SystemCopy DB2 LUW without sapinst ?

Hi,
it is possible to perform a systemcopy [ database - db6 ] without installing sap/using sapinst ?
With Oracle it is possible - sure you have to do some work after the restore -
So I couldn't find any useful hint to perform a systemcopy without usage of sapinst...
can anybody help me?

Thanks a lot for your answer.
@Paul:
R3LOAD is not our favourit so the system copy should be performed via redirect restore.
"628156 DB6: Cross-Platform System Copy using Backup/Restore" - did not solved my problem / I've to perform this system copy with sapinst too - see below:
2. Start a regular homogenenous system copy on the target system using R3SETUP or SAPINST as described in the respective homogeneous system copy guide (depending on your SAP release).
"511323 DB6: brdb6brt -Installing the latest redirected restore tool"
"867914 DB6: brdb6brt - Latest patch (currently 24)"
=> I don't understand how this tool could help me? By the way - it's already in use
"Chapter 9 of the Administration Guide:
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f03d5fb8-b619-2b10-c383-c6d56872829e?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true"
Nice to know - really good but not really usable for this issue.
If I'll perform a redirect restore I have this to do in the way of the "normal" system copy - so start sapinst => [ sapinst will install the database ] and perform the redirect restore
"http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/0308nesiem/0308nesiem.html"
I have read this article... not helpful
"You may also be interested in db2inidb
See note 594301" => interesting note - to speed up the backup procedure!
If you use Oracle - system copy - briefly:
1) source sap system - create restore script
2) target system - shutdown sap/oracle
3) tsm - target system should connect to source tsm [ to get the right backup ]
4) restore - without sapinst
5) create db-user/rights
6) start sap system + sm59, sm28 and so on
I don't have seen this for a db2 luw database ...
here I have to use sapinst -  before I execute step 1)
thanks in advance for your help.

  • System copy optimzation of import on DB2 LUW

I am looking for system copy optimzation of import on DB2 LUW. R3load version is 640.
IBM redbook (sg247774 DB2 Optimization Techniques for SAP Database Migration and Unicode Conversion) gives some general recommendations:
    1) Use the DB2 LOAD API with default settings for R3load.
    2) Create primary and secondary indexes before you load data.
    3) Specify enough utility heap to ensure parallelism of the DB2 LOAD API. use 200,000 as a starter.
    4) Others..........
    I've got some questions:
    1) "-loadproceduce fast LOAD" suitable for all packages? How can we know whether R3load call DB2 load API even we specify this parameter?
    I've tried both below:
select tabschema, tabname from SYSIBMADM.ADMINTABINFO where load_status = 'PENDING'
    list utilities show detail
    But nothing shown.
    2) Change the 1st & 2nd line of DDL<DB>.TPL from after to before?
    3) We need change the DB paramenter, but sapinst will run automatically to trigger R3load. How can we stop sapinst temporary and change those setting before R3load?
    Thanks,
    James

    Dear Hans-Juergen,
Your explain is more clear than SAP note and IBM redbook. If you are not the author of the note and redbook, what I want to say is those authors should be fired :-).
For both V9.1 and V9.5(and above), load in conjunction with compress can be implemented, the prerequisite is creat/alter to table to compress mode. That is easy to understand.
For V9.1, LOAD option will not force DB2 to create compress dictionary, so we must use LOADCOMPRESS, DB6LOAD_COMPRESSION_THRESHOLD defines the sample number of rows to create the dictionary.
For V9.5(and above), ADC is introducted. The default LOAD (can be used in 640 & 700) will trigger compress dictionary creation automatically.
In R3load 640, LOADCOMPRESS is suitable for V9.1 and LOAD (if table is created in compress mode in advance) is suitable for V9.5(and above).
In R3load 700 (and above), note 1058437 gives a detail explain. Actaully, this note is out of date as it says "LOAD As before", my understanding is that it is for DB2 LUW V9.1. For V9.5, it functions as LOAD+ADC if table compression is enabled. R3load 700 gives some more options such as "Uncompress load + subsequent compmression", "Load + ADC", "Compress load based on sampling" for compression.
    So question 9:
It is clear there is nothing to do with R3load version, it is just DB version related. Can R3laod 640 use above options designed for 700? Or note 1058437 apply for 640? Why SAP+IBM design R3load 640 and 700 into 2 different ways?
R3load 640 can work with V9.5 directly and it is also supported in service.sap.com/PAM list.
Question 10:  In readbook, it says "ADC creates a compression dictionary automatically when the following conditions apply"
COMPRESS flag is enabled for the table.
No compression dictionary exists for the table.
The table contains a sufficient amount of data.
Then I want to create all packages/tables with compress mode, db2 will compress table for big tables (a sufficient amount of data) and will not create compress dictionary for small tables. Suppose there are 40,000 tables, 2M/table for dictionary, that is 80G in total, not a burden for big system at all. Is this a crazy idea? What is the best practice, just for big tables?
    Thanks,
    James

