  • Desktop Software 6.0 (PC) does not show OS 6 system software and core applications

I have installed DM 600_b047 on my PC (running WinXP w/ SP3). I have also installed both OS 6.0.0_rel862 and 5.0.0_rel1385 on the same PC. When I connect my Bold 9000 to the PC, DM shows everything that is installed on the device. However, when disconnect the Bold and I connect my Torch 9800, DM shows only the third-party apps installed on the device. DM does not show the System Software, Core Applications, Phone, etc. that are installed on the Torch.
On another PC (also WinXP w/ SP3), I have installed the same DM and OS software. DM on the latter PC shows all System Software, Core Apps, 3rd-party apps, etc. of both the Bold and Torch.
I would appreciate any suggestions how to get my other PC to show all BB software installed on the Torch. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the DM and OS software on the one PC. It did not resolve my issue.
    Thank you.

Here's how I resolved my issue:
    1. On the DM's Applications page, click the "Import files" button.
    2. Drill down to the folder containing the .alx files of the BB OS. In my case, that would be "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9800M_v6.0.0.284_P6.4.0.120"
    3. Select the alx files shown.in the files window..
    4. Click the "Open" button of the dialog box.
    5. Wait for DM to finish processing the selected files.
Voila! Now I see all the apps.
Maybe RIM's software and/or system engineers can explain how the DM software got into the condition where it apparently had not selected the .alx files.

  • I can not uninstall Office 2013 from command line

Hi, I have been stuck for a while trying to uninstall Office 2013 via command line. Installation file was downloaded from Volume Licensing Service Center, Uninstall.xml file for silent uninstallation looks like this:
    <Configuration Product=”ProPlus”>
    <Display Level=”basic” CompletionNotice=”yes” SuppressModal=”yes” AcceptEula=”yes” />
    </Configuration>
From command line the following will not work:
    setup /uninstall ProPlus /config .\ProPlus.ww\Uninstall.xml
Error: Setup can not find or validate an installation file. Please try reinstalling Office . . .
setup /uninstall ProPlus gives me GUI to continue process - it seems /config .\ProPlus.ww\Uninstall.xml part does not work as it should be
This is very important to me since I used above command line in SCCM 2012 R2 to allow user to uninstall Office 2013 by itself via Software Center. When this failed I tried locally but the error was the same. This should have been trivial task - silent uninstallation
using .xml file. It is not a rocket science. I am very angry because losing time for something like this is unacceptable for system engineers working with SCCM 2012 R2.

    Hi,
This error might occurs due to lots of reasons. Where is the installation file stored? If it's stored on a network share, please copy it to your local disk, and then manually run the command again. This way, we'll see if the installation file is the
    problem.
If issue persists in this case, then this generally means that something wrong with the installation file. Please try to redownload it and then try again.
Please also make sure that you're executing the command with elevated privileges (run as administrator).

  • Join with count() issue, please help!

    Hello All,
I have this (probably really simple) issue that I cannot seem to resolve...I have 2 tables here (tbl_system_engineer and tbl_task_request)...(only relevant columns are listed below)
    tbl_system_engineer
    - id NUMBER
    - full_name VARCHAR2
    tbl_task_request
    - tr_number NUMBER
    - submitted_on_date DATE (date task was submitted)
    - ass_comp_date DATE (date task is due)
    - closed_date DATE (date task was officially closed)
    - requestor NUMBER (the system engineer id, the person who created this task)
The query is supposed to summarize how many of the system engineers tasks are as followed:
    - "past completion date" - how many tasks have tbl_task_request.closed_date > tbl_task_request.ass_comp_date OR SYSDATE > tbl_task_request.ass_comp_date for the engineer
    - "Approaching Completion Date" - how many tasks have a tbl_task_request.ass_comp_date in this month but not "past completion date" for the engineer
    - "On Schedule" - how many tasks have a tbl_task_request.ass_comp_date > the end of SYSDATE month and year
The result set rows are supposed to look like...
"System Engineer full name", past completion date count, approaching completion date count, on schedule count
    Please help!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
That's an example of a Pivot , where you want to GROUP BY a combination of columns, and have some of the columns appear as different columns, not different rows.
The way to do that is to GROUP BY the expression(s) for which you want rows, and use CASE expressions for the others.
    For example:
    SELECT       e.full_name
    ,       COUNT ( CASE
                   WHEN  r.closed_date     > r.xyz_comp_date
                   OR    SYSDATE          > r.xyz_comp_date
                   THEN  1
                  END
                )     AS overdue
    ,       COUNT ( CASE
                   WHEN  xyz.comp_date     <  ADD_MONTHS ( TRUNC(SYSDATE, 'MONTH')
                                                      , 1
                   AND   r.closed_date     <= r.xyz_comp_date
                   AND   SYSDATE          <= r.xyz_comp_date
                   THEN  1
                  END
                )     AS approaching
    ,       COUNT ( CASE
                   WHEN  xyz.comp_date     >= ADD_MONTHS ( TRUNC(SYSDATE, 'MONTH')
                                                      , 1
                   THEN  1
                  END
                )     AS on_schedule
    FROM       tbl_system_engineer     e
    JOIN       tble_task_request     r     ON     r.requestor     = e.id
    GROUP BY  e.full_name
;I don't have versions of your tables, so I can't actually test this. I suspect that some consideration for NULLs needs to be added to the CASE conditions.
if you post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) then people can test their ideas.
Sometimes, especially when the columns are mutually exclusive, it's simpler to calculate a value in a sub-query, telling with which column of output each row is associated. That computed value is then used in very simple CASE expressions in the main query,
Among the annoying features of this site is ithat ir replaces what it thinks are naughty words with s.  I suspect that happend in your post.  I assume all the columns with ** are the same, for which I substituted above.

