T1000 wont boot after firmware upgrade if SCA6000 is connected

Hi guys,
as u may have guessed from the topic, I had a T1000 server with a sun SCA6000 crypto card mounted in the PCI slot. All worked fine until i tryed to upgrade the firmware on the server to the last available release (6.7.8 with patch 139435-06 ) . After the upgrade procedure, the system did not boot anymore. This is the console output with POST after the poweron command:
sc> poweron -c
Enter #. to return to ALOM.

sc> Guessing an hardware compatibility problem, i tried to remove the SCA6000 board and the system booted again without an hassle.
Unluckily, I need the SCA6000, and I don't have any other server in which to mount it, so I tried to downgrade the firmware to the release I had before the upgrade:
firmware version: 6.6.7
patchid: 136928-05
but the system does not boot anymore with the SCA6000 connected. I even tried an older fw release just to be sure (fw 6.6.1, patch 136928-01), with the same result.
I did not find mention of any incompatibility in T1000 or SCA6000 documentation.
Any help would be REALLY appreciated
Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
This looks similar to the bug 6630313 :: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-1-6630313-1
As described in the bug document, it is due to lower f/w rev. on the SCA6000 and solution is to upgrade the crypto card f/w to 1.1.0 /1.1.0 (bootstrap/operational )or later.
Another workaround would be to install system f/w 6.2.4 or 6.2.8 which works well with crypto card f/w 1.0.4/1.0.7.
Copying relevant part of the document for ref.
=======================
Work Around: The card is recognized by obp and prtdiag with firmware 6.2.4, so at this point customer is using firmware 6.2.4 as workaround.
Customer's crypto card is currently running 1.0.4/1.0.7 bootstrap/operational firmware. Customer can upgrade the card to newer firmware such as 1.1.0/1.1.0 by moving card to a system that boots successfully such as Ontario T2000. After such upgrade, install the card back into T1000 which should boot successfully with sysfw 6.4.0, 6.5.5 or 6.5.11 posted on Sunsolve.
Another workaround is customer can downgrade the T1000 sysfw to 6.2.8 so they can boot with the crypto card. After the T1000 is up and running with sysfw 6.2.8, customer can upgrade the crypto card fw to the latest 1.0 patch on the T1000 itself, then upgrade the T1000 sysfw to the latest
version posted on Sunsolve. This workaround does require customer to have access to an Ontario T2000 system.

I upgraded to the latest firmware and it won't reboot now. the power light just keeps blinking.

    Hello lcgrzy,
I recommend trying the following steps:
--Power off unit, remove power cable and re-seat all disks.  Then reconnect the power adapter to attempt to boot up.
--While powered off, swapped the disks to opposite bays. Then see if the unit fully boots after about 5 minutes.
--Try booting the unit one disk at a time to see if either disk will fully boot.
--Try booting the unit one disk at a time to see if the firmware on the unit seems to be ok.
--If the unit does not seem to boot after the above, please call lenovoEMC support.

  • Content Copier wont restore after firmware upgrade

I upgraded my N95 8GB to the latest firmware this morning (30.0.018), took 2 complete backups using Contect Copier V4 prior to doing so, but after the upgrade every attempt to restore contacts, settings, etc has failed.
I've tried doing the recommended re-formatting procedure, followed by a restore, which did not help. I've tried restoring individual items only, instead of the whole lot, which also didn't work.
According to the log at the end of the restore, the restore completed successfully. Reality suggests otherwise though.
    Could anyone please help?
    Thanks,
    Adriaan

Right, I've tried using OVI, which did NOT resolve the problem. In fact, it gave identical results to the content copier included with the nseries suite.
I've written to Nokia support who have replied as follows:
"In this instance, allow me to suggest a few workarounds in order to rectify the issue on hand.
First, I suggest that you delete any data not needed from your Nokia N95 8GB to free up the internal memory of your phone before restoring the backed up file. I would like to also suggest that you select the content files that you want to restore to the Nokia N95 8GB. Once you have connected your Nokia N95 8GB to the PC and launched the "Content Copier" application, please select the content file types that you want restored on the phone.
However, if you are still unable to restore the backed up file to your Nokia N95 8GB, there may be inherent issues with your Nokia N95 8GB that may prevent you doing so. In this case, please take your phone to your nearest Nokia Care Point for an assessment. The Nokia Care Point will assess if a repair is required and advise if this may be covered under warranty."
So it looks as if I'm going to have to take it in for repair...

