T3i with a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L. Focus problems

Hi I have a canon T3i and just bought a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L. But mt photos just don't seem as if they are very sharp or focus. I took a photo of a snow owl and the ones with my 55-250mm actually turned out better! I was shooting at a shutter speed of 640 and 1000. Any suggestion

There is a learning curve with very long tele lenses.
At 400mm on your T3i you are actually trying to use a 640mm lens.
That's not only going to magnify the subject you are shooting but all the errors you may have made. And at the same ratio!
You are probably looking at a minimun shutter of 1/640. Making 1/1000 likely the slowest shutter you will get super sharp photos.
Investment in a good tripod is a great addition to your equipment.

If you refer to Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS II USM + Extender 2x III, then you'd get f/5.6 all over the focal length range vs. the EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM (meaning you'll get a bit more of light at the short telephoto end when using the 100-400)
Both combinations are very sharp, but I think the 100-400 is a bit sharper when compared to 70-200 2.8L II + extender 2x III, noticeable if you use full frame DSLRs.
If you use APS-C DSLRs, then I'd suggest going for the 70-200 2.8L IS II USM because you'll get more than 1 f-stops of light if you shoot from 70 to 200mm (without the Extender 2x III) compared to the 100-400, and the sharpness is really amazing (better than 100-400 in both Full Frame and APS-C cameras)

Extender with 100-400mm lens.

I have heard and read both - The 1.4x extender will and will not allow autofocusing with a 7D and a 100-400mm lens. Does anyone know?

At the 100mm end of the zoom range, the lens becomes an f/6.3 -- and probably your camera can focus at f/6.3 ... but that's pretty much the limit. At the 400mm end of the range (and in fact even at mid-zoom levels) the 7D wont be able to auto-focus. The 5D III and 1D X have working phase-detect AF at f/8, but not the 7D. Pretty much all bodies hit the limit at f/5.6 (but usually you can sneak in f/6.3), but only those two bodies have working auto-focus at f/8.
If there is enough light, it may be able to focus in live-view mode becasue that uses constrast-detection AF, rather than the phase-detect AF points and if there's enough light and contrast it may be able to work, but contrast-detection isn't as fast so if this is for sports or action photography then that's probably not worth persuing.
You could always rent a 1.4x from one of the many rental agencies and give it a try to see if it works for you.

Can anyone give me feedback on the 100-400mm lens?

I am looking at replacing my 35-350mmL lens with a 100-400mm lens. Anything I should know about the 100-400mm lens?

I have both of those plus the 28-300 L IS & use them a lot for my (summer) events. It's a little bit heavier than the 35-350 but generally speaking a very versatile lens that gets good reviews. There are at leat 2 other threads about it that you should read before buying. What do you intend to use it for? and on what body?

Hi can't seem to get a sharp a image with my 70- 200 as I can with my 100-400mm. Should I be getting just as sharp photos with both lenses. I still have a warranty with best buy.

What are your shooting conditions? If you were below 1/400 or so the IS on the 100-400 could make a significant difference. Try a controlled test, on a tripod, same settings, IS off.

A couple things, I got my 100-400mm way, way back so I have used it a lot. It has marginal IQ which is really OK until you actually compare it to other similar lenses. This means by itself it is good but any addition can have undesirable results.
Don't get me wrong as I have some pretty darn good bird pictures with mine. However any time you add anything to the light path you degrade it. True for any lens not just the 100-400mm.
The most common problem is ghosting or flare caused by light bouncing off the filter. 75% of the time the filter will do no harm and I use them on almost all of my glass. I do use B+W or lens brand filters. Only high quality and less prone to cause problem.
Folks seem to have a problem removing the filter when conditiions arise that warrant it's removal. It does come off as easily as it went on! I don't have a filter on my 1000-400mm and I don't recommend you do either. But in the grand scheme of things it will not cause the end of the world if you do.

Would a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM be a good addition to a Canon EOS Rebel T3?

Would a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM be a good addition to a Canon EOS Rebel T3? I do already have a Canon zoom lens EF 75-300 lens in addition to the standard 18-55 lens.

I rented one and brought it with me to Italy to use on my T1i. It's a good lens and it takes great photos. The downfall is that it's very large & heavy. We had to drag it around in it's own separate carrying bag while we walked around Italy. It was great to take a shot of the top of the Duomo in Florence with it, when we were 2 miles away. We really couldn't find anything that we could use it on up close.
It depends on what you are going to do with it. If you're looking to take photos of wildlife, this would be a good lens along with a sturdy tripod.
It's quite a jump from the kit lens and the 75-300 you have. I had both of those lenses as well, then I upgraded my 75-300 to a 70-300 and that's really all I need. I also have the 18-55 as well as a 50mm prime.

ABZO Posting with T Type 100 By LSMW ( with Dep areas restriction)

I have few hundreds of Assets that are created before the Activation of New dep Areas. Now i have to updated the Acquisition costs to those 10 and 11 Dep areas only. I am able to do the update the acquisition costs to Asset master by ABZO tcode with restricted T type 100 for 10 and 11 Dep areas manually But i have to do it by LSMW process with BAPI method, But ended up in the following error message.

