[systemd] status of netfs daemon?

Hi,
What is the equivalent of the netfs daemon in systemd? It is in initscripts and is required for NFS, but there is no netfs.service in Arch. Furthermore, netfs.service is mentioned in the systemd wiki page, so if it has been deprecated or replaced, I would like to correct the wiki.
thanks!

OK, many thanks, that is clear. So it is kind of "deprecated" when using systemd.
I'll remove netfs.service from the wiki then.

  • Systemd: run cloudprint.py daemon

    Hi!
    I tried to use cloudprint.py to use Google cloudprint with my USB printers. Running it as user and root is working fine ("normal" and daemon mode). The problems started, when I tried to create a systemd service file, to start it automatically at boot.
    Here is the service file I came up with
    [Unit]
    Description=Google Cloudprint
    Requires=cups.service
    After=cups.service network.target
    [Service]
    User=root
    Type=forking
    PIDFile=/var/run/cloudprint.pid
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/python2 /usr/bin/cloudprint -d -p /var/run/cloudprint.pid
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    The first problem was that the daemonized app still wanted to write to /dev/tty. I changed the paths for stdout/stderr to /dev/null and got daemon mode working.
    Authentication/login and printer update is working fine, but after some time the service gets terminated by systemd ("operation timed out"). If I start the script manually (without systemd) it keeps running, but if I start it using systemd it is terminated after about one minute.

    I could not get any other information on what could trigger the error. As far as I have seen no exception gets thrown and systemd terminates the process.
    The script is using python-daemon (DaemonRunner). Could this cause problems in combination with systemd or the pid-file? I am not very experienced with troubleshooting systemd services or python daemons
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Edit: If I choose "oneshot" instead of "forking" it works, but I'm not sure if this is just a hacky way to get it running or if this is ok?
    thx!

    I just tried this command (after i did a disable)

    yes, I got GDM working - with trouble! (systemd didn't work as expected either)

    I did. Sorry!
    Still httpd is not running ..

  • Systemd: shutdown hangs without daemon-reload

    I've recently encountered this problem since I've moved arch over to an SSD. I'm not sure if this is directly related though. I've implemented a user session as per the systemd/user wiki page. The logs suggest that all of my system and session services seem to stop correctly except for the user-session service. I get a message on shutdown which is something like "a stop job is running for [email protected]". Running systemctl daemon-reload before shutdown fixes this for some reason, even when I haven't edited any of the units. The systemctl -a output is the same before and after the reload, so I don't know how to find out what it is actually doing to fix this. Is there any way to find out what this changes in order to diagnose the problem?

    I have the same problem using systemd user sessions on two separate computers, one without an SSD.
    `systemctl daemon-reload` also fixes this for me.

  • Mail status-reports from daemon fails

    Hi all,
    I'm using a daily backup-script «Backup-Bisang.sh» controlled by launchd:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.bisang.backup-daily</string>
    <key>Program</key>
    <string>/opt/local/sbin/Backup-Bisang.sh</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>/opt/local/sbin/Backup-Bisang.sh</string>
    </array>
    <key>ServiceDescription</key>
    <string>Daily backup from server</string>
    <key>StartCalendarInterval</key>
    <dict>
    <key>Hour</key>
    <integer>16</integer>

    <integer>25</integer>
    </dict>
    <key>UserName</key>
    <string>ruedibis</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    The script itself should email me a status-report:
    rsync $MY_OPTIONS >> /tmp/backupscripttmpfile
    Mailx -s "Backup Report `date "+%d.%m.%y %H:%M:%S"`" $MAILADDR </tmp/backupscripttmpfile
    This works fine, if I test the script via terminal (all report data in the message body). If the script executes via launchd (as daemon), an email is sent, but with an empty body! Although the backupscripttmpfile is correct. What may cause this strange behavior?

    If I pipe my tmp_file like this:
    cat /tmp/backupscripttmpfile | Mailx -s "Backup Report `date "+%d.%m.%y %H:%M:%S"`" $MAILADDR
    then it works fine. Why?

  • Systemd and nfs-common ?

