T Mobile Hotspot Video Chat

I am having difficulties initiating a video chat with my daughter in NY. I am receiving the "....did not respond" message mentioned by others on this sight. No Luck from her dorm room (I think the university blocks the video ports). We then tried a T-Mobile hotspot, has any one had success from one of these locations?
In the past I have been able to initiate video chats with some people and not others from my home computer.
Any info or help would be appreciated.
Joe

Hi Joe,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
Lets start with you.
Ralph Johns (UK), "FAQ: Want to Test your iSight With Another Person?", 10:18am Dec 14, 2004 CDT Current FAQ on test accounts and Real testers.
Can you get to all of the test accounts ?
Can you chat to some of the Testers ?
What modem do you have?
What method (if any) have you used to open the ports for ichat AV chats ?
Your daughter should check with the operaters of any WiFi spot that they have the ports open for iChat AV.
(5060, 5190, 5678, 16384-16403)
It would pay her to ask the IT guys at the Uni if these ports are open (as listed above).
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 Apple Doc on the subject. Not all these ports are needed if she is not chatting over Bonjour to other Macs at the dorm. (5297, 5298, 5353) or if she is not using Jabber (5220, 5220, 5223).
Further info for her http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page3.html She obviusly has not got access to the modem/Connection device the Uni is using but it has the info she needs and is effectively an expalnation of the Apple Doc.

  • In future Iphone4 will support video chatting with other Mobile phone

    Hi ,
    Whether iphone4 will allow video chatting with other Mobile phones like Nokia,Samsung,etc..,in future kindly clarify

    Apple already announced, as an earlier poster stated, that they have made the FaceTime spec/protocol available to anyone who wants to use it. Apple doesn't have to do anything.

  • During a demo today could not use Messages for video chat or screen share - what dumb thing was I doing wrong?

    I was giving a demo / class today for some people in a volunteer group I work for. They all got new MacBook Airs or MacBook Pros, and I got a MacBook Pro because I am going to be going into explain how to use them.
    Most everythng went well, but one really cool thing I do all the time from home on my iMac I couldn't get to work. That part of the lesson was a disaster, though fortunately everything else went well.
    I'd like to figure out what dumb thing I was doing wrong so I can show them next week.
    I know we have to sign in with AOL accounts for screen sharing to work in Messages. So first I had everybody sign up for a free AOL account. That went fine.
    Then we all logged in using our accounts. That went fine for everybody except one person. We could all see each other online, with little video cameras next to our names in the Buddy List. One person never showed up anywhere for some reason.
    But we could not do either video chats or successfully request to share other peoples' screens, which I do all the time at home to help other people with their Macs.
    One person could not even see any requests from me pop up. One person could see my requests come in and accepted them, but nothing happened after that.
    Ordinary message chats were working ok.
    Things I already thought of:
    1. Perhaps the wi-fi in the bulding was blocking some ports? Just in case, I turned on mobile hotspot (tethering) on my iPhone 5 and had everybody connect to my network. But the results were the same, so it wasn't that.
    2. I wasn't sure it mattered, but in Settings > Sharing I made sure that everbody had screen sharing turned on. And just in case, even though I don't have this set from home, I further made sure everybody had "anyone may request to control the screen" checked.
    While I could do local network sharing of screens (via the Devices list in the Finder side panel), I couldn't for the life of me get it to work with Messages. But I've been doing this for years from home to help my sister and other people across town with their Mac by doing screen sharing this way and taking over their screen.
    It must be something dumb I'm overlooking. Anybody know what it is?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Problem solved, finally, by AppleCare support!
    I gave up trying to reach the "English support line" guy located in Manila and decided to insist on plain old Japanese support here in Tokyo and explained the problem from scratch.
    First we tried all the usual suspects, but nothing we did could get it to work. Then we did an ARA (Apple Remote Access) support session. This was the first time I ever did this. Quite cool, and very useful.
    At first we still could not figure out what was wrong, but finally isolated the problem to the way my AOL account name was entered.
    When I added the AOL account to my Messages app, all I did was enter my username part. I didn't add the @aol.com part, because I never did that on my iMac. However, Messages kept on automatically adding "@aol.com" to the end of the AIM account name.
    The Apple tech person got me to try once again to get rid of the @aol.com part of the account name. We:
    1. Disabled the account.
    2. Manually deleted the @aol.com, leaving just my AIM name.
    3. Restarted my MacBook Pro (very quick, by the way, and also immediately brought back his ARA session).
    This time the @aol.com part remained gone, and I was able to test connecting to my iMac, which has a different AIM account set. It worked!
    I was able to do screen sharing via Messages! And also do video chat via Messages. Yay!
    So much thanks to Watabe-san at Apple support. The people I am teaching will be happy to see this working on Sunday, because it really is a very useful tool for assisting people remotely.

