System tablespace is almost full
My database is 10gR2 in Solaris 10. My system tablespace is almost full 99%. What should i do?
This is a UNIX box, right?
/u02/oradata/PPRD/
run:
df -k /u02/oradata/PPRD/
Make sure you have enough space on your disk.
If you have, resize the file:
SQL> alter database datafile '/u02/oradata/PPRD/syst_PPRD_01.dbf' resize xxxxxMB;
It doesn't have to be in AUTOEXTEND.
You don't need to add another datafile, unless you ran out of space on the
disk, then add another database file on another filesystem if you have one.
Modern UNIX file systems still can be expanded, depends on your file system type.
$ chfs -a size=+100000 /u02/oradata/PPRD
Make sure you check all you were asked for.
If you don't have enough dree space, buy another disk.
Regards,
Richard.

System tablespace is 99% full
hello all,
I created a new Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.3.
i am checking the Oracle Enterprise manager, i saw the my system tablespace size is 700 M and it is 99% full.
Do i have to re size system tablespace datafile?
does that affect my database, do i have to restart it ?
99% full of system table space will affect my database performance?
How can I specify the best size of my system tablespace?
Regards,That does seem to be the size system tablespace you get with a new db. After a couple of years, mine is still that size, though it appears something has come and gone, but I don't really care.
Recent versions separate out various things into the sysaux tablespace. You do have to watch out that it doesn't start growing. dbconsole has an interesting tablespace map (and there are command lines ways also) to see what segments are in tablespaces. Don't worry too much about any apparent "fragmentation" (and I use that word loosely, and probably shouldn't) you see in the mapping of segments, but it is useful to be aware [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/create004.htm#i1011308]what is in sysaux and why it might start growing. Autoextend is perfectly fine for these tablespaces.
Edit: Auditing is special, and may cause the system tablespace to grow under certain circumstances.

My rollback tablespace is almost full. what can I do ?.
My rollback tabelspace is near to full. If I select unlimited tablespace option, will this solve my problem ? OR I need to add an additional rollback tabelspace.
Is anybody describe what is the difference in between Unlimited option in tablespace or by adding new tablespace.Hi,
Are you getting any errors? If you just want to increase the space in the tablespace, you can add a datafile, but i am not sure that is what you are looking for.
If you are on 9i, check out the undo features.

btw, what is oracle version that you are using?

iM 'events' and 'project' took up a lot of room, I need to relocate the contents of the two folders to an external HD to make rooms for the upcoming projects.
1. Do I simply copy the two folders, paste them in the external HD, then delete the contents in the original folders on the system HD? Or there is another proper way to do this.
2. If one day I need to rework on a particular iM project, do I simply copy the relevant files from the external HD and paste them back in the corresponding folder of the system HD? Will the project file be able to build the link with the event files again?
2a, Can I leave the 'event' file in the external HD and just copy the project file back to iM? Or I can work with both the 'event' file and 'project' in the external HD, how?You will need an external drive that is formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). A FAT32 drive will not work.
If you have already created projects. You must do the move from within iMovie, so you do not break the links between projects and events.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. In your Event Library List, you should see an icon for your external drive.
While holding the COMMAND key down, drag and drop the Event icons in the Event Library List onto the icon for the external disk. (NOTE: If you do this in the Finder, it will break your projects)
Once you have all the events on the external drive, test a project or two to make sure it still works.
Now you can do the same with your projects. Hold down the command key while dragging your project icon in the Project Library List to the icon for the external drive in the Project Library List.
As a final step, you can click on the project and select FILE/Consolidate Media. This will place any additional files such as photos or music that is referenced in the project on the hard disk as well. -