    My nfs-client setup takes 62s to mount a nfsv4 share. I've tried to solve this by creating an own systemd nfs-common.service but it fails. It doesn't see rpcbind as started, which it is. I've googled high and low for a systemd *.service that works but haven't any nfs-common.service file at all.
    I have ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/nfs-common start in my .service file and it is enabled but status message is;
    nfs-common.service - nfs-common
    Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/nfs-common.service; enabled)

    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/nfs-common.service
    sudo /etc/rc.d/nfs-common start gives;

    Same as in journal systemd-journalctl | grep -i nfs;

    May 19 12:14:11 mediadatorn nfs-common[227]: Start rpcbind first. [FAIL]
    All this came about since I started trying to optimize systemd. Before today, when I tried to disable all legacy arch units, I had the nfs client running ok. I did this after reading falconindys tip in the big systemd thread. By the way, that thread is so big it has become nearly useless.
    Boot up times:
    systemd-analyze
    Startup finished in 13269ms (kernel) + 94810ms (userspace) = 108080ms

    2) reboot
    3) copy /run/systemd/generator/arch-daemons.target.wants/*.service to /etc/systemd/system for anything where a native unit file doesn't exist

    6) disable arch-daemons.target

    (finally found it)
    Right now I'm trying to reverse it and start over.
    I tried this, and immediately didn't get it to mount.  I restarted rpcbind (supposedly already running) and nfs-common and I think it still stalled on mounting, but now I that I've been away from it, it finally did mount.

  • Trying to setup systemd user instance

    Hi guys!
    For the past few days I have been trying to setup systemd to run a user instance (user is 'hans'). Sadly, I have been unable to find a lot of detail in doing this, so much of my work has been trial and error. Just recently I learned about the [email protected] and also about loginctl enable-linger. However to what degree they are related to setting up a user instance, I do not know. I set the user 'hans' to 'linger' using the loginctl enable-linger hans command, however I think I might have misunderstood the significance of the command in relation to what I am trying to do.
    What I want to for user 'hans' to have his own service file, i.e. irssi.service, and start/stop/enable/disable/etc that service independently of the system. I realize that I could use sudo and configure it to only allow certain commands, and more than that have individual 'system' services for each user, i.e. hansirssi.service, janeirssi.service, joeirssi.service, etc., but I don't want to have to do that unless there is no other option.
    So Question 1:
    Is it possible to setup up systemd user instances as I envision it? Or have I misunderstood something?
    My system:
    [root@ru ~]# uname -a
    Linux ru 3.5.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 15 08:12:04 CEST 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    The system is installed in a Proxmox virtual machine with a virtio virtual HDD and standard setup. It is a headless system. I have a complete systemd conversion as per the wiki plus polkit 0.107-2 for use with 'loginctl'.
    I tried:
    [root@ru ~]$ systemctl enable [email protected]
    The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl.
    [root@ru ~]$ systemctl start [email protected]
    [root@ru ~]# systemctl status [email protected]
    [email protected] - User Manager for hans
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]; static)
    Active: active (running) since Fri, 21 Sep 2012 18:33:07 +0100; 42min ago
    Main PID: 23189 (systemd)
    Status: "Startup finished in 822us."
    CGroup: name=systemd:/user/hans/shared
    â 23190 (sd-pam)
    â systemd-23189
    â 23189 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd --user
    And on the user account hans I confirm that the service is running:
    [hans@ru ~]$ systemctl status [email protected]
    [email protected] - User Manager for hans
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]; static)
    Active: active (running) since Fri, 21 Sep 2012 18:33:07 +0100; 13s ago
    Main PID: 23189 (systemd)
    Status: "Startup finished in 822us."
    CGroup: name=systemd:/user/hans/shared
    â 23190 (sd-pam)
    â systemd-23189
    â 23189 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd --user
    But in regard to actually starting/stopping/enabling a user specific service, I keep getting this error:
    [hans@ru ~]$ systemctl start dummyservice.service
    Failed to issue method call: Access denied
    and when I try by accessing the 'user' instance, I get the following error:
    [hans@ru ~]$ systemctl --user
    Failed to get D-Bus connection: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11
    The thing is that dbus is running:

    Question 2:
    Why would dbus reject the 'messages', is there something I need to configure (permissions,...?) in order to get this to work?