  • Audigy platinum ex firewire port

We are having great difficulty using the firewire port on an audigy platinum ex. The audigy has worked very well for three years. The machine is an AMD Athlon 2GHz, AOpen m/board, Win XP with SP2.
We recently bought a LaCie d2 extreme 200GB triple interface HD. When connected to the port on the external audigy box, or to the port on the rear of the PCI card, this dri've is not recognosed by the computer. It does not appear as a HD in the hard disk section of the device manager, and we can see no evidence of a firewire client running, though the PCI OHCI Compliant IEEE394 Host Controller is installed and working. From this we conclude that the OS is set up for firewire devices, but that for some reason it is not being detected.
When we connect the LaCie dri've to a USB2 port on the machine, the device works fine; we can see the dri've, access it for directory & file lists, and read & write files to/from the dri've. We have also tried the LaCie on other machines fitted with USB2, with Win2000 & Win98 and it works fine. We therefore conclude that the LaCie does not have a fault itself. This hard dri've has its own power supply, and is not reliant on the power capabilities of either IEEE394 or USB2.
We have 'discussed' the matter with LaCie. They have asked us whether the IEEE394 port we are experiencing difficulty with is engineered only for DV, or whether it is engineered to be connected to mass storage device such as a hard dri've. We were unaware that ther were such differences with IEEE394, and we have no way of checking this; the Creative labs specification does not go into this detail.
Therefore, the questions we would like to pose to the community are as follows:
. Is this port known for certain to be engineered for the attachment of mass storage devices?
    2. Has any body actually attached a mass storage device to the external dri've box port or the port on the audigy PCI card?
    3. has anybody actually use da LaCie d2 extreme 200GB dri've on these ports?
    4. What set-up procedures were followed to get a LaCie to work?
Although we are 'newbie' status on this site we do have considerable experience of computers and computing going back to 966, and covering most types of machine that have been extant in the intervening period. This includews working with PC's since 983 and as systems engineers on Unix technical workstations. This problem does illustrate that no matter what ones experience level is, there is always something that can baffle, as this has done to us.
We'd like to thank in advance anybody who can contribute information to solve this problem, or indeed anybody who reads the posting and could point us in the right direction.
    Regards
    John Smith

I have been using a Maxtor One Touch external USB/Firewire hard dri've and a Canon digital camcorder on the Platinum Audigy Ex Firewire port for over a year with no problems except for the time the plug on the extension cable inadvertently got pulled out of the back of the Ex box when I moved some equipment around.
I am running Windows XP Professional SP2, and I upgraded to it after I started using the Audigy Platinum Ex Firewire port. No problems either before or after.

