System unstable

my computer worked well with old catalyst drivers and directx 8.1 but now when i installed dx 9 and catalyst 3.0 drivers, my system has become unstable it boots randomly when i use windows, expecially when playing video clips with windows mediaplayer or realplayer. All works fine when playing games, only windows causes problems.
Please help i dont know what to do ;(
my system
P4 2,4 ghz
MSI-648-maxF with bios 1.1
Ati radeon 9700
512mb ram
Windows XP professional
DX9 and catalyst 3.0 installed

Catalyst 3.5 is out already. And you can't uninstall DirectX. Just get DirectX 9.0a. You could also try the Omega driver for the Ati card, based on Catalyst 3.4 (http://www.omegacorner.com/). I'm waiting for the Catalyst 3.5 based Omega driver.

  • System unstable - MSI 785GM-E51 and OCZ3G1600LV2G

I had random freezes since I built the system(20 days ago). But, intially freezing up once a day or so. Recently in the last 10 days, the freezes are more often (sometimes within 5 to 10 mins). Basically system freezes at stock settings.
    Running Prime95 to test
Blend test stops mostly within the first few seconds reporting hardware error. The other two types work well. Did not let them go past few mins.
Also, changed the CPU to FSB ratio to 1:4. So, BIOS indicates 1600Mhz. Changed DRAM Voltage to 1.65V and system still unstable. Changed back.
Also, when I enable the MSI board features to Unlock CPU and ACC, the sytem does not boot under and stock settings.
    MSI 785GM-E51 BIOS 2.4 (had 2.3 before)
    AMD Athalon X3 435

    1TB Hitachi SATA
    Samsung 22x DVD/RW
    Enerma 05W power supply ETK405AST

    Run a test @DDR3-1066 first.

The model number is incomplete (not possible to find any match on the OCZ Product Pages).
Can you write down the model number as it appears on the modules themselves?
    Quote
Voltage 1.5V  (Mfg specs.. say 1.65V)
Those 1.5V do not indicate the voltage set in BIOS but the JEDEC Compliant default voltage for DDR3 modules (1.5V +/- 0.075V).  1.65V is an overvoltaged rating that is needed to compensate the overclocked/undertimed ratings OCZ adverises for those modules.

  • After replacing HDD system unstable troubleshooting advice?

    Hi,
I just replaced my HD with the following process.
Full copy to new dri on usb enclosure with superduper.
swap drives and system comes up fine.
After a day or so now its unstable. While browsing the net suddely everything restarts almost like finder restarts. but in this case it takes all the running programs and services with it. it recovers but almost all the services in the upper bar has vanished.   a reboot restores fine until it dies again.
I have run onyx and run everything and resored permissions also run repair via diskmanager.
I keep looking for any tools to help me troubleshoot this. Where would the logs be?
What to do? reinstall from scratch? the copy stuff in from old disk that is still intact.  i dont want to do that since i dont know if i have all the media anymore to my software.

First, you don't have a Recovery partition on the boot drive, which you should have. If your model is capable of it, boot into Internet Recovery and reinstall OS X.
Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery
If you still have the problem after reinstalling, proceed as below.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

I have a K7T266Pro2-A motherboard wid an AMD athlon xp 1800+ processor.  My main problem is when I load the optimal bios settings to get the processor at 1800+, my system becomes unstable.  It works fine at the default speed of 1153 mhz.  Anyone know how to fix this?

  • System unstable and requires reboot after 24 hours - HELP

I did a clean install of Leopard twice and the same issue appears. The system becomes unstable and requires a reboot. Mail doesn't function correctly and Firefox gives an error, "Another copy of Firefox is running. Only one copy can run at a time'.
The only option at this point is to reboot, however the system hangs on shutdown.

Sorry for the delay and thanks for the response. what I mean by unstable is that the system will not perform as expected. The problem seems to be growing however. It use to only occur after 24 hours of up time. Now it seems to occur after the system goes to sleep. Twice I have put the system to sleep and each time when it wakes, I can not do anything. If I click an application Firefox, Yahoo, iChat, Mail, etc it will not respond. Forcing a quit on the application does nothing. Each time I have been forced to bring the system down hard. -Any help is appreciated.

  • Is the SAVE system unstable ?

    Hello
I'm using illustrator cs4 a lot everyday, and invariably, it will CRASH when i save at least a couple of time per day.
It is true that i am running photoshop, flash, firework and dreamweaver at the same time, but the probleme still happen a lot when i'm only using illustrator.. I've tested a couple of possible solution ( reseting the preference on ALL adobe software )..
It mostly happen when i've done a big work and i wanted to save... usually because i often forget to save just in case of thing like that.. you know.. when you are focused on your task...
And starting today, Illustrator got a new probleme : the save take at least 30 SECONDES before saying anything, and during that time the software is just frozen. Even for a very small file ( less than 500Kb)
So i though about maybe there was a lot of thing running in the background of windows so.. i restarted the computer ( Cold start, not just a regular restart ) but both the probleme are still there.

Any idea ?.. Beside a full reinstall of all adobe software ?

Windows XP Pro in general became rather unstable as it relates to Adobe Creative Suite 4 so I upgraded to a new computer running Windows Vista (Windows 7 wasn't out yet) and it's the 64-bit edition of Vista.  Now I will be able to take advantage of all that CS5 has to offer in terms of 64-bit addressing once I upgrade to that version of Adobe CS.  I think you may have a corruption in Windows XP.

  • System Unstable-- Help!

I recently put together a system and I've been having a lot of trouble getting it stable WITHOUT any tweakings.  It'll boot into Windows XP no problem, it'll even run for a while without issue, and then it'll randomly just restart.  I've got the 865PE, P4 3.0C, Mushkin Level2 PC3500, Radeon 9600Pro.  At first i thought it was the vid card since at one point XP was telling me that it was actually causing my system to be unstable, so i uninstalled all the drivers and now am using the Omega drivers since other people have said they work well (maybe even better than the ATI?).  No longer get that error message.  Then I used Sandra to run some tests.  The CPU tests go fine without issue, even in a loop, but the memory tests don't go so well.  I can get the benchmark to run once, but if I try to make it loop it'll just restart near the end of the first loop (not even completing one).  So, I'm thinking it's the RAM.  I've tried using all sorts of timings, tried increasing the power to differing levels up to 2.7, played around with Performance Mode and Dynamic Overclocking, all to no avail.  I'm not sure what BIOS I had originally, but I flashed it to v1.9 and tried the same stuff and it still shuts down on me.  The only thing I haven't done is use memtest86, which I will do this weekend, but assuming there is nothing wrong with the RAM does anyone have any suggestions?  The Mushkin RAM uses Winbond BH5 chips, which are also found in OCZ PC3500 Platinum.  Anybody have any experience with either of these types of RAM?  Thanks.
Oh, and I've also been getting error messages from XP about the General Host Process for Win32.  I've read that that has something to do with SVCHost, and most people who got that error had the Blaster worm (which I do not).  Something about too much bandwidth being used at once.  I'm planning to just reinstall XP because of it.  Perhaps that's part of the problem....?

For your CPU and video card this PSU is on the light side. When you look at the actual spec's, you will see that the 'normal' load for the +12V is 6A. Your CPU can draw over 10A and your video card can do another 4-6A.

  • Mavericks 10.9.3 Blue Screen on start up and system unstable

I wonder if anyone is experiencing the same issue. After the last Safari update that I think was May 22nd 2014, My MBPro has been unstable. When booting up there is a brief dark blue screen with white Apple logo or occasionally a light blue screen with a white Apple Logo. The start up seems fine but the Mac becomes unstable after a while with the Finder crashing, apps hang which especially happens in FCPX or run really slowly and sometimes the Mac hangs when shutting down either showing a blank grey screen or the desktop wallpaper.
I read various forum articles and blogs, web site articles and have failed to find a solution. So far individually deleted each one of the start up items and did a restart each time to see if one of these was causing an issue. I now have no start up items and still have the blue screen.
I ran a disc check and did find some issues which I tried to repair. This failed so formatted the SDD. reinstalled Mavericks from a USB Stick with all files and settings from Time Machine to see if this worked. The SDD is now fine but still getting the blue screen.
Have on several occasions verified disc permissions using the disc utility. The only error that pops up seems to be with some help resource files associated with Safari. Have repaired these but the issue seems to return.
Besides the last OSX updates, I have not installed any new apps on my MBP and can't think of any other changes made since May 22nd. I can’t think of anything else that can be wrong unless there is some sort of sneaky virus or trojan lurking somewhere but Mac’s don’t suffer from these do they? Anyway always had Norton running, firewalls etc.
Any thoughts, solutions etc. gratefully received.

Barney-15E responded to my earlier question re the progress bar by writing that the progress bar appears only during a safe boot. What is a "safe boot?" Except for the last two days (out of a bit more than four years), the progress bar always showed up. Can someone explain what "safe" means and how you can do a safe boot v. a normal boot?
    Thank you.

  • Maverick makes system unstable.  Randomly reboots

After installing Maverick operating system, my system will randomly reboot.  How do I troubleshoot this?

I also have the same phone, and have had multiple problems from day one, including rebooting, although not as often as yours.  I actually took it in to the local store within the two week period, when you are supposed to get your phone replaced if it isn't working correctly.  The young lady told me that she couldn't get it to do what I was telling her it was doing, which was that any time I speak on this phone, to this day, unless I put it on speaker, my face presses buttons and eventually cuts off the call!  In addition, my phone repeatedly blurts out, very loudly, over and over "Verizon Wireless,"  for no reason that I can find.  It drives me crazy!!  This phone also constantly simply drops calls in the middle of a conversation, even on speaker.  I won't bore you with the rest of the problems that I'm having with it, because it goes on and on.  I am not willing to accept a "refurbished" phone, and have called Motorola, who has offered to repair my phone if I will send it to them, but Verizon is so far not willing to loan me a phone while mine is being repaired.  I thought that I was realling upgrading from my Droid X, and now I'm very, very sad that I didn't just keep it.

  • System Unstable after 10.8.3 install w/ Thunderbolt Display

I installed 10.8.3 on a MacBook Pro last week; system has a Thundebolt Display used as primary monitor, though both monitors are on and in use.
Randomly, but not less than 3-5 times per day, all the windows on the machine will freeze.  displays stop updating, windows stop moving when you try to drage them, KB doesn't put keystrokes on the screen.  Seems locked up.
Careful observation shows that the system consumes mouse inputs perhaps one every 15-30 seconds.  If I click on a sequence of things, and then stop and wait, the system does, indeed, respond to the mouse inputs verrryyyy sloooooowwwwllly.
Only way out, at first, seemed to be a hard power down.
I realized this week that if I immediately disconnect the thunderbolt cable that connects the macbook to the display, and wait a few minutes, the windows come back alive and the situaiton resolves on the laptop (now, without the display attached).  I have not had the problem happen on the laptop alone.
frequency is increased by having activity on both monitors (laptop and thunderbolt)
frequency is increased by using webcam on Thunderbolt display (with Skype, for example)
using parallels seems to increase the frequency
I've used this system rouintely for a couple of years; this upgrade has essentially rendered it unusable

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • System unstable since last OS update

Many applications seem to crash since the last OS update. Many game's, but also mail etc. Most of the times the application simply stops and the iPad returns to the default screen, but every once in a while the app makes the iPad crash completely up to the white Apple logo on a black background. Sometimes there is no audio and the app keeps working. Stopping and restarting the app helps, but 9 out of 10 times the app crashes after a few touch-screen actions.
Is this a known issue with the new update? Should I use the previous vrsion or is there a new one coming up anytime soon?

