T 60 Fan Heatsink replacement

Hi All This is my first post, so I hope I do it right.
I have a T 60 That needs a fan heatsink replacement. I have the part number from the fan as 41V9932RN. I think I have a standard screen but not sure. I finally found the spec on the Lenovo site but all it says is 14.1, I measured the screen and I get 14!/8. Type is 2077-46U. Am I correct that this is a standard screen?  Thank you for your help

  • After my heatsink replacement...anyone else having this problem?

I just got my Blackbook back on Monday after getting the heatsink replaced due to RSD's (as an aside, Apple's turnaround time was blazing fast, I was without my computer for only 5 days). The RSD's are gone thankfully, but my computer is running noticeably slower. I only have 512MB of RAM, but I am getting the Rainbow Beachball when I try to do simple things like open Firefox. I'm a student so I'm not running anything major like Photoshop, Microsoft Office is the biggest program I use. Often I cant be on instant messenger and Firefox at the same time, and certainly not with Office running unless I want to wait forever.
Is anyone else having this issue? Would simply upgrading my RAM (which I plan on doing) fix the problem, or is there something else that may be sapping my processor?

Upgrading the RAM is going to make a significant difference. I wouldn't hesitate, if I were you - at least 1GB. If you plan later to go to 2GB, get a 1GB chip and throw it in there with one of the 256MB chips. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
EDIT: Oops... forgot the other part of the question. Are you running anything else in the background (like Dashboard with a whole bunch of widgets)? Check the Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Application Monitor) to see what's running and taking up your system resources.

  • Fan/Heatsink Assembly Thermal Tape

hi I received my fan and heatsink today, and inside it has instructions for applying thermal paste with a syringe which is included in the box.Along with alcahol wipes.
I did not get any syringe with paste, or any wipes. Instead I got what looks like to be thermal tape, already stuck on my heatsinks, what do I do with this, or did HP just send me the wrong compound?
    Thanks, Tim.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

That is factory applied thermal compound. I think they use a machine to do it. The compound is sticky but is not intended to act as glue if that is what you mean. It transfers heat efficiently. You see the same type of geometric dab of thermal compound on standard fan/heatsink units packed with boxed processors. It is intended for one time use. When I was building high performance rigs I used to wipe that stuff off and apply my own Arctic Silver, but on a laptop that is not necessary. You could not apply a more perfect amount of cooling compound if you tried. Again, in the days when I was building high performance machines, I used to "lap" the surfaces of the top of the processor core or cover and the bottom of the heatsink using ultrafine emery cloth or even automobile rubbing compound, then clean it off with alcohol and then apply the thermal compound. The smoother the surface the better the cooling. The surfaces on the fan and heatsink are plenty smooth already but you may want to clean off the top of the processor core real well with just a dab of alcohol to remove residue. Then attach the fan/heatsink. Careful with the torque on the screws. Good luck.

  • Pentium D retail fan/heatsink good for Core 2 Duo?

Hello everyone.  I had a quick question about the retail fan/heatsink that comes with a Pentium D 805 processor.  My brother just ordered an Allendale Core 2 Duo CPU to upgrade his motherboard close to it's best supported CPU.  Well, he's a bit cheap and I was wondering since the retail cooler for a Core 2 Duo is so small, wouldn't the cooler from the Prescott CPU be a better cooler since it's about 2.5 times as big?  If it was me I'd get an aftermarket cooler, but that's the only two options I have to work with sadly.  Thanks for your input.

And if you are in the USA and could convince him to spend a few bucks I can definitly recommend this: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10007052&prodlist=froogle
I bought one and it lowered the temps by about 15C from the stock quad Intel cooler on mine.

  • Getting a replacement fan & heatsink module for my MSI NX6800GT (agp)

    Hi all,
I got a bit of a problem, the fan on my MSI NX6800GT (agp) sounds like a dog, after removing the card and having a look, it appears that the spindle that holds the fan in place has worn out (the fan seems to drop down onto the plastic and thats what is making the noise) . Its buggered basically. Do any of you fine people know of where I can get a decent replacement fan and heatsink?
    All help appreciated
    John

OK, I ordered one of those  nv silencers, I thought about contacting MSI like you guys said but after reading about this product I thought what the hell . . . £20 but worth it.
    http://www.gladiatorcomputers.com/ProductDetail.aspx?StockCode=ACCARTREV4NVS53&Link=SearchResults
It came yesterday, so last night I installed it, fitted well, one small thing on the instructions, there is an "L" shaped metal bracket called a passive heatsink plate, now I know my **** from my elbow but could I work out where this was supposed to go? . . . NO.
Anyway it appears that I dont need this bit, why cant they just say "this bit is optional". Kinda scary fitting stuff like this when youre as green as me.
Anyway, all went well. Thank you all.
    Regards
    John

  • T61 14,1" non-ws - nvidia replacement fan/heatsink

Hi. My mainboard died (previously it was an intel board), and I got a replacement nvidia board (yes, I know about the problems with nvidia boards). However, I wasn't aware that the cooling unit was different, and since the change of the webpage, all I get when looking for hardware manuals, is "File not found".
So, I was hoping somebody could help me with a part-number for an nvidia heatsink for the 14.1" 4:3 ratio T61.

    Whaa! Sorry, I misread your post, you need the number for the discrete graphics fan;
There are only two fans for that system, one each for integrated and discrete.
If I get time I'll upload the manual to somewhere and send you a PM with the link, probably this evening.

  • Replace the North Bridge fan Heatsink

    Tought the MEGA PC isnt quiet enough, seems to be the North Brige fan who always goes on the same speed. One tougth is the following;
Is a Zalman North Bridge Heatsink good enough to replace the North Bridge fan on a MEGA PC? It seems to be enougt height if you skip the idea of a secondary IDE drive. Or are there some better 3rd party noise killer fans available for the North Bridge?
    Your opinions pleese?