  • Video Chatting and Internet Sharing at the same time.

    Does anyone know why video chat communication cannot be established while internet sharing, or how to remedy this problem by (what I imagine would be) opening/closing/redirecting a few ports?
    More specifically:
    I share my ethernet connection through my airport connection to my iphone with the ip host/client scheme of 10.10.0.1/10.10.0.2.
    If I don't turn internet sharing off, a video chat connection cannot be established.

    Would you want any phone call due to come to you to go to both your landline and your mobile/cell phone particularly if you did not have both together ?
    It is mostly about the specific needs of iChat needing to be able to place the computer in a specific place compared to the rest of the Internet.
    If you have your Cell phone divert to your Home phone or vice versa how do you know it has also not been answered ?
    More to the point how do you know that someone answering a call you have made to them has not been answered by someone else ?
    In practice you know only one phone can be answered because of the mechanisms put in place that allows you to make the link between cell and Landline.
    It is same for the process used to connect iChat to an iChat Buddy. It makes sure the Network has been set up correctly and is secure.
    It is less about making two connections to the internet in the belief it will be twice as fast.
    (Check a Download in a web Browser and see if it is really any faster with two connections or if Web Browsing is any faster.)

  • Error in Video Chat app in Android

    Hi all,
    I am trying to build Video Chat application for android in flex 4.5 using  LiveCycle Collaboration Services. I have created new flex mobile application and used following code in mxml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Application  xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:cs="http://ns.adobe.com/rtc" currentState="logon" fontSize="28">
        <fx:Script>
            [Bindable] private var roomURL:String = "https://collaboration.adobelivecycle.com/newjignesh/myfirstroom";
            protected function connect():void {
                auth.userName = userName.text;
                currentState = "default";
                session.login();
        </fx:Script>
        <s:states>
            <s:State name="default"/>
            <s:State name="logon"/>
        </s:states>
    <fx:Declarations>
    <cs:AdobeHSAuthenticator id="auth"/>
    </fx:Declarations>
    <s:TextInput id="userName" includeIn="logon" top="200" horizontalCenter="0"/>
    <s:Button label="Connect" click="connect()" includeIn="logon" top="250" horizontalCenter="0" height="50" width="150"/>
    <cs:ConnectSessionContainer id="session" roomURL="{roomURL}" authenticator="{auth}" autoLogin="false" width="100%" height="100%" includeIn="default">
    <cs:WebCamera top="10" left="10" bottom="10" right="10"/>
    </cs:ConnectSessionContainer>
    </s:Application>
    I have also added lccs.swf and source folder. I was not able to compile the code due to error:
    'ConnectSessionContainer' declaration must be contained within the <Declarations> tag, since it is not assignable to the default property's element type 'mx.core.IVisualElement'.
    Can anybody please suggest why I am getting this error.

    Hi,
    Actually that much of the log is akin to telling a motor mechanic "It goes Clunk"
    Can you copy the Log from Users/(your account)/Library/Logs and post most of it.
    stop at the line that says "Binary Images for iChat" as the bits below that are not useful at this stage.
    If it says Error 8 in the top paragraph it could be that ports or your LAN needs sorting out.
    Knowing what routing devices you are using (Makes and models) and what you have done to set them up would also be helpful.

