this, what should i review into the db?
    Regards and thanks in advance
    Dma.

    Hello Daniela,
    you try to perform an offline backup (which is a very uncommon way nowadays) and your SAP system is not down.
    This is also described in the official documentation:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sm32/helpdata/en/0d/d309664a0c11d182b80000e829fbfe/content.htm
    offline: Database backup in offline mode, in other words, the database is shut down during backup. When you select this parameter, BRBACKUP checks that no SAP system users are connected to the database. If an SAP System is active, the database is not shut down and BRBACKUP terminates the process with an error message (message number BR0068E).
    Regards
    Stefan

  • ERROR: The new SAP tools in /usr/sap/DEV/EHPI/abap/exe cannot connect

    Hi All.
    I am attempting to upgrade my ECC 6.0 EPH3 system to EPH4.(System 'i' V6R1M1) I am hitting an error  on phase PREP_INIT/CHECKPROF_INI which states 'ERROR: The new SAP tools in /usr/sap/DEV/EHPI/abap/exe cannot connect to your database.' The log file /usr/sap/DEV/EHPI/abap/log/DBCONNCHK.LOG contains more details about the failure.
    At this point I see the processes has created to additional kernel libraries: SAPDEV70UP and SAPDEV70U2
    I am logged on as DEVOFR per the documentation. DEVOFR is the owner of all objects in /usr/sap/DEV/EPHI.
    Here is the error from DBCONNCHK.LOG :

    When I display library SAPDEV70UP,  DBSLENCWT is there and R3OWNER is the owner.
    My DBSL is at the latest version for my environment.
    Has anyone seen this?
    Thanks in adnvance.

    FYI,
    I got past this issue by upgrading the kernel first.
    Thanks,

  • I am trying to launch Firefox 9.0.1 on Windows 7 but the application window isnt visible even though there is a firefox.exe process running in task manager.

    I am trying to launch Firefox 9.0.1 on Windows 7 but it isnt working. I try to launch it and the application window does not show. When I look at the task manager and then look at the Applications tab, Firefox isnt listed. If I go to the Processes tab, there is a firefox.exe*32 process listed. Each time I double click the Firefox icon, a new firefox.exe process is spawned but there is never a visible instance of the Firefox application.
    There are no errors in the application logs. I end up just having to kill the processes.
    I tried launching in safe mode by holding down the shift button but the same thing happens.
    Any suggestions on what to try? It has never worked since upgrading from version 8. I tried un-installing and re-installing

    I went through everything mentioned in the link you posed and nothing detailed there resolved the problem.
    The Profile folder didnt exist so I created it. Made sure the perms were good and that it was not read only.
    There are no default folders appearing under the profile folder when I start Firefox.
    I have Firefox installed to my E drive.
    Nothing happens. The process appears in the task manager but no application shows up.
    Cant start it in safe mode, cant run the profile manager.

  • Need to restart the explorer.exe process virtually every single time I need to access a file

    As the subject/title says.
    This is on my replacement ThinkPad W530 which replaced my previous T530. I had my T530 from about April until earlier this week when it was picked up. The T530 gave me nothing but problems, including, but not limited to:
    Constant stalling of everything on the laptop with no mouse movement
    An out of the blue nonfunctioning microphone mute button and fingerprint reader a few weeks after I had the T530's motherboard replaced (because of the stalling issue)
    Every hour or so, I would get successive blackouts of the screen that were about 3-5 seconds apart. Sometimes they would reset the maximisation of the windows I had open
    But I digress; those were issues with my previous ThinkPad. Now the major standout issue I have with my W530 is that pretty much any time I want to access a file, I have to close and restart the explorer.exe process. This results from:
    Not being able to access folders or folder shortcuts on my desktop
    Not being able to use anything on my taskbar including the start menu. This includes hitting the windows key
    NOTE: this is an issue with WINDOWS explorer and NOT INTERNET explorer, which one member of your support team was not able to distinguish - this person tried to direct me to WiFi troubleshooting.
    The only way I have been able to remedy this has been to use task manager to reset it.
    In addition, you would expect a W530 with an i7-3740QM and an Nvidia K2000M Quadro to be pretty much buttery smooth, especially considering it's about 2 weeks old, right? Far from it. This is the slowest excuse for a new laptop that is this well spec'd I have ever used.
    I have done factory resets and pretty much everything under the sun within the realms of the Lenovo periperhal programs to try to remedy it (so as to not void my warranty) to no avail.
    If this problem cannot be fixed without me going well out of my way, then I am demanding a refund. Your support team, whilst generally helpful and *usually* knowing what they are talking about, have not been a help, and have honestly just been another hurdle to get past so I can get my money back. I do applaud them for the willingness to sit and walk people through everything.
    If this is the price I pay for the reliability of a Lenovo ThinkPad, then I greatly look forward to the glorious day I can be rid of Lenovo from my life and making about $500 while I go buy an equivalently or better spec'd laptop from quite literally any other computer company on the planet.