  • Best Practice: Deploying Group Policy to Users on different OUs

Greetings, everyone! I am needing some advice on how to deploy some group policy objects to specific users stored on different OUs.
Let me set the stage: I work for a large school district, and have recently taken over the district's career center. The idea behind the career center is that students from different high schools around the city come in to take classes based on their choice
of career, such as radio broadcasting or auto mechanic and such. The AD structure is set up so that each school has their own OU.  When a user (staff, student, etc.) is assigned to a school OU, they automatically are added to
their school's security group (i.e. EASTHIGH-STUDENT), and that when any user moves from one school to another, we have to move their AD account to that school's OU, which will remove the security group from the old school and apply the new school
    security group.
For the career center, since we have students coming from different buildings every day, rather than trying to find a way to move their AD account from their high school OU to the career center OU, the previous techs created generic accounts (such as tv001,
tv002, etc.) in AD and stored them in the career center OU.  This way, teachers can assign students that particular generic account so that they can access the drives and printers from the career center, as well as access the career center network
drives while they are at their home high school.
Since I have moved to the career center, and apparently I have more knowledge about group policy than most of the techs in the district, the district system engineers want me to remove all of the generic accounts from the career center OU, and have students
use their own AD accounts.  Obviously I also want to do this since the generic accounts are very confusing to me, but I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this.
For simplicity sake, I'm just going to start off by figuring out how to set up a group policy for mapping the career center drives.  Now, I obviously know that the best way would be to create security groups for each career area, and that we would need
to add students to those groups so that only those particular students would get the GPO for the career center, but my question is where would I like the group policies to?  Do I need to link it at the root of the domain so that every OU is hit?
    Just curious about this.
    Thanks!

Don't link it to the root.... apply the drive mapping as a policy at the OU or you could apply the drive mapping using Group Policy Preferences using security group targeting... .I would also strongly recommend you check out my articles

  • Where Can I Find a Complete Reference for ASA 5505 Product IDs?

I've spent way too much time exploring the Internet looking for a definitive reference to pin down and completely explain all of the Cisco product ID mumbo jumbo . . . specifically for the ASA 5505 security device.  In general I'd like to have this information for all things Cisco.  It is driving me crazy not to know this information IN TOTAL.  Yes, there's bits and pieces out there, but no offical guide or reference that details everything.  This is what I want to see.
    For example:  for the ASA5505 there's . . . ASA5505-50-BUN-K9, ASA5505-SEC-BUN-K9, ASA5505-UL-BUN-K9, etc.
What is the "BUN", "K9", "SEC", etc.  Not just what does it stand for (we can deduce that), but where did this come from and how can I quickly reference a new acronym which may show up in completely differnce Cisco device.  Also, specifically for the ASA 5500 line, I want to see a COMPLETE list of ALL of these IDs and want a legend to reference each part.  This is critical in my opinion for a project manager to make an informed decision about hardware.  Cisco documentation is grossly lacking for this (or at least I'm unable to find it).  The closest I've come was to discovery this whole notion of the Unique Device Identifier (UDI) which is the Cisco' product identification standard for labeling hardware products.
This is explained some here . . .
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/products_identification_standard.html
It's a good start but, it only creates more questions.  Where can I find ALL the PIDs and what does each acronym stands for?  What about the VIDs? . . . Where is a list of these what does each section mean?.  Why in the world is there no single source where all of this is pinned down.  With all of the mind-numbing Cisco documentation out there loaded with cryptic details about things many of us will never care to know . . . why not put out this much needed, practical reference of Product IDs which would have a wide appeal and could be useful to everyone from product specialist to system engineers?  It would make researching Cisco solutions to new projects exponentially less painful to know very quickly exactly what we're looking at when we encounter all of this product "code."
Am I the only one who feels this way?  I'm thinking not.  What say you?  Am I missing something?
    LT

There is no such published reference guide. The closest thing would be the global price list but it's generally not distributed. (What Jouni mentioned was probably an extract of that very large document.)
Due to the broad range of products (and associated bundles and services), Cisco uses online configuration and ordering tools (Cisco Commerce Workspace or CCW) internally and with its partners. The information in it is very dynamic and can change day to day as the tens of thousands of products Cisco offers are introduced, deprecated (i.e., Approaching or at End of Sales), offered in different promotional bundles, etc.
When a Cisco salesperson or partner solution advisor talks with a customer, they take the customer's input and build equipment, software and services configuration sets supporting the proposal. CCW will validate the required items are ordered and generate a configuration set that has not only the product IDs (PIDs, generally referred to as SKUs or Stock Keeping Units in this context) but also the plain language descriptions of what each PID means.
They should be conveying that information to you (or any customer they are engaged with) to enable you to make the informed decision you mention.

