T-minus Countdown in Motion???

Hey Guys
Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to create a T-minus style countdown timer in motioin. It has to countdown from 3:00:00 (m:ss:ff)to 0:00:00. I mean I could painstakingly key frame hundreds of frames and change the text in a text field but that would be ridiculous. If anyone knows a good plugin(preferabbly free or reasonably priced) or just a clever way of doing it could you post it here?
I need this project finished by tomorrow so a quick response would be very much appreciated.
Anyway Thanks in Advance
Derek

Oh, and if you want it, I modified the TCGen plugin in FCP to allow you to select the separators, the font, and the leading text (if any). You can get it here: http://pistolerapost.com/viewing/tcgen2.zip

    How do I create a fitness countdown in motion 5 that is similar to p90 x or insanity?

    Google my friend...
    I think this is what you want... made this in a few secs.
    Library... Generators... Timecode.
    Set the text properties for the Timecode text. Use a mono space text, Courier. Turned off background color if you wish.
    Clone the Timecode layer (turn off the original Timecode layer)
    Properties... Timing... Reverse.
    As for the bar graph... There probably a right way to do this and I probably didn't do it right. I just made a bar graph with an outline and fill, duped it. The top bar graph with outline no fill, bottom bar graph fill no outline. Keyed the bottom bar graph to travel from right to left. Cloned the bar graph layer and placed a mask (revered) to cover the red bar as it traveled to the right. You can add tick marks with text to the bar graph.

  • Helping making countdown in Motion 3

    Hello I am trying to make a new years countdown in motion 3. I tried using the Templete "Clockwork" from motion library and set the timing to 1:00 in the inspector. The problem is after 10 seconds the template disappears. Also what is the best way to Make numbers countdown in motion from 60-1? Do I have to set a new for each second in motion? Any help would be appreciated

    I see so if I do a 60 second countdown I will have to have 60 text tracks.
    That seems like a lot for a project like this..is there a easier faster way?
    It's only "a lot" if you don't need the control and fun of controlling the elements. You can build a timecode countdown in FCP, export it, and mask out everything except the numbers you want. You can use After Effects. Or, as noted, you can purchase third party filters or use Flash. Motion's a difficult application to grasp for your first hundred projects.

  • Does Motion come with a film leader countdown?

    I thought at one time I seen a .mov file in Motion that had that countdown. Does anyone know how I can get one of those countdowns you see in the begging of a film reel?
    Thanks

    well good luck with that. I've been reading up on Objective-C and Xcode. Now that is a STEEP learning curve, not sure if I want to devote the time to it. There are so many other things to do.
    enjoying the iphone though.
    whoops totally off topic now I'll stop

  • Imported Video not in sync with sound. Video in slow motion...

    Hello,
    I am fairly new to Premiere and I wanted to spend some time playing around with it. When I import my videos, the playback is out of sync. The sound is normal but the video is in slow motion so it doesnt sync together. Am I missing something? Using Premiere Pro CS4 and filmed it on a Sony Xacti with MPEG4 AVC sequence.
    Thanks in advance.
    Steve
    Oh by the way, it seems to open and play just fine in any other media player

    Steve,
    Glad that you got some material to practice with. That was your goal here.
    Now, file conversions from compressed source material will usually not yield great quality. Unfortunately, the conversion process, unlike what some would love to believe, does not restore quality to the compressed material. It only changes some of the characteristics, but imporved quality is not one of them. Also, depending on the actual conversion program used, the quality can suffer even more. This is a fact of life in Video.
    Now, when you go to get your camera, there are many great threads on many camera makes and models already posted. If you cannot find info on your considerations, post to get recommendations, based on your budget and what you wish to use the camera for. I'm not positive, but I think that the new Equipment sub-forum would be a good place to ask. Previous posts will not be there yet, but will be in the general forum. Many, but obviously not all, cameras have been discussed in length, and their pluses and minuses have been debated.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Print to video countdown/slate question

    Hey Guys,
    Just finished my first attempt at a TVC. The governing body here in Oz says that if my TVC starts with a black frame (it does - fades up from black) that i need to have in between my countdown and the sart of the Ad Black frames with a white square indicator outside the actionsafe zone..
    I can't see any option to change the 2 secs of black that occur after the countdown.
    Any ideas/tips/help/advice ??
    Pete

    Mate...
    Pure brilliance!.. When I stop beating myself up about why I didn't think of that I'll give it a go..
    THIS is why you are know as the guru 'round here..
    Care to weigh in on my THE VERY BEST Pan/Zoom/thingo post?..
    You were the one who told me some time ago to give up on FCE for Pan/Zoom/ etc (the motion tab in general ) and I assumed at the time it was because of the lack of visual feedback, and that if i perservered like a good boy...
    Well I got pretty adept at driving blind, but the flicker and blinking etc is driving me mad..
    I want the best program - stand alone or plug-in - I don't care what it costs - and I want it on a MAC!

  • Creating a digital countdown clock.