  • VERY slow mobile Hotspot connection?

    I recently purchased the 4510L LTE mobile hotspot as it was that or dial up. I have been getting download speeds that generally cap out at about 100 KBps. That seems very slow for this area, with 3G coverage. I am always at 3 or 4 bars of service and am unsure if this is standard for that or if I am for some reason getting incredibly slow internet.

    MyUnluckyDay wrote:
    Yes, I have tried to move it around the house and that helped in a very very small way. I just don't think my area is really cut out for this type of service, I recently discovered that there is one company that offers DSL and hopefully I can get that. I luckily still have time on my 14 days and hope that I don't have any trouble returning and canceling my service.
    Thanks to the community member for your input.
    Hi MyUnluckyDay,
    Have you kept trying to use your mobile hotspot to see if the speeds improved? Are you using a laptop with the connection that has an Anti Virus program running at the time slow speed occurs? If so, please try clearing the cache on your web browser and disable your Anti Virus program and retry using the hotspot to see if this improves the speed of your connection. Speeds can vary depending on what your doing on the connection such as downloading a large application or streaming videos, etc.  Also, there was a software update released on September 1st that can help with the connection issues. Here is a direct link to our website that will provide steps on how to obtain the software update. I hope these suggestions can help with your concerns.

  • Video Chat Application : Problem downstream on ios device

    Hi
         I made real time video chat application between mobile (ios and android device with flash builder 4.7 on flex 4.6.0 and adobe air 15) and flash desktop website (flash builder 4.6, on flex 4.6.0 air 4.0).   It's almost done, but there is a problem only ios device subscribe stream is very lag for the first time that video streaming start.   Sometime it is stop for several time before it can be play that stream. I find the cause of it such as network, flash desktop build version, buffer (it's very smooth but there is problem when you press home button while using video chat, It's stream is gone T^T)
    I have the example of downstream :
    // ------------ sample code that using netstream ------------
    if(subscribeNetStream == null)
      subscribeNetStream = new NetStream(subscribeNetConnection);
      trace("Initial for playing agent video")
      subscribeNetStream.client = {onMetaData:function(obj:Object):void{}};
      // display metadata
      var clientMetaData:Object = new Object();
      clientMetaData.onMetaData = function(info:Object):void{
      trace("onMetaData");
      // print debug information about the metaData
      for (var propName:String in info){
      trace("  "+propName + " = " + info[propName]);
      subscribeNetStream.client = clientMetaData;
      // trace the NetStream status information
      subscribeNetStream.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, subscribeNetStatusHandler);
      // set the buffer time to zero since it is chat
      subscribeNetStream.bufferTime = 0;
      // subscribe to the named stream
      subscribeNetStream.play("Stream_name");
      // attach to the stream
      if(!videoSubscriber){
      videoSubscriber = new Video(uicAgent.width, uicAgent.height);
      videoSubscriber.attachNetStream(subscribeNetStream);
      uicAgent.addChild(videoSubscriber);
    ------------------- netstream/netconnection handle method ----------------------------
    private function subscribeNetStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void{
      trace(event.currentTarget+" : "+event.info.clientid+" : Subscribe netStatus = "+event.info.code+"\n "+event.info.description);
      switch(event.info.code) {
      case "NetConnection.Connect.Success":
      trace("Success to play");
      playStream();
      break;
      case "NetStream.Buffer.Empty" :
      if(holdingNetStream)
      holdingNetStream.seek(0);
      default:
      break;
    // --------- End of sample code ------------------
    I have no idea for solving this problem please suggest me
    Thank you

    Check this page out for a list of apps available in a certain region on the PlayBook:
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?noCount=true&externalId=KB27203&sliceId=2&cm...
    As for why it would be on your old PlayBook, I've noticed that early releases included all the apps - and then that was changed. The only two ways to get around this is to either sideload the video chat app or use a proxy in another country to set up your new PlayBook.