I have not heard of such an issue, but try these things:
    • Try a hard reset - hold the sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously for about 6 seconds, until the iPad tunes off. Then turn it on again.
    • Go to "Settings - General - Reset" and choose "Reset All Settings"
    • If it does not help, restore the firmware with iTunes - IMPORTANT, don't let iTunes use one of your backups… set it up as a new device. And don't load the iPad with all Apps at once, first try it without any 3rd party Apps. If it works, start with the Apps you need most, give it a try and if it is still stable, t hen go on with others.
When experience the problems again, just delete the Apps you loaded last to isolate the trouble maker…

  • System stability?

I don't understand when people mention system stability, how and what is that? relevance to functioning?
All this stems from a warning from a program called CheckUp that flagged it with this comment: "System: PlaxoABAddln, Input Managers detected. This technology is no longer supported and can make your system unstable"
I contacted the program's support team and ended up with this comment:
"We have received an update from the Engineering team about your issue with the Plaxo Input Manager. Input Managers like the PlaxoABAddin are basically used for customizing the input process from keyboards or other input devices.
However, since some such applications are known to cause system instability, Apple has stopped supporting them since Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard.
However, the Plaxo Input Manager does a minimal amount of work in customizing the AB application into the Plaxo information panel. And Input Managers MAY cause instability, but they do not necessarily do so.
Therefore, please ignore the message as there is no need to apprehensive about it. Please let me know if you have any other questions."
    Should i be apprehensive?
    Can anyone shed a light?

    Choggbabaprecious wrote:
I was hoping for a bit more information on why it could make system unstable. Plaxo insists it should not interfere but then why Apple does not support it with Snow Leopard? How does it actively affect system?
All technologies are constantly under review. Some don't work out as well as hoped or cause other, unforeseen problems and difficulties later down the road. When this happens, Apple deprecates the technology and, in most cases, provides an alternate method to accomplish the same thing. The first people they tell are developers who then have at least a couple of years to remove dependencies on the deprecated code.
At some point, the deprecated code will be removed and no one knows how the 3rd party software will react when code that it depends on is no longer there. It could partially work. It could crash. It could make your system unbootable.
In most cases, developers will only modify the code for new versions, requiring an upgrade for the new OS. In some cases (and yes, Adobe and HP, your ears are burning), they developers will not modify the code until it no longer works.

  • Rosetta emulated apps unstable

Has anyone experienced instability with non-universal apps emulated with Rosetta? I'm finding my new iMac to be a bit unstable compared to my old G4 mac.
The app freezes, force quite does not work either resulting in needing to hard restart the computer.
Have been trying to find out why this otherwise awesome computer is glitchy at times.

Having very similar problems with iPad One...    Many of my apps now close automatically after only being open for a minute or two..  Extremely frustrating...  Yesterday it took over 2 minutes for my calendar to open, always has been near instant on...
Web has turn into an snail paced experience...   Wifi is not the issue...  Speednet test show ping 21 ms, upload 3.92 Mbps and download at 18.77 Mbps..
Biggest technical issue I have found is RAM useage...  Open up a few apps, mail, calendar, USA Today and my free RAM drops below 5 mb, which clearly makes the whole IPAD system unstable...
I use to be able have 20+ apps and NEVER have RAM issues...  Something in IOS 5 is driving this issue...
I did have iCloud on the iPad, but that completely destroyed my calendar and address apps, plus brought total chaos to my other Apple hardware (iMac, Mac Air, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS)... Took many hours to delete it...   There could be some lingering issues on the iPad with its tie in to IOS 5...
Clearly the release of iCloud & IOS 5 were premature & we have turned into beta testers,,
