Sysvol&Netlogon_Not appear

Dear All
I have a 2012 AD Server and add a new 2012 AD Server for BDC, however, after the second AD Server join into the first DC, the Sysvol, netlogon do not create auto and shared.
The first AD Server's Sysvol and the netlogon is normal and shared. How can I fix the problem in the second server? Thanks.

First of all, I would recommend using dcdiag and repadmin
to check the health status of your DCs and the AD replication. Also, I would recommend that you refer to the recommendations I stated here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18513.active-directory-replication-issues-basic-troubleshooting-steps-single-ad-domain-in-a-single-ad-forest.aspx
You can also give a look to this: http://www.appdelivery.com/2013/11/the-case-of-the-missing-netlogon-share/
Another thing you can do is to do a non-authoritative restore of DFSR for SYSVOL as mentioned in the first article.
If none helps then you might to temporary disable security software you use on your DCs and make sure that the traffic between them is not filtered or blocked. Of couse, as this is a new DC then you are able to demote it and promote it again (Better to re-install
the OS and install the available Windows updates before promoting it again).

  • AD Replication issues, SYSVOL / NETLOGON not replicating

    Hello Experts!
We have a client that recently called us for some assistance. The IT department had a new virtual environment stood up. They Created 3 new VMs and promoted them all to domain controllers. The current domain and forest functional levels are (and were) Server
2003. There were two existing domain controllers, both Server 2003. The new domain controllers are Server 2012 R2. After promoting the 3 new servers to DC’s, they demoted one of the old DC’s. Then they transferred FSMO roles to a new 2012 R2 DC. When they
went to demote the last server 2003 DC, it was giving them the error that it is the last DC in the domain. That’s when we were called to assist. I have since demoted 2 of the 3 new 2012 R2 DCs and transferred all FSMO roles back to the Server 2003 DC.
I have been running some tools to try and gather data. Here is the DCDIAG from the last Server 2003 DC:

From here I can see SYSVOL and NETLOGON are not replicating from server2003server. When I log on to server2003server and run ‘net share’ the SYSVOL and NETLOGON shares are shared. But, when I do the same on 2012R2DC there are no NETLOGON or SYSVOL shares.
I see ntfrs issues. So I ran ntfrsutl ds on server2003server and the results are here:

Also worth noting that when we power down SERVER2003SERVER no computer can contact a logon server.
The last line of this worries me as well. I am going to continue to work on this but I wanted to get these logs to some other eyes in case you have some ideas off the bat. Thanks in advance!

I would first recommend to make sure that the new DCs are also global catalogs and to refer to IP setting recommendations I shared here: http://www.ahmedmalek.com/web/fr/home.asp
It is possible to do a non-authoritative restore of SYSVOL to make it appear on the other DCs: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762?wa=wsignin1.0
However, you would need to upgrade to DFSR.

  • SYSVOL on Win8 Clients DFS link points to wrong path

Since I introduced a secondary DSfW DC I experience wrong DFS paths on
my only Win8 DSfW member computer, if the active path of
\\domain\sysvol points to the secondary DC. It points to the sysvol on
the secondary DC instead of the sysvol-msdfs.
This happens especially after extended uptime of the Win8 machine. It
does not happen on Win7 and XP clients.
One thing to take into account further is, that on Win8 UAC is on
whereas UAC is off on Win7 (and of course XP).
I already removed this machine from the domain and readded it without
changing that behaviour and I have no real influence on that, too - as
it just happens out of the blue and I see that group policies could not
be applied due to the incorrect path. If I turn this machine off in the
evening and turn it on the next day settings are correct at the
beginning, but turn wrong after 6-12 hours of uptime.
I have no idea where to dig further.