  • Read Write Data into a MS Word document

The requirement I am fullfilling directly specifies the need to write data into a Microsoft Word Document and if Necessary, Read Back data from a Microsoft Word Document. The data will be simple text but as time goes on I anticipate the systems engineers may expand the requirement. I want to cross one bridge at a time so I am just concentrating on the text issue. I must do it from within a stand-alone application. Not through a server, not through ASP, not through a browser, just a stand alone application. It appears from my own investigation of the JAVA API that this is not possible. Regrettably, I am only a day or so away from switching to C# or VB to get this job done. My first question is
    1. Can Java Do this?
    2. If not, does Sun Microsystems have any plans to add this capabiliy?
    3. Can we make recommendations to Sun to add this capability to JAVA?

    1. Can Java Do this?Java can do anything but there is no built-in ability to do just that.
    2. If not, does Sun Microsystems have any plans to add
    this capabiliy?
    3. Can we make recommendations to Sun to add this
capability to JAVA?Very doubtful! MS Office document formats are not completely open to the public - and they are weird! Supporting this capability would probably require an agreement with Microsoft and it would mean you had to change the API for every time Microsoft chooses to change the document formats.
But there are some open source tools that claim to be rather good at reading and writing MS Office files. Take a look at this one:

  • [SOLVED] How to Patch Base OS WIMs in a non-SCCM Environment?

My new employer doesn't have SCCM but they're at least using MDT, even if it is 2010.  We (System Engineers for servers; Desktop Engineers for workstations) have historically been using Windows Update to patch the machine in question, but that (a) requires
a bit of baby sitting, (b) takes ages and (c) is done every time a new server is stood up or new image is built.
Being one of the new guys, I've been asked if there's a way to automate the installation of OS updates for Windows 7 up to Server 2012 R2.  My process has been to mount the WIM and apply as many updates as I can offline by pointing DISM to a directory
    full of updates.
However, I've been in situations where updates break the WIM because dependencies weren't in place, namely .NET which can't be installed offline.  And its such a hassle to go through that troubleshooting process narrow it down to the offending update
    - augh!
Having said all that, I'm in need of some advice for how to handle
stock WIMs from stock Microsoft ISO's.
What process do you experts follow for getting that WIM fully up to date?
I'm talking all the [recommended] updates offered via Windows Update: from updates for Windows, IE, .NET; standard security updates to IE upgrades (e.g. from 9 to 9, 9 to 10, 10 to 11), MSXML updates, Silverlight etc..
    Does update installation order matter?
Is it safe to point DISM to a directory of cabs for offline updates & let it rip or does it require a bit of structure?
I'm sort of doing a hybrid: Pulled down over 200 updates from the Microsoft update catalog, extracted the cabs into a centralized location & separated them into two groups, group 2 being updates that
seem to cause problems when done offline or can't be done offline due to a prerequisite.  (Group 1 is bit more than 200 updates, Group 2 is about a dozen including 2685811, 2685813, 2533552, 2819745)
Can I assume that for updates like WMF 4.0, UMDF 1.11, KMFD 1.11, MSXML and straight upgrades like .NET 4.5, IE 10/11, you're laying down the OS, installing the pre-requisites, installing the updates - maybe even running Windows Updates, then capturing?
I'm just really curious as to how far off the mark I am, how I can automate as much of this as possible and of course doing it right! :)
    Thanks

Although it is possible to install many updates offline, some just must be performed online, as you mention above.
My recommendation (and that of Niehaus, Arwidmark, Nystrom, Hunter, MCS, et. al.) is to create a MDT deployment share ( called the create share ) with task sequences for each image type. Install the OS, update the machine (via WSUS or Windows Update),
install your favorite applications, (UPdate again), and then Sysprep and Capture. All done within a Virtual Machine, preferably Hyper-V.
If you can automate all of your applications, then you can pretty much do the entire process with a single click.

I need a moment to collect myself after reading your hardware.
Seriously though, I'm down with doing it with MDT in a VM because its the cleanest it can be at that point.  My only concern were those 'gotchas':
Is DISM smart enough to know the proper installation order of the updates in that directory?  If not do I have to run DISM multiple times (pointing it to the same collection of CABs) to make sure I got everything?
Is there a fairly comprehensive list of updates that should be handled with special care/attention?
Anything else I didn't think of.
I really appreciate your responses - thank you kindly for putting up with me Keith. :)
