T128 FX5200 graphics card gives poor quality TV display

I recently bought an MSI T128 FX5200 card and a Mega Sky USB TV receiver. I initially installed the TV USB card and this worked fine. However, as soon as I installed the graphics card the display was degraded. There is a poor picture, but it is washed out, garish, pixellated and indistinct (as if the display settings were very basic). I get the same problem with mpeg video on Windows Media Player. Having tested the graphics card using 3DMark 2001 it gives a perfectly respectable score of over 4662 - which suggests the hardware is working fine.
My set-up is:
Sempron 2200+ processor
Socket A MSI Motherboard MS-7061
512 Mb PC2700 Crucial memory
T128 FX5200 graphics card (passive cooling)
Monitor - Hansol 710P - 17" CRT
Current Display mode 1024 x 768 (32 bit)
Direct X version: 9.0c
Windows XP (sp2)
I have tried fiddling around with BIOS settings (e.g. turning off shared graphics and changing to 4X AGP instead of 8X) and display settings but to no avail. I don't want to remove my graphics card to be able to watch TV - rather defeats the objective of getting a graphics card. Any suggestions?

SORTED!
Thanks a lot for the advice Dr Stu - although I'm not clear whether it was your advice specifically that sorted the problem. Here's what I did:
I removed all Via Uichrome IGP drivers and utilities via Add/Remove Programs off the Control Panel.
I closed Windows XP down and went in to BIOS. Changed to AGP 4X and turned off FastWrites and disabled shared VGA memory.
Installed FX5200 T128.
On entering Windows loaded drivers for FX5200 from CD-ROM that came with T128. Everything worked fine. I've since reverted to AGP 8X and enabled Fastwrites - with no adverse effects. So, it's unlikely that this was the source of the problem (I had tried turning them off before receiving your advice).
The strange thing is, I'm pretty convinced I did all of the above previously. So the chances are that I'd failed to delete some of the VIA drivers properly even though I thought I'd done so. I turned off my internet connection, to make sure that the drivers weren't updated on the sly. I thought I'd done this before as well - but who knows.
I suppose the moral for me is to be meticulous - and not to asssume I've done things properly first time!
Thanks again for the help, if nothing else you inspired me to have another bash at sorting things when I'd given up.
Now I will be looking for advice to sort out my MSI Mega Sky Usb Digital TV drive....

  • Graphics Cards compatible with 30" Cinema Display

I need to replace my graphics card in my MacPro. Display still works from other computers but it won't work from the MacPro any more.
There seem to be so many graphics cards around yet I am struggling to find a list of cards that ARE compatible with a MacPro/Cinema set up. Does anyone knoe where I can find this information?
    Thanks
    Alan

If you want it to work with OSX, it has to be a card make for the Mac Pro. PC graphics cards won't work with OSX.
    <http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shopmac/macaccessories/displays?mco=MTM3NTA0ODQ>
Despite what Apple says, the ATI Radeon HD 4870 will work with any Mac Pro, the other cards only with the 2008 or 2009 Mac Pro.

  • Safari graphical user interface poor quality on Macbook Pro Retina

I’ve noticed that the Safari graphical user interface quality is not good on my Macbook Pro Retina display. Although it has been optimized for Retina displays I keep seeing strange artifacts or glitches from time to time, while this one is persistent, check out the dark stripe behind the bookmarks toolbar : https://www.dropbox.com/s/pa7zizpbi7vdx41/Screen%20Shot%202013-04-21%20at%2012.5 6.11%20PM.png (if the link doesn’t open on click just do the right click - open in new tab) There are also same “spots” on toolbar buttons (bookmark folders) as well, but they are a bit harder to discern.
I don’t think it is a graphic card or display issue since almost all of retina-ready apps work just fine (I have replaced my LG with a Samsung screen, btw).
I wonder does anybody have the same experience with Safari? And if so, has anyone managed to solve the issue?

Try creating a brand new account (in System Preferences -> Users & Groups) and test there.
    Tried. The same.
I don't actually have a retina machine, but I see no reason for this to be related to the fact that you have a retina MBP. Unless you have information that suggests it is present on other similar machines...?
At first I thought that it was just on the Retina, but then I really looked into my external monitor and saw it — looking at it right now. It seems to me that when Always show tab bar is ON the space between Bookmarks bar and the tab is sloppy sliced.
The hDPI screen reveals the graphic irregularities from regular DPI screens without a problem.
The reason I posted this here is because I saw many people are having glitches, artifacts and flickers with Safari (on Retina).

