T2000 onboard RAID monitoring in Solaris 10

hey all,
i have a new T2000 with the system disks mirrored via the hardware LSI raid controller.
solaris 10 is installed.
how do i get alerted as to when one of the 2 drives in the mirror taps out?
i think ALOM will monitor the hard drives and generate alerts, but not sure if that will trigger if the mirror breaks or if there are problems on the raid controller itself?
just want to make sure this system is covered.

Ok, Two more drives in and the order seems a little strange. I suspect the tech who replace dthe MB flipped a pair of the SAS cables? Is this controller 2 channels?
The 2 - 73GB disks are in the bottom (drive slots 0 and 1)
The 2 - 146GB disks are in the top (drive slots 2 and 3)
Here is what I am seeing in OBP

  • Trying to configure onboard Raid

I am trying to configure the onboard Raid.  I have (2) 80GB serial ATA drives and a DVD drive set to master on IDE1.  Only (1) of the 80gb drives show up in the bios, and my DVD drive does not read.  I know that the DVD drive works because it shows up under different configurations in the Bios.  Can anyone help with the right configuration?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Improving hard drive performance with onboard RAID.

After completing a recent PPBM5 test and being disappointed I would like to improve the disc performance of my system and would appreciate the thoughts of the forum.
    System:

    CPU: Intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz
    RAM: 12GB (6 x 2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR

My motherboard has 6 x 3Gb/s and 2 x 6Gb/s SATA ports and has an onboard RAID, using an Intel ICH10R Southbridge controller.  The motherboard also has USB 3.0.  I have a DVD drive using one of the SATA ports.
Although I understand the principal of RAID I’ve never used it before.  So, what would be the best way of improving performance?
I presume that as all my drives currently have data on them I’ll have to copy this data to another drive before formatting them and then creating the RAID drive.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions.
    Many thanks.

Thanks Harm.  I've gone through your suggestions.
As my computer has to function for several other tasks in addition to video editing, I realise that I will have to compromise somewhat on the performance to make sure that it's still useable for other things.
Using Black Vipers tips I've reduced the processes running from 100+ to 89.
Indexing and compression turned off for all drives except Storage, which isn't used for video related tasks.  Although it wouldn't surprise me to learn that having any indexing turned on will have a degree of drain on resources.
    Discs all defragged.
    Media Cache cleared.
Any further advice on how to optimise the hard drives would be very much appreciated.

  • Cannot see new Seagate 1TB Hard Drive on SBS 2008 R2 (Onboard RAID)

This is probably an easy setup, but I just want to make sure that I am doing this correctly and not mess up the current Raid Array.
This is on a Intel S5000VSA server motherboard. It has an Onboard 6 port RAID card. Currently there are three SATA HDDs connected to the right of the Onboard RAID (if you are looking at the Motherboard directly). There is another connection that
least to an external SATA port that is connected to the left of the Onboard RAID.  My boss purchased a 1TB Seagate and want is connected onto the server as its own drive; not connected to the current RAID array 0.
I have installed the new 1TB Seagate to the next open port next to the eSATA connection. When I start up the server, during the boot up I see the 3 hard drives (the three original and the new 1TB). When the Windows SBS 2008 R2 finally boots up and I open
the Disk Management, I do not see the new Hard Drive that I installed; I only see the existing C: and external BackUp. I tried to rescan the drives but no go.
Do I need to set up a new Array for the new 1TB Drive?
Just to look, I did launch the RAID Bios and confirmed that the RAID does see the new Hard Drive and has a READY status. I know I do not want to do a New Configuration, because it will clear the current configuration. When I select the view/add configuration,
I can set the new Hard Drive status from READY to Onlin A01-00. When I save and exit, then look at the physical disk status again, it reads as ready.
I don't think I have to add the new Hard Drive as a new array, but I could be wrong. I wanted to get some input before I do anything else further.

After some looking around, I found a Document about the RAID Controller on the motherboard. Instead of adding the new Physical Drive as a Virtual Drive in the RAID Bios screen, I found that I was able to download an Intel Console version that was more user
    friendly.
I did add the new physical drive as a new Array and once that was done I was finally able to see the new 1TB in Disk Manager.
    Thanks for that Assistance Al.

  • How do you update the Bios safely when using onboard RAID mirror? Z87-G45

How do you update the Bios safely when using onboard RAID with Z87-G45?   I'm using a simple two drive, RAID 1 mirror setup.
I'm currently at bios 1.4, and want to move up.  However, last time I upgraded the BIOS, the machine rebooted with improper settings for the RAID (they get hosed during BIOS flash) and Windows decided to auto-repair the only boot drive it could see, one half of the mirror, because it couldn't see the RAID array correctly and *POOF*  bare-metal reinstall required.
My PC will not let me press the DEL key on bootup to access the bios, even with MSI Fast Boot not installed.  It just ignores the DEL key and tries to load windows which, if that happens, will flame-out my RAID array after a bios flash if I can't catch it to enable the RAID first before windows loads.
I do not want to rebuild my PC again simply because I do a BIOS update.

