  • Shuts down as soon as unplugged but battery charged 100%... please help

My MacBook will now shut down as soon as the power cable is unplugged. I've done all of the Software Updates so should be right up to date.
Mystery is it did start to shut down when it was in sleep mode and running on battery but now won't work at all when it is unplugged.
Everytime I start up it comes up with a firmware update icon, screen but says it cannot find the firmware to update.
Please help. The whole point of a MacBook is that it is supposed to be portable and I'm frustrated.
    MacBook 13inch 2.0Ghz Intel 2GB Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Purchased March 2007

You might try to reset the SMC and/or PRAM.
You might also look here for help with MacBook battery problems.
If you have done this and it did not help contact Apple. Your battery is under warranty and they should be able to help you out.

  • When deleting find i phone app i erased my apple id and since then my phone shut down as soon as it is opened what can i do ?

when deleting find i phone app i erased my apple id and since then my phone shut down as soon as it is opened what can i do ?

    Do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • Runtime error R6025 Pure virtual function call....the program shuts down as soon as its opened

iTunes shuts down as soon as it is opened.  Message says Runtime error R6025.  pure virtual function call.  What is this and can it be fixed???

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turing off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • Imac keeps shutting down as soon as I start an application

Really need some help - I have an imac 27inch 2009 Intel - It keeps shutting down as soon as I start to use any application weather it be photoshop or itunes!
I have reset the PRAM, also reset the SMC. Also managed to do a software update which worked fine, although I'm fairly sure software isnt the issue.
I have plugged directly into the wall too.  It seems to stay on if i dont use it, but as soon as I start to do anything - boom, it goes off.  Its driving me crazy.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

Just backing up a few files first.
    Should I re-install OS?
Yup told you it was a lengthy test. Yes I think you should re-install OS X, before you do what verison of OS X is installed?
BTW please update your profile, you will find it under My Stuff in the upper right of this page. You should at least list what computers you have and what version(s) of OS X is installed on each otherwise we can't get an accurate picture of what is going on.

  • My mac shuts down as soon as it fires up. Any help?

My mac shuts down as soon as it fires up. Any help?

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • HT1349 ITunes shuts down as soon as I play a song in my library.  I downloaded version 11.0.4

I downloaded the latest version of ITunes on my Windows PC and it shuts down as soon as I click on a song?

    Hi,
It might be that you are running Vista, or that you just need to resart the computer.
    I hope this helps.

  • IPhone 5 shuts down as soon as battery goes below 20%

I have had my iPhone 5 for about a year, still have until Jan 2015 on Verizon contract. I am running iOS 7.0.4. My battery drains relatively quickly, but usually lasts about 8-9 hours for me on a full charge. However, the phone just shuts down and shows the battery being dead as soon as I go below 20% on my battery level. When this happens varies a little bit, it has been as high as 25% and as low as 14%, but it usually right around 19 or 20. I will try to turn it back on, and it will show the "phone battery dead" icon.
It has been doing this for about 10 days now. I keep trying to do different things to conserve battery life with the hope that this problem will go away, but it hasn't. I keep my phone in a thick case and have never dropped, submerged or otherwise damaged it.
Any advice for what I should do? Thank you for the help.

  • Mail shuts down as soon as I try to read any mail sent in the last 24 hours

Long story short.....got a PDF file from my business, and as soon as I went to try to open the PDF file...my mail program shut down completely.
I thought this might be just an isolated incident, so I went to .MAC and forwarded the email to a PC and it opened fine. I then deleted it off my .mac server. However upon trying to go back and read mail today....my mail program closes as soon as I click on a email to read. My log reads as follows.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. THanks

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for PPC
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • MacBook Shuts Down when I Remove the Adapter

It all started a couple of days ago when I was watching a DVD. I bumped the adapter and the laptop shut off. Thinking I missed the Low Battery message I plugged it in and rebooted all good and I left it plugged in not noticing what color the LED was on the cord. Since I was on vacation I decided to drop in to the Apple Store in Philly to get a tour of Leopard, I liked it so much I bought it that day and did a clean install to 10.5.1 from 10.4.11 when I got home. When I was all finished I unplugged the adapter and rebooted because the adapter said the battery was charged. On reboot everything came on and then shut off after a second. I had noticed too my adapter sometimes would show green when the battery was dead (weeks before my upgrade) but then I would unplug the adapter from the laptop and plug it back in again and all systems were a go. I had Googled the problem to see if any other person had this problem and found there were quite a few cases of this and that Apple seemed to be having problems with their batteries. I did try to download the Battery update 1.2 and to no avail. I have tried to reset the PMU and the PRAM but to no satisfaction either. I haven't found anything on the Apple website to tell me how to find out about the battery problem except some folks that have been having the same problem, in my Google search it said Apple was handing out replacement batteries for defective ones made between curtain dates. I don't know were to go from here, I bought the laptop in 2006 but I don't have a receipt for proof of purchase if it is the battery...... HELP!!!

