System won't boot with PCI-6014 installed

I am using multiple PCI-6014 boards in several systems. One of the systems now fails to boot. By trial and error with parts from other sytems, I have determined that I have a PCI-6014 board which if I place it in any system, the system it is in will not boot. If I remove this particular PCI-6014 board, then the system will boot. These same systems will boot and operate properly with any of my other PCI-6014 boards installed as well.

It appears that there is a problem with the board that prevents the systems from booting up. If you have tried the board in different slots and different machines with the same results, the next step is to request an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) for that board by calling our customer service number: 1-866-275-6964.

  • System won't boot with incorrect date/time

Hey, I setup a computer back home for VNC, however there was a power outage and now the BIOS has reset. Unfortunately it defaults the date to 2099 for some reason, anyway now the computer won't boot (I can't remember the exact error). Anyway the trouble is I can't access that computer now, and it has no monitor hooked up, is there anyway I can force a boot with just keyboard and without setting the correct date in the BIOS (no one with access to the computer could do this).
    Appreciate any help.

You can try to just press F1.
I have a similar issue with my home server, the battery on the motherboard is dead so when the pc is powered off for a while it will not remember the clock. When trying to boot the system in such a case it spits out an error where it offers to "ignore" the error if you press F1.
In my case I need to wait until my pc beeps before pressing F1, basically you need to get past the BIOS stage.
With a bit of luck it might work for you too.
Also I hope you have some ntp service running on your system to make sure the date gets set correctly on your system on bootup.

I'm running a windows XP system with Labview 7.1 installed. I have installed the GPIB drivers, but when I insert my PCI-GPIB card, the computer will not boot(it freezes before the POST). I'm running a Shuttle "MK40VN" KM400 Chipset Motherboard.

Well, nevermind, I just verified that the card is in fact fried.

  • PowerMac DP G4 Won't Boot With All RAM Sticks Installed

A few weeks ago, my 800 MHz dual-processor G4 started having frequent kernel panics. I tried all sorts of things, including changing the PRAM battery, resetting the firmware, and resetting the PMU. Then, one day, it would only power up but not boot, so I took it in for repairs.
The shop I took it to determined that the logic board was malfunctioning and replaced it. The computer no longer has any kernel panics.
The machine was designed for three 500 MB RAM sticks, which is what it had ever since I bought it over five years ago. Now, apparently, it won't boot with the last one installed, though it will with two. The shop replaced the new logic board and and even swapped RAM, but the problem still persists. Neither the power supply nor the hard drive appear to be malfunctioning.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on? Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    G4 800 MHz Dual Processor   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    squeakmaster, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried the following with one 512MB RAM stick:
    1. Palce it in the first RAM slot. Does the Mac boot?
    2. If so, remove the stick & place it in the second RAM slot. Does it boot?
    3. If so, remove the stick & place it in the third RAM slot. Does it boot?
The results of this test should reveal (1) if the stick boots in one or more RAM slots, the RAM is good and (2) if it fails to boot in a RAM slot, there is a problem with that slot.
Do this with each of the tree RAM sticks & post back the results.
When the logic board was replaced, was the firmware updated to be compliant with OS X. (Note - The firmware is installed on a chip on the logic board.) Check your Mac's firmware (Boot ROM version) version. Mac OS X: Available firmware updates
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117 If an update is required, the update must be installed (using OS 9) BEFORE you install OS X.
Can you boot up in OS 9.x? If so you can use DIMM First Aid - Check & recover disabled (missing) RAM from Apple's latest firmware updates http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/10415

  • Biege G3 won't boot with OS 9.2

I purchased a biege G3 MT with OS 8.6 on eBay. Unfortunately, the OS is in French. I upgraded that to OS 9.2 and now it won't boot. No chime and it stops after the first icon during startup. It won't boot with extensions off nor with the CD. I tried resetting pram, etc. without any luck. Loaded it with 8.5 and it works. Took another HD with 10.2 from another biege G3 and it works. It just doesn't like 9.2, but I have 9.2 running in another biege G3. Are there G3 that won't work with 9.2? Please help.
    biege g3   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Hi elpro,
Here's a bunch of stock responses you'll hear on the G3 forum.
Is the 9.2 CD a universal installer (gold color), or a gray machine-specific CD, and if it is gray, is it the right one for your machine? Apple made gold CDs for general retail to work with all machines, and gray ones that were usually distributed with a machine with the components just for that machine. Unless you have a universal installer CD, the version of OS 9 you are trying to install may not have the right components for your system unless you happen to have one that matches your type of G3. If the 8.5 CD is the right one, and the OS X you say is from an identical machine then that may explain why they boot up but not your OS 9.
If you post your problem on the G3 forum you'll almost be sure to get this question. How old is the battery in this machine? G3s exhibit all kinds of weird and unexpected symptoms when the batteries are weak, and they go through them pretty quickly, especially if they have been unplugged for a long time. The battery helps preserve basic machine configuration information between bootups so if you're having problems with your monitor it might even be related to the battery. If in doubt, replace the battery.
The PRAM reset and extensions off are the other stock replies but you've tried those.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot after trying to install 10.7.3 update. Start up stalls at Apple logo and spinning gear.

