System won't load after startup repair - Satellite A500

Hi guys,
I've got a problem with my laptop. I shut down my laptop directly by switching off from the switch. After I start the laptop the system recommends startup repair but it was unable to repair and after that it just went up to the welcome page and it won't load anymore.
Do anyone have any idea what is the problem?
Thank you

hi plioe,
can you run chkdsk on the hdd?
do you hear unusual sounds from the harddisk?
it seems that your harddisk has some problems...
this causes a slow startup or failure to boot...
but to be sure a recovery is recomended in some cases the software configuration went bad...

  • System won't load from startup

Nothing happens past the diagnostics part of startup. Screen shows "windows did not start properly last time" message and gives options. None work and when the countdown finishes to "load windows normally", system freezes.
The recovery disc supplied only allows hard drive to be formatted and reinstalled but I have all my music, photos and other work, including important emails, on the laptop and haven't got a back up.
How can I start windows from a CD so I can take off my docs onto an external hardrive before formatting? PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi Julian,
Your simplest option would be to remove the hard drive from your notebook and install it into a USB caddy which you could then attach to another PC and copy off your data. You could then just reformat/reinstall your system using the recovery CDs.
If you have access to a genuine Microsoft installation CD then you could try to boot from that and try to repair your existing OS but I don't think you would be able to copy your data using that technique.
Finally you could use a bootable CD from one of the commercial backup/restore utilities (such as Norton Ghost, or Acronis True Image) and try to offload your data to an external medium using that utility.

There are three possible solutions to solve the situation:
    1) Install a processor supported by the current BIOS Version to be able to properly turn on your system and then update the BIOS to the latest Version to be able to use your E8400/E0 (update should be done from DOS only).
    2) Ask in a local computer shop or contact your reseller to do the same thing for you.
    3) Connect an internal floppy drive and a PS/2 Keyboard and then try to force the system into AMI BIOS Recovery Mode.  Instructions:
    Quote
Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a floppy disk. e.g. Rename A7345IMS.1xx to AMIBOOT.ROM
Insert this floppy disk in the floppy drive. Turn On the system and press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. It will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the BIOS from the A drive.
When 4 beeps are heard you may remove the floppy disk and restart the computer.
Even though the AMI BIOS Recovery Procedure is the only chance you have to solve the situation without installing a different processor, it does not work in all cases.  However, as it is an easy procedure, it is at least worth a try.

  • Cannot boot from Windows 8 notebook - Error: Operating system version is incompatible with Startup Repair

    Hi all,
I have searched through forums, but could not find the solution to my problem:
I have a notebook ASUS with Windows 8 preinstalled.
Yesterday I was doing some housecleaning jobs with some freeware tool (don't remember the name).
Afterwards I have not been able to boot into Windows.
CURRENT SITUATION: When I switch the PC on, after the welcome screen of ASUS and Windows 8 the system goes to a blank screen (no cursor, no mouse, CTRL+ALT+DEL not working).
On next reboot, it does not start automatically the Recovery/Repair procedure and goes through the same steps again. It's not a loop, it just hangs.
Looking into c:\windows\system32\LogFiles\Srt\srttrail.txt I see the following error message at the bottom of the file on the time of my last boot attempt: "Operating system version is incompatible with Startup Repair"
I tried several things without success, so now I want to solve the problems one by one and first thing is to understand what might be causing the "Operating system version is incompatible with Startup Repair" error and how it can be solved.
    Thanks for reading

    Hi,
    Any update here?
I agreed with the others.  First, if we have any backup available to restore Windows 8.1, we may take use of that.
If we don't have any backup available, we'd better contact the manufacturer side for a deeper help.
Or as Janek Fehn suggested, make a clean install of Windows 8, then update to Windows 8.1 again.

  • My apps won't load after updating to iOS4.3.2. What to do?

My apps won't load after updating to iOS4.3.2. What to do?