  • Linux Testdrive SAP NetWeaver 7.02 on DB2 LUW now available in SAP Shop

You can find the DB6 based NW7.02 (SP09) Testdrive in www.sap.com/shop -> Knowledge Shop -> Documentation -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver, material number is 50108304. Don't let yourself get fooled by the currently misleading description, 50108304 is the DB2 LUW based version. I will have that corrected. If you don't have a 64bit Linux system,  you can download SLES11 VM at http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=x1e9uCQ4074~ run the virtual machine, e. g., with VMware Player.

  • Downtime for Heterogeneous System Copy Export of Source DB2 LUW

    Hello,
What is the downtime required for a heterogeneous system copy export of a source database on AIX with DB2 LUW?  Here are the following details of the data itself:
DB size: 120 GB used of 240 GB.
    Physical server: IBM Power5 quad-core 1.65GHz virtualized
    RAM: 9.5GB

    > What is the downtime required for a heterogeneous system copy export of a source database on AIX with DB2 LUW?  Here are the following details of the data itself:
I suggest you just "try it out" as a test run. It's quite impossible to give estimates based on database sizes. It's possible to migrate roughly 1 TB/hour with appropriate hardware, mostly your harddisks will be the bottleneck.
There are also a number of other factors like number of R3load processes, table splitting or not, parallel export/import etc.
I highly suggest to run the migration a few times before you do the "live" migration.

    Hi Jin-Chong
many thanks for you help. But the problem still persists.
    1. We don't have $ODBCINI. There are no conection issues at all. Connection is performed by IBM Data Server Client (db2client) db2 connect to ...
    2. For which stored procedures do we need to apply these Grants?  We manually exported the available historical data from the TrendingDB to CSV files, connected to the database server with db2 connect... (on the app server), imported these CSV with the same user, it all went smoothly. We granted some DML's to the database user. also granted DBADM and SECADM to the database user as well, just to be sure there are no permission issues.
The Error message seems to indicate There is a problem finding the correct driver for monitoring database, since it says,
          networkLayer    "ODBC"
            DBMS    "DB2"
    com.sap.connectivity.cs.core.CSError: Specified RDBMS is invalid : DB2.
    - Maby IBM Data Server Client (db2client) is not supported for monitoring database at all?
    - Do we have to install additional DB2 clients like DB2 CLI driver or ODBC client instead?
    Thanks in advance

  • How to make SAP Instance on Windows without SAPinst (manually)

    Dear colleagues!
On unix platform It's usually more convenient for me to make an additional sap instance by manually copying of sapmnt, usr and a couple of others folders, making links, editing /etc/services. It's faster than running SAPINST (for me).
So the question is - how and what should I perform for making an instance, central instance as well on WINDOWS platform.
    with best regards,
    Vladimir

    Hi,
It is not recommended way to install SAP System without following Standard Installation Method. Please read concerned Official SAP Installation Guide and follow the standard procedure without inviting more complexities and headache.

