System wont reboot to dvd device

Hello All,
I recently bought an HP Envy Desktop cpu with Windoze on it.  It came with a 2TB DD as default, I also added
2 1TB disk drives.  I want 1 TB from the 2TB drive to be the windows that came with the cpu. The second 1TB part of the partion I want to install Linux for a dual boot situation.
My problem is I have a boot disk with the .iso on it already.  I put it into the DVD and rebooted and hit F10 to make sure the boot sequence was pointing to the DVD first.  Then I completed booting and the dvd was
BYPASSED!  WTFO?
HELP! Does anyone have any idean on how to make this happen. Thank you for any and all your help.

Hi Jaco,
Thank you for writing to me with these following Instructions:
Please create an HP recovery disk set/USB recovery drive before modifying your PC. Backup important data to an external drive.
You may have to disable secure boot and enable legacy boot in BIOS (setup).
Windows 8 instructions can be found here.
Reboot system with DVD inserted in the disk drive. Tap the Escape key and select Boot Menu.
Select DVD if listed under UEFI devices or SATA2 under legacy devices.
Your PC should now boot to the install DVD
STATUS:
I HAD already disalbed the secure boot condition.  I also beleive I have turned the UEFI into a DISABLE condition.  I then rebooted, hit the ESC button and the boot menu popped up. I moved the > arrow button
down to the legacy boot area to the DVD option.  I then hit the Enter button to reboot.
The computer did a reboot and went straight back to the normal boot screen!
Could use more instructions and help. But thank you very much for your support if that is all you have.

  • Imac froze then wont reboot.

My imac froze whilst my iphone was syncing.
It wont boot up past the apple and spinning circle logo.
I have left this for 15 mins and it still wont reboot.
I managed to get the install disc in and use the disk utility.
It gave me the following messages.
    Incorrect number of thread records.
    Invalid leaf record count
(it should be 2001211 instead of 2001210)
    Invalid volume free block count
(it should be 29872332 instead of 29872331)
It is now repairing the volume.
How long should this take and is there anything else I need to do so the mac will boot up ?

If it was me, before doing a full re-install, I would use a cloning utility (Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper) to duplicate the internal drive to the external drive. Then try booting from the external drive by setting it as the startup volume in System Preferences +Startup Disk+ pane. This is a test to make sure it works and everything (especially your personal data) is there, like your internal drive.
If it runs smoothly (may feel a bit slower if that external is a USB drive) and those issues do not recur, the system may be fine. You can then use Disk Utility Erase tab to erase (reformat) the internal drive (be sure to select the internal DRIVE and not the volume indented below the drive in the Disk Utility sidebar). Then clone the external drive back it the internal drive. The reformat will get rid of the disk directory corruption error, so hopefully your previous system will work fine.
If the error caused problems with the system files (similar problems recur when booted from the external clone), you can do a full Mac OS X re-install on a freshly erased internal drive, then migrate your personal data from the clone on the external drive. In either case, the first step is to duplicate your internal drive to the external drive. The easiest way is to use one of those cloning utilities.
It is possible that there is a hardware problem with the drive. In most cases, the reformat will get rid of the problem, if it just corruption to the disk directory. You should monitor closely for a few weeks, because if the hard drive is starting to fail, a similar problem might happen again.

  • New system wont load WIN XP Pro

    Hi all,
Thanks for all of your help (see last post). I finally got my box together. The problem I have is that I cant get WIN XP Pro to install. It starts the set up and then loads a but load of drivers... then says starting Windows Setup at the bottom right of the screen. Is there something special I need to do?

    Hi,
I have a K7N420D Pro Mobo and I had a similar problem. There were two issues:
    1. I have a PCI RAID controller (add-in card).
    2. I plugged my cable modem into my board's ethernet
controller (I was hoping for XP to auto detect).
I tried to install XP on a number of occasions but it failed each time - I removed both of the above and it installed first time.
I suppose it would be a good idea to keep your Mobo peripherals to a bare minimum whilst installing XP. Install your cards/peripherals once you have XP installed.
As to your Mem and FSB problem - I've no doubt spomeone'll be along in a minute......

  • Ipad wont reboot & my sleep or lock button doesn't work??