  • Headset as headset gives poor quality, as headphones good, who to blame?

I bought a very cheap Bluetooth headset for my MacBook Pro Retina, that got recommended by other buyers, just to find that when using Skype the audio guality is just too bad to be usable. I then decided not to be cheap and bought a Logitech H800 and a Philips SHB7000. The Logitech sounds "ok" but not really acceptable and the Philips almost as bad as the noname.
Now, if I start VLC and watch a movie I found that they sound very good if I pick the "stereo" variants in the device list. Not sure it is OS X 10.8.3 fault, but I had to select, deselect, reselt a couple of times before I could hear anything when switching headset during my test.
So I now have three headsets that all somehow dropped down to bad audio making them useless for me to talk in Skype. To me the audio quality matters a lot when talking to someone over Skype. Partly a bit spoiled by my Sennheiser PC-36 USB headset that sounds excellent.
    Wikipedia writes
There are two types of Bluetooth headset. Headsets using Bluetooth 1.0 or 1.1 often have a single monaural earpiece, which can only access Bluetooth's headset/handsfree profile. Depending on the phone's operating system, this type of headset will either play music at a very low quality (suitable for voice), or will be unable to play music at all. Headsets with the A2DP profile can play stereo music with acceptable quality. Some A2DP-equipped headsets automatically de-activate the microphone function while playing music; if these headsets are paired to a computer via Bluetooth connection, the headset may disable either the stereo or the microphone function.
This is not very comforting, that when using as a headset "some" A2DP headsets might de-activet the microphone and some might drop down to the low quality.
So the bad audio is likely from the poor quality Bluetooth standard is picked, question is who picks it? And does it have to be at the poor quality setting?
Is it the headsets I bought that has this limitation? If so, is there some way to see in the specification before buying that it will drop to low quality if used as a headset?
Or is it my MacBook Pro Retina hardware that is limited so it has to pick the low quality setting? Or is it OS X that does this and an OS update might fix this problem? Or is it Skype that does this, i.e. an application bug?
I would appreciate if someone could clarify where this limitation really is located and possible work-arounds, preferably without buying yet another pair of headsets....

Skype is the problem, nothing you can do.
i posted about it in 2010 and they dont seem in any rush to fix it.
I still use it even with the crappy audio, simply for the convenience. What is really frustrating is randomly i will get a skype call that STAYS in pefect audio quality. It doesnt switch.
So its obviously possible to fix, i just don't thing they have it on their 'to do' list

  • ICA Scanner Driver gives poor quality scans Epson Perfection 1660 Photo

The controls on the ICA Scanner Driver for the Epson Perfection 1660 Photo scanner are very crude, and it's difficult if not impossible to get the quality I used to get with the previous Epson Scan driver.  Where there used to be Levels, Curves, and Zoom controls, now there are only crude Brightness and Contrast sliders.  Is there any way I can get more control over levels and curves, and zoom in on an image to fine tune the cropping, like I used to do with Epson Scan?  Or will I have to  buy a current model scanner?  The Epson Scan program for the Perfection 1660 scanner is no longer compatible with Mac OS X 10.7.

I bought Vuescan 12 years ago, got the professional version. I have used it on Mac's and a PC or two. I have been through a dozen or more scanners over the years, upgraded OS's a hefty number of times as well.  And it still works like a champ.
Best $40 I ever spent.  (what it cost back then for Pro...)
You can go to his site, and try Vuescan for free before you buy.  Not a big software company, just a guy who loves scanners, and his son.  And he's been offering the software a long, long time, and updates the product constantly.

  • Poor quality images displaying in Screensaver after iLife 08 - suggestions?

After installing iLife 08 on my iBook and iMac, I have noticed that the quality of the images displayed on the screensaver from My Pictures folder is very poor. It looks as if it is using an upscaled thumbnail and not the full image. You can no longer select the iPhoto library as the folder to use as it now seems to be a single file rather than a folder. You cannot peek inside this file using finder. Is this an insoluble problem? I liked being able to use finder within the iPhoto library. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
    Wilson

Problem is now solved. I cleared the application, system and kernel caches with OnyX, which I have on all 4 of our Macs. That was about the only bit of maintenance I had not done - typical and it was the one that worked. ScreenSaver now displays the Pictures images at the correct resolution.

