T shirt design

Ok So I have this image in illustrator which I quite like.
I want to make a t shirt design from it but the t shirt design only allows for 3 colours (4 inclusing the background of the T shirt).
I want to preserve how these colours interact.
I hope you undetand what I mean, I could just put each effect at 100% opacity and change every colour to one of 3 but then I would loose a lot of the grungy look of the shapes interacting with eachother that I like.
So I am looking for something bit like this (rushed in photoshop still to many colours)
Or this
I think I might have to use dithering patterns/half tonning any help on this would also be greatly appreicated.
Thanks in advance,
Simon

Are you talking about plain filled path objects?
Do you mean as a resut. I guess so yes.
I was thinking 4 layers. A background layer the colour of the shirt and 3 other layers each containing plain filled single coulour paths.
However at the moment I have;
A path with apperience settings applied to it (I guess I could expand apperance then I'd have a load of paths). There is a semi transparent gradient underneath. Undereath that some paths that draw part of a mountain. And a grunge texture at the bottom (I guess this will have to go as it is a jpg)
Also, which version of Illustrator are you using?

  • Need support to develop a Web Application-T Shirt Designer

    Hello Everyone
I am new here. So a big hello to all of you.
Well, I am writing here because I urgently need an expert opinion on the matter mentioned below. And I would be glad if I could receieve some professional advice on this forum.
I have to create  an online T shirt Designer (a Visual Configurator), i.e.a web based application where the user will be able to select the various elements of a T shirt such as color, text, graphics etc and visualize the same in real time and then place the order for the product. Here the cost will be automatically added at diferent stages i.e. when a text/graphic is selected while the shipping cost is added at the stage of check out . Finally as per the total cost, the final payment is made through the payment gateway.
Now my question is which adobe product would be best for designing this visual configurator considering the following points.
    1. This visual configuartor has to be first designed and then embedded on an E commerce website as a web application.
    2. Like any other T shirt designer, the images will be swapped/changed. So mainly the development would involve creating a layout/structure wherein a certain process or series can be systematically organized to help a user configure the product.
    3. This configurator application would involve mathematical calculation i.e. adding costs at different  stages. So business rules will have to be applied and a payment gateway has to be integrated with the application.
Mostly the online T shirt designer softwares I have seen are based on Flash. But I am not sure if this is the best product for my requirement.
    Would greatly appreciate support.
    Thanks
    Mini

I am trying to build a T-shirt designer for a sportswear
company. They require the ability to change various areas of
    different design T-shirt using a drag-and-drop facility.
They also require the ability to send the fully designed

    send the image.
Is there a way that this can be done?

  • Quick Help for T-Shirt Design

I'm working on a fairly simple T Shirt design (family reunion).  I have the full Adobe Suite in CS5.  I'm assuming I need a transparent background (rather that white), so I'm working in Illustrator.  I also assume vector will help with scaling for small kids and womens shirts.  I'm having a hard time getting a black and white tree converted over to a transparent background in Illustrator.  I don't really want to do a manual live trace since there is so much detail, and I'm assuming I should be able to do the black and white image to transparent background with one of the auto features.
I did get all the "outside" erased, but then I couldn't get all the white interior closed paths turned transparent.  I've spent too much time researching and hoping someone can give me a quick answer.  I did try to highlight closed paths and do Path->Divide Objects Below one-at-a-time, but I couldn't make it work effectively.
First, here is a basic black and white draft where I spent a few minutes to get family to like the idea...I used MS Pub to make it quickly.  Saved as PDF for those that don't have MS Pub.
    https://db.tt/Nu4xNNpp
Next, here is the AI file without the tree.  (I'm going to make the small names in the circle transparent, but I haven't got to that yet.  I did research how to do it.)
    https://db.tt/BlamaL5S
Finally, here is the tree I would like to add to make it like the PDF above. (GIF Format)
    https://db.tt/GXP3XIJw
If you are curious, this is as far as I got trying to turn the tree into a vector and then making it transparent background.  Again, I assume this is best option for screen printing. (AI Format - after I worked on it)
    https://db.tt/6WBXWVgB
Can someone please save me 8 more hours and tell me the easy way to add the stupid tree with transparent background?  Thanks for the help.  Getting very frustrated...

    r,
Have you tried the setting Ignore White?
Have you expanded the Live Trace to be able to work with the paths?
Presuming the (interior) white areas form separate paths, what about Select>Same>Fill Color, then change to None?