I updated ios 7 on my ipad just yesterday. After a while I used it, then my ipad kept popping out shut down mode, and lock the screen randomly.
I tried to reboot it, my screen kept locking randomly. I tried to reboot it for three times, and for the third time, my ipad wouldn't boot up.
I connected my ipad to itunes and tried to restore my ipad.
The screen now has quitted to lock randomly. But I found out that my lock button doesn't work anymore. And the next thing I did was to reboot my ipad by pressing the sleep/lock and home button at the same time, hoping that my lock button would work again, and suddenly my ipad showed apple logo frequently without showing progress bar. And the last thing I do now is to connect my device to itunes, and it is now back on. But the lock/sleep button still not working. And I think that if I reboot my ipad again, it will give me the same problem as it wont reboot itself unless i connect it to itunes.
Please help me regarding this troubleshooting... My ipad was perfectly fine. Thanks in advance!

  • Where can I find drivers for dvd device?

    Hi guys,
Hi want to install Windows 7 but when I am running setup windows asks for drivers for dvd device.
Where can I find these drivers or how can I install windows 7?
I know hp does not support serie tx1000 in windows 7 but I have seen people who installed that OS.
    any help will be usefull
    thanks!

I just got off the phone with a new case manager named Jamie 1-877-917-4380 ext 93 regarding new case number 7501359724, and of course just what I expected he would say, HP has no known issue with the tx series and no issue with the Nvidia 6150 chip.  He said that its just a coincidence that 1000's and 1000's of owners have experienced overheating motherboards.  That despite the same symptoms of other hp laptops and their recall proceding a huge lawsuit with Nvidia admitting they had sold hp defective chips, the tx/ 6150 nvidia was not one of the defective chips.  After reading the lawsuit details I found that Nvidia never released a list of the exact defective chips just that there were some, and then settled with hp.  Hp for some reason or another made a list of the so called defective ones and left many of the additional defective ones including the tx series/ Nvidia 6 series chips off the list.  Maybe there are not as many of us that own it, so as a business move they felt they could get away with this, or maybe because the failure typically hits a month or two after warranty expires.  I even looked up the chip by itself and found that the same Nvidia 6150 chip was used in certain Dell notebooks and had an issued recall relating to its defect.  Yet Jamie from Hp clearly stated that there is no known defect and that I would need to pay 400.00 USD and get the mother board replaced. I told him that I wasn't going to do that, why would I spend 400 dollars to have a new defective mother board intsalled to fail again.  He assured me that it wouldn't be an issue because the new mother boards have a different set of chips due to the issue with the old chip.  What is that about?  Does he think I am stupid, they say there is no defect in that chip, so they wont take responsability but they admit there is an issue with the chip, what is the difference?  They change the word defect with issue and that excuses them from any liability in providing a product capable of delivering expectations and quality of its class.  I personally wont settle for this. I wont settle for less than a refund or a new equall value notebook free from defect with an extended warranty.  To all of you others with this model of notebook i suggest you do the same, don't give up on your right to defend your hard earned money.  Look up Nvidia 6 series chips and you will find many companies that have disclosed its defect and taken responsability to their product owners.  Hp needs to do the same. Shame on HP  I had to edit this because they keep deleting my posts to cover up there secret, you can try and follow the trouble shooting tips, but it wont work, the graphics card has burned up and is killing your mother board.  A company invested a lot of money only to realize they can either lose a lot more money or they can brush it under the rug at the expense of their customers, and so they try to sustain profitability, by hiding the truth.  I suggest you buy a msi netbook, it has no frills but I promiss it will last, msi knows how to make a strong motherboard and stand by their products, no use in buying a fancy computer when it will only tease you with 13mons of life.  I am sorry that myself and all of you put your hard money and trust into a product that was probably knowingly doomed before it was even sold to us. Just remember that in this economy even a large company that you think you can trust can't be trusted, MONEY trumps the consumer!!

  • After Kernel-Patch 139556-08 System wont come up

    Hello...
Yesterday I installed KernelPatch 139556-08 (x86-64bit s10x_u6wos_07b ) in multiusermode on a Virtual machine installed on a Vmware ESX 3.5 machine.
After rebooting the System wont come up - only in failsafe 32 bit mode - Mounting the ZFS Systempool under /a is working too. The System crashes with a dump -
starting with errormessages "rootnex ....undefined iommulib".
Any chances to recover my System without a backup ?

I made the same mistake using the recommended patchset from 13/8. On 30 systems the patch set went in fine
in full user mode. Then I thought that it should be save to apply to my latest server, which I installed using a zfs

So the patch did not apply. However on re reboot the system went into single user
mode with error messages on cpu cpupm etc.
I then rebooted and went into fail safe and did an auto update. After that the system
crashes on a full boot up, but I can still gotinto failsafe.
I have got no copy of the patch on the system so I am somewhat "stuffed".
This is the second time a recommended patchset ruined one of my main file servers
and previously I installed it single user mode.
Any idea how I can get out of this mess short of re-installing.
Considering that the problem was reported way back in May should such an important
issue not have been seen and remedied before?