    I just went through the install process, read through the user-session-units doc, I was finally able to get the user instance working, no Dbus errors . However I decided to make sure and run 'dbus-monitor' within the user 'hans' and I got the following error message:
    Failed to open private bus connection: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/1000/dbus/user_bus_socket: No such file or directory
    I checked and there is no such file, however I checked the dbus.socket:
    [root@ru user]# cat /usr/lib/systemd/user/dbus.socket
    [Unit]
    Description=D-Bus System Message Bus Socket
    [Socket]
    ListenStream=%t/dbus/user_bus_socket
    And dbus.service:
    [root@ru user]# dbus-monitor
    Failed to open connection to session bus: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11
    [root@ru user]# cat /usr/lib/systemd/user/dbus.service
    [Unit]
    Description=D-Bus System Message Bus
    Requires=dbus.socket
    [Service]
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/dbus-daemon --session --address=systemd: --nofork --systemd-activation
    ExecReload=/usr/bin/dbus-send --print-reply --session --type=method_call --dest=org.freedesktop.DBus / org.freedesktop.DBus.ReloadConfig
    and as far as I can tell everything see alright there.
    EDIT#1:
    I just restarted the system to see if my symlink worked for the user-session service. It did, sort of, however the following error occured during boot:
    Sep 21 22:15:14 ru systemd[307]: Failed to open private bus connection: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/1000/dbus/user_bus_socket: No such file or directory

  • Daemon requires root privileges (failing to execute on startup)

    Greetings,
    I am trying to get this daemon to run on startup. Systemd loads it successfully on startup, but when it trys to run the daemon it outputs an error and therefore it is does not run:
    Process: 1041 ExecStart=/usr/bin/pommed -f (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    I tried to run the daemon myself, and I received the error:
    E: pommed needs root privileges to operate
    I changed the premissions and the ownership of the file and I still get the same error.
    I would appreciate your insight on solving this problem.
    Thank you!

    Hey tomk,
    I know that sentance seems a bit weird but that first line of code is the error I got when I check the systemd status:
    $systemctl status pommed.service -l
    ● pommed.service - Pommed Apple Hotkeys Daemon
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/pommed.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
    Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Sat 2015-05-02 14:41:57 PDT; 33min ago
    Process: 1041 ExecStart=/usr/bin/pommed -f (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    Main PID: 1041 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
    Thank you

  • [SOLVED] Run kded as a separate (systemd?) service

    Hi.
    I'm currently trying to enrich wmii session with some kde features.
    For example to allow kde to manage my keyboard I can do
    $ kded4
    $ qdbus org.kde.kded /kded loadModule keyboard
    The issue is that I can't start kded on login. I've tried both .xinitrc and systemd way. The outcome is always the same: kded4 won't work for the first time. There are 4 processes of kded4 and none of them responds to dbus calls. However, killing out all of its processes and starting again results in kded4 behaving correctly.
    So, here what I have currently
    systemd service

    Description=KDE daemon
    [Service]
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/kded4
    [Install]

    $ systemctl --user status kded

    Loaded: loaded (/home/edio/.config/systemd/user/kded.service; disabled)

    I finally managed this to work.
    Results of this are available on github.

  • [SOLVED] Network Manager systemd unit fails after update

    EDIT: Reinstalling libnm-glib resolved this issue
    After updating to the latest version of NetworkManager (networkmanager-0.9.8.10-3), the systemd unit fails to start. It works fine after downgrading back to the previous version though (networkmanager-0.9.8.10-1). I'm not sure if this is a bug or an error on my end; since the previous package works I've just dowgraded for the time being.  For the update that doesn't work, here is the output of "systemctl status" and the systemd journal:
    >>sudo systemctl daemon-reload
    >> sudo systemctl status NetworkManager