Yes, I tried that (thanks for the suggestion, though!). In my music app, when I click on certain songs, the screen moves to try to start the song, but then it bounces back to the menu screen without playing the song. On many albums, when I click on the first song, a song about halfway through the album will start to play rather than that first song. My other apps seems to be fixed, but not the music function.

  • Lightroom 5 won't load after 30 day trial of Lightroom3 error.

I tried the 30 day trial of Lightroom 3 that I got with the Photoshop Elements 10 when I got my new computer.  The Lightroom loaded one picture and said I had an error and would try to find a solution.  I bought Lightroom5  and tried to install it and it keeps going back to the error of Lightroom 3 trial.  I tried to delete all programs associated with Lightroom and reinstall, but nothing happens.

it just reads "Lightroom-Opening Catalog:New Years Day 2014 031.JPG.Ircat   assertion failed!
New Years day 2014 is a folder and 031 is the picture in the folder that I tried to enhance in the 30 day free trial of Lightroom 3.  I bought Lightroom 5 from B &H and it appears to be hung up on the Lightroom 3 trial.

  • IBook G4 won't load after latest security update, repair doesn't work?

Hi I had the same problem as someone else in this forum:
"Last night I saw that my ibook G4 wanted to do a security update. I told it to do it, and the ibook has not started since. It reset itself after downloaded, but it just stays on the booting up screen, never actually booting up so I can use it. After about two hours of trying to boot up, I turned it off, and on again, and it still wont boot.
I really need suggestions as how I can fix it. Thanks

    HI,
Ok... you need to boot from your install disk.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
If you have the original hard drive in this iBook, it was probably a 60GB drive? When you can do this, check to see how much available disk space there is.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space can cause issues like you are experiencing.

I tried restarting it after the repair (there were some things to repair and I tried to repair twice just to make sure it didn't miss anything) but it still won't load. It says its starting the OX system, but when the blue bar reaches the end, it doesn't do anything from there. I also left it on for hours and it did nothing. My mousepad still lets me move around the mouse, the caps lock key still lights up, as the num lock key. I tried safe mode but that won't load either...any other suggestions?

Your iBook needs to go in for repairs.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out. If Safe Mode doesn't work for you, post back and we will explore other options.

  • Help! Laptop won't start up- startup repair goes to black screen!

Hi! Just wondering if anyone can help me with my toshiba laptop C650-152! I was online yesterday when my laptop froze and in the end i had to turn it off by cutting the power source! Today I have tried to turn it on and It keeps going to a black screen with white writing which asks if I want to Start it normally or do startup repair! If I press start normally it gets me to the windows start up screen (with the coloured logo) but then gets stuck there. If i press start up repair it goes to a black screen with a White mouse cursor and gets stuck there too! I can use a laptop just fine but am pretty clueless when it comes to technical matters so if anyone could help explain what I should do (in laymens terms) it would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance for your help! Beth

To burn the disc from an ISO file, Beth, you may need a third-party utility depending on the version of Windows. I use the free BurnCDCC burning program from here.
       TeraByte Unlimited Freeware
To use the disc do I just turn my laptop on..?
Something like this. Turn the computer on, load the disc, turn the computer off, start it again and then press F12 to get the boot-priority men, select the optical drive, follow the instructions (like choose a language and a Windows installation), and you're on your way to the Windows Recovery Environment.
Then will a menu appear so I can choose to do a system restore or do I have to search for it? Finally will doing a 'system restore' delete any of my saved data such as photos/music/uni work?
All that was answered at the link I already gave you.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
Click Show All. Under System Restore, click the links What is System Restore and System Restore: frequently asked questions. No data files are disturbed by System Restore.

