System Time is Incorrect After Waking From Hibernation

If my MBA runs out of battery when its asleep, after coming back to life, the system time is wrong. The time is correct when it comes back from normal sleep.

Hi
Same here. On PC boards the clock is usually buffered by a small battery.
Maybe there is no battery in the MBA. But the clock is synchronized over the internet by asking a time server. So you dont need to do it manually

  • Help! iPod displays restore message after waking from hibernation

For the past week, every time I wake my fifth generation iPod from hibernation, I get a message telling me to connect my iPod to a computer to restore it. This message will disappear after a minute or so and the screen will go dark. If I press a button after this happens, the iPod will go thru the reset process (apple logo appears and it reboots itself). After this it is fine until I leave it long enough for it to go into hibernation again, in which case the whole process starts over. I've been afraid to connect it to my computer for fear I'm going to lose all my music. Has this happened to anybody? Any suggestions?

Yea, I could...but I want to avoid that if at all possible. The weird thing is that it works fine once that message disappears from the screen. I don't know if i should just ignore since it still plays all my music..or else restore it.

  • System clock fails to update after waking from sleep

I've noticed that my new PowerMac G5 Dual-Core 2GHz (running Mac OS X 10.4.3) doesn't update its system clock to the current time after waking from sleep.
When I put it to sleep and then wake it some time later, the Clock in the upper right-hand corner doesn't update to the current time. It still ticks on (second for second) but remains out of sync.
Opening the Date & Time preferences pane will restore the time to the correct setting.
This problem only occurs with sleep and then wake-from-sleep. It doesn't happen when I shut down the machine and then restart it.
Does anybody know if I've got a malfunctioning machine? It's only 1 day old...
Or better still, how do I solve this problem?
    PowerMac G5 Dual-Core 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

No, my Mac is not having trouble contacting the time server. I checked the console log and found no messages related to this.
I am on a broadband always-on connection (recently switched from DSL to cable modem, and the problem occurred under both connections). However, my original post states that the computer loses time only when it is asleep, and I didn't think that my computer could contact the time server when it is asleep. It also loses time when it is off, which I neglected to mention previously. Am I mistaken in thinking that the computer communicates over the network only when it is awake? Since it keeps accurate time when awake (once I've reset it by opening the Date & Time control panel), it seems to me like it IS communicating with the time server without issue.
[And I apologize for misinterpreting your question as a suggestion. I was trying to be polite by thanking you for taking an interest in my issue. I'll watch my semantics more carefully next time.]
    Cheers,
    Katy

  • Display will not sleep any more after waking from sleep

My Macbook has recently started misbehaving after waking from sleep. Started putting the entire MB to sleep each night by closing the lid. When I wake it in the morning everything seems normal, no error messages. However from that point forward the display will not dim or sleep. I've tried re-applying my settings in System Preferences -> Energy Saver. Pretty much the only fix has been to reboot, which is annoying and Windows-like.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have "fast sleep" enabled (aka hibernation mode disabled) but I've had that since I bought my MB with 10.5.1 on it. So I don't think it's related. In fact I changed to the default Energy Saver profile to see if that fixed the problem (it didn't), which re-enabled hibernation mode and I then had to re-disable hibernation.
I want to say this started happening after the 10.5.4 update, but that may have been a coincidence as to when I started sleeping it each night... I don't exactly remember.
I downloaded Cocktail to run all the cron jobs, etc, that don't get run when sleeping at night, and that didn't help either.
Any suggestions? Anyone else ever see this? Seeing it now?
    Thanks!

This is still an issue for me.
I sleep my Macbook every night by closing the lid. After doing this a few times, the display either stops sleeping, or stops locking. I have the lock menu in the Apple menu bar, and even selecting "Lock screen" will not work.
Sometimes a reboot fixes it, sometimes I have to reset the SMC.
    Any info out there?

  • Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf

Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf
""This above link (thread:834599) is from a case back in 2011 that claims to solve this problem, but it does not solve this problem. I think that customer only cared about having continuous page numbering, not discrete page numbering per sheet.
    ========================
I still have this issue in Acrobat XI and MS Office Professional Plus 2010. I keep upgrading to no avail. This regression has resulted in a huge time drain for me. If you fixed it, please explain how I can get my hands on the resolution.
Previous versions of Excel and Adobe Acrobat enabled flexibility around the "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) token, depending on context and usage. The "# of pages" token could represent EITHER the number of pages in the workbook OR the number of pages in the tab/sheet, depending on how you generated the PDF:
You could select "Selected Sheets" and then select all or some of the individual sheets in the workbook, and the PDF would honor the discrete numbering of each of the sheets, so the first page of each sheet was p1 and the "# of pages" was the number of pages in the sheet; not the number of pages in the workbook; or
You could select "Entire Workbook" and the PDF would honor continuous page numbers across all sheets, as a single document.
Now, it only honors the total number of pages in the workbook, regardless of the method you use to publish to PDF: saving as PDF, printing to PDF, using "createPDF" from Acrobat plugin to Excel's menu ribbon; selecting all sheets, some sheets, or Entire Workbook; automatic First page number or "1" under Page Setup > Page> First page number. (This last option, btw, does restart every sheet at p1, but it hardly makes sense if the total number of pages is still the total number in the workbook instead of the number in the sheet.)
I spent a lot of time trying each which way that the blog posts recommended and have tried this on multiple versions of Excel and Acrobat now.
NONE of these time-consuming experiments gave me what I wanted. They all insist that "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) is the total number of pages in the workbook or the total number of pages in the selected sheets combined.
The numbering are correct in Excel Page Layout.
The same issue happens when using LibreOffice calc. (Although, I never tested with Libre Office before, so I don't know that it ever worked).
The workaround now is to create PDF for each spreadsheet one at a time, and then compile them using the Acrobat combine/binder feature. All alternatives are extremely time consuming and tedious. It used to be automatic. This is a major regression that has gone untreated for over a year now, maybe two years.
My task takes infinitely more time to complete than it did with previous versions of Acrobat. That means that days are added to my project, when the functionality used to enable a quick pdf generation that was ready for review, now I have to do this very manual time-consuming set of steps to generate a draft. As the project has grown and more tabs are added, my pdf-generation task takes that much longer. We require lots of drafts. It used to be easy and fast. Now it is hard and time-consuming.
In my opinion, the problem is not Excel; it is Acrobat because it was introduced with an upgrade in Acrobat, not an upgrade in Excel. The problem was introduced in Acrobat 9 or 10. Please provide a patch or add-on or something.

If you are setting up the page numbers in Excel, the resulting PDF would display the the page numbers created in Excel. On Excel 2010 support page, (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/insert-and-remove-page-numbers-on-worksheets- HA010342619.aspx#BM2) is stated the following "tip" which indicates by default Excel 2010 starts numbering each tab with 1. Exel's workaround tip is below -
Set a different number for the starting page
Tip   To number all of the worksheet pages in a workbook sequentially, first add page numbers to all worksheets in a workbook, and then use the following procedure to begin the page number for each worksheet with the appropriate number. For example, if your workbook contains two worksheets that with both be printed as two pages, you would use this procedure to begin the page numbering for the second worksheet with the number 3.
On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Page Setup.
On the Page tab, in the First page number box, type the number that you want to use for the first page.
Tip   To use the default numbering system, type Auto in the First page number box.
Also helpful in the same section is the note on viewing page numbers. To see if the page numbering dilemma originates in Excel make sure you are using the Page Layout View see below:
    Hide All
If you want numbers shown on pages when you print a worksheet  you can insert page numbers in the headers or footers of the worksheet pages. Page numbers that you insert are not displayed on the worksheet in Normal view — they are shown only in Page Layout view and on the printed pages.
Overall it may be easier not to create the page numbers in Excel but instead create then in Acrobat using the Headers and Footers option in Acrobat.  I hope this helps - it sounds like a frustrating issue you are experiencing.

  • After upgrading to Tiger, freeze after waking from sleep on PM G4

My experience with Tiger in the past week as not been great. The reason I upgraded was to get iSync 2.1, so that my Moto E815 phone could be sync'd with my OSX AddresBook and iCal. This wasn't possible with the latest version of Panther.
So, I upgraded to Tiger 10.4.3, and now my G4 freezes immediately after waking from sleep. After pressing the 'return' key to wake the computer, the G4 sends a signal to wake the monitor, but on top of the screen saver is a black text box which states there was a problem I must press (and hold) the power button to restart the Mac. It's written in four languages.
When I installed Tiger, I used the 'archive' option.
My computer is a bit of a FrankenMac: Originally a G4/350 with AGP, upgraded with a Sonnet 1GHz G4 processor card, 1.12GB RAM, a 160GB HDD, an nVidia GeForce3 64MB AGP video card, Samsung DVD/CR-RW drive (Patchburn3) and a Belkin PCI card with 2 additional Firewire ports and 3 additional USB 2.0 ports. When I performed the upgrade, I had the keyboard and mouse plugged into the case USB 1.1 ports, a Logitech Notebook Pro USB camera plugged into the other case USB 1.1 port, and a D-Link BT120 USB->BT adapter plugged into one of the three USB 2.0 ports on the Belkin PCI card.
When I check the Console logs after the rebooting, I see a kernal panic in the panic.log. Apple has received this a number of times from me in the past week as I keep sending them 'talkback' logs after the fact.
I also see an error in the system.log which may reveal what is going on:

I suspect the problem where the USB devices are started, because I had that Bluetooth adapter plugged in at the time of the upgrade. I'm speaking of the lines in the log which start with 'USBF'. The keyboard and mouse are useless when the black screen shows up after waking from sleep.
I've tried some of the suggestions I've found for the iBook 'wake from sleep' postings on macfixit.com and here - resetting NVRAM and removing a few of the .plist files. This didn't seem to help.
I would greatly appreciate help in resolving this issue. I've been a Mac owner since the original Macintosh (it's still in my house) and am frustrated that this is the first problem I've encountered.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks. In fact I had bought a new keyboard and mouse (Macally) and sure enough, if I unplug it before it reboots, the CD drive door stays closed and I can boot from a CD! I did not try any of the other stuff. Is there any way to get it to stop this? Why does a USB peripheral cause the CD to eject anyway? Would love to know!

  • System time is incorrect

I just recently installed Arch Linux i686.  I thought I got the time set correctly when I first installed Arch, but now I notice that the system time is incorrect.  I live in Tucson, Arizona.  Arizona (execpt for the Navajo Indian reservation) is on MST (GMT-7) year round, no DST.  I dual boot this machine to both Windows and Linux, so the hardware clock is set to local time.  When I boot to Windows, the correct time is displayed.  in /etc/rc.conf, I have
    HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
    TIMEZONE="Ameria/Phoenix"
When I boot Arch, and type the date command, it displays localtime - 7 hours.  Also, if a create a new file and do a "ls -l" command, the timestamp on the file is localtime - 7 hours.  It appears that Arch thinks the hardwareclock is set to UTC, even though I have HARDWARECLOCK="localtime" specified.
    How can I fix this?
(I did a pacman update a week ago and it looked like it installed a new kernel.  Maybe this is when the incorrect system time started.  Not sure.)
    Charles Bailey

The Arch boot sequence, from the wiki page, http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Boot:
    1  Grub or Lilo
2  Kernel and memory management functions loaded into memory
3  init called - follows instructions from /etc/inittab
    4  /etc/rc.sysinit is called.
Early in rc.sysint , from my x86-64 Arch on a dual AMD cpu, the realtime-clock driver is loaded. In my case, it's rtc-cmos. Bugs have been reported in various places about this driver. I don't know which version of the driver, or which kernels might be affected. The driver is for PC-style computers; without it ACPI would not function.
Then, the hwclock may be adjusted for system drift depending on use of localtime or UTC.
After the local filesystems are mounted, the hwclock may be adjusted again.
You could add lines to rc.sysinit to echo the hwclock time to the screen for the boot sequence using  "/sbin/hwclock -r"  to see which adjustment instance is causing the errors and then take steps to correct the adjustment or prevent the adjustment from occurring.
    Edited for clarity and typos.

  • Black screen after waking from sleep mode - Compaq Presario CQ5110F

My mother's computer has been having the problem listed in the subject -- after waking from sleep mode, the monitor just stays black, and won't come back. After trying everything I could find online, I eventually found the bios update which claims to fix the exact issue. The problem is that I guess my mother had opted to upgrade to Windows 7, while the bios update seems to only work for Windows Vista, as I get the following error message: "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been canceleld. (9998)." I've tried running the update in Vista compatibility mode, with no luck. I've tried using a different monitor, I've updated all the drivers, Windows Updates are all current, I've cleared CMOS. Any idea on how to fix this? It's very recent; only for about the past 2 weeks has this been happening, while we've had the computer for over 3 years. It's quite a waste of energy to keep it on all day.

    Hello liltwix,
When taking your computer out of safe mode the screen just remains black, is that correct? I will try to help you with this issue.
I understand you upgraded from Vista to 7, was that when the issue started or has the computer had windows 7 installed for some time before this problem started?
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks

  • SMB shares die after waking from sleep mode

When my Macbook is freshly booted, I can access the SMB shares on my linux server just fine. The fun starts when the computer is put to sleep and then awakened. About 50% of the time, the shares on my server are inaccessible after waking from sleep. When I click on the server in the Finder, it just says it's connecting and sits there. Not only are the shares inaccessible, but the server cannot be "ejected" (Item in use). Plus, the system cannot be rebooted nicely. It just hangs with the spinning wheel until I ctrlcommandreset the thing. Other services on the server remain accessible from the Macbook after samba dies (iTunes library, FTP). Occasionally, the shares will come to life if I sleep/wake the computer again, but that is rare.
Tiger worked fine with the same server, it wasn't until the 10.5 upgrade that I began having trouble. I called Apple tech support about the issue, and waited 2 weeks for them to tell me to "install Bonjour on the server." I have formatted and reinstalled Leopard more times than I care to count, but the problem always remains. I've been dealing with this for almost a YEAR now and am totally desperate for a solution. Has anybody ever heard of this before?? The server is running Clarkconnect (Centos derivative).