  • Satellite A105-S2001 wont boot after memory upgrade

I just tried to upgrade my memory from 512mb to 2 gb using 2 1gb memory chips from crucial. When i insert both memory chips at the same time my laptop wont boot, it'll attempt to but stop in the middle of the process and try again 5 or 6 times. Nothin shows up on the screen. The same thing happens when i put only one 1gb chip in. When i put my old 512mb chip in and one 1gb chip the computer boots but only recognizes 960mb or ram. i also updated my bios.
    thanks

Sounds like incompatible memory.  Fortunately, Crucial is very good about honoring their compatibility guarantee so you should be able to get them exchanged.  You can get very strange results with incompatible chips due to the differences in timing specs.  That would account for what you're seeing.  I assume it works normally if you have just the original 512MB chip in place.

  • K7n2-L wont boot after bios upgrade

I have been very happy with the motherboard since i bought it in april 2003, been very stable and only had minor usb problems.  And i finally decided to upgrade the bios from v. 3.7 to v. 4.1.
After the upgrade the machine boots up to the first windows that shows me the memory and the hard disk i have installed.  I can also go into BIOS.
But the PC stops when its about to start booting up the HD or CDrom. According to the lights on the D-Bracket its trying to initializing the floppy controller.
There has never been a floppy drive in this PC before(i booted the PC on CDROM when i upgraded the BIOS).
    I have tried  the following things without success;
    installed a floppy drive.
    Cleared the CMOS(with the jumper)
Unplugged the cdrom and the hard disk.
    Tried every memory configuration.
    jumped the safe mode jumper.
It seems to me that i can only fix this by changing the BIOS chip....or the mainboard.
    Anyone had this problem?

    Azraeliz,
Sounds to me like perhaps you've overlooked a setting in the BIOS
Did you take note of the BIOS settings prior to flashing so you could put the settings back the way they were?
    nuckelavee,
I suggest you start your own thread. I have a hard time believing there is no CMOS jumper.
Tried this? ***Starting your K7N2 Delta2 at default settings***

  • New Mac Mini wont boot after OS upgrade

    I bought a Mac Mini Yesterday i7 1tb disk
    Wire keyboard and track thingie
    my first mac
First decided to upgrade OS to latest version
Its been 24 hours and I have not gotten past the grey screen with these 2 spinnung wheels
    Dave

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
        a. Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode.* The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Post for further instructions.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is damaged and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Boot into Recovery again. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
    Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a backup.
    Step 8
A dead logic-board battery in a Mac Pro can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
    Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

  • Server 2k8 Foundation wont boot after RAM upgrade

    Specs:
    Intel Core i3-550 3.2GHz 4M LGA1156 Processor
    Crucial 2GBx2 DDR3 1333MHz Memory
    Intel DQ57TM Motherboard
    500GB (2X500GB) 7.2 RAID 1 Mirror
Running Server S2k8 R2 Foundation.  I attempted to upgrade the ran to 8GB (from 4GB).  I matched the Ram down to the latency but when i boot with new ram the BIOS recognizes it but when it attempts to load Windows Server it shuts down and starts
    an boot cycle loop.
I have checked the BIOS and there are no options for settings on the ram without overclocking.  OC just puts the ram voltage out of spec for the DIMMS.  I have updated the BIOS firmware but was unable to find ANY drivers for the MOBO and chipset
    from Intel.
Any ideas?? This is super frustrating

    Hi Admicoker1,
If your computer not complete the POST check there must the hardware issue, ask your hardware vendor for the further help first is the best method, from you description and
base on my experience you can first try to reset your BIOS to Factory& Safe mode then try to boot your computer or confirm with your mainboard manual you have plug in the RAM to correct slot.
    Best Regards.

  • Aspire AOD-260 Wont boot after RAM upgrade

Hi all, I have a Acer Aspire AOD-260, which comes with 1GB of RAM.I purchased a 2GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10600 (which from what I can tell is the same spec as the 1GB currently in the netbook) When I put the 2GB in - the PC won't boot, I can't even get into the BIOS. (2 of the LED's Remain on - The far left one (with a lightbulb) and the far right (with the signal image)I put the 1GB back in after and it booted fine. This is the RAM I purchased - http://www.kingston.com/en/memory/search/?partid=kvr13s9s6/2 Can anyone shed some light as to why this is happening? Regards,Warrick

Hello, The Aspire One D260 works with DDR2 or DDR3 according the models (3 motherboards). In your case, you need DDR3 memory stick. The original memory stick for your netbook is:KN.2GB0B.026SODIMM.2GB.DDR3-1333.SAMSUNG.LFYou'll see the Samsung part number on the webpage.