MacBook Pro won't boot after trying to install 10.7.3 update. Start up stalls at Apple logo and spinning gear. Computer won't even start in safe mode.

My daughter's MacBook Pro was doing exactly the same thing.  I don't know if it had anything to do with the latest update.  She called me about a week ago saying that her MacBook began running slower by the day .  She then called me Friday and told me that it wouldn't get past the gray screen and the gear just kept on spinning.  I did everything I could over the phone including Safe mode which it wouldn't go into and thought maybe it was the hard drive.  She took it to the Apple store.  Originally, they also thought it was the hard drive.  It ended up being a corrupted operating system (Lion).  Apple genius simply re-installed Lion and she's back up and running.  Good thing she backed up right before it crapped out.  She'll be restoring everything tonight.  Don't know if re-installing Lion will help your situation, but it did the trick for my daughter.

  • K9AGM3-F does not boot with PCIe 4x device in PCIe 16x slot

K9AGM3-F motherboard does not boot with PCIe 4x Intel PRO/1000 PT dual port network interface card installed into PCIe 16x slot on motherboard. The boot process stops in BIOS screens. The motherboard works flawlessly without this NIC. K9VGM-V + Intel PRO/1000 PT boot successfully. I tried three K9AGM3-F motherboards and two Intel PRO/1000 PT NICs in different combinations, the results are always the same. It appears to be some kind of BIOS problem.

Minor point, probably irrelevant: I said you install the driver f i r s t. Then you put the physical card in.
The driver is completely irrelevant because the driver is a part of operating system, but as I already wrote before the boot process stops long before the OS start.
Quote from: Fredrik Åsenius on 09-April-08, 22:52:27
    No stability issues otherwise?
PSU is always good to know.
The PSU is irrelevant too because the same NICs work in the PCIe 1x slot of the same motherboard with the same PSU.

  • System won't boot-no chime.

Despite repeated attempts and resetting the CUDA button, the system won't boot when start button is pressed. In the first few seconds it seems to make normal sounds; but no chime and settles into simply fan noise. This is true even if using C (with an Install CD). or Shift key. Is there anything else I can try? (I know it's actually a G3 B&W Motherboard; but I had nowhwere else to post it)

I do not remember exactly what was happening when it stopped. It may have been executing something , hung up, and wouldn't respond to the Command-Opt-Esc or I do remember one incident when it was booting up and stopped when it was partly thru "searching for local discs.
I checked the ref. article and tried to measure the voltages on the power connector. I was never quite sure what pin was what, since the colors did not jive with those in the article. At any rate 2 were approx. + 5 V (one was 4.85), the rest were essentially zero (I believe 1 or 2 were about 300 mv). I did notice that when the power connector is reconnected and start up is attempted, 3 little green lights come on on the motherboard. One goes off after a while.
I have tried the old Sonnet upgrade and have tried reseating all the RAM modules. All to no avail.
The Hard drive and all other parts seemed to be working fine prior to the failure.

  • System won't boot up

Help please. I have a kt6 delta running an athlon 2700+ xp chip, 512 mb ddr 400.
When I set the fsb at the correct speed for the chip (166) the system won't boot hard drive led lights up constant. dvd drive  and cd-r drive each run but the system won't boot.  system seems to run fine at default and 133 mhz but the chip is incorrectly identified in windows (xp pro sp1) Any Ideas whats wrong?

Hi -   I have the same board with the same processor, I have not problems rebooting after changing the bus speed. But I have had problems rebooting after adding in any card PCI or AGP. the system seems to have trouble clearing the Cmos, I would try clearing the CMOS with  the JBAT. it doesn’t always seem to work but I have had some luck, though I have also pulled out the battery a couple of time too..
    Good luck!

  • IMac won't boot from OS X install disc!

I'm needing to do some internal hard drive repairs but the system won't boot from the install disc! I've restarted it tons of times while holding down "C" and it just bypasses it and boots right into OS X. It restarts as normal with the chime (I am holding down "C") then the Apple logo comes up, then the spinning circle thing, but it just goes right into OS X. Help!

Let's be sure you are doing it properly.
First, you must use the OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. Carefully check both surfaces for scratches, dirt, fingerprints and if so clean it carefully with a very soft cleaning cloth that won't scratch the disc.
Second, insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when the spinning gear appears below the dark gray Apple logo.

