System Windows 8 wont shutdown

I just installed windows 8 PRO on my Lenovo - ThinkCentre M71e. My version of PC is: 3129.
Problem is - that PC wont Turn off. When i go to Windows 8 system shutdown: monitor & hdd turnedoff, but green light stays and fans are still working. Then i must hold power button for 5 s - that system turns off.
There is no hardware problem - becouse i cloned HDD and is on 13 diferent stations same error.
What have i done?
- BIOS is updated,
- Intel chipset in updated,
- i installed Lenovo Power Manager,...

Hi.
This could be an issue with hardware or just the way that Windows 8 works. By default, Windows 8 "shut down" performs a hybrid shutdown, which enables the computer to shut down the hard drive and other systems, but also keeps a few system components working so that startup is as fast as possible. To fully shut down the system, open Command Prompt and type "shutdown /s /t 0" (without the quotes.) This should shut the system completely down. However, provided the hard drive is not constantly spinning while it is "off," I do not think this will be a burden on your computer.
Good luck,
Adam

Hello arunnair988. I understand that your notebook froze during an update, requiring you to reboot early. Now you need to get the operating system back in a working condition but do not have any recovery media or Microsoft Restore Points. Is this correct?
You have two options. The first is to try an HP System Recovery instead of a Microsoft System Restore. The difference is that a restore takes your system files back to a known working point in time, but leaves your personal files mostly intact. A recovery is a reinstall of the operating system. ALL data that is not backed up before the recovery will be lost Follow these steps to perform a recovery without any discs.
If this doesn't work or you'd like to get physical discs you will need to contact HP directly. If you're currently in the USA/Canada you can call them at 1-800-474-6836. If you're in another region you'll need to check this site for your area's contact information.
I hope you find this information helpful arunnair988; have a great day!

  • T410 - WinXP Pro Taskbar hangs and system takes forever to shutdown

    Hi,
I've been having a weird issue with my T410. I created 3 partition on the HDD, one ntfs which i install WinXP Pro, that i downgraded using IBM recovery disk (since mine came with Win7 x86). My 2nd partition, is using ntfs with win7 x64, which i clean installed using a different license. Im reserving my 3rd partition to install my linux soon. Win7 on my machine works awesome. On the other hand, my XP is running nuts, the taskbar hangs every other minute and the system takes forever to shutdown (sometimes i just dont bother to wait,i'd just force shutdown). After I click Start>Shutdown, some of the programs will start to slowly close, and then it just hangs there. If i try to open any programs, i get an error message saying that the system has initiated shutdown, but it just hangs there for like good 5 minutes. Task manager wont open during that time too...I've tried uninstalling some programs that i thought might be distrupting the shudown to no avail. Can anyone suggest me anything else that i can do?
On the worse case scenario where i **might** need to reinstall my XP using the recovery disk again, would it be possible to keep my other partitions intact? I dont remember seeing that option in any of the IBM's that i've worked with. That option came standard with my old toshiba..
    Btw, im running a T410, i5 540, 4gigs DDR3 RAM, if that helps.
    Thanks
    Huz

How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    Check for Login Items
Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps you have listed there.
And go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash
If there's enough disk space and login items aren't an issue, launch Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing.
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Select: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions).
If the disk needs repairing >
Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • IMac 333 wont shutdown

My iMac 333 blue, wouldnt shutdown with OS 8.6. I figured it's time to update to OS 10.3.9 and I did, wiping out the hard drive and doing a clean (reformatting) install. Now the iMac wont shutdown AGAIN. It restarts ok. Is this a hardware thing? OS 8.6 is gone, only 10.3.9 is on it...??????

    Steve,
I'm not sure about the not shutting down thing, maybe a disk permissions or a preferences thing would be my guess. (Do you have an automatic file back up on your system that is set to back up everything before shutdown?)
When I updated my iMac from Classic OS to OS X, I thought I had to update from 8.6 to 9.2.1 so that classic would work on OS X. I also had to update the computer firmware. If you didn't use the correct firmware update, that might cause both of your problems.
    Just a guess.
    as always,
    just a rambling joe

  • Photosmart C8100 operating system Windows 7 - no error message - no changes

Paper comes out with folded upper right corner.
Happens about 99% of the time.
Using H/P paper - both ink jet paper and premium photo with same results
Have followed video directions provided by H/P - no change
Have cleaned inside as much as possible with compressed air and hand vac.
See no paper scraps in path.  Rollers seem soft and clean.
    Anyone seen anything like this?