  • Sysvol Replication

    Hi
I have a couple of Windows 2012 domain controllers that have stopped replicating their Sysvol folders.
I believe that the issue is with DC2 as it is missing some of the newer policies, despite having a lot more folders listed (these were old policies that have been removed).
    The error message listed says
‘The DFS Replication service stopped replication on volume C:. This occurs when a DFSR JET database is not shut down cleanly and Auto Recovery is disabled.
To resolve this issue, back up the files in the affected replicated folders, and then use the ResumeReplication WMI method to resume replication.’
I have run the ResumeReplication which says it was successful. I then get a message that I have exceeded the maximum offline time of 60 days so I increase it with
‘The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the folder with the following local path: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain. This server has been disconnected from other partners for 85 days,
which is longer than the time allowed by the MaxOfflineTimeInDays parameter (60). DFS Replication considers the data in this folder to be stale, and this server will not replicate the folder until this error is corrected.
To resume replication of this folder, use the DFS Management snap-in to remove this server from the replication group, and then add it back to the group. This causes
the server to perform an initial synchronization task, which replaces the stale data with fresh data from other members of the replication group. ‘
I tried to remove server in the DFS Management snap-in but was unable to find the option so ran the command to increase the maximum offline time
    wmic.exe /namespace:\\root\microsoftdfs path dfsrMachineConfig Set MaxOfflineTimeInDays=120
I restart the DFSR service and things initially look positive in the Event Viewer until I get an error…
The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the replicated folder at local path C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain.
    Additional Information:
Error: 9073 (Content set initialization is pending journal wrap task to resume journal read)
Running DCDiag appears to be fine with the exception of reporting there are errors in event log.
Can anyone assist with any suggestions on how to recover this without the need to completely rebuild the server. Active Directory seems to be replicating without issue, it’s just the Sysvol share.
    Many thanks
    Simon

  • No Sysvol or Netlogon Shares

    Good Evening experts,
I have a Windows 2003 Standard DC which will soon be replaced with a Windows 2008 DC.  I have given the 2008 box the DC role but I have noticed neither the sysvol nor netlogon share have appeared on the new DC.  When I looked into this further,
I found this error on the 2003 server:
"The File Replication Service has detected that the replica set "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)" is in JRNL_WRAP_ERROR.    Replica set name
is    : "DOMAIN SYSTEM VOLUME (SYSVOL SHARE)"  Replica root path is   : "c:\windows\sysvol\domain" Replica root volume is : "\\.\C:"  A Replica set hits JRNL_WRAP_ERROR when the record that it
is trying to read from the NTFS USN journal is not found.  This can occur because of one of the following reasons.    [1] Volume "\\.\C:" has been formatted.  [2] The NTFS USN journal on volume "\\.\C:" has been deleted.
[3] The NTFS USN journal on volume "\\.\C:" has been truncated. Chkdsk can truncate the journal if it finds corrupt entries at the end of the journal.  [4] File Replication Service was not running on this computer for a long time.  [5]
File Replication Service could not keep up with the rate of Disk IO activity on "\\.\C:".  Setting the "Enable Journal Wrap Automatic Restore" registry parameter to 1 will cause the following recovery steps to be taken to automatically
recover from this error state.  [1] At the first poll, which will occur in 5 minutes, this computer will be deleted from the replica set. If you do not want to wait 5 minutes, then run "net stop ntfrs" followed by "net start ntfrs"
to restart the File Replication Service.  [2] At the poll following the deletion this computer will be re-added to the replica set. The re-addition will trigger a full tree sync for the replica set.   WARNING: During the recovery process data in
the replica tree may be unavailable. You should reset the registry parameter described above to 0 to prevent automatic recovery from making the data unexpectedly unavailable if this error condition occurs again.
I don't have another DC to pull the sysvol/netlogon details from and wanted some advice.
    Bud

    BHeld,
Cheers for your reply, I was going to go down this road but wanted to ensure I was on the correct path.  In addition, this particular domain is part of an overall forest but the other child domains are fine, its just this one that won't replicate.
Do I need to do anything on the domains in the other child domains or just what you had specified above? cheers
    Dinesh,
Polices and Script folder is still there.  Cheers
    Bud
You only need to modify one of the DC in the problem domain. There is noting to be done in all other domains which are working fine. BTW, Sysvol/Netlogon shares are not replicated to other domains.

