T400 (2765/21G) W2008 x64 possible ?

Hello Forum,
i have Windows 2008 (x64) installed on my T400. The Installation runs without any Problems.
After the Installation, i tried out to install and configure the WLAN Driver.
The Installation works without any Mistake. The WLAN-Card is shown in the Device Manager with no Marks, but through the search for avaible Networks, there where no Networks found. The Problemfinder says: Something wrong with the Device Driver or the Configuration of the TCP/IP Protocol is wrong.
So normaly, i think the Vista Driver are compatible to W2008 and they have to work. I searched the I-Net incl. Intel.com for other Driver, especialy designed for W2008 without success.
So, maybe one of you have succsessful installed W2008 on an T400 with all needed Device Drivers. I´m looking for Tips and maybe the Links for functional Drivers.
Can Anyone help please ?
Greetings Ralf

bluetooth might be tricky.   if the vista 64 driver doesn't work then you might be out of luck.   try downloading the driver from lenovo and installing it manually.
if the 4-in-1 card reader didn't install automatically then you'll need to search windows update or the vendor's website (ricoh, perhaps?).
the fingerprint sensor might work with a driver from UPEK.   try their website.
running 2008 on the newer thinkpads is tricky as not all of the devices have compatible drivers.   google, windows update, and manufacturer's websites are your best bet.   some devices you may have to live without.   after all, it is a server OS.
good luck!

  • T400 2765-21G "Connected by Vodafone": Simlock/Netlock? How to change the SIM?

    Hello,
I have this nice little T400 2765-21G and I wonder, if and how it is possible to use a third-party SIM to use the integrated UMTS/3G-WAN module (Ericson F3507g). I have not found any "slot" to insert a SIM, but the Access Connections utility says that there is a SIM and that it found a SIM card. But I can't see where... or is it fixed builtin and can not be changed by user?
If I buy a SIM card from some other provider, do I need to unlock anything to be able to use it? I read something like this on another web page ( http://www.ciao.de/Lenovo_ThinkPad_X60s_1704__Test_3213299 ). Do I need the PIN for the integrated SIM to unlock? (It is a company notebook and I'm not sure if the IT department can give the PIN belonging to this SIM to me)
Thanks in advance and kind regards

The T400 WWAN cards are, in Europe at least, not SIM / Provider locked, they were on the X60 and T60 systems. The PIN number is required to be entered for the SIM card which is inserted in the slot. I have installed SIM cards for T-Online without problems on T400 and other systems.

  • T400 (2765/21G) Audio-Recording only from Microphone ?

    Hello Forum,
in my T400 works an Conexant Smart 221 Chip for Sound.
Vista x64 Ultimate is my System.
Now I try to record Sound from an avi File (During the File play).
The Problem is: In the Recording Settings, Microphone is the only Choice for Record Source.
I missed an entry like "Stereo-Mix" or "What you hear" (the Devicename is Different).
In every PC or Notebook System I ever had, I was able to record the Sound that actually plays on the System.
So what...? Do I need other Driver ? Doesn´t the Conexant Smart 221 support that ?
    Anyone an Idea ?
I hope the Post is readable for you, and my English is realy not perfect

    Hello Userle,
unfortunately, the stereomix feature is disabled, by hardware, since T/ 61 series.
It seem there is no workaround to get to work. Please have a look at this extenisive thread

  • T400 (2765-A54) Camera Resolution ?

I just bought a Windows XP SP3 T400 2765-A54 from CDW and was verifying that it contains everything it is supposed to. The camera resolution is spec'ed at CDW and every other vendor (and in the general Google Tech Specs shown in Google shopping) as 1.3 Mega pixels (I couldn't find any info on this on Lenovo.com except in the outet, but it didn't specify any resolution there).
When I take a picture using the default windows camera app (when you click on the camera in My Computer)  it comes out 640 x 480  (0.25 Megapixel). There's no setting to change the resolution in the control panel or device manager. I also tried the Roxio Media Import that's in the installed Lenovo Camera Center, and there also doesn't seem to be a camera resolution setting. I also checked the Lenovo site for driver updates, and I have the latest driver.
Is the camera 1.3MP for photos ? If so how do I change the resolution?

The generation of 1.3MP webcams kinda sucked; there's no white balance control. The 2.0MPs are far better.

