• System trace for File, JDBC adapter

In the JDBC Adapter Help (help.com) I see:
„The adapter writes the output (STDOUT and STDERR) for the operating system command in the system trace.”
Which trace is meant here?
I have the same question regarding File Adapter.
Thanks, Jozsef

Hi,
have a look at my weblog to see how you can check
the traces:

• System Trace for function and programs called?

Hi All
I'm aware of ST05 for tables accessed, but is there perhaps a system trace that would list all the function modules and programs run during a transaction?
For example, I'd like to run such a trace on the Transport Logs button in SE10. I'd like to find a function module that would return a table of entries that exist in the tree list for Dev, QA & Prd. This should highlight if any released transports have not be taken to QA & or Prd.
Thank you and best regards,
Adrian

Hi,
SAP has provided a transactions:
"SAT" which is a run time analysis tool
"ST30" Global performance tool.
Hope this helps
Regards
Shiva

• Transaction System trace code

I'm looking for code that would run in background for a trace on all programs, tables etc. that are accessed during a certain transaction, but the catch is that I'd like to run this and do my own filtering, evaluation etc. of this trace data. The standard transactions e.g. ST05 and SE30 is of partial assistance, but I'm looking for a more programatically manageable solution.
Anyone done something similar. A pointer to a class or function group would be helpful. Thank you.

No real answer received. Just the usual drill down into ST05 functionality.

• System trace question

When I try to run a trace analysis (tcode st01) for example on user nxp between 14:00:00- 14:30:00 it simply does not show any records (when it should). It used to work when I changed the begin time to 00:00:00 and left the end time the same, but now that does not even help me any further. Any suggestions?

Hi Tiede,
In order to do a trace analysis, you need to activate the trace first..
Example, Select the kind of trace -> Trace On -> Replicate the issue or problem you need to debug -> Trace Off -> Analysis.
Without activating the trace the results will be empty
Hope this help

• Run Operating System Commands

Hi,
There is an urgent requirement, i want to know about Run Operating System Commands in file adapter. What are all possible commands for windows operating system? and how it works? Kindly send me your suggestions and links at the earliest.
Your help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sadhna.

Hi,
Run Operating System Command Before/After Message Processing
● Command Line
An operating system command specified here is executed before or after the message processing of a file that was found in a run. The default value is an empty character string (no command).
When the operating system command is called, the file name currently being processed can be specified with the following placeholders:
● %f (file name)
● %F(absolute file name including path)
● Timeout (secs)
This specifies the maximum runtime of the executing program in seconds. When this time interval is exceeded, the adapter continues processing. The executing program continues to run in the background.
● Terminate Program After Timeout
Set this indicator if the adapter is to terminate the executing program when the timeout is exceeded.
The adapter writes the output (STDOUT and STDERR) for the operating system command in the system trace.

• No entries in trace file - ST01

Hello gurus,
I'm trying to analyze an authorization problem so I created a test scenario to understand how authorization trace works.
For this test scenario, I'm trying to enter SE38 with a user that has no authorizations and getting "no authorization" error.
I activated the system trace from ST01 with authorization check setting, got the error and then deactivated the trace. But when I try to analyze, there are no records about the authorization error I'm getting.
Is my test scenario correct? If yes, why can't I see the missing authorization from the trace?
Thank you for your input.
Kind regards,
Gökhan

Hai,
Check the parameters controlling the Traces:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/5a/ace282ca0211d194b500a0c94260a5/frameset.htm
You might have configured less space for writing trace files at file system level/hard disc.

• Unix trace

Hi Guru's.
I have some background unix program's which i run manually from the unix or schedule them in cron, i need to know is there a way to create a unix system trace as like we create performance TKPROF trace.
Regards,
MB

As I mentioned you can enable trace in your code as well using following
ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS '10053 TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL 12';
ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS '10046 TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL 12';
You can use some work-around, like use one parameter in procedure or shell script that will tell code to enable trace or not i.e. if trace need to enable run above command otherwise skip above command. OR you can write shell/perl script wrapper.
OR you can set trace manually(or in login trigger) as well using following
For trace on
exec dbms_system.SET_EV(SID,SERIAL#,10046,12,'');
For trace off
exec dbms_system.SET_EV(SID,SERIAL#,10046,0,'');

• Unable to Add/Edit Trace or Log Configurations in SOAMANAGER

Hi everyone!
When users try to Add or Edit Configurations for Trace and Log they get the following error message:
"User doesn't have authorization for activity Configuration"
Please, anyone can tell me what authorization should I assign to that user?
What is the object that grant this access?
I tried to track the error by SU53 and system trace but no records are found.
Hope I can find the answer in this forum,
Thanks for your help.