I could not even get to that window, I was able to select repair or complete install but when I chose repair, a message came up saying I couldnt repair that version of windows. It is the same disk I used for installation and it is in perfect condition.
Original HD configuration that was working was:
    Slot 1 - original apple 250gb hd with System OS X 10.6.8
Slot 2 - 1tb hd formatted for OSX for storage
Slot 3 - 1tb hd with System Windows XP SP3
    Slot 4 - 1tb hd with System Windows 7 64bit
HD configuration when that I changed:
Slot 1 - original apple 250gb disk was copied over to Slot 3
Slot 2 - unchanged 1tb hd formatted for OS X storage
Slot 3 - erased hd, reformatted and copied files over from hd in slot 1 using Disk Utility
Slot 4 - unchanged, Windows 7 64bit Ultimate installed now not booting
I have tried swapping the Windows 7 hd to each hd slot and rebooting (a Mac Pro gets really heavy after doing that 3 times!). Using startup manager, the windows boot option is unavailable. I can still boot into OS X in each placement without issues. I can go to System Preferences>Startup Disk and can see the Windows 7 option and select it. However even if I restart the computer from Startup Disk with Windows 7 selected, it will go to a black screen and say enter CD.
In case this helps, I had to purchase an original Windows 7 64bit ultimate and then create a new bootable system disk to install on this computer. I tried system repair from both disks and it did not work.
Im beginning to think that reinstallation is unavoidable, but still hoping that I can find a solution first. The actual installation isnt the major issue, it shouldnt take more than an hour to reinstall and update the video drivers. Its the installation of the programs and having to redo all of the settings on the 4 major programs that I am using that will literally take days. Oh man, somebody must know the answer!!
Thanks again for the response, I truly appreciate the help

  • "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks." Error

Hey Im getting the following error when trying to install windows from a USB.
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks."
I installed the windows 8 (64bit) iso using boot camp to a usb.  I was able to do this after changing the info.plist to allow me to place the iso on the usb.  After I make the partition and start the install, I get the above error.  I formatted the partition in the installation but I keep getting this error.  I've repreated the entire process but i keep getting this errror and the disk utility says my partition is a Windows NT File System (NTFS) so im not sure what's going on.  If you can help me that would be greatly appreciated

I am having the same problem. Windows is trying to install. It identifies the various partitions but says that I cannot install Windows on the Boot Camp partition or any other. I select Drive options (advanced) and Format the Boot Camp drive, but it makes no difference.
    This is the Windows error:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.
I am not sure what Csound1 is suggesting with that post above. There are some involved suggestions over here <https://discussions.apple.com/message/23548999#23548999> about using Disk Utility to delete the Boot Camp partition and create new ones - is that the idea?

  • Windows cannot be installed to this disk 0. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed on GPT disks

    Hi All,
I have been trying real hard to install Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro early 2011 model. I followed the instruction given by Bootcamp word to word, all things went very smoothly untill I was asked Windows Setup Instaled to selct the Hard drive. Here's the error:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk 0. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed on GPT disks...."
Let me know guys what should I do?
    Thanks,
    Attiqe

You have started the Windows 8 installer in EFI mode, and you don't have to start in EFI mode on a Mac because your Mac emulates a BIOS and a MBR partition table in order to install Windows in non-EFI mode.
To start the Windows installer, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting and have a look at all the boot options you have. You should see two with a DVD above and they must be named "Windows" and "EFI Boot". Choose the option with "Windows" and follow the steps to install Windows. Note that you have to format the "BOOTCAMP" partition from the installer to be able to install Windows.
If you are trying to install Windows from a USB drive, note that your computer isn't compatible to do it

  • Can you download a 32 bit installer for photoshop elements 12 to install on a 64 bit system (windows 7)

can you download a 32 bit installer for Photoshop elements 12 to install on a 64 bit system (windows 7). Thanks in advance

yes, if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

  • Opening an operating system window from Forms

An old feature from SQL*Forms was that you could open an Operating System Window by pressing a function key (or combination of keys)
I think this is still available in Oracle Forms 10g, but I can't remember which function key to press.
Can anyone help? I know that the function keys can vary across systems, so that I'm looking for is the default key (or keystrokes). I don't think it matters which versions of software are being used, but in case it does, the setup is:
    Oracle Forms: 10gR2
    Client PC: Windows XP
    Client Browser: Internet Expolorer 6
Application Server: 10GR2 on Windows Server 2003
Database Server: 10gR2 on Windows Server 2003
The database has the ORAFORMS$OSC role granted to PUBLIC, and the "<OSC>" flag is showing in the Forms Console.
Control-K gives a list of the function keys, but doesn't list anything for opening a DOS window:
As far as I know, frmweb.res has not been altered, but it doesn't list an option for opening an OS window anyway.
This is not about the HOST command.
    Thanks, Martin