  • T400 (2765-T6U) Hanging on Logon After Wireless Nic Install

So we have recieved our first batch of 4 T400's (2765-T6U) and I of course wiped them out and loaded on XP Pro with SP3 and updated everything so all devices had their respective drivers. But once I installed the Wireless NIC drivers (Intel WiFi 5100 Link) from either Lenovo or Intel the logon process hangs once you type in your username and password and press enter. It hangs for a good minute and then proceeds along at lighting speed. And I have rebuilt our base laptop now twice and the same issues exists. If I uninstall the Intel Wireless drivers, I have no issues but sadly we can't have that. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
We have the same problem you describe, only it does not matter if we use the fingerprint software to log in or not. The product is a T400 2765 - 22G.
Our setup is pretty much like you describe it, clean winxp install, drivers from the lenovo website and lenovo power management software, fingerprint software and access connections.
Now the difference is that your solution does not work for us, the wireless zero service is enabled, disabling or enabling it again does not solve the issue, the only thing that helps is disabling the wireless device or uninstalling it, but this is not an option for obvious reasons.
I hope somebody knows what to do next, because other drivers, sequence of installation and exlusion of other software ( access connections, power management software ) does not give us positive results.
    Regards.

  • Win 7 x64 - possible to install CS4 64-bit only?

Is it possible to install only the 64-bit version of CS4 on Win7 64-bit ?
I do not really need to keep both versions (I do not use many plugins).
    Thank you

The general advice is to install both 32- and 64-bit version but there is a read-me on the installation disk which tells you how install CS4 64-bit only.
    Quote:
If you want to install ONLY the 64-bit application follow these steps:
    1. Run the Photoshop CS4 installer.
    2. Enter your serial number. Click Accept.
    3. On the right side of the Options panel under the 64-bit heading, uncheck the box for Adobe Photoshop CS4 (leave the “Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64-bit)” option checked).
    4. Finish installation.

  • Restoring a Blank HD to factory defaults (including the hidden partition) [T400, Vista x64]

    Hi,
    Background info:
I'm installing linux, and instead of asking about everything at once, I'm separating my problems into multiple questions.
I plan to remove all partitions, make new ones (adding an extra one for linux) and then use the recover stuff to bring back windows
The main question (this one), is:
If I completely clear the hard drive of all partitions, and then re partition to include one extra linux (ext3) partition, can I use the "Product Recovery CDs" (the 14 cds that I have burnt using the thinkvantage software) to restore the computer to the exact factory default state? i.e., will it:
    1) Completely restore vista
    2) Restore the hidden recovery partition (I understand the CDs also act as a recovery partition, but there's 14 of them... I don't know how well I can maintain that many CDs, so I'd rather have another copy on the HD)
    3) Not screw up the thinkvantage "stuff" (this is my first lenovo, so I'm not sure, but I want to make sure the support software doesn't go nuts once it notices there's an extra partition, etc.)
    Thanks in advance.

  • T400: Screen resolution is mixed-up

I'm using a 2765-21G ThinkPad T400, with Microsoft Vista Business as the OS. I'm using the highest screen resolution, which was native to the PC when I bought it (although I did change the DPI from the default 96 to 106).
Since the PC downloaded the latest batch of Windows updates the other day, certain applications (e.g. Skype, BBC iPlayer download manager, etc.) - as well as Windows message boxes and the ThinkVantage menu - seem to appear at a lower resolution, with a soft/fuzzy appearance to the writing and graphics. This is the case even though everything else remains at its normal, sharp resolution.
It's not the biggest problem in the world, and if I hadn't just paid full-whack on a premium laptop I might just let it slide. But as it is, I'd quite like to find a solution. Anyone got any ideas?

  • T400 killed SSD Vertex 2 - recovery? Recommended drives?

    Hello all,
after almost 6 months of working perfectly fine, my ThinkPad T400 2765 52G (out of the box except for double/quadruple memory and SSD) won't boot from a OCZ Vertex 2 120GB any more.
Screen will only show the common 2100 error, BIOS does not recognize the drive.
As I am on a 2-months'-trip abroad, I do not have many opportunities to mess around with the drive or even let a specialist have a look.
So far, I bought the first best HDD and a SATA to USB casing to check if the SSD can be found while connected to a USB port, without success. (Neither BIOS nor Win7 would recognize the drive.)
BIOS settings, prior to crash set to AHCI, are since then on Comaptible..
Is the drive a complete write-off?
Can the data be rescued in any economic way? As I am travelling, I was unable to obtain my usual backup routine and so some new folders slipped thorugh. They are of great value to me, but yet not worth the cost of a professional data rescue firm. In varius ThinkPad forums, I stumbled upon fellas who succeeded in accessing a device that had not been listed in BIOS via Linux.
Problems in combination with ThinkPads seem to occur on a regular basis with all current Vertex drives, be it due to incompatibility issues with the Sandforce controller or due to the physical measurements of the drives. Also, the Lenovo SSD Firmware update does not contain anything useful for OCZ products. So, what drives does Lenovo recommend in combination with the T400 series?
Thanks in advance for your help and support!
    Bernhard

Try OCZ forums for help. Many SSDs have issues. My T400 shipped with a Samsung SSD. If data reliability and compatibility is your goal (instead of speed), I'd look to an older Gen Intel or Samsung for a replacement. For Intel, I would go with a last gen Intel X25-G2. I went with an Intel 320 in my T420 and had the 8MB loose all data bug hit in the first day of use, the firmware fix for the 320 is coming who knows when. I wish I had just returned it and bought something else.