    Wonkanobody writes:
your using onboard vga thats in that chip so it really needs active cooling
I also have this noise complaint, and I use a separate AGP card (ATI AIW 9000). the Video card is already rather quite.
Does this mean I can easily remove the fan when I do not use on-board VGA. Does the chip really need a fan?

  • Are there fans to replace the stock P4

Okay, I know there are plenty of HS/Fans to use instead of the stock P4 2.8C HS/Fan.  At this time I don't want to mess with removing the stock HS. Are there any fans out there that will fit/work with the stock P4 HS?  I was hoping to replace the stock fan with one that has a higher air flow rate.

well, first, figure out how big your fan is, (maybe 70mm?) then just find some 70mm fans for sale :/ thats what i do, but yes, i usually just buy a HS/F, and take the fan i like offa the HS/F i just bought, and switch the two
for example, i had a ThermalTake Volcano 5, crappy older aluminum heatsink, but really kickass fan, then i bought a 2800+ and got a stock HS/F with it! the HS was NIIIICE, copperbase and everything, but it had a slow, AMD fan, soooo... both fans were same size, so i took the AMD fan off, and replaced it with my Tt, now i have 2 decent HS/F, one is really kickass, and the other i can still at least use on an older 1.5ghz computer or so...
generally not much cheaper to just get a fan than get a fan AND a heatsink... jus just get a HS/F and switch the fans...
but hey man, are you like lazy about switching HS/F ? becuase i mean, on a P4, its super simple, (or are you like me, and don't want to take it off because you applied the thermal paste perfectly, and don't want to mess it up ??? :D)

  • HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC faulty cooling fan needs replacement.

My cooling fan recently started becoming very loud on it's lowest speeds and I suspect I will need to replace it soon before it goes out completely. My question is where can I find replacement cooling fans for this product? The problem is I do not know the exact cooling fan I need to replace it and I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction.

  • HP G62 Heatsink replacement

I had the usual issue with the G62, overheating and fan no longer operational. It got to the point where I had to buy a new heatsink and fan however I've been sent the wrong one. As far as I can tell the only difference is a secondary thermostat. If my research is correct it is for the graphics card. Now is it possible to replace the existing heatsink with the new one?
    Fan numbers are existing: 606013-001
                          Swap with:606014-001?
Any help would be much appreciated

  • T43 1871-CTO fan 26R7860 replace with 26R8197

    Hi all,
I have a 15" T43 1871-CTO (Product ID: 1871Y2G). I am very pleased with it. I bought it used two years ago. Now my fan is very loud and is causing me headaches. So I bought a replacement fan 26R8197 from IBM. When I opened the computer there is:
    26R7859
    FRU FAN SHORT
    26R7860
Is this (26R7860) an original fan for this laptop? Is it possible that it should be 26R8197 from the start?
Also, screws don't look like the correct ones (according to the service manual).
    Next questions:
    - there are five black stickers (look like stickers) in the box. What should I do with them?
    - about the grease? How can I tell that the grase is already applied on the heatsink?
Current FRU does not cover the GPU (that on the right is GPU, right?) which this new FRU can cover. Do I need to remove or do anything with these heatsink spare parts (FRUs)?
    Thank you for your help.

    Welcome to the forum!
That "short" fan is not the original one. Take a look at the bottom picture on this page, that's what your setup should look like:
    http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T43
IBM (at least around here) pre-applies thermal grease.
    Good luck.

  • RX1300PRO-TD256E cooler-heatsink replacement problem

I own one MSI RX1300PRO-TD256E graphic card and I was really satisfied with it but accidentally cooler on it just died. I got replacement from MSI, same looking heatsink-cooler but insted of 2 wires it has 3 wires on it, and connector on graphic card lacks one pin for new cooler's cable connector. I just wanted to  cut one wire and make another connector but which two wires to connect where?
There're two pins on g. card, above first stands JU1 and above second is MJU1. Wires on the new cooler are red, black and blue.

The red & black are the power for the fan, other is for speed sensor which apparently is not used on your card. Just use bl. & rd. and connect same place original fan was.

  • Nb heatsink replacement

I have the thermalright NB-1, and am debating about removing the motherboard so i can use it to replace the stock heatsink.  One problem is, it doesnt properly allign with the pins, so if i use pins to install it, it wont completley cover the northbridge, there will be spots on the corners that are open.  Would it still make sense to use it?  Also i could use artic silver thermal adhesive, to hold it on, instead of the pins, would that be a better idea?

@ SPIROU: As I can see we have the same box from Antec. I will be installing the second 120mm fan very soon, thats when I want to replace the NB fan. I would like to avoid replacing the whole heatsink.
Anyone with an NB fan suggestion (a quiet one).
    Thanks

  • Heatsink Replacement

I'm looking to replace my stock heatsink with a more effective one, that does not include any modding, like removing backplate etc.  Ideally I'd like to make a painless switch.  I'm not terribly interested in fan control at moment.
I've tweaked my CPU to run at 2210 Mhz but the CPU temp has creaped up to 46 C idle.  I'll use the opportunity to use AS5, instead of the stock thermal pad.
Can you kindly recommend one, from http://www.thecoolingshop.com/index.php/cPath/98_2_18 as they do free delivery and appear to have an extensive selection.  I'm assuming the prices are competitive but if not please advise.
    Tks Dave

Maybe I should read entire thread. DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!     I go with this one as it is a solid copper heat sink.
http://www.thecoolingshop.com/product_info.php/cPath/98_2_18/products_id/791 You can change the fan if you want.
However if you can find this one where you live, I say go for it.