  • Import without SAPinst

    Hi,
we would like to copy our BW (a NW 7.0 system on Oracle) from production to test as export/import method because we also need a db reorganization (in production we have delete several records). So in test system we would like only to delete database (so we leave sap bin file, rdbms bin file, ecc.). If we use SAPinst as system copy SAPinst woluld install the system from scratch... so is it possibile create database and load/import data? without a complete re-installation?
    Regards.

    Not in an "easy" way.
To preserve all your settings try the following:
    - rename /usr/sap/<SID> to something else
    - delete the target database and copy the database configuration to a safe place ($ORACLE_HOME/dbs/*, listener.ora, sqlnet.ora etc.)
    - start sapinst and select to "start migration monitor manually"
    - go on with the copy until sapinst stops and requests you to set up the migration monitor
    - now rename the "new" /usr/sap/<SID> to something else and rename back your old /usr/sap/<SID>
    - put back the init<SID>.ora, listener.ora and sqlnet.ora
    - restart the database
    - now configure the migration monitor and start the import

  • Transaction Help ? JMS and db2 database without appserver

We have a Queue and db2 database.
need to read the message from queue and write it to the database in a standalone application without appserver. Now question is how to have a single transaction for both the jobs?
    Please advice!!!

If you want to receive a JMS message and write to a database in the same transaction, then it sounds as if you are asking for the ability to enlist both transactional resources within the same XA transaction and then perform a two-phase commit of the two resources. If you use an application server then this is easy to configure.
Even if you don't want to use an application server (or some other container offering similar services), you will still need a transaction manager, but will need to enlist the transactional resources yourself. Possible but not easy. If an application server is too heavyweight, then look for lighter-weight alternatives.

    Hi Linda,
    did you try to google?

  • Executing DB2 API (without JDBC)

I'm trying to call a DB2 API (e.g. sqlbgtss) from a Java program. I do not want to use JDBC.
    Can someone help me?

You probably have to write your own bridge in JNI then.

  • DB2 LUW 9.5

Note 1079000 has a table at the very end of the note that lists SP Patch Levels for SAP KERNEL. Are the levels listed requirements for a migration to DB2 9.5?
    Thanks.

    Gary,
Yes. View these as minimum path levels. Be especially careful of the DB specific components. A better recommendation would be to download the latest kernel patch levels for your OS/DB. You should have these in place before beginning the migration to 9.5.
    Good luck,
    Cheers,

    Am i missing something?
Data in referred tables (infocubes) isn't really important.
Is there a safe way to proceed?
    Thanks in advance.

And this is the strange point: my source system is not a BI and my dataclasses .SQL files are not empty.
Me too i would expect that the files should be empty but instead they are full of object definitions.
For example i have APPL0.SQL that contains a list of all tables of ECC system, for example
    tab: MAMT
    sql:     CREATE TABLE "MAMT"
            ("MANDT" SAPDB6VARCHAR(000003)
            DEFAULT '000' NOT NULL,
            "MATNR" SAPDB6VARCHAR(000018)
            DEFAULT ' ' NOT NULL,
            "SPRAS" SAPDB6VARCHAR(000001)
            DEFAULT ' ' NOT NULL,
            "MEINH" SAPDB6VARCHAR(000003)
            DEFAULT ' ' NOT NULL,
            "MTXID" SAPDB6VARCHAR(000002)
            DEFAULT ' ' NOT NULL,
            "LFDNR" SAPDB6VARCHAR(000002)
            DEFAULT '00' NOT NULL,
            "MAKTM" SAPDB6VARCHAR(000040)
            DEFAULT ' ' NOT NULL)
            IN "&location&"
            INDEX IN "&locationI&"
            LONG  IN "&locationL&"
          COMPRESS YES;
          ALTER TABLE "MAMT" LOCKSIZE ROW;
and like this for all others tables.
What would occur if i launch an import with such .SQL files?
(shuld i put this question to another thread or is fine for you to answer on this?)
    Thank you again.