  • Systemd service delay

    I'm trying have the following sequence occur on startup:
    1) Load dvb_hdhomerun module
    2) Wait for networking
    3) Start userhdhomerun.service
    4) Wait for userhdhomerun to find network devices
    5) Start tvheadend.service
    If I manually start the two services after reboot, everything works fine.
    If I enable userhdhomerun.service, it has to restart itself several times before succeeding (I had to increase the RestartSec to 5):
    Aug 10 09:41:15 xbmc systemd-modules-load[96]: Inserted module 'dvb_hdhomerun'
    Aug 10 09:41:16 xbmc systemd[1]: userhdhomerun.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=255/n/a
    Aug 10 09:41:16 xbmc systemd[1]: Unit userhdhomerun.service entered failed state.
    Aug 10 09:41:21 xbmc systemd[1]: userhdhomerun.service holdoff time over, scheduling restart.

    Aug 10 09:41:22 xbmc systemd[1]: Unit userhdhomerun.service entered failed state.
    Aug 10 09:41:27 xbmc systemd[1]: userhdhomerun.service holdoff time over, scheduling restart.

    Aug 10 09:41:28 xbmc kernel: hdhomerun: userhdhomerun connected
    I think this is related to the network not being ready? userhdhomerun needs to find a device on the LAN to work correctly
    Now if I also enable tvheadend, it restarts with userhdhomerun, but it finishes before userhdhomerun discovers the device on the LAN.
    Relevant service files:
    [Unit]
    Description=Userspace daemon of the HDHomerun DVB driver
    After=network.target
    [Service]
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/userhdhomerun -d
    Restart=always
    RestartSec=5
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    [Unit]
    Description=tvheadend
    After=tmp.mount network.target userhdhomerun.service
    Requires=userhdhomerun.service
    [Service]
    Type=forking
    PIDFile=/run/tvheadend.pid
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/tvheadend -f -p /run/tvheadend.pid -C -u hts -g video
    ExecStop=/usr/bin/rm /run/tvheadend.pid
    Restart=always
    RestartSec=5
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    Is there a way to really delay the start of userhdhomerun.service until after the network is really operational?
    Is there a way to delay the start of tvheadend.service until userhdhomerun has had a chance to discover devices on the netowork?

  • Systemd poweroff not working [SOLVED]

    I have installed systemd on both my laptop and my desktop pc. The laptop is working fine, but the desktop PC will not poweroff any more.
    systemctl reboot, halt or poweroff simply run to "Stopped target Remote File Systems" and then sits winking at me.
    Adding --force just gets to the winking quicker.
    To be honest, I don't know where to look.
    Thanks

  • Systemd / services start but do not listen to interfaces

    Hello,
    In the course of migrating from initscripts to systemd (mixed systemd/sysvinit/initscripts), I am facing a strange behaviour with some services: squid, bind (named), dhcpd which start normally but do not listen to the useful interface. For instance, for named, netsat does not show  192.168.42.2:53 (which is is my LAN interface), despite the process is running (systemd status named). It seems that with systemd there is a change to the way available interfaces are reported to the services (for those services, I have not explicitly configured the interface to listen to).
    If I revert back to initscripts only (removing  init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd from the kernel argument) everything is OK.
    I am not running NetworkManager (relevant ?), my rc.conf is clean apart that I am still using the deprecated syntax (I need a bridge interface that NetworkManager cannot handle).
    eth0="dhcp"
    eth1="eth1 promisc"
    br1="br1 192.168.42.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.42.255"
    INTERFACES=(eth0 eth1 br1)
    Thanks for any help.

    I found the cause of the problem: legacy network service starts too late, after some other network daemons which do not see yet the interfaces.
    I switched to netcfg and dropped network.
    Seems to be OK now.
    Glad you found the problem. Would you please edit your first post and mark as "Solved" so others searching for this will see it?

  • Courier-MTA, mail Ports Still Closed After Courier Daemon Is Started

    I followed the tutorial on the arch wiki to setup courier-mta (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Courier_MTA). All the configuration seemed to go fine, but when I tried to stat courier, I get an error:
