T key not-physically stuck on wired keyboard

title exptains it all.

Not stuck on my wired keyboard, either, which is normal behavior. Was there a question here?

  • Stuck key (not physically) on Apple Wireless Keyboard

I went away on holiday for a month, and when I came back my Apple Wireless (BT) Keyboard sticks on the "U" key. It takes 2-3 presses for the key to appear on screen, and when one 'u' appears, it sticks (uuuu...) until I hit another key. I have not changed anything, have not installed any software updates, etc. I tried deleting all BT devices, restarting, then adding the keyboard back. Same result. I tried applying the BT wireless keyboard patch (which claims to fix this issue) and still nothing. Nobody used the keyboard while I was on vacation. It's just over a year old... does anyone have any idears? Thanks in advance.

I am also having a "U" problem with my wireless keyboard. The only way to get a capital U is to press the Cap key. The Shift key doesn't do the trick. The small u does not work as well as the rest of the keys but I don't seem to have the exact small problem as you do. My keyboard is only 3 months old. I called Apple and they want me to complete wipe out my hard drive and reload all the software. I'm not ready to do that yet so I am "suffering in silence".

  • Keyboard- letter acting stuck but key not physically stuck

I have a pavilion g7 notebook with Windows 7. The semi-colon is acting like it is being held down. The button, itself, is not stuck. I can press it and it pops back up just fine. On start up my laptop beeps and then a screen comes up that I have to choose the OS. Its beeping because of the semi- colon. I don't know much about laptops and it is not in warranty. Any suggestions? And doing a search or having to type anything will be very hard to do

    Hello maria__s,
I see that you are having problems with the semi-colon key on your HP computer. I would like to help with this issue but I need some information.
Can you provide the full model and product number of the computer? Here is a link that shows how to find that information.
How long have you been having the problem?

  • FN key not working on Apple Wireless Keyboard

EDIT: Found the culprit: USB Overdrive was taking over the external keyboard. After disabling USB Overdrive for the keyboard, the FN key started working again.
I have Macbook Air (Mid 2013) connected to a Cinema Display and Apple Wireless Keyboard. MBA is running the latest Yosemite (10.10).
I tried using FN + Delete on the wireless keyboard to forward delete but it didn't work, it just deleted. I tried other keyboard shortcuts that require the use of FN key, and none of them work either. But when I try these directly on the MBA's keyboard, the FN key works perfectly there, just not on the wireless keyboard.
I've removed the bluetooth keyboard and tried reconnecting, restarting computer, login out and back in. Nothing works. Anyone have any ideas?

I disabled "Any Keyboard, Any Application" and "Any Other, Any Application" but I still could not use my Fn key on my Apple Wireless Keyboard. Uninstalling (removing the driver) restored Fn key functionality. In addition downgrading from 3.1 to 3.0.2 on Yosemite also solved this issue.
Did you actually try what you wrote?
I should also note that the Fn key on my rMBP's internal keyboard works with 3.1, oddly enough, but the Apple Wireless Keyboard's Fn key does not.

  • How can I assign a function key on my IMAC's wired keyboard to enter my email address in documents or on internet forms?

I'm trying to set up my wired IMAC keyboard to create shortcuts to enter my email adresses into emails or into web forms.  I was able to do this when I was working with PCs but can't find direction on the process for the MAC.  There seems to be 7 unused Function Keys at the top of the keyboard that are srrving no apparent purpose so logic tells me they must be available for sutomization.
Please help. My fingers are tired...

I don't think you can with the standard Mac OS X tools / sys prefs..
You have to step into the realm of 3rd party key mapper tools.
      I'm reluctant to go there..
I'm happy being able to remap option to be my command key
using the standard System Preferences ->Keyboard..
but.. googling a bit shows some 3rd party tools..

  • Escape key stopped working in Lion (wired keyboard)

I upgraded my 27" iMac to Lion a few weeks ago, and over the last week or so I've noticed that the Escape key does not work. At all.  I am using a wired apple  aluminum keyboard with number pad.
My problem appears to be system-wide, as none of the usual things work.  I can't exit full-screen apps, cancel dialog boxes, or even get out of vi's insert mode in Terminal.  It's as if the escape key is dead
I've checked that speech recognition is not turned on (and changed the default 'Esc' shortcut to something else just in case), and checked all the other keyboard shortcuts to make sure it's not mapped to something else.  When I try to create a new keyboard shortcut, for example ctrl+Esc, it appears as:  ⌃⎋
and even the newly created shortcut doesn't work.
Is this a bug in Lion?  I would love to have my Escape key back, if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks for the tips, I had already checked that Speech Recognition was turned off (and i changed the shortcut key for good measure).  I also tried restoring the default shortcuts in each category in the system preferences pane, still no luck.
Then I randomly decided to reboot, and after that the Escape key started working normally again.  Strange behavior, and I'm not sure what program could have been eating the escape key, but I'm sure glad it's back.

  • Reassigning keys (not just shortcuts) on my keyboard

    Hello,
My right wrist is injured and I want to reassign a key on the left side of the keyboard (something like tab, or the `/~ key for instance) to perform the "backspace" function that the "delete" key now performs (in other words, it must actually delete to the left, not to the right). I've searched all the shortcut menus in both system applications and in the specific software preferences, and can't seem to be able to do this. Can anyone help? Can't afford carpal tunnel surgery! Thank you!

Im having the same issue. I just purchased my computer a few days back. But its been having the same volume issue since I started using it.