  • Safari won't load after 10.3.9 re-install

    Here is my history:
-Tried to update OSX10.3.9 with combo download
-Upon re-start machine gets stuck in start up during boot, stuck on blue screen
-then re-start with software install & restore DVD
-go to disk utility, perform Repair Disk in First Aid
-result:diagnosis 'volume header needs minor repair' then 'volume repaired'
-First Aid done it's job I think, on re-start same problem though, stuck during boot.
-Re-boot again with DVD disk, this time perform re-install 10.3.9 archiving all.
-Great, machine starts but Safari won't load.
    - I look for /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Webkit as advised on old post on this forum.
    - I can't find it on updated system, however it is in my 'Previous System' Folder, I try to copy it over but won't let me because 'frameworks cannot be modified'
Any advise out there about getting Safari started again, I'm dying here without it, got all my links there. Every other programs works fine. Heard something about 'double boot', should I have changed some settings before re-install? Can some one guide me here. Had this baby 3 years, no system problems ever, should never have tried to update, feels like I'm in PC-land arrrr...
    Any help hugely appreciated!!!
    powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Strange the computer hung during the upgrade. Never a good sign. While the computer was upgrading, were you using it for any other task? Was their a power interruption?
When you ran disk repair from Disk Utility, did you rerun the repair function until it showed no errors. If not, do this step again, then on the restart to your main system, repair permissions using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
If still no cooperation from Safari, have a look here for guidance regarding a Safari reinstall in Panther. Ignore the 10.4.4 update suggestion. In addition to the various suggestions, make sure you remove Safari from your Applications folder, putting it in the trash.
The installer will download an earlier version of Safari. Once installed, you'll need to upgrade to the final version - 1.3.2. To do so, first install Safari 1.3.1. Then, install Safari 1.3.2. Once complete, "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    Post back with results.

  • Safari won't load after latest software update

After the latest software update from Apple, Safari won't load. I've deleted the p.list and run OnyX to clean the system. It still won't load. This is a pain as Safari is my default browser and I have to get into Safari to change that. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?
    Thanks!

    Welcome Pauline;
Actually you can change your default browser from within Mail, just go to Mail preferences and set the default browser to whatever you want. Unless you have cloned your system (before the update)which I heartily recommend,
you may have to use Pacifist to extract Safari from
    the 10.4 installation package.
    Hope this helps,

  • Windows 7 will no longer load after Apple repair

I recently had my computer repaired through AppleCare.  They replaced the logic board, top cover, a connector and battery.  When I first got the computer back, I turned it on, booted to the Mac partition, everything was good.  I then booted to Windows with the Bootcamp partition and everything was good.  Even the stuff I had open before the damage were still up.  I shut it down, boxed everything up and didn't touch it until I got home.
When I got home, I booted up Windows 7 and now all I get is it boots to a black screen with the cursor.  I ran the repair utility, tried safe mode and it says no errors are found, however, it still won't load.  I haven't figured out why it booted up the first time I got the computer back but now it won't do anything.  I never got a chance to back everything up because my computer was damaged from liquid damage, but I can still see all the files on my Bootcamp partition through finder from the Mac side.
I don't know exactly why it's doing this or what to search to find an answer to the problem.  When I first got my MBP, I installed Windows 7 through and upgrade disc from my job, so I don't know what my next steps should be.  Sorry for the length, just trying to get this problem resolved.  Any thoughts?

  • CFB won't load after update 1

I'm running CFB plugin on Eclipse 3.5.1 on Win 7 x64. I purchased CFB right after update 1 came out, restarted eclipse, entered my key, updated the software, restarted eclipse using the -clean option, and everything worked great. I've been using it for the past week. However, I just restarted eclipse for the first time since I've updated, and it won't load CFB. I get the following error:
Could not open the editor: No editor descriptor for id com.adobe.ide.editor.CFMLEditor

    Please help!!!

To fix this, I launched eclipse again with the -clean option. CFB asked me to enter a key (which I already had done before I applied update 1). I entered the key again and CFB loaded.
I had already run eclipse with the -clean option after installing CFB update 1. I double checked to make sure I didn't have to do this each time I restarted eclipse - I quit eclipse and launched it again, and CFB loaded. Everything seems to be working okay now.