  • Graphics card options for 3x 2560x1440 displays

    Point of cosideration:
    Currenty have a 5770
Currenty have 3x 27" displays (WQHD). They have DP and DL/DVI so no adapters are needed even on a single card array
Display seems slightly laggy under certain conditions since upgrading my monitors
Would like to improve gaming performance in mac and bootcamp
    Considering 5870, 2nd 5770, or 6870 (open to suggestions)
I don't want to run custom drivers or flash a card. My system is used primarily for development so as close to Apple approved spec is best for debugging. However since I hear Lion/ML added support for certain PC cards (6870 specifically) I'm considering that for the cost/performance gains since it shouldn't break with OS updates, etc.
Not interested in discontinued models, used, ebay, etc. as a means for a secondary display card.
Cost is a factor but not the only one. If the 5870 is a better peformance option all around than a 2gb 6870 then it's price is justified since it's also a standard Apple config.
Would 2x5770 be better for day to day work (photoshop, etc.) than a 5870 due to the extra VRAM? How would this compare to a 6870 2gb? Or is the desktop environment going to see a better performance gain from the 5870 since it's the most powerful GPU (though only 1gb of ram). Are there Nvidia options I'm overlooking (again, no flashing, compatible with standard OS install, no custom drivers required, CUDA driver addon acceptable since it's not required for the base system config).

Focusing just on the stock options of dual 5770 or single 5870:
5870 is obviously higher performance for a single screen, and works fine in OS X and Bootcamp, however with 3 screens would I be overall better off with dual 5770's? run the 2 side screens on one card, and the main screen on another providing more vram for each screen. In theory I could crossfire the 5770's for bootcamp (os x doesn't use crossfire, but my understanding is it just ignores it if you install a bridge...) which is similar (a little lower) than a 5870 in performance... if I'm right in these assumptions then dual 5770 seems to give the following advantages
Improved OS X system performance since each screen has more vram to work with
Improved OS X gaming again because the main screen has it's own vram
Improved Bootcamp gaming due to crossfire (single screen in windows)
    Cheaper
    Still standard apple config
    Disadvantages
Much lower single screen performance vs 5870 in mac OS
Lower single screen performance vs 5870 in bootcamp (not as much lower due to crossfire though)
Still not as good a price/performance ratio vs. breaking from a stock config
What about newer ATI cards? Can't find anything confirming or denying that the 7xxx series is supported in Mountain Lion... if it is supported presumably it would be more stable than Nvidia since it would be using the same base drivers as the standard ATI cards which apple supports...

  • QuickSilver Graphics Card For 23" Apple Aluminum Display

    Hello
I need to run an Apple Aluminum 23"Display on a Power Macintosh G4 (Quicksilver 2002)
    Model: Mxxxx PowerMac G4 733MHz/800MHz/933MHz/1.0GHz-DP
    Bus speed: 133MHz
Would this card be the ticket? ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (AGP) Mac Edition
    or would this not work?
I just purchased an ATI RAge 128 and that does not light the display.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi-
The Radeon 900 Pro will run the 23" ACD just fine.

  • GMA X3100 graphics card.

    I was just wondering,
I want to buy the Sims 2 game for Mac, but it says i require a Radeon 9000 graphics card or better or a GeForce FX5200 graphics card or better. I currently own a MacBook with a GMA X3100 graphics card. I want to know if the Sims game will work with my current graphics card, as I already found out that Need For Speed Carbon wont work with it. I would also like to know if it will work with Leopard, as I recently upgraded.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi MacDeejay!
I was able to get Sims 2 running on my MacBook with the X3100 card without any major issues. I found that I needed to turn my graphics settings to low or else the more that began to appear on the screen things would slow down dramatically. Occasionally I'd get some odd rendering as some shaders and color combinations would take longer to load than others. I'd imagine the game to run extremely well on the MacBook Pro but it certainly runs on the MacBook.
It is listed on Intel's site for compatible games for the X3100 as well...

  • Poor quality image with doing videos with photos/images HELP!

    Hello,
I bought Adobe Premiere Element to make videos with pictures. When I do the video, the quality of my photos is good. When I save the video on my computer or I download it on youtube (example) the quality of my photos is extremely poor. Why? Does anyone can help me? Thank you!