    Hey everyone!
    Sorry for the newbie question, or maybe it's not. I'm trying to create a digital countdown clock for a project and am at my wits end. I've tried using the TCG but it doesn't go nearly high enough (175K hours) and I've tried frame animating one, but that turned into a nightmare....quickly. I've tried using Motion to accomplish the task and am getting nowhere fast. So, the question, does anyone know of a nifty tutorial or (hopefully) macro/plugin I could use to simulate a countdown timer?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Advice on best workflow for large Motion project

    I am a part-time video editor/designer/motion graphics creator/etc. Normally, I work on projects with pieces no longer than 5 minutes, even if the projects themselves might be 30-40 minutes of total material--mostly video support for conferences and awards shows.
    Right now I am embarking upon a mark larger project--10 30-minute segments, each of which is 100% motion graphics. They all involve a speaker against a green screen for the entire segment with the motion graphics keyed in front of and behind him.
    We recorded this directly to hard drive in a studio that had a VT4 (Video Toaster) system, so the best Mac-compatible codec they could provide me for clean green-screening was full-resolution component video. This is giving me great keys, but I also have about 500 GB of raw footage.
    In this project, I need to first edit all the takes from each episode into a clean 30-minute piece, and then add the motion graphics. And this is where my question comes in. It seems to me FCP is much better for editing the raw video, but that Motion is where I want to do just about everything else. I need to somehow bring the video into Motion, because I want to create "real" shadows against my background from my keyed footage.
    When working with a long project, and with a full-resolution codec, what is my smartest workflow? I am trying to spend the least time possible rendering back and forth, and also avoid generating huge in-between files each step of the way. It seems that any way to approach it has plusses and minuses, so I want to hear from people who have been there which path gets me to my goal with the least hassle.

    background from my keyed footage.
    "Real shadows are only faked in Motion. You have many options including a simple drop shadow or a copy of your matte layer filled with a gradient and a gradient blur applied with a distortion filter so it appears to be projected onto the wall. Be sure to take the time to make this a template effect and to keyframe the shadow angle if the foreground subject moves.

    Well, you've got two conflicting interests. One, you have to sync the Motion work with the video of the keyed speaker and, two, you have to edit. But it seems to me that your planning must include lots of design work up front, media you can re-use or modify slightly, text formatting that can be precomped, a large stock of effects you will apply over and over again. Do all of this stuff first.
    You also want to explore working at lower rez through your planning and roughing stages. for instance, there's no reason to pull a full rez copy of your foreground into Motion if all you need to do is sync to his audio and get rough positioning. You can put him over black and export all of his clips using any medium to low rez codec at reduced frame rates and just use the Screen Blend Mode to drop him roughly onto your Motion projects.
    You'll get lots of advice over the next few days. If you're posting to other Motion or motion graphics forums, please do us all a favor and return someday to all of your threads and tell us what you did and what you learned.

  • How to make a 60 second countdown timer

    Hi there.
    Trying to make a clock that counts down from 60 seconds to 0. Displaying it exactly like the 60, 59 ,58, etc.
    How do I do this. I've played with Effect>Text>Number, but I don't get it.
    Anyone wanna give me a clue?
    Bless,
    Chris

    You could also apply the following expression to a Text layer's Source Text property:
    st = 60;
    t = st - time;
    c = timeToTimecode(t);
    c
    The first line defines the st variable to 60 seconds.
    The second line defines the t variable as the start time (st) minus the composition time.
    The third line defines the c variable by converting "t" to timecode.
    The last line prints c
    The result at the first frame of the composition is 00;01;00;00
    The next frame would be 00;00;59;00 providing the composition is running at 30 frames or 29.97 fps.
    You can use the mask tools to hide the frames counter. If your comp is running at a different frame rate you can set the timecode base to any value by writing the third line like this: (this is for 24 fps)
    c = timeToTimecode(t,timecodeBase = 24);
    Your counter will work well with monospaced fonts. The numbers will jump around with most other fonts because the kerning will be changing.
    If your counter needs to start at 60 then just create another text layer and cut to the countdown when it starts. That's a lot less work than writing an expression that will do it and still count frames.
    I hope that this helps.

  • Date countdown reset

    I've been using the below code for a countdown timer that ends on 5th April 2012. However when the countdown reaches this date I'll like it to automatically start counting down to 5th April 2013. Currently it goes into minus numbers. Thanks in advance for any help.
    this.onEnterFrame = function() {
        var today:Date = new Date();
        var currentYear = today.getFullYear();
        var currentTime = today.getTime();
        var targetDate:Date = new Date(currentYear,3,5);
        var targetTime = targetDate.getTime();
        var timeLeft = targetTime - currentTime;
        var sec = Math.floor(timeLeft/1000);
        var min = Math.floor(sec/60);
        var hrs = Math.floor(min/60);
        var days = Math.floor(hrs/24);
        sec = String(sec % 60);
        if (sec.length < 2) {
        sec = "0" + sec;
        min = String(min % 60);
        if (min.length < 2) {
        min = "0" + min;
        hrs = String(hrs % 24);
        if (hrs.length < 2) {
        hrs = "0" + hrs;
        days = String(days);
        var counter:String = days + "  " + hrs + "  " + min + "  " + sec;
        time_txt.text = counter;