Transaction type 100 has a depreciation area limitation, although posting is not mandatory in all of the depreciation areas entered. However, it is not possible to select depreciation areas in the current transaction.
Procedure
Check the specifications for transaction type 100 or use transaction LSMW to enter the transaction.
Please guide me the procedure to fix this issue.

Mistake is when i am recording the Session i haven't correctly determined the Depreciation areas. That lead me into error message.
I was able to do it successfully by Batch input recording method instead of BAPI.

Excel 2013 (pro plus) extermely slow with sheets with more than 100 checkboxes

I have a customer with Excel 2013 (pro plus).
They use sheets with more than 100 checkboxes in it.
The sheet is extremly slow to display. When a user starts scrolling down, the checkboxes appear very slowly, one by one.
It happens with all users, on both x86 and 64bits Windows 8 PC's and Office clients (32b & 64b).
Anyone any idea?

Could you please let us know what exactly these checkbox was used for ? Any formulas depend on these checkbox? Or any VBA code in this excel file? If so, you may need to check your formulas or the VBA code.
In addition,does this issue happen only on excel 2013? You can try to disable hardware graphics acceleration: Click
File, and then click Options. In the Advanced group, click to select the
Disable hardware graphics acceleration check box. Click ok.

Printing a PDF file online with any OJ 100 printer,we receive unknown error light sequence.

When printing a PDF file online on all of our Officejet 100 Mobile L411 USB printers, we encounter an undocumented error light sequence. The error light sequence we encounter is Power light blinks in conjuction with the Bluetooth light then those 2 lights blink off and the Resume light and both cartridge lights blink on. then those three lights blink off and the power light and the Bluetooth light blink on again and so it goes. You cannot reset this error by any other means other than powering the printer down and the printer will not power down with the power button. The only way the printer will power down with the above flashing light sequence showing is to disconnect AC power and remove the battery.
With the above described flashing light sequence displayed, the printer has no problem continuing to print and will continue to print other documents with the flashing light seguence displayed.
If the above mentioned PDF file is saved off to the computer and then printed from there, it will print on this printer ok without starting the flashing light sequence described above so evidently there are control characters attached to the online PDF file that get stripped off when the document is saved. I don't know what those characters could be but I do know that only all of the Officejet 100 printers we have display this problem. We can print the same documents on our HP 470 mobile printers ok without any issues or have no problem printing the same document with other models of HP printers. It is only when printing this document with any HP Officejet 100 mobile L411 printer that we have this problem.
As mentioned above, the flashing light sequence described above is not a sequence described in the Operators Manual so we don't know what it means. Also it is apparent that the online document(s) we are printing have some control characters attached to them that are incompatible with this printer but we do not know what characters they are. Are there some settings that we can setup in the printers properties that would solve this issue for us?
As I have explained above, this particular flashing light seguence does not keep the printer from printing the online documents or any other documents succesfully, however this sequence cannot be reset by any other way other than killing all power to the printer.

Reports with more than 100 columns

I am using Apex 3.2. I am using a classic report with more than 100 columns. So to use the custom heading in the report, I exported the page,did modification in exported sql file and imported back.
But when I am passing the parameters from a input screen for the first time either it is showing the all data avilable in the database or with only header. If I do the refresh in input screen and try it then it is working as intended. I am updating at the below loaction of the page.Let me know if I have to update anything more in the sql file.

Its just a general thought and I realize you know your application and user community better I do, but do you think your users are going to be very happy when they are presented with a report with more than a hundred columns? Have you considered maybe presenting the data in some sort of rolled up form from which the user can then drill down to the data they are particularly interested in. Also, I'm sure your LAN administrator would be happy not to see 100+ column by x number row reports being regularly shipped across the network.
Also, 100+ column reports suggests tables with 100+ columns which are probably not designed in a very relationally compliant way. I find that good DB design usually results in applications that have to make less compromises, such as hacking export files in order to fool the API into making ridiculous, unsupported and unsupportable compromises.
Just a thought..................

Is DTS supported in SQL server 2008 R2 with Compatibility level 100?

We have a DTS package which executes one stored procedure.
We have recently switched SQL server compatibility level from 80 to 100.
On Compatibility level 80 it was working fine.
When i switched the level to 100, and executes DTS it shows successfully executed but stored procedure doenot really executed.
When i execute stored procedure in query analyzer it executed successfully and results were as expected.
Please let me know Is DTS supported in SQL server 2008 R2 with Compatibility level 100?

We have just implemented DTS packages on SQL2008R2 using the Backward Compatibility Tools (serarch for SQLServer2005_BC.msi)
You need the files:
SQLServer2005_BC.msi or SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi
and SQLServer2005_DTS.msi
After you install these, perform the following -
1) To integrate DTS Designer with SSMS:
Copy the files SEMSFC.DLL, SQLGUI.DLL, and SQLSVC.DLL

Julien,
The number is users is just one component in detemining if SAP B1 would work well. If the transaction volume is low-medium then it should not be a problem.
I have implemented a couple of 100+ user installations and they are still using B1 after 3 years.
Minimizing the number of Alerts also helps in better system performance in case of such large installations.
