System Upgrade Issue

Hey,  I think I did something stupid.  When my system was upgrading,  I exited the terminal without the programs being fully installed correctly,  but now when ever I type sudo pacman -Syu it says my local database is up to date.  I've cleared the program cache but with no results.  If anyone has any information on how I could try re-doing the system update that would be great.

schuay wrote:have you tried pacman -Syyu?
Thanks for your suggestion,  I just tried this but still no luck.
The problems that happened after I exited the install by accident are,  The log in screen is now nothing how I set it up, and the gnome-system-tools arn't shown in the administration menu even though I've tried reinstalling the package.  I'm not really sure what else to do.  Theres probably more errors but I havn't had the time this evening to actually mess around with it to much.

I am having issues with my Window 7 on boot camp. My hardware is Macbook Pro Mid 2010 model and working on OS X 10.9.5. Recently I went to windows 7 to do a system upgrade but failed and was told to update the bootcamp drivers. I installed boot camp5 but seem to be the wrong version and change to boot camp 4 which was updated okay. However I still cannot do the updates. Can someone advice me please? Thank you!

Please see Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support for the appropriate version of drivers related to the specific version of Windows 7.

Be careful with Windows Updates, especially driver updates. Standard WHQL drivers can cause problems.

  • System upgrade agetty issue

I executed a complete system upgrade yesterday.  Now when I attempt to login in (through the terminal, not graphically) it allows me to enter my username and then instead of prompting for a password it immediately reports "incorrect password" about four times and the returns to the login prompt again.  I have no idea where to begin debugging this and would appreciate some input.
    Thank you,

  • Sony Xperia system upgrade causes BT email issue

My Sony Xperia mobile phone has just had a system upgrade and now my BT emails are coming up corrupted on it. I contacted my phone provider who tells me BT has changed their popbox codes and I need to go on to my account and enable it for mobile devices. I have had a look with no luck. Any suggestions please.

I have had this exact experience with my Sony Xperia M2 Aqua phone after downloading new system software about 2 weeks ago. My husband and I have the same type of phones and share the same email account. Fortunately he did not update his phone with the latest Sony software. He still has the previous version on his phone and he has had no problems at all.
I have had little joy with Sony other than to ask me to send them screenshots of the problem, to take off and reload my btinternet email account, and to use PC Companion to repair/reload the software. I have done all they ask but to no avail as problem is still the same after doing everything they suggest. They are extremely loathe to accept that the problem stemmed from their software update but are now referring it to a technical department to investigate. Sony say that I can't revert to previous version either as a solution as they can't downgrade a phone again after upgrade had been installed.
I would welcome any suggestions or advice to fix the problem if anyone can help.

  • No battery life after system upgrade

I've searched this forum and found a few notes about significant battery problems after Android upgrades. Immediately after upgrading my Droid X, my battery life went from more than 24 hours to about 4 hours. The battery is very hot and takes about 6 hours to charge. Clearly something is draining the battery. The Verizon tech folks declared it a faulty battery and are sending a new one. I am certain that's not the problem, especially since others have reported the same issue.
So I hoped to wipe the cache before having to do a factory reset -- it was suggested as a possible solution. I have found some instructions for wiping the cache, but I can't seem to get the instructions to work. I power off my Droid, then hold the home key. Nothing happens. So I can't get to the menu that gives the options mentioned. Can anyone help? I loved my Droid until this update... I really need my phone to work as I am self-employed. I am my own IT department!

    Hi dazzie,
I understand your discontent; I would be frustrated if my phone's battery drained for no apparent reason. Please run your phone in Safe Mode as recommended by Cody21 (thank you!). Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue.
I have checked my resources and I learned that similar battery issues have occurred with other devices upon a software upgrade due to third party applications that are not fully compatible with the upgrade Operating System and a Factory Reset has resolved most post upgrade issues. Please do a Factory Reset as this may resolve your concerns.
Please keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

For me it occurred after this update..... I dunno why , but openbox wouldn't load, kde would, however
Guess it's due to the mesa update and using the legacy nvida-173xx driver

I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do? I am on OS X Yosemite.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

Anyone can help me tracing in which package the missing file is located (if it's not in compiz-core)?
Last edited by dexgeh (2012-10-16 17:58:39)

I managed to solve the issue commenting the --indirect-rendering flag and installing and launching driconf to create a default ~/.drirc file.
I just noticed that in the same upgrade I got intel-dri from 8.x to 9.x version, maybe it's related.
Launching a terminal in .xinitrc and manually launching
    LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose compiz --debug --replace ccp
show me a lot of errors, but it's working, and I don't need anymore the --indirect-rendering flag (in the past I put that flag in the command because of the bad performance that compiz had without).

  • 10.4.8 (and any other system upgrade) - Safe Mode?

It has recently been suggested to me that in addition to the repair permissions before and after, verify disc, unplug all externals, and use the Combo routine, that booting into safe mode to do any system upgrade is the preferred path since there's less chance of issues arising afterwards. Can someone advise on whether this is the preferred method, or would a safe mode upgrade (in this case to 10.4.8) present additional potential problems?
Also, I'm on an Airport (dual ethernet) network here at work (I'm the admin to all the computers - all G4 PPCs) and we need our network. Is 10.4.8 safe for an Airport network? I've seen some rumblings.

I've never heard or seen it is preferred to install updates after starting up in Safe Mode. Doing so is for troubleshooting purposes only so I'm not sure this is a good idea.
    Check this link for recommendations.

I use an Airport Express for my wireless network and I experienced no problems after installing the 10.4.8 update. I've noticed a speed improvement when browsing.

    Can you please advice

    Asiam -
More than likely - there is something on the network that is distrupting the download and recompression of the upgrade package.
If you can - please contact the TAC, open a support case, and also open a tunnel for the appliance.  If permissiable, just let us know if it is OK to attempt the upgrade while we are connected through tunnel as well.
Instructions on how to open remote access to ESA:

    ## Please make sure you use the command above, from its CLI (command line interface), when opening the remote access.

*** Also, please verify the S/N on the appliance the tunnel was initiated against. ***
You can either generate a support case directly from the appliance, or dial into the following:

Since system upgrade on ipad, I am unable to purchase or update any of my apps.

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iPad forum.

  • [SOLVED] Boot problems after system upgrade

    hi everybody,
first of all i have to say, that the machine where i installed Arch is pretty old (something around 5 years).
I already tried installing Arch two times and every time after i performed a system upgrade, i couldn't boot arch.
Before the upgrade i rebooted several times to ensure that its working with the brand new installation - it worked.
Here i'm the 3rd try. This time i configured packman to ignore the kernel package and voila its working now with kernel 2.6.25.6-1.
So, here is my question: Is there any problem that could appear later on if i never upgrade the kernel?
I'm quite new to linux and really appreciate your support.
    Regards
    Daniel

Well ... the kernel, like any other piece of program, from time to time has to be patched if they find a bug in it.
Never upgrading means that you do not get the benefit of security and improvements patches.
There is also the issue that some programs, a few, may want to have a certain kernel to run but I think that is less common.
I, for instance, have not upgraded the kernel for a few months now because it screws up my wifi.
If you can live with that then  you are OK.