Are you condoning the use of copyrighted material by sourcing any images online? This seems really weird thing to tell people to do. Images created by others are copyrighted by them. And those free vector packs some have restrictions that they can't be used commercially.
And none of that went into any detail on how to prepare artwork for t-shirt printing? All that video showed was how to rip-off other people's artwork and move an item below a layer.
    Really poor.

  • 3 Colour T-Shirt design from full colour image

    Hi
I am designing a T Shirt for my ski club.
I have taken an image from a banner (made in illustrator, full colour image attached) and I want to devide into a 3 colour image for the t shirt (I am only allowed 3 colours for printing).
The colours I want to use are black, white and purple. The colour of the t shirt is a light blue.
I want to then put the purple logo on top of the white and black too.
So I'm after a black and white grunge background with a punchy purple logo on the top.
All of this should be on a tranparent or, for design purposes, light bue (same as T Shirt colour) background.
So my question is how to split a full colour image into using only 3 (4 including transparent/light blue background) exact colours.
If I were going to black and white I might convert to grey scale and then paint areas to fully white or fully black using an overlay brush I don't think this helps me for more than just black and white though.
I have attached two of my attempts where I used the colour range selection and level adjustments. Niether was really successful though (one does not use the right colours or number of colours but looks quite cool).
Also I would obviously like to keep it as dynamic as possible to allow me to make little tweaks and changes at the end.
I hope this is clear enough with the attached images too.
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon

I achived this by inverting your source image, shifting hue 180 degrees, saving for web as png8, changing number of colors to 4, and changinf one of the colrs to white, then changing
another color two black.   you then have a 4 color png that can be seperated cleanly back in photoshop.
I know its not exaclty how you wanted it as the shirt background should be blue and not white as is my example. But you can probably use this method to create what you want quickly.

  • Absolute beginner: shirt design related questions

hi all. i thought i'd be as detailed as possible to give you an idea of what my questions are:
i have some hand-drawn art/design for a t-shirt. so i took some pictures, and my daughter opened them up in photoshop elements 6. she was able to easily trace over my pencil lines, BUT the lines were not smooth at all. say i drew a circle. it is not so much that it is not a perfect circle, especially if free-handed, but that the edges of the line of that circle are not smooth.
turns out elements can't do that, after i called adobe. they suggested illustrator, which i am currently demo'ing. when i had my daughter (she's 17, been playing with elements rather well) try to do it illustrator, it wasn't as intuitive as both of us thought. it's gotten her stumped.
for the most part, that's all i want to do. pull up a picture of a hand-drawn sketch, and draw it in illustrator with some smooth lines. i would very much appreciate some guidance on what to do!
    stumped!
    THANKS IN ADVANCE.
    jack

    Jack,
When you start from scratch in this kind of program, you just have to read the instructions. Otherwise, you'll be floundering about forever being confused. Vector drawing programs like Illustrator are not immediately intuitive to someone who is accustomed only to working in raster image programs (i.e.; Photoshop, etc.).
Vector graphics is the "other half" of the computer graphics world. In a program like Illustrator, you're not recoloring pixels; you're creating and manipulating objects, most of which are mathematically-defined shapes called paths. You draw paths, give them strokes and/or fills, move them about, stack them, scale them, arrange them so that together they comprise a piece of artwork.
Go to the help files, start at the beginning, read through it like a book, perform the operations described. You'll then get the conceptual principles down and start using the thing with much less frustration. It will take time. This isn't the kind of graphics program you just dive into blind, have someone tell you a few command sequences, and start doing productive work in. You have to read the instructions.

  • Community hoodies/t-shirts design

    Hi guys,
    How is it going?
I'm going to need your help for a project...
We were thinking on producing some more community hoodies or t-shirts to show off that we are proud to be part of the O2 Community and to say a little thanks to everyone who makes this place great. Some of you may remember receiving O2 Community hoodies last year and we want to do it again!!
    http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Discussions-Feedback/Hoodie-Goodies/m-p/490044/highlight/true#M35370
I'd like to encourage you to share your thoughts to help us on the design of them.
Let's start from the begging: What would you guys prefer, hoodies or t-shirts?
Apart from the logo of the community, what would you suggest as a slogan for our O2 Community?
Do you have any ideas about cool designs you'd like to see on our t-shirts?
We are open to any kind of suggestions so feel free to add anyting and BE CREATIVE!
Looking forward to hear your feedback!

