T2 find facility

This has to be a common request. the "find" facility on my T2 will only display the first 8 entries for contacts and does not display a date or time for diary entries. Any downloads/upgrades available?

What was the answer to fix it then please. My version is 4.1.4, but the find facility only comes up with the first 8 then no more.

Safari's 'Find' facility

Apologies in advance if this is considered too off-topic, but....
When I use Safari's 'Find' facility to locate text on a webpage I find it difficult to actually locate the result's of the search on the page. This is due to Safari 'highlighting' the text in grey (!!), is there any way to change the colour of the highlight to make it more distinctive?

Thanks for that guys, I did as you both suggested and changed the option in preferences.
Here is the weird bit, I can see what difference the change has made (highlighting text to copy & paste for example), but when I used Safari's 'Find' option the very first word found appeared in the chosen colour. Then I clicked find again and it immediatly reverted back to grey (not the default Blue in highlighter preferences), and remains grey all the time, no matter how many times I use it! :-s
Any ideas?

Find facility not working

when I use the find facility on a pdf it only finds the word in the illustartions and not in the main body of the text please help

Activate "Find" button in PO13

After upgrade to 4.7 from 4.5, the "Find" button (below the menu bar, next to the Print button) in Transaction Code PO13 Maintain Position is greyed-out (deactivated).
How can I activate the "Find" button ? Thanks.

Within a Position, a number of Activity Groups have been assigned. Have to page up and down to locate the required Activity Group.

File icon invisible. How can I find it?

I have two files on my Intel iMac. I know they are there but the icons do not appear for some reason. How can I fix this? Thanks.

If you know their names use Spotlight or any other search utility (e.g., Find any File) to find them. If you know the files on some other basis, e.g., mod date, you could try using spotlight (or FAF) to search on that basis. Type command+f in finder to bring up that sportlight find facility. This will also allow searching for invisible files.

Hard Drive nearly full, but can't see why.

I've got a 2009 iMac (4Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD) running 10.8.5. I got a Finder warning about the Hard drive space this morning saying I only had 400Mb left. Which is very strange, because most working files are kept on my machine, but copied back to a file server, and trashed from my mac.
After some trashing of bits and bobs, I managed to get to about 60Gb free (so at least the mac could function properly whilst i was doing some investigative work.
I did a "get info" on each of the folders in my user account (including the hidden 'Library' folder). Counted up to about 85Gb. I then did the same for the system folder - Apps, System, and Library - which came to 34Gb. That's a total of 119Gb (which is about what I would have guessed).
So there's about 320Gb of hard drive space that's being eaten up, but I can't see where. I have been doing some heavy work in iBooks Author, so I opened up the iBA files and deleted the previous versions. Won back a bit of space, but not a dent really. I think the local snapshot versions are actually pretty small.
Thinking that it had to be an issue with some bloated hidden file, I used Terminal to show hidden files, and tried to use the 'Find' facility to search for files over 1Gb; there were a few, but none hidden, and none i didn't already know about.
I don have TIme Machine, but that's set up for an external HDD, so that's not the issue.
Any ideas what I can try next?

Hi Eric – Thanks for the reply. Forgot to mention that I checked out the storage in 'About this mac'. Here's the shot.
As you can see, backups are pretty much at zero, so assuming that the 'backups' section comprises previous 'versions' of files, (local snapshots), then theoretically these are ruled out too.
I've downloaded OmniDiskSweeper (thanks for the link), and ran it, which is where things get really wonky. I left it for ages. I presume it had finished scanning, as it gives no progression bar or 'finished' dialogue box. Check out the screenshot.
Check out OmniDiskSweeper's data. The 'User' folder is the largest (unsurprisingly) at 75Gb, but that is only what I thought it would be. Check out the total amount scanned (at the top of the window). 102Gb. 102. Yet, there's there 'Get info' box on the left, saying I've got 418 Gb used on the hard drive.
The system thinks that there's more data on the HDD than OmniDiskSweeper. I'm suspecting that there's a corruption somewhere. I tried a 'light' clean of my system cache (using MountainLionCacheCleaner), and did a safe boot to clear some caches, but no result.
Next, I'm going to create a new User to see if the issue is within the User account or system-specific. Then I'm going to start up CarbonCopyCloner to see what that reports. Back in touch soon.

How far can we rely on Adobe Acrobat Reader?

We are contemplating to move to the Paperless Office solution with Adobe Acrobat as the backbone.
Only 2-3 people in the office will be responbible for scanning documents (using the scanning facility provided by Adobe Acrobat) and merging them with existing PDF files by inserting pages etc.
We were wondering if it would be advisable to get 2-3 licenses of Adobe Acrobat full version for these people while the rest of the users could probably do with Adobe Acrobat Reader as they would only read the PDF files containing the scanned documents and search for information inside.
(1) Kindly advise me if deployment of 2-3 licenses of Adobe Acrobat full-version for the concerned users and Adobe Acrobat Reader for the rest is a good solution.
(2) Also, I would like to know if Adobe Acrobat Reader offers the same extent of search facilities as the full version (for instance search through index).