• Confused about Trace Concept

There are two different directory to store trace file shown below:
1. /usr/sap/DEV/DVEBMGS00/work/dev_*
2. /usr/sap/DEV/DVEBMGS00/log/TRACE
Here is my opinion,
1. Those files dev_* are created by SAP system automatically when error occurs, and we can not switch on/off them manually.
2. TRACE file is created by ST01 or ST05, we can switch on/off them manually.
Please advise whether my opinion is right or not.
Another confused thing, eg, RFC trace, we can get it from ST01, ST05, and dev_rfc, dev_rfc0 and so on. What's the difference between them? Please advise.
Thanks so much.
James

There are two types of traces:
One is Developer trace other one is system trace.
Developer Trace:
rdisp/TRACE=<n> option set to the instance.
We can even use the SM50 and choose the WP and activate the trace or increase/decrease the trace.
Default location in OS level is /usr/sap/SID/D*/Work
Can be see from St11 or at OS level.
These are recommended for system monitoring and problem analysis.
System Trace:
ST01/ST05 We can on/off the trace for particular activity .
rstr/filename this profile parameter is used to set the location of the System trace file location.
Usually it is /usr/sap/SID/D*/log/TRACE
To view ST01-->Analysis (once trace is on and activity is completed Trace off then we can view this )
These are used to record the SAP internal activities.
=========================================
Even I not clear with the following :
RFC (Remote Function Call) facility
dev_rfc, dev_rfc<n>
dev_rfc traces RFC calls to external functions (written in C or Visual Basic).
dev_rfc<n> traces RFC calls that are executed in SAP work processes. <n> is the number of the work process in the server . A work process uses the same log file across RFC calls.
==============================
Under trace Directory the files get created if we on the trace for the RFC call.
Other wise I think ingeneral it will get recorded in work Directory as a normal process due to system is generally traced for level 1.

• Sql trace (st05)

hi friends
.pls tell in detail how to evaluate the performance of one select querry by using sql trace.( pls tell all traces )

Kumar,
SQL Trace
SQL trace(ST05) provides the developer with the ability to analyse database select statements. Simply execute ST05
to turn on SQL trace, then execute the statement/program you want to analyse. Now turn off SQL trace using ST05
and click on list trace to view the details.
You can also perform traces on other items such as authorisation objects.
Authorisation trace analysis 1. Open two sessions
2. Execute transaction ST01 in one of the sessions
3. Select the authorisation checkbox, note the other traces
you can perform (SQL, RFC, Table Buffer etc)
4. Click the 'Trace On' button
5. Within your other session execte the transaction/report
you want to trace or get the user in question to do it
6. Return to the session where you turned the trace on and
click on 'Trace Off' otherwise it will continue to record
all athorisation checks
7. Click on the 'Analysis' button
8. Enter appropriate data into selection screen such as
Username, type of trace records (i.e. Authorization check)
9. Click on the Execute button.
10. Report displaying trace results will now be displayed
http://www.sapdevelopment.co.uk/perform/perform_sqltrace.htm
Some useful transaction related to this are ..
ST01 SAP system trace
ST02 Buffer statistics.
ST03 Workload analysis.
ST04 Database performance analysis.
ST05 SQL trace .
ST06 Operating system monitor ...
From the recorded SQL trace you can deduce:
· Which SQL statements your application carries out
· Which values the system uses for specific database accesses and changes
· How the system translates ABAP OPEN SQL commands (such as
SELECT) into standard SQL commands
· Where your application positions COMMIT statements
· Where your application makes repeated database accesses
· What database accesses or changes occur in the update section of your
application
Look at the below links, you will get the idea

here is where sapinst stops after selecting the java dvd:
somehow the getting the right Java home seems to be the problem, although environment variables are set...

• Org Level, fund center/cost center level restriction for tcodes????

I am looking to see whether org level restriction and cost center/fund center level restriction is possible for certain set of transactions.
I am using USOBX table for this analysis. This table has a check flag field ( same as in SU24) which says whether the Tcode (program) does the authority check for certain auth objects. Example- X (checked but not maintained in USOBT). This table pulls up several authorization objects under the 'X' category. However, when I do the System trace for the same tcode, all the objects (marked as X) are not captured. Instead only a few are captured.
Can we rely on the USOBX data or should we do system Trace for every tcode. I am just pulling a report and not creating roles at this point. So trace is time consuming. But data reliability is equally important.
My objective is to verify whether org level and cost center/fund center level restriction is possible or not for some tcodes.
Do you have any suggestion to achieve this faster (through USOBX or any other means)?
Thanks in advance
Kee

I would suggest you to check USOBX_C and USOBT_C instead of USOBX and USOBT as it will have your customization as well and not just the standard ones given by SAP.
Also when check field is X ...it means the object is checked but not maintained for the t-code as you already said but I am not sure how much it will help you as the they will not be pulled by PFCG when you are creating the role until you change the object to Check / maintain . When you do that the check field will be Y and not X. So basically it is the Y one which you need to see.
Going for trace is time consuming for every t-code and I am not sure if it really needed. When your roles are in testing phase and are tested by the functional team or the team which needs it and if they are missing some object, you can run a trace and find the missing object....
I am not sure on what basis you want to change some field to Org level ...but typically it is done if you want to do segregation of roles based on these org level. There could be various other reasons and it is better to talk to your functional counterparts before changing a field to Org level.
for ex : If you want to segregate on company code, you will create co. code as Org level and create roles for different company code.