    Thank you for the feedback
Aright, it seems that most of the people prefer a hoodie, so let's think about its design. Then we can always adapt it to t-shirts for the summer collection
What about the slogans? Have you seen  proposals? Any other creative mind?
I do like the idea of customizing them to each of the users, maybe as was saying with usernames or real first names printed on the back. Any other ideas?
Colors?  was proposing blue white or grey. I think those colors represent the forum really well
    Zip, yes or no?
    Hood yes or no?
    Pockets?
    Monochrome?
    Below some examples:
Keep the thoughts and opinions coming guys!

  • T-Shirt designing #2: How do I change the background of my image?

    Using CS6...
I'm also using the t-shirt template.
On my screen is a t-shirt with a small rectangle inside of it. And another large rectangle beside it. I plan on making my image inside of the large rectangle (which is also the guide).
Right now it is white but I would like to change it to different colors and I would need for this color to be part of the image once completed. I tried clicking on stuff (everything is highlighted) but the background color within the guide never changes.
    Can someone provide the steps?
    Sincerely,
    Rookie

    Wdautrion, Christ-Guard, others,
I originally skipped this thread because I assumed it was about the specifics of certain T-Shirt templates, based on the related #1 thread.
However, its seemingly going on and on made me finally read it, and ponder.  I believe a few things are worth adding, even if it may seem too long already.
As I read the OP, it is simply a question about a rectangular Guide (a Guide that was originally created as a rectangle) which may seem to have a white fill and the wish to switch to another colour, to form a background that is part of the artwork.
Had I read the OP before anything else had happened, I believe my answer would (just as simply) have been something like:
Guides are non printing, and they have no fill. You can see that if you View>Show (Transparency) Grid.
To get a corresponding coloured rectangular fill that forms part of the artwork, you may:
    1) Drag with the rectangle Tool from the top left to the bottom right of the Guide rectangle,
    2) Set the fill colour as desired and no Stroke,
    3) Lock the rectangle to avoid selecting it (until the artwork is finished).
There are other ways, but I should prefer this to others that may require more explanation (such as a few involving releasing of the Guide).
Other aspects of the thread are ways of learning, and of efforts/attitudes, including using the manual/helpfile.
It is worth mentioning that the link in post #11 refers to only three out of four learning styles (VAK instead of VARK), the fourth being reading & writing. This is (just) one of many models, as it appears from this Wikipedia article (which also leaves the forurth one out):
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learning_styles#Neil_Fleming.27s_VAK.2FVARK_model
A fuller VARK explanation may be seen here:
    http://psychology.about.com/od/educationalpsychology/a/vark-learning-styles.htm
I mention this because there is a crucial difference between visual and reading & writing, which I believe is important for this thread.
Whichever faith anyone may have in such models, I believe there are significant differences in how different people learn.
I also believe that no learning style should be frowned upon.
I am convinced that some of the difficulties in mutual understanding, and in writing/reading posts, arise from such differences.
With regard to efforts/attitudes, it is important to work smarter, not harder,
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Performance_consulting
but what that means  rather depends on learning and working style(s). What is best and most efficient for one may appear as laziness, or as hard work, or as silliness, for another.
Also, it may be argued that, depending on the actual task, the use of some features/procedures, maybe especially some of the easy ones in later versions, may be considered either efficiency or laziness/sloppiness.
With regard to using the manual/helpfile, RTFM is a small effort for some, a greater or even forbidding one for others. Probably most would agree that it is much easier to use when you get used to to it and/or have known Illy for a while and know your way round.
I only remember one instance, in another forum, with a poster actually declaring himself that he was lazy; and he was gently and friendly but clearly told to work on his attitude, which he agreed upon.
You may say that all this is easy for me to say, because I am lucky to actually enjoy the challenge of finding ways to brídge differences and difficulties in learning, here and elsewhere. Some of what I do is to help and teach across styles. One recent urgent and pleasant challenge was a mid afternoon phone call from a carpenter about a simple crude (too) steep staircase/(step)ladder fitting a certain space; he was completely at a loss. I asked when he was going to build it, and the answer was: "Now". He was on the site, and all he had to work with were some leftover 45x245 mm rafters. I asked for the height from floor to floor (total rise) (2230 mm) and the available horizontal space (containing the total going and then a bit) (1500 mm); 10 minutes later, I could tell him an adapted/failsafe way to shape the stringboards and place the steps, with only four measures to mark, the rest being pure carpentry work, devised while getting the measures from a quick drawing with the help of Illy, of course. He fitted the staircase precisely and was happy (as was the customer), and baffled.
In any case, now I said it.