  • Unable to Sync SYSVOL Folder between Domain Controllers

    Good Afternoon All,
I have the following issue on my current domain configuration, I say current as we are seeking to go to Server 2012 R2 within the next few months, but for now, we are at the 2008 R2 functional level.
We have three Domain Controllers namely Server-001 to 3, with Server-002 holding the PDC Emulator Role. Now when policies are created or updated through GP Management, I have noticed that they sync without issue between Server-002 and Server-003, but not
Server-001. In the SYSVOL Folder in each DC, the folder totals in policies are as follows:
    Server-001 - 72 Folders
    Server-002 - 96 Folders
    Server-003 - 96 Folders
So here, it can be clearly seen that there is some sort of replication issue between Server-001 and the other controllers. I have researched and read several articles and opinions regarding the same issue and have ran many of the commands outlined including
repadmin, dnslint, gposync, etc. with the only output displaying errors being gposync. I have checked all the event logs for each DC with added focus on the DFS Replication Logs and have seen no errors regarding replication on Server-001 which is the server
at fault, but have noted that it appears that Server-001 is only replicating to itself, while Servers -002 and -003 are syncing/replicating between each other. I created a text document in Server-002's SYSVOL Folder and checked in Server-003's and verified
that the document successfully synced across, but on Server-001 nothing happened. I did some research on the issue and came across non-authoritative sysvol restore as an option, but when I tried this on Server-001 via ADSI Edit, I noticed that the following
    path:
    OU=Domain Controllers>CN=Server-001>CN=DSFR-LocalSettings>CN=Domain System Volume
is missing. Initially, DSFR-LocalSettings was missing as well, but I re-created it. I then attempted to re-create Domain System Volume, but when I tried entering the Replication Group GUID, I got an error that "one or more of the values are not in the
correct format", even though this is the same GUID used on the other two DCs. I tried changing the value to octet, hexadecimal, etc. but nothing worked. i still got the same error. I am convinced that this is where the disconnect lies, but with no possible
idea how to fix this broken section, I am unsure how to further proceed. We were going to demote the server, bring up a 2012 R2 unit and have it seize the roles, but I convinced my Systems Administrator for us to try and see if there is a fix available before
commissioning a new server. As is, group policy is somewhat broken as policies either do no get applied at all, or, get applied to certain groups or OUs.
If you are interested I can forward you our DFSR Logs from each server, along with any other reports that I have run in the hopes that someone will be able to assist. I hope that I have been as clear as possible and have provided as much information as is
    possibly required.
    Thank you all in advance.

  • GPO not in sysvol

Do you have multiple Domain controllers? If so look and see which DC you created it on. If so you may want to go to your other DC and see if DFS is running there. I had this issue then realized it just wasnt replicating to one of my other servers due to DFS not running on it.

    Hello All,
I have created a GPO to install a peice of asset managment software on some test machines. However, it is not showing up in the sysvol of any of the domain controllers.
I tried to delete it, and recreate using another DC but I still have the same problem.
I have manually tried to replicate across all DC's but it still isn't showing. As far as I'm aware DFS is on and working.
    Please help!

  • Linked policies not copying to sysvol\domain\policies?

This problem started recently, and I have not been able to find any resolutions online.
This is a relatively new installation of Server 2012 R2 on a small network of about 25 PCs. I was able to set up a number of GPOs without issue, but all of a sudden, newly linked GPOs are not copying to sysvol\domain\policies. That path is accessible from client
PCs, but the folder itself (5C53E...) isn't created, and gpupdate is producing the error:
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\dominionair.local\SysVol\dominionair.local\Policies\{5C53EB48-F4BA-4763-8500-E05BB54E3AB4}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may
not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
    a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
    b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
    c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.
Computer Policy update has completed successfully.
To diagnose the failure, review the event log or run GPRESULT /H GPReport.html f
rom the command line to access information about Group Policy results.
I AM able to add to existing GPOs and the settings update on client PCs, so this doesn't appear to be a permissions issue. Any idea where to start on this?
    Thank you!

Your sysvol replication is broken. Check NTFRS or DFSR eventlogs on all
    DCs and then follow either
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315457
    (NTFRS) or
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2218556 (DFSR).

  • SYSVOL Replication Failing - 13508

We have two 2008 R2 DCs and our second DC has been getting the 13508 for months.  I have checked the logs and have found no instance of 13509.
I have recently set up a third DC (server 2012 R2) and am now getting the message on that machine as well.  Except, now it's showing the message for DC1 and DC2.
The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from DC2 to DC3 for c:\windows\sysvol\domain using the DNS name DC2. FRS will keep retrying.
Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning.
[1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name DC2 from this computer.
[2] FRS is not running on DC2.
[3] The topology information in the Active Directory Domain Services for this replica has not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers.
This event log message will appear once per connection, After the problem is fixed you will see another event log message indicating that the connection has been established.
I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I continued to do some diagnostics.  I was able to ping the FQDN with no problem.  I disabled the firewalls on all boxes and tested with no luck.  There is now internal firewall blocking anything and
the proper ports are open and listening.
In addition, I have noticed on the DC that is NOT receiving the 13508 error has had a couple 13562 errors-
Following is the summary of warnings and errors encountered by File Replication Service while polling the Domain Controller DC1 for FRS replica set configuration information.
Could not bind to a Domain Controller. Will try again at next polling cycle.
Other than that, there are no FRS errors on DC1. Here are the results of DCDiag on DC1:

  • Sysvol share disapears repeatedly

I have been having an issue in our main production domain where the Sysvol shares will disappear on 2 of our 3 DCs. The files still exists but Sysvol and Netlogon will no longer be shared. I have run a force sync on a couple of occasions now as listed
here https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2218556?wa=wsignin1.0 However, this fixes the issue for about a day. When I check back in on the DCS they have a replication state of 2 or initial sync. What is frustrating is that all replication succeeds and appears
normal when using DCDiag and repadmin. However I am unable to even open a GPO on any DC in that domain. It gives the error Network Name not found. I have been looking this over for awhile and would really like to know if anyone has experienced anything similar
or has suggestions on what to check next.