    Thanks in advance...

    You can't do anything.
The new firmware stops these sorts of programs working.
Mainly because they can be used to install illegal applications etc.
There is no way of downgrading your firmware either before you ask.

  • MacBook not booting after RAM upgrade

I'm sorry if the case has been already posted.
Yesterday I took my MacBook Alu unibody late 2008 to a RAM upgrade (from 2 to 4gigs) to an offical Mac Reseller. They installed it and showed me that the system loads properly and recognized the new RAM.
I took it home, started working on After Effects and Photoshop and when i wanted to check a video on Quicktime, this program refused to boot.
Then photoshop freeze and after effects did so. I quited all aplications and restarted. On restart after the 'bong' i've got the grey screen white an apple logo and a loading bar underneath, that was it, it never finished loading but shutting down.
After the 2nd try the computer gave me the BAD RAM alarm signal right before the start button was pressed and nothing more. I just managed to start it ONCE on safe mode, but this one also freezed and colapsed.
Today i didn't get the BAD ram alarm but the grey screen and loading bar after shutting down.
I took it back to the reseler, the shop boss who did the upgrade wasn't there , the guys on the morning shift placed the old RAM back resulting the same. So they told me it's a software problem, not hardware and might be caused by a failed firmware update or something i did wrong and since i was showed that the system booted after the upgrade i can't complain or argue that they did somethiing wrong.
So basically the want 80euros to check what's wrong with my computer plus the 120 i already payed them for a RAM that doesn't work and of course the repair cost of the computer.
On monday i'll go to talk to the boss, what do you guys recomend me to tell him? i'm frustrated that the guys there treat me like if i broke my computer for beeing stupid and wanted to get it fixed for free, when it clearly broke after they did something wrong on it!
    please advice me!
    thanks!

What brand is the RAM? From what you said, it is obvious that the RAM is at fault. I would simply tell them that it is not compatible and return the RAM.
Check the System Profiler to see what it says about the RAM (Apple Logo - About this Mac - More Info) and run this application to test the RAM:
    http://www.memtestosx.org/joomla/index.php
If either shows any errors, print out the results and take them with you to the store.

  • PC-Suite sync fails after Firmware upgrade of E65

After firmware upgrade of E65 PC-Suite stops syncing Calendar & Contacts from outlook. No error messages, just "0 entries has been updated".

    - Outlook 2003

    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The funny thing is - the notes are synced???? If I restore some old contacts they'll double up in outlook, so I think the problem is, that the sync app doesn't see the outlook contact & calendar folder.
    Does somebody has an idea?

  • Mac mini won't boot after RAM upgrade.

Tried installing new RAM in my Mac Mini, 512MB stock to 2GB of Crucial. Followed the directions to a T, grounded myself the whole time.
    Things I've tried so far:
    1. Resetting the PRAM, no luck.
    2. Holding option at start-up, shows no icon.
    3. Holding shift, no luck.
    4. Holding X, nothing.
How do I get it to accept a CD if it won't boot?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You clearly have a problem, but you don't describe exactly what that is other than that your mini won't boot after the upgrade. What happens when it starts up? Does it attempt to start and hang up on the grey or blue screens, or does it start beeping at you almost immediately after you try and start it up, and also flash the power light?
If the former, then you may have dislodged a connector while working inside the system, in which case opening it up and checking that everything is firmly connected would be the first thing to do. If the latter, then the beeping/light flashing is the system telling you it has failed the power-on self test and the pattern of beeps/lights indicates why. In your case likely the system can't find workable memory. In that instance, opening the system and ensuring that the RAM is firmly and fully seated would be a good step, and if the mini continues to fail, then replacing the new RAM with the original to test that the system will then start.
It is not likely that anything had damaged your MacOS install in the process of upgrading, thus normally no reason to need to boot to CD as a result of a RAM issue.

    hi,
i recently upgraded the firmware of my WRT160N V2 to 2.0.03.
but since then when i login i get a crippled page on 192.168.1.1 with not even a menu. so i cant even downgrade. is there something i can do?

It is good to know that the issue is resolved
After firmware upgrade it is always recommended to reset and reconfigure the router and I think that is why you were unable to see the menu on the setup page of your router.