  • T-SHIRT Design Help!?

    Hey guys,
I was asked by a friend to do a quick piece of work for her. Basically I had to copy a design from a sweatshirt that she got printed awhile back, and since then she lost the original design so asked me to copy it so she could get a new sweatshirt with it printed on. I had no problem copying it, but I realised that the design elements actually need to be transparent. I've included two images and explained more below. If you could help me as soon as possible it would be appreciate massively! (Probably quite simple, but I'm still learning).
Above is a picture of the sweatshirt, you can see that the design elements are transparent.
And here's the rough copy of the design. So what I need to do is somehow make the black pieces transparent??
    Thanks!!

  • How can I link the buy now button in "The Geek Shirt Designer" to my paypal?

I'm currently creating an Adobe Muse ecommerce site where the user can create custom knitted hats.
I was going to make this with a seperate page for each of the possible options, but I did the math, and there are over 15,000 different possible combinations! So I figured a system like the one in the tutorial would be very beneficial!
I've used edge animate a fair amount, but an quite new to coding. (maybe 1 year's experience)
I followed the tutorial and think I understand it all, but I don't know how to link the final script to a paypal button.
Would love some help on this! Many Thanks

    Hi, Ollie-
You can do a buy now button in either by using the rectangle in Animate or by drawing something in Muse.  Either way, you'll need to apply a "payment script" that a payment site like PayPal will give you.
Here's something I found that will help:

  • How to make a design for a whole t-shirt and then make the shirt?

    Hi all,
I have an idea for a t-shirt design that would require that the entire shirt be printed, not just the front and/or back.  I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on:
1.) How I would make the design on Photoshop CS5 (I also have Illustrator CS3, so I could use that.) BTW: If it helps any, it would be one pattern across the whole t-shirt.
2.) How the heck do I get this made up?  Is there a way to make this up at home?  Is there a website like Zazzle that will print on the whole t-shirt?
    Thanks!!

Well #1 is way to ambiguous...... design it however you want as long as it's ready for whatever production processes is used.
#2... No. There are no quick, one-off shops that will do this. In order to have an entire shirt printed, the material is printed flat, then the shirt is cut and sewn from the printed material. This isn't a cheap processes. You might try calling a few local silk screen shops to see if they can refer you to a company that does this. Honestly, unless your'e willing to make a few thousand shirts it's not going to be worth the cost.

  • Graphic Design Software Advice

I have an IMAC G5 with the 'as it came out of the box' software. I am looking to do some T-Shirt designs and so was after a piece of software to assist. Nothing spectacular, just images and text and so I'm hoping not to spend too much money. I am new to Apple and so don't know too much about the software. Is there something already installed on the box that I could use or can someone recommend a simple (cheap of free) piece of software?

Even though you won't be doing the printing, it's a good idea to print the seps. before sending the file off to a printer to make sure everything is separating correctly. Unfortunately, after taking a closer look at Intaglio that I mentioned above, it doesn't look like it will print seps. And it doesn't support Pantone spot colors. So it's probably not going to work for you. Strangdogs is correct - you probably won't find a vector program or any program that does what you want it to do without spending more money than you want to spend.
I use the Adobe CS apps at work on a G5 and also Illustrator 8 via Classic. At home, I use Illustrator 8 via Classic without problems all the time. If you check ebay, you may be able to find a cheap copy of Illustrator 8. We got 2 copies at work that way for under $80 a piece. Just make sure the person you buy it from transfers the license to you. There is a license transfer form they need to fill out.