What Project Preset did you choose at New Project? In the case of Video, composed of Still Images ONLY, you would set that to your desired delivery specs. Not so, if you are also using Video.  I tried several types of parameters. Some parameters give poor quality when I upload it to Youtube (for example) and others in the design of video and upload to YouTube. So which settings should I use for photos only ?
This sounds like you are talking about the Export/Share settings for output to YouTube.
What I was asking is what did you start off with, when you were at New Project?
If you are doing an SD Project, you will have either 720 x 480 (NTSC), or 720 x 576 (PAL) pixels in the Project's Frame Size. If that is what you want, then I would Scale your camera original Stills to 640 x 480 (for NTSC), as you have Square Pixels, and the Project will have either 0.9 for NTSC Standard, or 1.21 for NTSC Widescreen).
PrE can Scale the Still Images, but the Scaling algorithms in Photoshop are much better, and offer more control.
Now, if you wish to do an HD Project, just choose that as your Preset, and then use the Images in about their original size. Note, there will be some black borders, as the screen-caps most likely have a different Aspect Ratio, than a Video Project, which for HD will be 16:9. Especially with screen-caps, that are pretty low resolution to begin with, I would NOT do any Scaling, and would live with the letterboxing, or pillar boxing, rather than Scale and effectively Crop.
Also, when Scaling in Photoshop, I do not Save_As JPEG, as it introduces compression, but only as either PSD (Photoshop's native format), or PNG.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Poor quality dv video

I have read enough to know that importing dv into imovie 09 and exporting to iDVD gives poor quality when making a DVD. I have quite a few old VHS tapes to change to DVD's. What I would like to know is if there is a way to process the movie so you don't have the "single field processing"? What is the procedure for getting around iMovie 09?

I have read enough to know that importing dv into imovie 09 and exporting to iDVD gives poor quality
    Easy to 'fix'.
Use iMovie 06 with iDVD 08/09
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08/09 is "The Best" combination for quality.
    From PC World review:
"The way iMovie '09 handles video internally is mostly unchanged from the previous version (iMovie 08): interlaced DV and HDV footage use single-field processing to improve performance, which means iMovie (09) is throwing out every other horizontal line of information."
"Apple has deliberately made a tradeoff between performance and image quality for some footage."
iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.

  • Graphics card not up to spec

I installed Aperture on an iMac G5 1.8GHz with 10.4.4 and 2GB RAM. Initially it ran fine. Then I ran the update to 1.0.1 and now I get a message that my "graphics card" is insufficient. However, when I look at the specs for the update to 1.0.1 it seems like my iMac is good enough. What's wrong?

I looked at the specs through "about this mac" and it shows a Geforce FX5200 graphics card. I know this is not in the list of compatible cards, however, the iMac G5 does not have a replacable graphics card, and yet the iMac G5 1.8 GHz IS listed as one of the computers that can be used for Aperture.
If Apple tells me now that this is actually not true, then their minimum specs are misleading.

  • Computer freezes when switching to discrete Graphics Card.

Hi! I have a W530 with the K1000M graphics card, along with the Nvidea Optimus program. Whenever I run a program that uses my discrete graphics card, I get the error "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered." I've used my discrete graphics card before with no problems, although my computer has had two major changes since the last time I've used it (see notes below).
Solutions I've tried: Updating with the correct drivers through Windows Update (update failed), updating driver through Lenovo website (broke display), updating drivers through Nvidea website (driver installed, didn't fix problem). Nothing works, and the Lenovo driver basically disabled my display. It took me hours to fix just that-- for some reason, whenever I crash, my computer looks at drive X instead of C. Had to screw around for a while just to let me do a system restore.
I'm rather upset about the whole thing because I really like my laptop. Right now, I've just set Optimus to never use the discrete graphics card...
    Thanks for reading!
*Note 1: I have some aftermarket parts: Crucial RAM and a mSATA SSD. I've had these parts in for over a year with no problems.
*Note 2: The motherboard in my laptop blew a transistor or something a few weeks ago. My university's computer shop replaced it under warranty.
*Note 2.1: I'm not sure if the new motherboard is causing the problems or Windows 8.1, or something else entirely. I haven't used my discrete graphics card since before both the 8.1 update and my motherboard being fixed.

This happened to me whenever I was trying to run 3dsMax Design 2013 in Optimus mode, everytime I attempted to open that program it would simply refuse and say the nvidia driver had just crashed.
It was solved with nvidia 305.93 I think (I currently run 331.82 which is the latest) look for the most up to date driver at the nvidia drivers download page.
That is really an nvidia driver related problem but you should also update your Intel video card driver too as previously suggested. (and if the program that is crashing is an Autodesk product be sure to be up to date too (with all the nuances that it implies), I'm currently running 3dsmax 13 PU6 and it works)
So what you need to do is to uninstall your nvidia driver completely, reboot, install the most up to date from nvidia. reboot, via windows update install the lates Intel video driver (if something appears) (don't install it from the intel web site). In device manager my intel driver appears to be 9.17.10.2843
(Maybe it didn't work the last time for you because maybe you didn't perform a clean installation)