  • Strange activity CRBasic VS 2008 x64 on Win2008 x64

    Hi All,
First, I apologize for my English:)
I have a strange problem with CR VB2008 x64 runtime on W2008R2 x64. Problem is similiar to others on this forums, but I didn't find the solution.
    Background:
On W2008 x64 I installed asp.net applicationmssqlserver2008 x64 CRx64. Version CR is Basic 10.5.  Installation process of CR runtime was sucessfull. Application was compile in mode "AnyCPU".
Asp application and SQLServer cooperate correcty as long as CR is called. But when I want to create report, Crystal show unexpectedly note:
"The report you request requires further information" and shows text boxes:
    - server name: localhost
    - database: empty field
    - username: sa
    - passwd: empty field
    Strange this is that:
    a) the fields appear
    b) fields: server name, database, user are 'read only'. Is not possible write text into this fields.
    b) in 32bits environment on win2008x32 (app+ sqlserver x32+ CR x86) the same application works perfectly and stable.
I know, that CR VB2008 x64 works native in 64 bits. Because has not the need of the installation CR x32 and set 32 bits mode on IIS.
Advise me please, what I do wrong.
    Best regards
    Wojciech

    Hi Wojciech,
No problem. Never a stupid question if you don't know the answer...
Search MSDN ( microsoft.com ) for the client or how to install the 64 bit version for SQL Express. For higher versions of SQL Server the installer has an option to install the Client Tools. Not sure about SQL Express if it include a Tools option.
Bottom line is if you run in 64 bit mode the DB client either has to support 64 to 32 bit or it must have a 64 bit version.
Go into Control Panel, Admin Console and you should see a 64 bit ODBC Administrator. If you can create a System DSN using the MS SQL Native 10 Client then you have it installed. If you don't see it then check with MS on how to, MS doesn't support any other driver for SQL 2008.

  • T400 integrated video artifacts

I have a ThinkPad T400 2765-N8G with switchable graphics running Windows 7 Professional x64. Discrete grahpics adapter works fine, but when I switch to the integrated graphics, I often get artifacts that are easier to show than to describe (see the picture below, this is what I really see). Of course, I have all the latest drivers and system updates installed. Can you help me with this problem?

try switching off the VT-d from the bios menu if you are not using Virtualisation feature.
In windows 7 with the Intel 4500 MHD, you are required to use single ram stick or dual ram stick of same size to avoid the screen artificate problem.

  • T400 downgraded from Vista to XP resulting in system freeze after 10 min activity

    Hi,
I just purchased a T400 and have gone through the process of (re)grading the OS from Vista Business to XP. From the moment the setup dialogue for XP started (machine name, date, users etc), the whole systems freezes after working the machine for around 10-15 min. First, I suspected it to be a mouse freeze, but I get no reponse from neither the keyboard nor mouse (not sure if it is a complete system freeze or to do with mouse/keyboard drivers). Even the clock in the bottom right corner stops running.
To get the system going I need to force the system to reboot using the power on/off button.
The XP restore disc I used came from Lenovo with the computer, and I have followed the instructions by point. Do any of you recognize this problem? And more importantly, know how to deal with it

Message Edited by Missmostly on 10-16-2008 08:56 AM

    Hi,
I posted a message on the forum 5 days ago, and got no replies.  I agree the  problem description might be a bit vague, so here we  go again:
I recently purchased a T400 (model 2765, 21g) with the XP downgrade option (the MS Windows XP Conversion Kit containing 2 CD's: Lenovo's Rescue &  Recovery plate + XP product recovery plate with SP2). During the installation of XP (the end part where you set up your user) the computer freezes (no response from keyboard). I power the machine off and on again, and the installation continues as it were. I finish the installation and the computer is set. After additional 10 min the computer freezes again in the same style.
I imagine it to be a powermanagement disagreement between MS system and Lenovos powermanagement system, and set every parameter to be always ON and full performance ( I am running on AC). This time the freeze doesn't happen for an hour. I then begin to reinstall the powermanagement drivers and the general drivers for this particular model running XP (from Lenovos drivers Matrix), and now I am looking at two hour before each freeze. That is if I don't plug in any external hard drives (then the system can crash within 15 min or an hour), and we turn a blind eye to the occational freeze after 10 min on the first boot of the day .
At some point I suspected there to be a conflict with the existing SATA drivers that I also have reinstalled for the occation.  Still the system is NOT stable.
And the frustrating thing is that I have no clue why. The sympthom is always the same, complete screen freeze ( I do not know if the system is active behind (no hard drive running)), that can only be cured with a forced boot.
If any of you reconize this, please assist me to a solution. I have by now installed all programs to my liking including all MS updates (SP3 etc), and hope there is a way to get to the core without a complete reinstall (or worse, return to the realm of Vista)