Upgrade from snow leopard 10.6.8 to montain lion on a iMac system won't boot getting a crossed out circle

Clean install OS.10.6.8 update it completly. May be you ignored some firmware update.
    I have two incedents.
My thunderbolt port stopped working after upgrading to ML 10.8. I booted from external 10.6 , 10.7 still didnt work. Then i clean installed 10.6.8 and ran software update it updated the thunderbolt firmware and all is well now. This firmware update for some reason didnt show up in ML 10.8.
Secondly , when i upgraded my Brother's Macbook from 10.5 to 10.6.3 it would install but stuck with crossed out circle. Then i downgraded checked for update found an efi update , then the 10.6.3 worked fine.

  • [SOLVED] Switch to systemd - Now system won't boot

I saw that todays update upgrade included the installation of systemd. I looked the wiki and did the necessary changes (I already had made the /etc/hostname etc. files). So I added the
    init=/bin/systemd
line to grub and now my system won't boot. I get an error saying something about syslog service not enabled and then a black screen. I can boot my machine fine without the "init=/bin/systemd" line but I want to run a pure systemd system since Arch is moving to it anyway. In the wiki it mentions to install systemd-sysvcompat but it conflicts with initscripts it says. What am I doing wrong or missing?

Is LVM handled automatically by systemd? The reason I ask is because I have the USELVM= set to YES in rc.conf.
I made the permanent transition to systemd and did not start alsa at all - sound works fine - so I never bothered with the alsa-store/alsa-restore service files at all - it just works! Also dbus gets handled by default in systemd so you don't need any starting of dbus service at all... it just works.

  • K7N2-L won't boot when CD-ROM installed

    I'm assembling a new system:
K7N2-L, Athlon XP 1800+, 48C stabilized in setup
BIOS version W6570MS V5.0 031803 (from CMOS setup)
    512MB DDR2700 RAM
    Enlight HPC-340 PSU: 3.3V@28A, 5V@30A, 12V@15A, 285W max.
I installed an old hard drive as the Primary master, WD AC38400L, that has Win95 on it from a previous system.  The jumpers on the WD drive are set to "single drive."
With an old Mitsumi 4x CD-R drive as the CD-ROM (Secondary IDE master), it boots fine from the hard disk (the Mitsumi doesn't support El Torito, so I can't test booting from a CD).
With a Sony CDU5211 (on the compatibility list) as the CD-ROM, the system won't boot at all, from CD or HD: I get the "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message.  The system appears to never try booting from the CD, even if I set that first in the boot order.
I swapped the CDU5211 with a CDU5211 in another machine; both CDU5211's work in the other machine and exhibit the same symptoms in the new one.
Both drives are detected correctly on bootup and in CMOS setup.
I have the boot order set to Floppy, IDE-0, CDROM.
There is no floppy drive in the machine (who needs one, these days?); setting the CMOS settings to reflect that does not change the symptoms.
I tried installing a new Maxtor 40GB (ATA-133) and got the same symptoms.
I'm hoping I have missed something obvious; please illuminate me!  :)

Wonkanoby and I were just saying the same thing in different ways.  He was stating the jumper should be completely removed, and I was just making the point that there is a neutral position for the jumper.  I understand that there is no functional electrical connection with the jumper there, and that it does not matter if the jumper is on those pins or in the trash can.
My point about using the MS-6378 to test the hard drive and CD-ROM was that it proved there wasn't something wrong with those or with my jumper settings on the drives.  I know it's a completely different board.
I like the specs on the K7N2, so I will probably get another one at some point (when my credit card has recovered).  I just got one with an atypical problem this time.  The discussions here of problems with the onboard LAN were what convinced me to stick with the ASUS A7V333 for now; that, and it was $25 cheaper.  I'm not looking for screaming performance ATM anyway, just something I can use for testing Windows Server 2003.  This is about the 12th computer in my home lab.

  • [865PE NEO2 PFISR] Won't boot with added memory

Recently I upgraded a few items on my PC which has been running fine for 18 months or so. I changed out the video card and bought double the memory of the same brand and type it had in it. I went from 1gig (2 sticks) and added two more sticks. But now it won't boot. The power is on but no output whatsoever.
I RMA'd the memory thinking that might be the problem but it's the same with the new set. I tried all sorts of memory/slot combos. Basically, the new memory works fine if you swap it out in bank A with the old stuff. That's how it's running right now, so I know all of the sticks are good. I can take a third and put it in either slot bank B and it'll boot, but obviously not run properly. But any combination of these four sticks and the system won't boot!
    Please help!

What brand, model, and speed are the RAM sticks. Did you check your Test Report booklet which came with the mobo. If you can't find it, you can go to the MSI website and look for your MOBO and get the test report that way. Some brands/models will that have been tested are shown in the report to be okay in all 4 slots, some only test okay in 2 or 3. Check this report and if it is one of the brands/model/speed tested you will see how it fared. It may well be you the MOBO doesn't like your RAM in 3 or 4 slots.
Maybe I missed it, but did you try each slot with only one stick at a time? You may also have a bad RAM slot.