    What operating system are you running? I assume they had you install the latest BIOS. True? If it were mine, I would suggest forcing it to use integrated graphics (in the BIOS) to rule out a problem with the NVidia driver.

  • Winword.exe process starts at startup after installing Adobe Acrobat X Standard

    I installed Adobe Acrobat X Standard on a Dell Latitude D610 running Windows XP Service Pack 3.  Every time the machine is started up, Winword.exe appears in the Processes tab of task manager using up to 100% of the CPU.  Word itself does not open.  If I cancel the Winword.exe process, CPU usage drops to more usual levels.  Starting Word also pushes CPU usage up to 100%.  This did not occur before Acrobat X was installed.  I used System restore to restore to a point before Acrobat was installed and the problems with Word did not occur.  Re-installed Acrobat X and the problems re-appeared.  System restore back to a previous point and the problems disappeared. I am using Word 2000.
    Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.
    Thank you.

    I don't believe Acrobat X supports Word 2000. There could be some strange incompatibility. Since you have a bright and shiny Acrobat X, maybe its time to update Word and Windows, if for no other reason that the more modern versions are much more secure.

  • Shared Services 9.3.1.1 HyS9SharedServices.exe process

    We recently started to notice that the HyS9SharedServices.exe process grows to use 1GB of memory. Currently this isn't causing any known issues, there aren't many users in the system. However about a month ago we had major performance issues with HFM / Smartview while there were "a lot" of users in the system. The problems in HFM were slow logins and slow switching between HFM applications. Smartview logins were also slow. Once in the HFM app things seemed to be fine. This lead us to look at Shared Services and we noticed that the HyS9SharedServices.exe had grown to 1GB.
    Note: there was nothing in the Shared Services logs including in debug mode.
    Ticket was opened with Oracle support and they first had us install HFM patch 9.3.1.4.10 siting this defect: 9056633 - HIGH NUMBER OF PROVIDER QUERIES WHEN USER BELONGS TO ONLY NATIVE GROUPS
    Our user security is MSAD accounts belonging to native groups so this patch made sense and seemed to resolve the issue. Oracle also had us upgrade Shared Services to SP1 so we're now on 9.3.1.1 previously on 9.3.1.0.13
    We've been monitoring the memory usage of the HyS9SharedServices.exe process over the last month and while it typically sits somewhere between 150-250MB memory usage twice, including yesterday we watched it grow to 1GB and get stuck there. Our servers are rebooted every Sunday so we expect the process to drop back down to normal again in a few days. Meanwhile we're concerned that something is triggering it to grow and get stuck at 1GB but we don't know what or if this is something that we should be concerned with. Oracle support is still working with us but still doesn't have much on this.
    One other thing of interest when looking at various logs, for example the SharedServices_Memory_Profile.log you can see memory use is ~25455 kb right up until it jumps to 167091 kb and then to 681665 kb starting at 12:01pm yesterday right when the process started to grow. Then at 12:11pm according to the log it's back down to 25516 kb but this is not how windows is reporting it as it's still currently showing it at 1,059,676 K. Could this just simply mean that windows isn't reporting things accurately or is it tomcat? Any one have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Eugene

    One of the problems that show similar sysmtoms is data explosion, caused by poorly written rules. Rules can dramatically populate a database with many more values than what was loaded from the source system. To determine if this issue is affecting your application, first determine how many records are in the DCE (Entity) table and see how close that is to the number of records in the load file. You can run a query that will order all the records, and give you a count of how many records there are for each account. Look for accounts that have dramatically larger frequencies than others, and then trace them back to the source. Do the same for the DCN (Node) table.
    The results of this can be compared with your load file to determine if you are experiencing data explosion from rules.
    Are you getting any subcube warnings in the HSVEvent log?

  • The Firefox.exe process hogs 25% of my CPU resources even after I've closed it.

    On a relatively consistent basis, when I close the Firefox windows I have open, the firefox.exe process doesn't end. When I go to open Firefox again later, I get the error message that I can't open Firefox because it's already running or not responding. When I look in Task Manager (on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, BTW), the firefox.exe process is holding steady at 25% CPU usage along with whatever memory usage it already had consumed, even though the Tasks tab doesn't list Firefox as being open.
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week
    == I'm not exactly sure. It sort of just started on its own.