    Hi Gary,
This behavior is not a Safari issue but system related.
Close all applications an run in utilities> disc repair permissions.
After you done reboot an see what happens when your Mac gets to sleep mode again. This time don't open any applications to test it. Just leave it showing your desktop.
Post back with the results ...

  • Mission control inactive after waking from sleep

Having an intermittant issue where the mission control functions are no longer working after waking from sleep.  I can't swipe between desktops, or activate mission control by clicking on the dock icon.  The only way to get it back is to use the Activity Monitor to force quick the dock and have it re-launch.  Then everything is fine.  Doesn't happen all the time on sleep.

    Did it happen each time?
As I know, if you press at touch panel while system booting.
It maybe influence touchpanel initial. ->It will cause touchpanel no function when you enter system.

  • Losing WiFi connection after waking from sleep

I've iMac 27 in. with recently upgraded OS X Lion to 10.7.4. After this was done the problems strated with connecting to Wi-Fi through my Time Capsule (2TB, 802.11n 4th Gen) after waking from sleep. Everything works fine when iMac is started after shutdown. My internet router is connected through ethernet cable to Time Capsule and iMac is using Wi-Fi connection with Time Capsule.
I've tried to install iMac Wi-Fi update v1.0 but it I cann't do it because my OS X is 10.7.4 and the update installer is stopping the installation after the check of my OS version.
Could anybody help to solve this problem, please?

    but when the
computer goes to sleep and is then awakened, there
are no wireless networks listed in chooser... like
there are no wireless networks available...
    Hi greaser5!
That is definitely NOT typical operation. Yes, your Core Duo iMac must restart after sleep, but It should reconnect to a working network instantaneously (less than a second), although it will probably take longer than that for your iMac to fully restart after sleep and actually be able to use the network.
Delete all prior wireless configurations that you have saved on the "Location:" selector of the Network panel of System Preferences. On the Network>AirPort>AirPort panel also delete all your preferred wireless networks. Click the "Apply Now" button.
Restart your Mac. Turn on AirPort. Use the Network panel's "Assist me..." button and the following blue "Assistant..." button to configure a fresh wireless connection to your working wireless network. This will be fresh and total, just as you did when your iMac was new. There is no need to give your network either a new name or a new password, as the old ones will work just fine in the new configuration, since as you know, the current network is working fine, the iMac simply can no longer connect to it correctly using its current configuration.
I have not been able to test the above on a Core 2 Duo, so do not know first hand if it will make any difference on those iMacs, but that or some similar fiddling should resolve the issue.

  • Explorer.exe consuming 100% CPU after resuming from hibernation

    Hello,
For the last months, I repeatedly have the problem that sometimes (every 2nd or 3rd time) after resuming from hibernation, in a few cases also after disconnecting from the Internet, one or more instances of explorer.exe are consuming 100% CPU, but never
    the shell instance.
I tried figuring out what it was doing, but I was unsuccessful so far.
Here is a stack of the thread which consumed most of the CPU:

I you have any clue what might be going, I would be very happy to hear it. It's really annoying, as I have to kill explorer.exe and thereby close all my folder windows when this happens.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    David Trapp

    Hello,
thanks for having a look. However, I already ran SFC before posting on this forum (as part of my own investigation) and it came back clean. RescueTime (a time tracking tool) is probably not the culprit because it happened also several times in the past without
RescueTime being running (that was because I had accidentally removed it from autorun at that time).
Unfortunately, I can't follow your "invalid date" explanation. I don't think an "invalid date" is anywhere involved; in fact, the method in question is called "_TreeInvalidateItemInfo" and not "_TreeInvalidDateItemInfo"
(note that there is only one "d"), so I assume its job is just to invalidate (and in turn, refresh) the cached information about nodes in the left pane's folder tree of the explorer window(s) - since the folder tree is the only NamespaceTreeControl
(whose corresponding class name is CNscTree) in explorer folder view windows. As I see it, something is causing explorer to repeatedly refresh the folder tree data, but I am stuck at finding out what exactly.
    Best regards,
    David Trapp
EDIT: Disassembling ExplorerFrame!CNscTree::_TreeInvalidateItemInfo confirms that, because it seems to call TreeView_SetItem for a tree node and its parent (possibly with all fields set to *_CALLBACK), and CNscTree::_UpdateItemDisplayInfo
    for the parent node.
EDIT2: I'd love to dig more into the trace, however I am hitting a wall at function names/addresses. Everywhere where I would expect a function name/address (such as the "by stack" views), I only see question marks instead. What
    could be the reason?