System tablespace 92% full
Oracle 9.2.0.1
Linux 7.3
I am on a test machine.
The system tablespace is 92%full.Is it an appropriate value?
What should be the size of the system tablespace?
I checked in DBA_USERS,all users have users tablespace ,few system users have system tablespace as there default tablespace. There is a separate temp tablespace for temporary segments.few system users have system tablespace as there default tablespacei think the OP mentioned users are the one that are created during the creation of database
Once the user has been assigned a tablesapce ..whatever he creates after that by default will be created under the default tablesapce unless it is redirected to use a different tbs provided he has the privilge on that -
Optimal size of System - Tablespace
What is the optimal size for the system-tablespace with all option (with JVM and more) with the ORACLE Version 8.1.7 or 9i ?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The options you mentioned will have some affect on the size, only because they will add more OBJECTS to the database. The key drivers for how to size SYSTEM are the number of objects and users you anticipate in your database, and the number of database structures (tablespaces, files, logs, etc). The dictionary tables in the SYSTEM tablespace exist to maintain information on everything in the database, and are updated automatically as changes are made to database objects or structures. I usually recommend 200M as a safe starting value unless you know you will be creating a lot of objects, go with 250-300M.
A little story. A while back, I was forced (while protesting quite loudly) to create private synonyms for every table in the database for every user in the database. I warned the people who ordered this that we might encounter problems in SYSTEM, (and in the shared pool) because the total number of OBJECTS (synonyms) being added totalled well over 1 million. As predicted, the system tablespace could not handle the load, and I had to add one new file to SYSTEM, and then another on a DIFFERENT storage volume (no space left on original). When this was done, our SYSTEM tablespace was almost 600M. (The OBJ$ table swelled up like a balloon). When the geniuses who forced me to do this realized it was a really bad idea, they told me to drop the synonyms. But we were left with 3 SYSTEM datafiles when we only needed one (you can't drop them). -
I have a white Macbook, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of memory, Mac OS X, version 10.5.8, purchased in 2008. My Mac keeps warning me that my startup disk is almost full, and indeed Activity Monitor shows that my disk usage has minimal free space (2.31 GB). However, the System Memory tab shows that half my space is free.
Does the discrepancy mean that there is lots of space left on my Mac? If not, how can I identify if some sort of error is filling up my memory? Right now, I have a lot of music and documents stored on my laptop, but nothing else, and I would like to be sure it's those two things that are filling up the space.
What is the recommended method for adding more memory to my Mac, if nothing else? There are two different types of memory in your Mac. There is system memory, more commonly referred to as RAM, and there is disk space. RAM is where the Mac works on data. Disk space is where data is stored for long term storage.
You are in serious danger of causing your Mac to die completely by running it with so little free space on your system drive. It is imperative that you start either deleting or move data off the disk drive. You should have 8 to 10 time as much free space at least at all times for OS X to run will.
A tool that can with cleaning up your disk drive is OmniDiskSweeper. It will tell you the files and fol,der that are using the most space. That will give you good candidates for deletion or movement.

System data file is almost full around 17G
Hi,
I have put audit in my database. So, because of the more data in sys.aud$ table my system data file almost reached 17g..
can i reduce size of the system data file?
what is the solution? I am using 10g release 2.
Thanks in advance.RMAN is a Physical Backup-Restore method. It will restore and recreate the datafiles to be the same on-disk size as they were at the time of the backup.
Export-DropDatabase-CreateEmptyDatabase-Import is used to "shrink" databases if there is a lot of wasted space.
Normally for non-SYSTEM tablespaces, it is simpler to create a new tablespace and move data into the new tablespace and then drop the older tablespace so as to not have to use Export-Drop-Create-Import.
However, you cannot use this method for SYSTEM so you'd have to Export-Drop-Create-Import as the SYSTEM tablespace is your issue.
Make sure that you have practiced this method and verifed that there are no issues with database accounts, schemas, privileges, database links, indexes, datatypes, storedprocedures etc after you import into a test database before you try this on production.

Hi,
I am new to Oracle database. Currently I am using Oracle 10g version 10.2.0.4. I noticed that the SYSTEM tablespace is 100%, may I know what's the impact to the database server? Will it slow down all the transactions to process?
Thanks.Your car won't run fast or slow if your gas tank is completely full or half full! The tablespace being full or not completely full won't decide the performance of the database. Since the tablespace is System tablespace which is supposed to store the data dictionary, it being full may hinder the working of the database since there is no more space left the dictionary. But if you would purely do queries without doing any changes at all, those queries performance won't be determined from the tablespace, whichever it may be, being full or not being full.
That said, this is a rather wrong criteria to check the performance. If you want to check performance, first take a feedback from the users and than get a report using Statspack or AWR( if you have license for it) and see what does the report says. If you find anything wrong in it than only imagine it as an issue and try to fix it.

HardDisk almost full suddenly on a Desktop 3000 S200 Vista
Would someone be kind enough to give me a hand? My Desktop is Lenovo 3000 S200 (9684-A24)
running on a Win Vista.
The system was purchased 5 months ago. I haven't kept many files or install much software. But the hard disk, originally having a 320GB in memory, is almost full now. It shows that there's 293GB being utilized on the SW_Preload(C : ).
It seems that the system is still running OK even though the speed is no quite satisfactory. I'm afraid I'll facing problem in the near future.
Please give me some advice if anyone has got the experience & fix it before. Thanks a lot in advance!!hello the resuce and recovery must have made base backups in ur system also try disabling volume shadow copy only if you dont require it
i would sujjest a nift utility like tune up utilities 2008 believe me it works great and saved 4 gb on my ultimate

I am a volunteer here. I don't work for Lenovo -
I have an iMac 5.1 with Mac OSX 10.6.8 and 2 GB memory and an L2 cache of 4 GB. lately I have been receiving error messages of " start up disk almost full; please delete files." is the start up disk the same thing as the hard drive? I opened the hard drive and from the column on the left of the menu I've selected "search for" and under that " all images" then "all documents" I've deleted a few files from each. Are documents and images that I have deleted from here also deleted from the folders on my desktop?
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Delete any other mail in your Junk folders. Also, look through your Sent Mail to see if there is anything that can be deleted.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
Good Luck! -

Forget the iTunes crash for the time being. Receiving this message is serious, and you need to take action. While the notion that Mac OS X needs 10% or 15% or whatever percentage of your hard disk free is an urban legend, it is nevertheless true that it does need free space; how much depends on your machine and what you do with it. At the very basic level, you should aim to have no less than ~5GB free at all times. See
<http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/freeingspace.html>
for tips on reclaiming disk space. -
I have now received an E Mail from iCloud Support that my storage space is almost full. The first time I got the E Mail, I scheduled a call with Apple Support to confirm that the E Mail was wrong. It says I have 0.2 GB of free space when I in fact have almost 2.0 GB of free space. Apple confirmed this.
Now the E Mail came again and I assume it will come more times until Apple realizes it has some sort of error generating this E Mail.
It would be nice if Apple allowed for E Mail support or at least responses to their messages sent to users. Perhaps posting this will help in that Apple might see it and fix the problem.
Dear Name,
Your iCloud storage is almost full. You are currently using 4.8 GB of 5 GB total storage.
Your iCloud storage is used for iCloud Mail and to automatically back up the most important data on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch — your photos and videos, device settings, app data, messages, and more.
iCloud Drive and iCloud-enabled apps, like Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, also use iCloud storage to automatically keep your files up-to-date across your devices.
Learn more about iCloud Drive >
To continue using these iCloud features without interruption, you can upgrade your storage plan from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
iOS 8:
1)
Go to Settings and tap iCloud.
2)
Tap Storage.
3)
Tap Buy More Storage.
OS X:
1)
Go to System Preferences and click iCloud.
2)
Click Manage.
3)
Click Buy More Storage.
Or you can reduce the amount of iCloud storage you’re using. Learn how to manage your iCloud storage >
Important: If you exceed your storage plan, your devices will stop backing up to iCloud. iCloud Drive and iCloud-enabled apps will no longer update across your devices, and you will not be able to send or receive messages with your iCloud email address.

<Email Edited by Host>Here's a tip: Part of what I do is photography, so I normally treat my iPhone as another camera. So, what I do is after I have finished taking some shots/videos with it, I download them to my computer (in my case, via Aperture). For everyone else, on the Mac there is the free Image Capture app, or the iPhoto app (which, if you have the latest version of Lion, it isn't built in there, so you would have to download it from the App Store for a fee).
I have made it a habit to use this method whenever I finish taking pictures at the end of a day (but that's just me). Also, keep in mind that the videos that you take on your iPhone can take up a lot of space very quickly (for instance, one minute of 720p HD video recorded on the iPhone takes up over 300 MB of space!), so you would need to keep that in mind when shooting videos. SO, to answer your questions above:
1) Right.
2) No, because it is only a backup, not the Camera Roll itself.
3) You should not be worried about deleting the iCloud backup of the iPhone Camera Roll. What would happen (in terms of the method) is that you first would download them to iPhoto first, then delete the images from your Camera Roll. This then would free up your iCloud storage space. Lastly, placing them in your iPhoto app will not tell your backup on your phone to delete them. When you delete the images from your camera roll, your "backup" will be smaller in size than it was beforehand.... Hopefully that made sense. -
Hi. I've had a Blackberry Z30, current OS 10.2.1.3062, since late April 2014. In the last couple of days I've had notifications about the "Device Storage Almost Full".
I've done a complete security wipe to try to resolve this issue (as advised on another forum). I've tried a Factory reset (as advised on another forum - a Google search reveals lots of fellow BB owners with an identical issue, but so far no actual explanations as to what's happening, or solutions that work for me!). I have NO documents, videos, music, or any other downloaded files saved on my phone, and minimal apps too. The largest app is The Sims FreePlay - 785.4, and total storage listed for apps is 1.84Gb
Each time, I reinstall fewer and fewer apps, yet over an hour or more, I can actually look at the Device Monitor periodically and watch the Storage being filled up with more and more 'System' files, whatever these may be! If I look at the Device Monitor, Memory, System, it shows that during the night, when I am in 'Bedside Mode' in the last two days it has downloaded 9.5Gb of data - this drops to almost nothing during the day when I'm actually USING the phone. However, this evening, I recorded the following stats, with no corresponding download of data over wi-fi during the same period, so I'm not sure if these two things are actually related!
The stats were:
18:28 - Just backed up the phone, not being actively used by me, Wi-fi switched off for test purposes, mobile network still connected
Storage showed at 18:28: System - 1.77Gb, Apps - 1.83Gb, User - 135Mb, Free - 9.45Gb
18:31 - Wi-fi turned on, played Sims FreePlay for 30 minutes
19:04 - Device Monitor checked
Storage showed at 19:04: System - 3.58Gb
19:04-19:24 - Switched to Bedside Mode for test purposes
Storage showed at 19:24: System - 8.63Gb
19:25-19:30 - Phone not being actively used
Storage showed at 19:30: System - 9.79Gb
19:31 - Received notification "Device storage almost full"
Storage showed: System - 10.12Gb
Currently at System 10.97Gb, User - 134Mb, Apps - 1.84Gb, Free 255Mb
This seems to be the maximum amount of space System can take up. Once it reaches this level, it remains static and does not increase any more. If I'm lucky, some of the random things I've been trying manage to actually clear it (or it appears so - may just be coincidence!), until the next time. When it starts piling on the pounds faster than a Weight Watcher at an all you can eat buffet (i.e. ME !)
I've owned SimsFreePlay for several months and my children, as well as myself, have been using it regularly. This week is the first time I've seen this issue, so I'm not sure if the game can be blamed!
Sometimes, I can do a restart by holding the power button and it clears out the excess System data, but not always (more often doesn't help than does). Once, I managed to clear out the excess by 'Resetting Sync Relationships' in BBLink (although that could just have been coincidental as it hasn't worked any time since!). I've tried 'rebooting' through holding down the higher and lower volume buttons simultaneously, as someone advised someone else on another forum when I Googled the issue.
I've tried browsing the folders and files via the USB connection to the PC to clear out any other rogue data that may be filling it up. I have no Android apps side-loaded since the first security wipe. Once, I actually did nothing (was just poised, about to do another reluctant wipe and restore of the OS, so was glad I saved myself the bother!) and it cleared itself out spontaneously!
Would dearly LOVE it if someone with more nous than myself can point me in a direction I haven't yet tried please The phone, once it reaches it's maximum bloat, becomes completely unusable - hub can't download even a single email or text, or even display ones I have stored there. Many of the apps can't even start and sometimes even Device Monitor is unable to load too so I can see what's going on!! I'm well and truly stuck for ideas now, so thank you for any suggestions you may have that might helpArletteJ wrote:

I'm well and truly stuck for ideas now, so thank you for any suggestions you may have that might help
Hello and thanks for your detailed iinfo.
So...let me summarize this: during the day, under normal use (WiFi OFF and data service ON) the phone`s storage is staying the same. Then you switch WiFi ON and start playing the SIM game and according to your time line, in aprox 60 min, the phone runs out of storage....
Have you tryied to take a look at your "Device Monitor" > "Storage" before the phone becomes unusable, just to see what`s eating up your storage space?