    currentYear wasn't defined in my last message.  this is a more efficient countdown timer that doesn't require repeated creation of new dates:
    var today:Date = new Date();
    var currentYear = today.getFullYear();
    var currentTime = today.getTime();
    var targetDate:Date = new Date(currentYear, 3, 5);
    var targetTime = targetDate.getTime();
    var startTime:Number = getTimer();
    this.onEnterFrame = function() {
        timeLeft = targetTime-currentTime-getTimer()+startTime;
        if (timeLeft<0) {
            targetDate = new Date(currentYear+1, 3, 5);
            targetTime = targetDate.getTime();
            timeLeft = targetTime-currentTime;
            startTime = getTimer();
        timeLeft/=1000;
        var days:Number = Math.floor(timeLeft/(60*60*24));
        var hrs:Number = Math.floor((timeLeft-days*24*60*60)/(60*60));
        var min:Number = Math.floor((timeLeft-days*60*60*24-hrs*60*60)/60);
        var sec = Math.floor(timeLeft-days*60*60*24-hrs*60*60-min*60);
        time_txt.text = formatF(days)+"  "+formatF(hrs)+"  "+formatF(min)+"  "+formatF(sec);
    function formatF(n:Number):String {
        var s:String = n.toString();
        while (s.length<2) {
            s = "0"+s;
        return s;

  • On-Screen Countdown Timer in Premiere Pro CS3?

    Greetings.  I have been assigned a small video job for a local church.  Essentially, I need to have about 3 minutes of video showing pictures and a "countdown timer" to cue the church attendees of how much time remains before the service starts.  Essentially, it's a gentle "get to your seats now" kind of prompting.
    I've got the project laid out with pictures and words.  What I really need is the ability to have an attractive "T-minus" kind of countdown timer showing each second, starting at 3 minutes.
    Does such a technique or tool exist within Premiere Pro CS3?
    I thank you kindly.  Thanks for reading.  Cheers!
    Todd

    The effect is not native to Premiere.  You may be able to tweak the Timecode effect to suit your needs, but I've never tried it myself.
    After Effects may also have something, but I'm less familiar with that program.

  • Keypad does not "countdown beep" after "stay" mode is armed...

    I do not hear any beeps coming from the keypad when I activate the "stay" or "away" arming modes.  I have to use the "stay" feature most of the time I arm because the motion sensors go off when my dog walks around.  Seems oddd there is no noise.

    No beeps heard when arming in stay mode is the expected behavior. Typically this arming type is used when you are still in the home therefore an audible countdown before the system is armed is not needed.
    Have you tried contacting Digital Life Support to they can help adjust the sensitivity settings of the motion sensor? This should help with your pet.

  • AE Compositor Link & 3ds Max Motion Blur Flip

    Hi,
    I have imported an object into AE via the compositor link and state sets in 3ds Max. However the key frames come in as held key frames so I have to first fix that. Does anyone know why they might come in as square key frames instead of diamond shaped ones? Here is an Autodesk tutorial that clearly shows the imported object having diamond shaped key frames without having to change them. Using State Sets - Part 8 - Working with Solids and PSD files - YouTube
    But the big problem I am unable to fix is when I apply motion blur to the object. At certain key frames the object flips see a screen shot here: https://assets.adobe.com/link/8eb67d7d-88e0-4ce5-a1e9-4d24802f1dd0?section=activity_public.
    It appears that the rotation swaps from being a plus to a minus value in AE at certain key frames causing the object motion blur to get confused. I have spoken to Autodesk support and they are stumped at when could be the cause and suggested I ask here as it may be an AE problem and not 3ds Max. Here is a link to the AE file: https://assets.adobe.com/link/6bceafc4-5410-44ef-9328-bb8011e4a86f?section=activity_public
    Thanks,

    Thanks for the help guys. The problem was in Max, I don't know exactly what, the Gamma settings looked fine to me. To fix it I just deleted the Save State and it's Output file and Targa. Then remade them. My guess is when I changed the exposure control it screwed everything up.
    I also played around with masking, just getting to know what I have to do before I do it.
    Yes, no color correction has been done, even the placement of the Windmill isn't final, this was just for practice and preparation. I am curious as to HOW I should color correct this, I'm still not sure if I want the video darker or more colorful....
    Mylenium, I'll look into the Rotobrushing and Refine Edge, and thanks Rick for the link, I'll watch it sometime soon!

  • Motion Clock going offline for no apparent reason.

    i have a motion file of a countdown clock, downloaded from Industrial Revolution and adapted for my own use.
    It went offline yesterday, and I figured I had done something silly in error without knowing. This morning it has just done it again twice - for no apparent reason.
    I imported it into my project via the browser, dropped in the timeline, rendered, all smiles. Then within a few minutes a alert appears telling me its gone offline.
    Any ideas?