  • T520 will not use any DVD Device

    Folks,
I was going to do a backup, when I noticed the DVD player was no longer showing under My Computer.
I when into the device manager, where it showed with a yellow X .. I tried updating the device driver, it said I already had the correct device. I did several other things - nothing worked.
I really wanted to get the backup done, so I took my portable DVD player/writer and connected it. The laptop found a device loaded OK ... but it did not show up under My Computer. I was the same issue as the internal DVD player.
Then I took a USB external Passport drive, connected to the same USB port, no issues .. It mounted the drive and I performed the backup.
My T520 will not use any DVD device ... any Ideas ?

True, somehow this area goes south now and then. Last time I used it was on an old XT system of someone. He had some techs try to fix his machine and couldn't. I had it working in half an hour altering the keys. LOL

I guess we'll assume those links provide "clean" install images.
Do you still have the original Win 7 installed on your machine?  If so there's a utility there (Rescue and Recovery) that can be used to burn your own Lenovo factory recovery media set.  That's how they get away with not shipping media with the machine.
Are you trying to move from 32 to 64 bits?  That's a different deal.  Maybe find a friend with a MS install DVD?

  • System cannot reboot

    hi,
it has been more than one years that my archlinux system cannot reboot(HP laptop nx6110, intel i686).
with the help of  these two links
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=124136
    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37712
i know that i should change a parameter ".callback = set_bios_reboot" in the kernel.
but i still have several questions
    1) is it a bug? if so, why it is still not fixed.
    2) are those patches from above links out of date?
    3) could someone teach me or give me some links about how to make such patch? because i think this probelm will be not fixed in the next version of kernel, and i will meet some situation after the new kernel update.
    thanks for your help.

during a update of apple my iphone 3GS crashed an now the operating system wont load up..ive tried to reset the phone to the factory settings using itunes it took 4 hours and completed but my phone still wont come on..what can i do to fix the problem? please help #

In trying to include what information all that I could I should have specified I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WAS DEFINATELY JAILBROKEN when I took it to the apple store they told me there's no way for them to tell if it was jail broken or not. I'm only going by what ppl have told me COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE PHONE. With that said the only thing I know for sure is that the apple tech at the Genius Bar told me that someone took control of my root menu in February & I've had no control of my phone since. I asked him how to regain control & how he knew his exact words were "oh that is out of our scope of capabilities here at this level & you would need an apple engineer to fix it". I said ok then how do I get an apple eng then? He laughed & said you can't!!!! To which I was furious I came home & called apple requesting to speak w/the fraud dept to file a report they said we don't have a fraud dept!! So after a 45 mn phone call again I left w/no answers.
    @TJBUSMC1973-
I DON'T HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO SPEND HIRING AN ATTORNEY & Although I appreciate your suggestion I fail to how an attorney would be able to facilitate in any way since there's no suspect. I cannot prove that it's him doing it so I certainly can't pursue legal action w/no proof & no money. :'((
Again I thank you for your advice but I don't think that will help.
I was looking more for a TECHNICAL way to avoid this happening w/a new phone should I buy one or trying to get them out of my phone now! Such as installing some kind of software protection?? Someway to clear out the entire phone (other than factory reset which was done 10 x's w/no success, etc. if this person got in then there HAS TO BE A WAY OF GETTING HIM OUT, right????

  • Hyper-V 2012 Gen 2 VM SCSI DVD device fails to boot from iso files

I am running Server 2012 R2 in Hyper-V Server role for my home lab. I am trying to create a gen 2 vm, with Server 2012 R2 iso loaded in the SCSI DVD device, but every time I try to start the vm it fails to start with the following error:
This is the current settings for the vm:
This error occurs with any iso file loaded into the SCSI DVD device, and the error occurs even if creating a new vm from scratch. I have seen several similar gen 2 vm boot issues posted, but none with the exact issue that I'm having. The iso files all
work fine when creating a gen 1 vm.

    Hi Kaedron,
Maybe the UEFI files is broken and you need to download a new ISO to retry .
Here is a download link for windows server 2012 R2 evaluation :
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dn205286.aspx
    Hope this helps