FYI: BIOS 1.4 & 1.8 are using the same RAID version: 12.7.0.1936
based on this RAID surprise should not hapends.
But as pandaz says if you have no issues, leave bios update alone.
there are still risks something to messed up,
best do a backup of your data just in case if you want to try latest version

  • How to quit using the onboard RAID Z87-G45

In hindsight, using the onboard RAID has a number of drawbacks, from making updating the BIOS risky, disabling AHCI for optimum SSD use, and the occasional degradation of performance while verify/repair operations run (about 6 hours per Terabyte).
If I were to buy a large enough SSD, would it be able to clone the RAID mirror?

Quote from: pandaz on 01-September-14, 15:52:13
SSD is already quite fast enough and buying large capacity of SSD would cost you $$$
I've only got about 300GB actual data on the RAID.   Once the RAID is freed-up, I gain the use of multiple 1TB SATA drives.
So, only need a 500GB SSD.

  • Alternative to using SUNMC for hardware monitoring on Solaris 8, 9, 10

My manager is asking me if there is an alternative product available to using SUN MANAGEMENT CENTER to monitor hardware on older servers running Solaris 8, 9 & 10. We have ASR in the environment for the new servers and that will stay for at least the short term.
We have some old hardware on the account that I support and there is little likelihood that we will be moving to Solaris 10 on these older servers to use the follow-on product (name escapes me).
What else is out there for this purpose?

    IBM Tivoli
    CA UniCenter
    HP OpenView
    Good 'ol SWatch
I believe the product which the name escapes you is Ops Center???

  • How to install a power monitor in Solaris 10

    Hello everyone,
I have installed Solaris 10 in my laptop Sony VGN-S350F. Now, I have realized that I can't check what my battery's status is. I am using java desktop System as my default graphic environment.
I have worked several times with linux and I know Gnome comes with an special applet to monitor the battery's level.
Could anybody tell me where I can find a similar function in Solaris 10?
    Thank You

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • Question about wide-screen monitor on Solaris x86

    I have Solaris x86, version 10/2009 installed.
It works fine with any wide-screen monitor I plug in.
But when I use this 3rd party CAD/CAM software, any round
circle is being displayed as an oval shape. I believe that's because
on the wide-screen monitor, the width of the monitor is longer than the height.
Does anyone know if there's a setting to change so that I can view circles as true round circles instead of an oval shape? Thanks.

OK, I know what the problem is now.
But I need to change the resolution settings. Does anyone know how to change it on x86, version 10/2009?
I recall it being something like "kdmconfig"

  • Is Raid Monitoring Possible? P67-GD65

I have a MSI P67-GD65 that has Server 2008 R2 installed on a solid state drive.  In addition I have 4 - 2TB Drives configured in Raid 5 for a total of 6TB of Storage, well 5.5TB really.  I purchased 5 - 2 TB drives to have a spare standing by in case there is a failure before I upgrade several years down the road.  Now my system building is underway I am wondering how I will be notified of a drive failure for the raid?  At work we have emails and pages sent out alerting to a drive failure.  Is their something I can do with the P67-GD65?
Thanks for the help and guidance!
    Ryan

The "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" driver & utility package includes a utility that allows to check the status of your hard drives and the array they function in on the Windows level.  The tool has a monitoring utility running in the background.  It will notify you as soon as any problem with the array or one of its drives is detected.  It will not send out emails, though.

  • 720IX Raid Monitor software when using Hyper-V

Rd650 Server 720iX raid, Running hyper V Server with 3 sets of raid,
Raid is created properly, installed my 1st Vm of Win2012 R2 Virtual but I also want to monitor the raid, but since it's virtual I'm not sure how to set this up.
I instaleld "Graphics-based Management Utility for LSI SWR / HWR for RHEL / SLES Linux & Windows OS - ThinkServer Systems "
which I'm not sure is the correct monitor to view the raid, but non the less it can't detect the raid card. or see the raid.
Does anyon have any tips on how to monitor my raid on a hyper V server 2012?

    Configure CSV backups
If you are running Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2 and you’re backing up multiple clusters with DPM, you need to ensure that only one backup uses the same CSV at any one time. To do this, follow the instructions in
    Serialize virtual machine backups.
If you’re using software VSS with Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2, do the following
Serialize virtual machine backups per node
Serialize virtual machine backups per CSV LUN
    Have a nice day !!!

can anyone help me to find the corret software to monitor Raid under Centos (Gui or text based..)

    Hi
I dont think that the RAID driver does not allow monitoring the HDD temperature.
It seems that all these 3rd party tools are not designed to monitor the HDD temp.
    Thats all!
    > Can the RAID drivers be uninstalled/installed/updated without destroying the operating system at all?
Usually the RAID driver must be installed at first before running the OS setup installation. Its needed to recognize the HDD!!!
I have had a Qosmio G20 and I changed the RAID configuration in the BIOS. After this procedure the new OS installation was needed!