D2 and D4 is used with FRS service. I mentioned them because I did not know what your operating systems are. Since you are using 2012 Windows Sever, the SYSVOL replication is done using DFSR. So in that case it is different. Down times will not be big. The
first time I did it, I planned to do it on weekend, it took 1 hour or less though. But who knows, it is wise to be on the safe side. Look at the below articles:
How to force an authoritative and non-authoritative synchronization for DFSR-replicated SYSVOL (like "D4/D2" for FRS)
SYSVOL and Group Policy out of Sync
on Server 2012 R2 DCs using DFSR
    Regards.

  • Windows Blue Screen Error Message Appears As Soon As IPod Connected

Everytime I connect my IPod to my computer, I get the Windows Blue Screen error message. Thought it was the cable, so plugged cable in by itself. No problem. Uninstalled IPod and ITunes software and then plugged in IPod, still got the Blue Screen. The Blue Screen says something about "recent plugged in device problem". It is not the cable, it must be the IPod. Did not have this problem when I bought it. Tried it on labtop and get the same error message. I can't do updater or anything that requires me to plug the IPod into a computer because the Blue Screen appears immediately. When I unplug, the Blue Screen remains and locks up the computer so I have to restart each time. I have tried everything I can think of. Please help.

Hi Mike thank you for replying,
I am not able to start the computer in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last good known configuration etc, Each time it quickly blue screens and restarts about two secs into the process.
I was unable to try a clean OS install from the disk as it gave the blue screen error shown in the original post. The same thing happened when I tried to use the repair option on the XP home disc. So i can't get into the computer at all to start diagnosing the fault, the only clue I have is the error message, and after searching the internet I haven't found much enlightenment from that yet.

  • When i login to my account and it takes me to the desktop, the error sound plays, then the rainbow wheel appears, and finder immediately stops responding

It started yesterday when i was listening to itunes when all of a sudden the music stopped playing and i had to hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot, and then, when i logged back in, the error sound played, and then finder opened up, but the window was grayed out like i had another app selected, bu i didn't, so i tried to open up itunes and the icon started bouncing and then it stopped midbounce and i had to reboot again because finder wasnt responding. now when i log in, the error sound plays, and finder immediately stops working and then i have to reboot again because i cant click anything and i cant properly relaunch finder. please help

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • IMac 10.4.11 Because permanent vertical lines have appeared on my screen, I need to get a new monitor. The adapter apple sells goes from female VGA to mini-DVI. What kind of cable should I get as well:female to male?

If I use an adapter (female VGA to mini-DVI) for my iMac 10.4.11 OSX, I also need a cable. Should that cable be female VGA to male VGA?
Permanent vertical lines have appeared on my display, and connecting to another display (monitor) requires a cable and adapter. I want to be sure I am purchasing the correct cable for the Apple adapter.

What made me think I need to format if I upgrade the OS?
    I just presumed so really.
What made me think I need to constantly format computer with my problem?
Well, after many attempts to repair the drive, which fails, cannot even reach the log in screen, I am left with no other choice?
And also, I have to note now, System Preferences keeps crashing without reason, it either takes ages to load, just by clicking it to open, or clicking something within it, or it just crashes.
And temporarily, it freezes the computer totally, with no response.
Seriously, am I missing a system file or something? Anyone experienced this problem before?
My computer is literally a blank computer right now, installed VLC and Shades, updated Adobe Flash Player, installed Skype and Adium. I would say Growl from Adium caused it, but it has happened prior to Skype and Adium. Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks,
    From Lelouch

Can anyone explain me what it was?

Why would you want a start button to stop something?
Seriously, I would not routinely shut down your Mac. It is not necessary. Just set it to sleep in System Preferences > Energy Saver.
When you are not using it, just walk away. Things will work better that way. Most of my Macs don't get shut down except while restarting them for software updates. This might be once every couple of months.