    Ed, this kind of issues are, unfortunately, more common and the we'd like. Thankfully, 99% of the cases are very easy to solve. However, you do need to diagnose what your exact problem is. Do this:
    #run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe-mode] to disable all extensions, themes and plugins. If this fixes your issues, be them with RAM or CPU usage, then you know it's a problem with plugins, themes or extensions. Proceed to number 2. If safe-mode doesn't fix the issues, then read bellow, after this list;
    #update all extensions, themes and plugins in your Firefox. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
    #disable all extensions, themes and plugins in your Firefox (not running safe-mode). Being certain that, as in safe-mode, the problems you're having have gone away, enable one plugin at a time. You should be certain that you WANT that plugin to be enabled, so keep your overall number of plugins as low as possible. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic plugin, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all plugins (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all.
    #enable one extension at a time. Again, be certain that you WANT that extension to be enabled, so keep your overall number of extensions as low as possible. Also, try the theme you want to have installed so see if that is what's causing the problem. When you encounter the problems, you know you've found a problematic extension/theme, so disable it for good. Keep enabling all your extensions (except problematic ones) until you've gone through them all;
    #you're done! You've fixed your problems with problematic add-ons. If you want to keep using those problematic add-ons, please contant their author for support.
    Ok, if disabling all extensions and plugins through safe-mode didn't work to bring Firefox's CPU and RAM usage to good levels, then you have different issue. The most likely scenario is that you have a third party software running on your computer that is messing with Firefox. Do as follows:
    #try reinstalling Firefox. No data will be lost. You can get the latest version for free at [http://www.getfirefox.com/ getfirefox.com]. If that doesn't fix the problem, proceed;
    #do a virus/malware check on your computer. If this doesn't fix it, proceed;
    #disable all software running in the background that you don't want to have running in the background (in windows, this is done by pressing WINDOWS+R in your keyboard, typing "msconfig" (without the commas) and pressing enter. Now, under the "Startup" tab, you can uncheck the software you don't want, and reboot your system for changes to take effect. If you're unsure of what software you want running, ask someone with more experience). If this doesn't fix your issues with Firefox, proceed;
    #check your firewall/antivirus/security suite for enabled functions/features that you don't want and/or may be conflicting with Firefox. You'll find that these features are most likely tied to Internet Security features, such as link scanners or URL checkers and the like. If you're not sure they are conflicting with Firefox, simply try to disable them to see whether or not that's true. As long as you don't browse the web with your antivirus completely off and your firewall completely turned off, there should be no problems. If this doesn't solve the issues, proceed to the following number;
    #check your operating system security options, mainly advanced options that are not configured by default. While it's very unlikely that this may be the cause of the problem (after all, it's the last item on the list), it's remotely possible. If this doesn't work, proceed to the following point;
    #update your modem/router software. There have been some reports that some modem/router software may cause Firefox and other browsers to loose performance and/or stability. If updating doesn't fix your issue, try other versions of the software, if possible. If you need support with this, contact your modem/router manufacturer. If this doesn't help, proceed;
    #clean up your OS registry, using appropriate software. Make sure you've followed my instructions correctly, but if this all doesn't work, [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles create a new Firefox profile] (this can be temporary, of course) and see if the issues persist. Report here the results, so we can help you further.

    Why are you programmatically opening an Excel sheet in C# instead of using the DataFlow task with an Excel input?
    Since your task is programmatically starting Excel via "new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application();", it is your responsibility to stop it.
    Please see "Quit":
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.office.interop.excel._application.quit(v=office.15).aspx

  • When closing Firefox (v:3.6.13), using the red "close" button, the firefox.exe process remaines at top of the "Windows Task Manager" window and continues to use the majority of CPU time.

    After an attempt to close the Mozilla Firefox page, on every occasion, the firefox.exe process is found at the top of the list when ordering the listed 'processes' by CPU time... even though the web page is gone.
    If an attempt is made to restart Mozilla, the system declares that the current Mozilla process should be closed.
    If the firefox.exe process is explicitly closed in the Task Manager, only then can Firefox be restarted.

    Does that also happen if you use File > Exit Firefox?
    See also "Hang at exit":

  • Acrobat X intermittently won't launch, multiple Acrobat.exe processes hanging in task manager

    Apologies if this is in the wrong community area - I was unsure where it belongs.
    This is an intermittent issue, but does happen several times a day.
    Regardless of what method is used to launch Acrobat (double-clicking a PDF, clicking the shortcut in the taskbar, selecting Acrobat from the start menu), often the application won't launch. Upon investigation, task manager shows multiple instances of Acrobat.exe, although the application is not running (see the image below). Ending all Acrobat.exe processes does allow Acrobat to launch.
    Any thoughts as to what might be causing this, as well as a more permanent fix? The workaround of constantly ending multiple processes is becoming cumbersome.
    We are running Acrobat X Pro in Windows 7. I also have several CC 2014 apps installed (as well as a couple of earlier versions required for plugin functionality).

    This happens all the time in my company with several installs of Acrobat.
    The only way to fix this for us is to end each process in Task Manager as you have pointed out.
    It is very time consuming in our workflow as we each operator deals with hundreds of PDFs daily, and has to do this End Process procedure several times a day.
    We have done several tests and nothing seems to stop this from happening.