  • CTRL, ALT and SHIFT keys are sticking (not physically)

I am having a problem with the T-61p I have been using for 2 years now.
About once every 2 days Windows thinks that either the CTRL, the ALT or the SHIFT key is held down.  I only notice this when my mouse's left click or my arrow keys starts behaving funny (like opening dialogs when clicking on icons or highlighting text on a page in MS Word) instead of moving the cursor as they should.
When this starts happening, pressing the CTRL, ALT and SHIFT buttons causes the strange behavior to stop.
None of the keys are physically stuck down.  I am using an external keyboard with my laptop closed and docked.  I have tried switching keyboards, and I get the same results with brand new Logitech keyboards.
What could this be?  Has anyone seen this problem before?
    Your help is much appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum!
It sounds like you've inadvertently turned on the Sticky Keys accessibility feature.  Since you didn't mention which operating system you're using, I can't tell you how to turn it off.  Trying searching for Sticky Keys in Help in the Start button menu.
    Hope this helps!

  • Apple wired keyboard - certain keys not working with shift

I treated myself to a new Apple wired keyboard MB110B/A for my mac mini.
My previous keyboard worked fine, however the new keyboard causes the computer to enter the Hardware Test mode every time the computer is restarted. The computer only starts normally without the keyboard connected (or with my old keyboard connected).
Once the computer has started, if I plug the new keyboard in, it appears to work normally with the following exceptions. The following keys do not register when the "shift" key is pressed: 2, w, s, x. This fault does not occur with my old keyboard.
As these keys are in a line, I think there may be a wiring fault inside the keyboard. If so, would this explain the computer entering Hardware Test mode every time it is started with the keyboard connected?
    Thanks in advance.

Definitely sounds like a hardware fault in the keyboard to me. I assume it's the same whichever USB port it's connected to? (and if you plug it into another Mac, too)?
Of course, as that keyboard is glued together in final assembly, it's completely unrepairable.
If it's a reproducible fault (and new anyway): take/send it back for replacement. You shouldn't have any trouble with Apple arguing.

  • Wired keyboard-number pad&right arrow keys not working-serial # help!

    Hello to whomever reads/replies -
I have a wired keyboard for my iMac(it's not the aluminum imac, but the version before it with the keyboard and mouse that came with it). I got this keyboard June 2007 after the original keyboard sent to me had problems with it with some keys not working properly. And now about a week ago my right arrow key and the zero, decimal point, one, two, three and enter button on the keypad stopped working out of the blue. One night they worked and the next they didn't with nothing being done different, nor was the keyboard stored differently.
I've cleaned the keyboard inside and out twice and tried pushing the little squishy thing under the keys when you pop them off and there's no response with those being pushed either so something's got to be wrong with the keyboard itself.
Also, when I go online to look up the warrenty on this keyboard, #1 i can't find where it tells me where the serial number on the **** WIRED keyboard is, just gives me where i can find it on the WIRELESS keyboards. Ugh. So I looked under my keyboard and punched in the numbers and letters that i found on a little silver plate just below where the wire and USB ports are in the top of the keyboard and I get an 'invalid serial number' error message.
So.. could anyone help me with these problems? I'd really rather not call tech support since it took me over two hours to explain to the man that I spoke with last year about my other keyboard and I just don't have the time! Thanks in advance!
    Sharon

    Hello sharon:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Run, don't walk to the phone. Call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty problem. The KB is (or will be shortly) out of warranty. It may take you some time, but it may save you some money in the long run.
Incidentally, it appears to me that your KB is, indeed, broken.

  • Wired keyboard issues-caps lock won't turn off and other keys do not type

I sat down today to use my May, 2010 iMac.  Fully up to date with Lion.
I am using a WIRED keyboard.
The caps lock key is permanently on and the remaining keys when pressed do nothing.  They do not work.  You can press the keys down but they don't type any letters or symbols of any kind.
I cannot log in because I can't type my password as the keys don't work.
I can't do a PRAM reset because the  P and R keys and others don't work.
I don't know what an SMC reset is but I can't do that either because the keys don't work.
Why would a keyboard stop functioning?  Yesterday, it was just fine.  Now it doesn't work.
What causes the caps lock key to stay on?
I have unplugged the keyboard etc, but nothing changed.
Doesn't anyone know how to correct this problem?  Do I just need to buy a new keyboard?
I called Apple but they were closed.

Please read teh directions for an SMC reset:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Some keys not working on wired full keyboard

I recently got hold of a new-style wired keyboard that has the numeric keypad. When I plug it in most of the keys work fine, but the "return" and "caps lock" keys seem to do nothing. I think mechanically they are okay, I suspect there's some kind of key mapping problem.
I've checked the Input Sources section in System Preferences but selecting things like "US Extended" seems to have no effect.

    Hello:
    Who manufactures the
new-style wired keyboard that has the numeric keypad
If it is third-party, the manufacturer is the best source of information.

  • Wired Keyboard: Right Arrow Key Not Working Properly

The right arrow key on my new wired keyboard doesn't work on the first press. After the initial press it works, and if I'm only using the arrow keys themselves it works fine too. But otherwise it takes two presses to move the cursor initially.

I found the problem, at least for my keyboard. Open Keyboard Viewer from the International menu, the one that displays a flag.
Tap the right arrow key lightly. Nothing happens on the viewer. Tap any other key lightly. They display just fine. Now, give the right arrow key a firmer tap. You should see that it registers every time as long as you tap it a little harder than the other keys.
So, at least in my case, it is keyboard specific. That probably explains why some have the problem and other's don't. I will exchange this keyboard for another one until I finally get one that works. Thank God for "Keyboard Viewer" or I never would have nailed this down.
Poor quality control at play here me thinks.