    Hi michaeltowse,
This is indeed something more complicated. Let me give you
    some details about the project:
This project is to be initially created in Adobe Captivate.
It consists of the main menu that is to be created in Flash (menu
1); sub-menus, which are to be created in Captivate (menu 2); and
menus of sub-menus, which are to be created in Captivate as well
(menu 3). Now, the part where I need help on is the part that goes
from sub-menus (menu 2) to menus of sub-menus (menu 3). When any
option is to be selected from the sub-menu (menu 2), a new window
is suppose to pop-up (menu 3) that is suppose to be in Flash. This
new window is suppose to be a new Flash window and is not suppose
to be opened in a browser, but it's suppose to be opened in another
Flash window (SWF window). This whole entire project is to be
executed via an embedded Flash executable. Thus all the .SWF files
that were created in either Captivate or Flash are to be tied
together via a Flash executable. I was told in Captivate's Forum
that this may be done via ActionScript in Flash and I'm wondering
whether that is that case. Please tell me if my project makes
    sense.
    Thank you.

  • Operating System(Windows 7) got corrupted ..!

    Hi all,
Can someone please help me with my laptop issue ???
    My Laptop Details :
Product name         :  HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
Operating System :  Windows 7 Home Premium
    RAM                             :  6GB
    Processor                  :  Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU [email protected](2400MHz)
    Purchase                   :  Decemeber, 2010.
    My Laptop problem :
My HP-laptop got infected with "virus" ( it says like found 38 virus).
And because of this virus attack , I was NOT able to open any application , for example say if i try to open "notepad" - then throws a message like " unable to open notepad application, though infected with virus".
So with this , i can confirm that my laptop was NOT allowing me to open anything because infected with virus.
Now i have 2 options to go further :
    1) Remove virus , using antivirus removal software ( This i don't have , so NOT attempting to use)
    2) Recover thru recovery option.
When i purchased this laptop , the laptop contains recovery partition within the laptop , so it's a built-in option.
Though i was NOT interested to keep that recovery partition in my laptop, I just burned recovery manager into 7 DVDs, and then deleted the partition.
With this my laptop contains drives like :
C: drive --> this contains OS related stuff
D: drive --> this contains my general stuff like songs , movies , etc
System drive --> 199MB ( not sure what thid contains )
Now coming to original problem/issue -
I have planned to use recovery DVDs , to recover to factory state.
Started with 1st DVD , it went upto 18% and then asked me to insert 2nd DVD.. and this went upto 30%.. now again asked me to insert 3rd DVD.
With 3rd DVD.. it went upto 40% , and then stopped responding. Nearly I've waited for about 3 hrs.. but NO use.. it's still hanged at 40% only.
So with 3rd DVD , it got hanged or stopped.
My doubt - not sure whether my 3rd DVD got corrupted or not , but i don't think so.. because 3rd DVD worked for atleast 10%..
Finally , I was struck here...
Not sure what's my next step
Please help me what I have to do now, like  what steps to take... etc
    How to recover?
    Thanks
    Kiran

    Hi,
Lets start with your providing the complete product name or product number.
HP has produced and brought to market perhaps more than 10,000 models of notebooks and desktop PCs over the years. It is difficult to help you if we don't know which one you own and which operating system is installed.
Method #1: If the notebook will boot into Windows you can retrieve your Product Number by pressing Fn + Esc key. You can also read the Service Tag (if present) attached to the bottom of your notebook\netbook.
    Method #2:
Remove the battery and look in the compartment where the battery was installed. You should see a printed part number and a product name. Please post one or both of them (with all alphanumeric characters here). If you live outside of North America, it helps us if you post the country of purchase.
Were you using an antivirus product (free or paid) when this issue happened?
What was the brand and product name of the Antivirus product?
    Best regards,
    erico