Ok I gained a little ground on the subject. First I downloaded iStat Pro (freeware) from iSlayer.com to see if the computers logic was fried, I figured that if the logic was bad iStat would give me the same reading of battery condition as MacOS did. Alas! iStat gave me a different reading than MacOS so that narrowed the problem down to the battery itself. My battery health was at 79% and it was only 96% charged although MacOS said 100%. So I started a slow battery drain so that I would not cause gross amounts of heat as it discharged (in case it was damaged) in Sleep mode. The first time I tried this I went to the Apple Menu, put the laptop in to Sleep Mode and shut the lid. All was good until I unplugged the MagSafe adapter from the laptop and it did a hard shutdown. So after a few trial and errors I simply closed the lid and unplugged the MagSafe adapter from the laptop and Hoorrah it worked! It was sleeping on the battery power. When I reopened the lid though it did a hard shutdown. I decided to start again and booted with the adapter plugged into the laptop, shut the lid after startup was finished and unplugged, all good. Also a good reminder here, I waited 1 Minute after shutting the lid to unplug the adapter, if I did it before that it would do another annoying hard shutdown. After all of this I let the battery flounder for a while in Sleep Mode probably 2 hours and opened it back up again. To my disappointment another hard shutdown, but when I plugged in the MagSafe adapter it went orange like it was charging Woohoo grrrrrreat! I rebooted and the Icon on the bar showed it was charging but did a hard shutdown again when I unplugged the MagSafe adapter from the laptop. Rebooting one more time I let the battery charge until it showed 100% charge, iStat confirmed it and I closed my eyes and unplugged the adapter from the laptop. Nothing happened, it was running off of the battery with a battery health of 84% from iStat. So now here I am doing this on battery!! If you try this you may want to try to run the battery down a little at a time and then recharge it (if this works for you at all), a little more every time until it is dead so that you gradually discharge the battery and don't kill it by chance the first time around. Download iStat its a great utility widget. I am on my 235th charge cycle on this battery and I am gaining ground on the battery health by doing what I explained above. Also remember that macbook batteries like to be totally discharged (empty) before recharge. I will keep posting with my results.

  • MacBook Pro shuts down as soon as I unplug the power

    Help,
As soon as I unplug the power of my MacBook Pro, it shuts down, and all of my unsaved stuff is lost. Anyone got a soloution?
PS Is the battery user replaceable? I am using the Mid-2010 model.

No, that battery is not really user-replaceable. What numbers do you see for that battery in Apple symbol/About this Mac/More Info/System Report/Power? (Especially the Charge and Health Information.)

  • DVI shutting down my computer- if dvi adapter connected will not re-start

I have a G4 12" Powerbook running Leopard 10.5.4. I just noticed that when I plug in an adapter for external video into my DVI port the computer flashes a blue screen then asks if I want to shutdown. before I can answer it turns off. This happens whether a monitor is attached or not. If I try to restart with the DVI adapter attached the computer shuts down before the startup is complete.
I use to use external monitors a lot but have not for the last 2 months when I went to try it will not work. What could be wrong??

I installed the Mac OS X 10.7.3 Supplemental update 1.0 on 3/24/12 and now it won't wake from sleep when put to sleep from the Apple menu or energy saver time out. The not waking from sleep did not happen before the update. (Safari 5.1.4, Digital Camera Raw C ups 3.11, and iTunes updated at the same time) I didn't have any sleep problems with the previous 10.7.3 update install on 2/3/12
iMac 21.5 inch 2.5ghz i5 Mid 2011 Lion 10.7.3 11D50. Mouse and keyboard are hardwired, no bluetooth, no other USB or Firewire devices. I tried the PRAM and SMC resets, Bluetooth off, All Sharing off and nothing works.
Energy saver set to sleep = never, works for now; if it doesn't sleep - it can't wake from sleep, eh?
In any case: other users might consider holding off on the 10.7.3 update 1.0, because I didn't have the sleep problem before.
I'm wondering if I can revert to the previous version 10.7.3 with Time Machine, or if there is a fix I haven't come across searching the forums

  • TS4123 My hp laptop shuts down as soon as I start itunes.

It did not do this when I first got my hp and installed. I haven't accessed itunes in some time and needed to get on today. Every time that I try to start itunes it shuts down my hp pavilion g6. I am running windows 7 with intel core processor. I have bsecure installed to monitor our router/wifi.  Bsecure and itunes are both installed on my son't laptop and they are not causing problems together.
I have searched so many sites for solutions. I have updated all of my windows settings and itunes is up to date.
    Thanks for any help.

Are you letting the battery to be nearly totally discharged?  If so, that will dramatically shorten the battery life span.  Keep it attached to AC as much as possible.  Here is some battery information from Apple:

    Hi
And You've done the common steps when in trouble ?
    • Trash iMovie pref file etc.
Se my not all up-dated list.
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
    • Disconnect all external hard disks and try - FireWire, USB/2, AirPort or Net-work connected.
To work OK I prefere FireWire AND it must be Mac OS Extended formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - WILL NOT DO for video - neither for iMovie or FinalCut or iDVD any version ! This also includes any USB-memory sticks.
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09 or 11)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • iMovie updated ?
    • QuickTime updated ?
    • Mac OS version ?
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 4 - will not work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
    • Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.1.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iMovie’09 v. 8.0.6, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpful insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

My computer shuts down temporality in just a few minutes when not in use.  How can I change the time to a different setting?

Can you please post this type of question over at