  • What's needed to video chat in iChat?

    A friend of mine has a new iMac. She wanted to video chat with me. I have a Mobile Me account and she just has an account from Yahoo.
    What does she have to get on her computer to video chat? She really can't do the MobileMe account and does not want to get involved with AOL, so what are her options.

  • Is facebook video chat in Ipad4 supported by Apple?

    I got an Ipad 4 and want to use facebook video chat but can't find a video sign at all in any page of my facebook.

    Apple has nothing to do with any features of the Facebook app - that app is made by Facebook and questions regarding its use should be directed to Facebook.
    However, as far as I know Facebook have not yet implemented video chat in their mobile apps.

  • Is there a video chat app that can use the Charge's front facing camera?

    Is there a video chat app that can use the Charge's front facing camera?
    Edit: for video chat between the Charge and a PC.
    Thanks!

    I tried Tango, Qik, and ooVoo.
    The only one that can use the Charge's front facing camera AND video chat with a PC is the ooVoo.
    Works perfectly!
    Tango and Qik ad mobile-to-mobile only at this time.
    Thanks!
    P.S.   .... this really makes me wonder why Skype cannot work with the front facing camera if other
    companies can do it on the Froyo?  I guess Skype developers are really lazy(or have no incentive
    to make it work)

  • Using lync video chat internationally

    My girlfriend will be going to Mexico for vacation in a few weeks but we want to stay in contact. I use Lync at work so I know the capabilities, but will it be possible for us to use video chat feature while she is in mexico with no charge? I plan to use
    our iPads. She will have wifi available so that will not be a problem.

    Hi,
    Did you use Lync Server 2010 or 2013?
    Lync mobile 2010 doesn’t support video with others.
    Did your girlfriend in the same company with you and also has a Lync account?
    If the sever is Lync Server 2013 and Edge server has deployed, you can do video calls with your others.

  • HP (Palm) Pre 2 and mobile hotspot question

    HP had their webOS event Wednesday and the word is that the Pre 2 will be available for pre-order on Verizon today (Feb 10). I am certainly interested, but I have a question:
    Will the Mobile Hotspot feature be free like it is on the Pre Plus?

    http://www.precentral.net/verizon-pre-2-now-available-free-mobile-hotspot-still-tow
    This is really confusing. From precentral.net (above link), it said the 3g hot spot feature is free and confirmed.
    PalmPre2_4Me wrote:I'm looking for an answer on this as well.  I just chatted with Verizon, they didn't know anything about at first, but did research it.  Told me that while it isn't listed as a checkout option, customer service would add it for an additional $20.
    Now for the confusion, off the HP/Palm site, which links to a Verizon page, I found the following for the Pre 2:
    Support Up To 5 WiFi-enabled Devices (3G Mobile Hotspot Service Included Free)
    Now, I'm looking to upgrade ahead of the Palm Pre 3 - since I'm betting with that release the Mobile Hotspot feature wouldn't be free.  If anyone has any better info and would share, I would be most appreciative.  I want to get the new device, but for an additional $240/yr, not sure it is worth it.  Plus if I wait 3/6 months, the new device would be here and I might as well just upgrade then.
    Thanks for any insight you might be able to provide!

  • IPhone 4 skype video chat

    All my friends have skype and I'm the only one with an iPhone 4 so I can't video chat with any of them is there any guess to when skype video can be used on the iPhone 4 or if it will ever happen?

    Quoted from Skype:
    "Skype is the market leader and champion of video calling for consumers and it's clear to us that mobile video will become increasingly important to our customers in the coming year. We are glad to see that Apple recognizes the value and potential of mobile video.
    However, just to be clear, we are not considering FaceTime as a technological platform for video calling in our own products. Based on Apple's statement about FaceTime being an open platform, we are looking forward to see how this process unfolds. We look forward to working with Apple to bring the best possible mobile video calling experience not only to the millions of Skype users on the iPhone around the world, but also to the countless more making video calls on desktops, TVs and other connected devices."