Acrobat and Reader have a search and a find facility. The find facility is the same. Once the pdf file or files have been cataloged/indexed then the search facility is the same, but Reader cannot create the catalogue and/or index. I find the facility to catalog and search through a group of documents to be invaluable. The set of documents that need to be indexed may vary by user. If your two or three Acrobat powered users are willing to catalog many of the files for your users, then it is workable. If your users really use large documents the search facility is crucial. I regularly need to search for things in a document that is over 500 pages long, find just takes too long. Seach is really crucial and saves time.

Need itunes to search for music!!

I can't figure out how to get itunes to search my hard drive for music. Since all kinds of problems with installing new version (old one wiped out entirely) finally got it to open, (two months later) now there's almost no music. Two 50 cent albums, nothing else. None of the good stuff.
My stuff is still on windows media player (thank god for Microsoft). How do I get itunes to look for it and copy it to itunes? (Like the old version did!!!)

In the Help for iTunes for Mac, the following answer comes up to the query “Search for files”. I suspect that the second one will be the most relevant for you. I presume you can do that via the “Find” facility from the Start menu.
I agree that it would be good to be able to search in the way that the older versions did.

Issue with belle fp2

i upgraded my 701 to symbian belle fp2. now i can't find facility to send multiple pics from gallery. moreover the videoediting is bad. i can only trim it. so as photo editing. in the former version i can use many options in video editing. now i can't. so, is there any possibility of another upgrade to fp2?

Whilst it may be technically feasible to recover these applications it is beyond remit of this forum to advise upon how to implement this procedure, but can co-exist with latest version upon Belle FP2:

Highlighted search terms in links...

If I search the forums, then the search terms are highlighted (yellow/bold) in the resulting messages. This is nice except when the search terms appear in a URL. The URL then does not function as a link anymore like it normally does in messages here.
For example:

because of the highlighting becomes:
http://otn.<font%20style='background-color:/#ffff00'>oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/content.html)manual

What you seem to require is the search to return a list of results and to know which topic the user requires to see. No search output works like that. It is possible to highligh the searched keyword once you have displayed the topic (even with CHM files) but as Rick says it will not take users directly to it. That is true of all output types. Most output types have a find facility (CTRL + F) that can be used to find a keyword it requires the user to manually enter a keyword.

Downloading Firefox

I have been using Firefox for a few years now and love it. Before Christmas, I bought a new computer (Apple Mac) and my old Mac, with Firefox operational, was passed to my husband. The new Mac had Safari installed as the browser but I didn't like it and downloaded Firefox to use instead. It downloads fine but when I try to open it, I get a message stating "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time". There is no other Firefox open. I've done a search on the computer for any files with Firefox of Mozilla in their name and deleted them (including emptying the waste basket), then downloaded again but still get the same error message. I've tried this several times, both with the old computer connected via network and with it disconnected but always the same message.
I've tried to persevere with Safari in the hope it will grow on me but it hasn't and now I'm desperate to re-install Firefox. Today, my husband's Mac crashed completely and I've had to erase it and re-install the software so he no longer has Firefox on his computer either and I thought that would be an opportunity for me to re-load it on my computer but I'm still getting the message that Firefox is already open.

Each time I've tried to solve the problem, I've got the computer to search for anything containing firefox or mozilla (both in the name and the contents), then I've trashed everything it's found and emptied the trash. After I received your post, I tried again but the same thing still happens. I've looked in the library and there's no folder there with either Firefox or Mozilla in the name. Surely the computer 'find' facility would come up with the rogue file/folder if it had either Firefox or Mozilla in its name? Could it be inside one of the library folders?
Incidentally, sorry for the delay in reviewing your message - got a sudden urgent job to do for a client.

Connection lost alwayd on a particular website

Frequently on using the "find" option on this webaite, my connection drops and takes about a minute to recover.
What's going on? How can one particular website do this?
It doesn't seem to happen with others, and it doesn't happen each time I use the find facility.
Does the hub get shoucked by the price of turkey or something?

Is it every single time you use this function, I have tested this myself using Win7 and Firefox 4.0; and have haven't replicated the issue you describe. Do you have a Malware scan program on your PC? could be a script based issue.
When you say the connection drops, does the router actually lose its internet connection or does the system (o/s) mearly not respond to internet requests?

Photo albums are not searched by Spotlight Search. Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search to see and reorder the available search items.

If you made backups of all of your photos and your catalog file using some third-party method (i.e. not using the PSE catalog backup command), then you should be able to restore everything.
Step 1. Put the photos in the EXACT SAME LOCATION as before. For example, if they were in subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents, then they must go into the exact same subfolders of C:\Users\<username>\Documents.
Step 2. Move the catalog file to wherever you want it to be, and then double-click on it.