  • T400 Stuck at 800MHz after resume from Hibernation

This evening, my T400's processor speed was stuck at 800MHz after resuming from hibernation. Machine was plugged in. Power manager processor speed settings were not set to lowest performance. Even running processes that put the CPU at 100%, the machine stayed clocked at 800MHz. All drivers, BIOS, etc. are updated to the most recent version.
Eventually, I shut down the machine, and then started it back up. Everything was fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions to prevent this from happening again?

Hello everyone, I observed a new correlation: last time when my touchpad was recognized as "PS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad" (instead of "PS/2 Generic Mouse") happend *after resuming from hibernation*, and also with the concomitant phenomenon of having no sound after resuming. (Sorry for the oversophisticated language, I have just had a philosophy of mind exam ) After this I hibernated the laptop again and resumed, and I *had* sound, but had the touchpad recognized as "PS/2 Generic Mouse", so it seems that I am lucky with the touchpad just when I am unlucky with sound. And, as far as I remember, the earlier occasions when I was lucky with the touchpad were also after resuming from hibernation. So it seems that something else than psmouse sometimes fails to restart after the hibernation, and this is what causes psmouse to work as expected! I am not an expert in kernel, so could someone help me, what to look for? An obvious guess would be sound-related modules, but it would be really weird if they had anything to do with the touchpad, so for now I don't start to learn how sound is handled in Linux (it looks like a lot to learn...)

  • External Hard Drive Fail After Waking from Sleep

    Hi,
I've been having this issue for over a year (since upgrading to Lion, and now still persists after upgrading to Mountain Lion), and I haven't been able to find the exact answer I need after searching through the posts here, and on the internet.
I have a 2011 MBP, and after upgrading to Lion last year, I've noticed that my WD external hard drive for the Mac has issues to be recognized after the laptop wakes from sleep. The drive icons are still there on the desktop, and all the files are listed. However, I cannot open any of the files, and Time Machine backup automatically fails.I am able to eject the drives by dragging the icons into the trash can. However, nothing happens if I simply unplug the fire wire 800 cable and re-plug it into the computer after ejecting the drives. I need to reset the external drive by unplugging both the fire wire cable and the power supply, and replug everything.
Aside from being a hampering process after waking from sleep, this is also very stressful on the drive itself, so I would like to fix this. Does anyone know the issue behind this or have a solution? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for this, and apologies for delay in replying...in between seeing your post I backed up the ext hdd to another mac and used the disc utility to erase and repair and then re mounted the ext hdd. OK.  I have then tested the ext hdd being recognised when waking from sleep mode a few times and everything appears to be fine. If this doesn't work (long term) I will follow the instructions as you have suggested....
I now have a new problem with my HP printer (Photosmart Plus) which is not being recognised by a new wireless router..Ok whilst the router is switch on and I have reconfigured the printer..but when the router is switched off overnight and then switched back on...I get a 'printer is not connected' message and have to go through the re configure routine all over. I am minded to think this is a router problem as the same issue is happening to my wifes Mac Book Pro (which is only a few weeks old)...any suggestions..

  • Network connection after waking from sleep

Hi... More or less any time I allow my MacBook Pro to go to sleep, when I wake it up I am nearly always disconnected from my Airport connection (I connect to a NetGear wireless router via my internal Airport card). I go up to the menu bar and click on the now grey airport icon and I do still see my network in the list of available networks. I click on it, after several seconds a message comes up that says "there was an error joining the Airport network "network name""... But I then simply click on OK (rather than Try Again, I've learned that by trial and error) and the network reconnects just fine... Then when I let the machine sleep again at some later time, I do that all again... Any suggestions of what might be going on??? I do have "Use Interference Robustness" turned on (not that I know why exactly) but I've also had it off before and that seems not to matter... Any suggestions??? thanks... bob..
    FW800 G4 dual 1.25 Ghz and 17 inch MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have "join preferred networks" selected, and mine os the only one on the list, and it still does not connect after waking from sleep. It is WEP security, not WPA2. I checked out the following article, but it was of no help:
