System Time lost if battery dies

Greetings.
I purchased a Satellite C55D-B5219 in September 2014.  It's been running fine except for one issue. The device has fully drained maybe 3 or 4 times in past four months.  Each of those times when I charge it back up for use as soon as I boot it the device comes up to the Setup Utility for me to re-enter the system time.
I've never seen this kind of behaviour before except on an old desktop that  had a bad battery on the MB.  I have the device in heavy use and would hate to have to wipe it and return it so I'm hoping for other options.  At this point it's just an inconvience issue, resetting system time if the battery drains completely, but I fear it might lead to other problems down the road.
advTHANKSance!

This would indicate that the UEFI-BIOS battery is not good. When the system completely discharges, it's like when the old desktop you mentioned became unplugged, or there was a power failure, the BIOS battery is not holding power, so it reverts back to its initial time.
Your system should still be on warranty. Time to call Toshiba Support and arrange for a repair.
Good luck with that whole experience.

  • T400 system time resets when battery dies

Anyone else having this issue? I've had it on many of our T400's here. If the user allows the battery to completely run out without shutting the laptop down, it will kill the bios battery too and reset the system date and time.

I have had this problem with other laptops as well..
I am guessing the problem is with the cmos battery on the motherboard and not the main system battery,
Whwn the system is shut down or the main battery dies, the cmos battery is the one that saves the time and keeps it updated.
Also its the cmos battery that powers the bios during system startup.
If you need to reset the time every time you start up the system , thats the first indication that the cmos battery is dying.

  • OneKey Optimizer: Showing battery time instead of battery percentage

So I just downloaded OneKey Optimizer for my Lenovo Z50-70 and there's a green battery icon on the lower right corner of my desktop. Sometimes it'll display the battery percentage, but most of the time it'll display the predicted amount of time the battery has left to sustain my laptop. How can I change the program so that it only displays percentage?

I'm having the same problem too. My mom has a Yoga 2 13 and for some reason it did not come with OneKey Optimizer already on it. I downloaded it today from Lenovo's website and though some of the options on that app are on my computer but not on her app on hers, it works just fine. However, I can't seem to figure out how to change her battery icon from telling her the approximate time until the battery dies to showing the battery percentage, like it does on mine.
Every time she plugs in the charger, though, the battery percentage displays itself on her battery icon, no doubt because it can't exactly tell how long it will take the battery to run out when it is plugged in, but when she unplugs the charger cord, it reverts back to showing how many hours and minutes it will last. This is very frustrating to her. I haven't been able to find answers to this question anywhere on the internet, so I hope someone will promptly repost a solution to this problem.

  • "lost" my iPad.  Will the GPS still work after battery dies?  Also, how can I get the serial number for police report?

Please help!  I "lost" my iPad at a local store.  The GPS on my phone shows the iPad is still in the store (over 24 hours.)  I've searched every square inch of the store and cannot find it.  I fear it may have been "stashed" by an employee.  The police need a serial number for a report.  How do I get that?  Will I still be able to locate it via GPS after the battery dies?

Did you register it with Apple? If not, you would have had to write it down. Once the device goes out of wifi or if the thief turns wifi off...its gone. All they have to do is restore it as new, you wont be able to detect it again. Sounds bleak I know but its hard to get it back once its gone...no matter what Apple says.
I really hope it turns up...I hate thiefs. Best of luck.

  • SPA10 battery and BIOS time lost problems

We have 7 SPA10 laptops in our University department.
They are all showing the same problem when they haven't been used for a week or so.
    The error message is:
RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent.
Press F1 key to set Date/Time
They didn't use to do this so is there an RTC battery we can change or anyone know another solution?
Our SPA60s don't show this problem.
    Cheers
    Paul

    Hi
I'd like to give you some more info regarding this question.
Most Toshiba notebooks are equipped with a rechargable RTC battery. If they are left alone for some time, the RTC battery will discharge and You will get this error message when booting up the first time.
This is not the end of the world since the only actual problem is that time and date is lost.
The rest of the BIOS settings are set to factory default which in almost 100% are absolutely perfect.
If not, they are easily changed from within Windows via HWSETUP found in the Control Panel (icon looks like a wrench-tool).
It is as easy to recharge the RTC battery! Plug the computer in the the DC and start it up. After it has been running (turned on) for about 24 hours, the RTC battery should be 100% recharged.
    Good luck
    Tom

  • Bluetooth Fails Every time Battery Dies

Every time my battery dies (runs out of juice) and I plug it back in, I can't use my bluetooth mouse. When I restart my computer, it works again. Is there a fix for this? Anyone else having this problem?

But shouldn't the computer, since all other functions work, also have the bluetooth function after the battery dies from charge? Why is it that 99% of the computer still functions except for the bluetooth after my battery hits 0% each time?
BTW I have my battery hit 0% so I have a long lasting battery VS plugging it in every time it reaches the warning message.

    Try a SMC reset:

If this is an original battery, even with a low cycle count, it is old and probably should be replaced.

