System windows repositioning in the desktop area
How can I get various system windows in WINDOWS XP and also WINDOWS 7 (e.g "Display Properties" card or "System Properties" card) to remember their new placing in the desktop area after I have moved them? They always revert back to the original position next time I open them.
It is a preference in Finder>Preferences>General>Show CD&DVD
and >Sidebar>show items in sidebar

We have a 10 person office - all either use Acrobat XI or Reader XI. One person is on Windows 7. The rest are on Windows 8 (not 8.1). I say this because I thought it was a Windows 8 issue, but having the same problems on the Windows 7 machine. We are all having problems opening pdf's sent to us from other firms. This has increased in frequency over the past two months. We've checked with the various firms, and their other clients are not having problems. Some pdfs open but with a lot of missing content and strange formatting, others won't open at all. There are different error messaged depending upon the doc. Some are regarding the fonts, for example "can't extract the embedded font...." Others are "insufficient data" errors. There are more, but for purposes of keeping this short, I won't include them. Another unrelated issue is that we are having trouble printing excel files to pdf. The files end up with bad formatting. I've worked with adobe "chat" support, our IT consultants with no resolution. I also haven't found any similar "known issue" online Would very much appreciate any assistance. Thank you
The font embedding can be a problem if not done and you are trying to view the PDF and do not have the font on your machine. Acrobat will often try to find a replacement, but it is not always a good choice. Sometimes the "Use Local Fonts" button can be changed in state to resolve some of the viewing issues.
If you are trying to copy or export info, then it is important that you have the fonts on your system. Otherwise, the message you are getting about embedded fonts would not be showing up.
As for Excel formatting, be sure that the Adobe PDF printer is selected in the printer screen before you look for the paging and formatting of the file. In most OFFICE programs, if you change the printer the application will reflow the document to best match the printer (called "using printer metrics"). So check before you create the PDF that the layout is correct. -

Window Tabs: dragging the window tab to the desktop
Window Tabs: Tried to grab the top of the finder window and wound up dragging the window tab to the desktop.
This creates a mini-window have to logout to remove.
If you right click on the finder icon in the dock and select show all windows they are in the list selecting them seems to do nothing but return you to the desktop.
What the heck is it?Hi roninkai I'm also experiencing this behaviour, if you drag a finder window by its tab on to the desktop it creates a mini finder window that doesn't do anything. I keep doing it by mistake.
You can get rid of them by doing a Force Quit on the Finder from the Apple menu, this quickly refreshes the desktop and then they disappear.
Hope they fix this in the next point release.

I rebootedholding the shift key.
I have checked the Finder / Preferences / General is selected to show the hard drives, also in Finder / Preferences / Sidebar is selected.
I have opened the Disk Utility application and if you see the system disk, I have told you to check and tells me that the disk has no problems.
Otherwise the iMac works perfectly, but Safari, which is all I have used since the problem besides Disk Utility sometimes gets stuck, and has trouble reconnecting.
Help, please.

Hello, since 10 minutes now my icons on the desktop are flickering / bliking / flashing, the little light under the finder keeps going off and on also. I was working on word, and everything shut down. I tried to restaure my file, but then the paperbin was empty !!!!!! !!! Please help me !! the finder won't open, nore my docs file !!!! Now there is just NO MORE files on my desktop.. it's getting worse !!!! Also, I tried to restart the computer twice.. nothing happended.. still blking... PLease help me !!!!!!!

sometimes on start all of the folders on the desktop are moved alphabetically to the right side of the screen, not as I had them organized on the screen before. also sometimes my folders when opened, move and resize themselves too...

The key is the "Show items as..." group of buttons in the toolbar... (as seen directly above the printer icon in the screen shot above).
Make sure the Toolbar (and Side Bar) are visible so you can select the view. ⌥⌘T (option-command-T) is the toggle to display the Toolbar.

Equalizer Window is Outside Reachable Desktop Area - HELP!
The equalizer window in iTunes is only visible when using function to view all windows in miniature. When I select on the EQ window in this view, it returns to its natural state - outside the screen area that is reachable by mouse pointer. I never hook this laptop up to a second monitor. How do you display an image in a forum message? I tried uploading the image file to the public space on my iDisk and then referencing that file using the Image: tag as described in the very measly docs for these forums. It obviously didn't work. 3 cheers for MobileMe and it's supposed intuitive interface, as well as not delivering on making it easy to share files (as was touted before its release).

I had the same issue. After I updated to Windows 10, Spotify would play the song, but there was no volume no matter how much I toyed with the volume settings. SOLUTION: Uninstall Spotify and then Reinstall it. This solved the issue for me. Best of Luck!

I have the options set to open new windows in a new tab. However, they do not.
For example, as I click on the various options for support on Firefox.com, each opens in the same window. Similarly for Yahoo. If I bring up the news page and click on various links, they all open in the same window. How do you get them to open in new windows?Pure speculation, but maybe that Identity Finder program is deleting your browsing history which is how Firefox restores tabs and windows from the previous session. Check with technical support for that program or look at the manual.

If I open Bookmarks and select a folder that is longer than the Firefox window is high, the part of the bookmarks list that falls outside the window remains on the desktop when I leave bookmarks or close the window. I must then do a refresh of the desktop to get rid of the junk. Does not happen with MS IE9. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a SONY VAIO laptop. It started when I went to the VAIO last November. A "Show Desktop" or a refresh of the desktop cleans it up.
Could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches with some graphic cards/drivers.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