  • For all of us whose iPhone battery dies ridiculously fast

It's long, but please take your time to read it. Appreciate it.
Firstly, I believe it happens to a lot of us. It not only happens to me, but also a lot of my friends and my family.
Using iPhone certainly will consume its battery, and the way that consumers use iPhones and measure its battery is not the "stand by hours" but how long the battery lasts after charging it till full during our sleep or office hours. We simply only care about how many photos we can take, how long we can search things or browse things on the browser, how long we can call, how long we can use certain apps on the phone and so on so on. Of course, the most important thing is that we don't need to exchange some other essentials such as 4G LTE, brightness, background refresh, background location services, or even WiFi for those very basic functions. We, as users, totally understand certain functions may consumes more battery such as 4G LTE and background operations, but it cannot be the most prior excuse for the phone dies too fast.
Last month, I gradually cannot tolerate to see my iPhone's battery dies too soon, therefore I reserved a time slot in Genius Bar.
The response I got, was just as ridiculous as it could be. Firstly, the "Genius" told me to switch off the location services, the background refresh services, and to reduce the motion. He said, after these, your phone will be fine. It seems to be the end of the story, but it is just not. I have these already done long time before!!! Then, the "Genius" of course, did a comprehensive test for the battery and the phone. After a couple minutes, he showed me a list of app crash history, including some major apps that everyone uses and some foundation services of the system. He, of course, without seeing the apps, told me that many apps may be out of dated and developers may not update their apps on time so these apps may cause issues after time, and suggested me to delete those apps. After seeing the list, including Facebook, Weibo, WhatsApp. It is so obvious that these apps are not out of dated but so up to dated!! Ok, then he suggested me to restore the phone, of course I have tried it so many times. Then, he suggested me to use third party tools to back up some certain data and restore the phone as new. He said the bugs are in the backup. THATS IT!!!
I would not do it, the reason I keep using iPhone is because I value and appareciate the consistency and reliability of the system. I don't need to worry any lose of data when I switch to a new iPhone or upgrade the OS. And of course I don't need to trust and use other non-apple utility services to back up my data. Apple saves my time and brings me convenience, and I always purchase the largest possible capacity to store a lot of files in the phone.
I updated to iOS 8 this morning, and it took one hour to consume a quarter of battery. Now I am restoring it.
It happens to just so many of iPhone users. Hope Apple would value this issue and solve it as what Apple always does.
Thanks for reading. Hope some of you would pass it to insiders.

There is a new feature in iOS 8 that helps users track down battery hogging apps.  Settings, General, Usage, Battery Usage.  Perhaps that might help you figure out where your electrons are disappearing to.

  • Battery dies and computer shuts down

Up until about a week or two ago my MacBook was working fine. Yet now the battery is all messed up. Whenever the battery dies the whole system shuts down instead of going into safe sleep mode. I tried resetting the SMS, it worked at first, but then it just stopped going into safe sleep mode again. System profiler says that the battery is fine. I don't understand why it won't go into safe sleep mode, any help?

This might be a different problem, but I just recalibrated my battery for my Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (bought it it '07, replaced the battery once already). The battery life is actually worse now than before I recalibrated the battery. In fact, it turns itself off after a few minutes and I have to restart it, and the battery power is still reading 64%.
The cycle count in my system profiler reads 152, condition "good".

  • MacBook Pro - After Battery dies I'm not able to type in login window, until forcing a restart

Hi, as mentioned in the header : MacBook Pro - After Battery dies I'm not able to type in login window, until forcing a restart
After the battery drains to 0% the computer switches off.... *Makes sense*
Once I put the charger power chord back in for an extended period of time I hit the power button and then see the login screen.... *Makes sense*
However it won't let me type into the login box therefore having to force a restart and lose any saved data or data open when it died of battery. *WEIRD*
This happens every time my computer runs out of battery. I understand that obviously not letting the laptop die is a good idea, however it seems like there is something wrong as it allows me to login yet won't let me type anything...
Any solutions? Anyone else experience this?
I have an early 2012 MacBook Pro - 15 Inch Screen.

  • Front camera doesn't work! Battery dies super fast!

Hello! I received my ipod touch 5th generation as a bday gift in November 2012 and I'm having a couple of issues with it. First the battery dies really fast. I have wifi on all the time and I dunno if this is the issue, but using music playback for about 4-5 hrs/day and reading/instagram/fb/WWF for like 1-2 hrs, it lasts about 15 - 20 hrs. I think there has to be a problem because my touch 3rd gen lasted longer basically doing the same thing. And if I play a video for <1hr, the battery lasts less than 12 hrs. That's one thing. Also, a couple of times both the front and back camera have frozen up, and for about a week now, the front camera doesn't work. When I switch to it, it closes up as if it's taking a picture, but it never opens up again, it just stays there. This is for video and camera. The front one just doesnt work. PLEASE HELP! I'm obssesed with this thing and I'm really disappointed by these features. I dunno what to do. And the worst is that after I try to switch to the front camera, I can't switch back. I have to restart the ipod to be able to use the back camera, because it just doesn't do anything.

    For the camera problem
