T400 & Best Motherboard Available 2012

Evening All,
I currently have a Lenovo T400 (7417-CTO), and have loved it since its first bootup.  I've upgraded a handful of components, including the drive and memory (Samsung SSD 830 series and 8GB RAM).  I'd really like to upgrade my motherboard for a few reasons:
- Need more video card power.  Currently running the onboard Intel card (didn't upgrade to discrete when purchased).
- I want to capitalize on my new SSD's full potential (Sata III).
What's the best available motherboard for the T400 series in terms of an upgrade?  Would a new T420 motherboard with an Nvidia chip fit the casing of a T400, and be compatible (i.e. keyboard, buttons, lights, etc)?
Thanks a bunch everyone,
Benjamin

Might be about time for a T420?
Another option is find an Advanced Dock (not mini-dock).  ebay has them.  You can put in a lower-power video card (under 50 watt), possibly as high as an AMD 5570/6570.  You will want to search around for other's experience - this is now a bit of an old solution as well.

A little patience would be a virtue. This is a volunteer-staffed user-to-user forum, and reposting after 5 minutes isn't likely to endear you to the other users who respond when they have time available.
If this problem happens everywhere you need to have the phone checked out, as Ralph says. If it is only in certain areas it could be network congestion or a partial network outage. If that is a possibility contact your carrier.

    Hi,
best driver available for MicroSoft SQL server?i-net software has written a solid JDBC driver based on TDS. The trial version is limited to a single connection. http://www.inetsoftware.de/English/Produkte/JDBC_Overview/ms.htm
jTurbo provides jdbc driver for MS SQL Server (www.jTurbo.com).
Merant technologies also provides jdbc driver for MS SQL Server. Find more details at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/2000/jdbc.asp.Microsoft licenses MERANT's JDBC driver for SQL Server 2000.
I cannot comment which one is the best driver. It depends on your project requirements and the buget alloted.
    Hope this helps.

  • Best MotherBoards

Hi MSI, may I ask which MotherBoards is the best in game.msi.com
    Thank you!

    1. What do you mean by unbuffered? standard non-ecc (server Grade) RAM as it only supports of the shelf unbuffered RAM that is sold to the general public!
    2. Did you mean 8sticks * 8gb? what if I put 32gb * 2 sticks, would it be available, if it's available, would it be faster? or the 8sticks * 8gb is faster? (the board only supports 8GB sticks of ram maximum and its quad channel and what your asking hase nothing to do with the speed)
    3. Can you explain more about PCI and PCIE? (Like which ones could RAM put at and which one could graphic cards put at) ----- it has 7 PCI Express slots all the slots should be capable of using any expansion card and as for ram thats seperate as it has 8 DIMM slots for DDR3 Memory!
    5. I thought that Graphic Cards and Sound Cards were the same and I thought that we can only put one graphic cards, if we put 4, would it be the same or better, for the sound card, do you know which Sound Card is the best? you can use upto 4 graphics cards but 1-2 of them are more then enougth unless your video editing alot. and sound cards are different as they output sound only and no video! and as for the best sound card ii would say a ASUS Xonar card is the best type currently!
expansion cards are like anything else that if you have enougth lanes on the PCI express you can populate with 4 Graphics cards and 3 other expansion cards for anything else like sound, more HDD's, wireless or anything else

  • What is the best motherboard to use with Photoshop elements 11 premium edition?

I'm going to build my computer by selecting components and having Fryes service put them together. I'd like to build a system with a motherboard that supports 8 gb RAM, and a 250GB SSD drive (SATA III) with a 750gb or 1 TB  7500 rpm slave internal drive or an similar 7500 rpn external drive. The system I build will have usb 3 and hdmi ports with a dvd rom 24x drive. It will have a Windows 7 premium home edition OS. It will have an Nvidea video card with 2 gigs of independent ram.
I'm trying to build a PC that works efficiently with Photoshop Elements premium version 11. I am a casual home user. I will be doing some basic video rendering of DVD home videos that I have converted to dvd from VHS and 8mm format.. I am NOT a gamer.
I have a monitor and therfore I'm only interested in building a desktop box with thease specs and I'd like to get the best quality componenets for my desktop build for $1300 or less.
I'm not interested in anything from Dell (alienware).
Any motherboard recomendations or criticism/recomendations of other components I want to use will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

It’s really a personal choice. I’ve recently bought a new Dell. Like you I was not interested in the consumer products so I purchased a business spec machine and I’m very happy with it. It’s Dell Precision T3600 with Intel Xeon CPU and Nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card. Running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with 8gb RAM. I got 1TB and 500gb drives both 7500 rpm with a 3TB Seagate external HD. I gave SSD a miss until prices drop further. I don’t think the extra speed is that relevant to Photo editing although perhaps more relevant to video rendering. I’m also not gaming or running other apps that might benefit from an SSD. Photoshop Elements is a 32 bit program which runs well on 64 bit systems but cant use more than 1.5 to 2GB of RAM. Premiere Elements has 64 bit support and can therefore take advantage of the extra RAM. At the end of the day it’s your choice.

  • Is iSight the BEST webcam available for Macs?

Can anyone tell me if iSight is really the best webcam for the Mac? Assuming I find the appropriate 3rd party software to support it, is there a better webcam available?

    Hi Matt:
Interestingly, a number of folks have been asking the same question lately. You may want to review the many posts in this forum. I think they will be quite helpful. As always, if you need anything specfic, let us know!

  • Getting the best possible available speed?

During the 5 years since we moved house, our BT download speed has been dropping, and becoming more unstable.
Several Openreach engineers have visited the property, and all say basically that the problem is all down to the very old small section 300 pair copper e-side cable which runs from our nearest exchange (Leominster) - about 5.5km away, to a cabinet which is literally right outside our property, and from which we have a virtually direct feed.
Now, according to the engineer who came today, the 'output' from the exchange is 8Mb/s and a good 'pair' into the cabinet should still give almost 3 Mb/s at the cabinet... not great I know, and no sign of Infinity here yet!
My download speed on the BT Speedtest this morning was a fairly typical 665 Kb/s, but the engineer checked in the cabinet, on another 'pair' (which he later found to be a blocked line) which was showing a speed of about 2.5 Mb/s on his equipment. He duly switched us onto this, but the cabinet speed then only showed about 1.1 Kb/s. His answer to this was... "They must have been using a different ISP!"
I believe that the exchange is also 'used' by Orange and 'TalkTalk' but of course they still have to use the same BT 'cable' from there to the cabinet. My ISP is BT, so who can I contact to ensure that I am receiving the maximum speed which has been shown to be available?
Sorry for the long post, but I can obviously post some more 'stats' if that will help at all, but I think it has been definitely established by now, that it is an 'external', rather than an internal problem... but if it does make any difference I have a Home Hub 3 plugged into the master socket, which feeds my PC directly.

it would help with more stats so please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results.
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Im looking for the best stylus available for the ipad mini retina. for creative design

I am a designer and would like pressure sensitivity if available. I have seen the pogo connect which looks great but does it support the mini retina yet? Or the best alternative? I will be using paper and Adobe ideas. THANKS!

I agree with Miklos - the 53 is nice at first, but is awkward and heavy. It has a huge rubber tip and is stiky on the screen. I like the amPen Hybrid Stylus on Amazon. They are under 8$ and are a great quality stylus that actually works! They have the fiber mesh tips that can be changed out when you want a fresh tip. They also come in a variety of colors. Was able to get a stylish black on for myself and a pink one for my wife and daughter. We also got a 5 pack of the tips they sell so we ould have extras when we need them. The stylus tip is the best part though. It is soft and glides nicely on the screen. It is not stiky and clingy like the rubber tipped stylus pens you see these days. Link incuded. They even have free shipping! Can't beat that for under 10$

  • What are the best graphics available for the Macbook Pro 13"

I am 13 years old and I am looking at a Macbook Pro.
I am between the 15" and 13". The only thing stopping me from going straight to the 13" is the graphics. I hear they aren't that good. Is there anyway to get the graphics from the 15" and 17" or just any graphics that are better than the 13" ones"?
I will be using it mainly for movies and games, but i am not a huge gamer and I dont expext the very best.

    Thanks
But the reason i like the 13" better is because i find the 15" to big for my liking.
Are the graphics that bad? Will i notice it?

  • Freed memory not available 2012 MacBook Pro Retina

I have a 500 GB flash storage drive on my 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. In a bid to run things faster for my music production, I've moved my large ITunes library onto an external hard drive. I backed everything up and trashed the iTunes folder after the external was all working, repaired disk permissions and restarted but my freed memory is still not showing. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it.  It will show all of your files and the respective sizes.  See if this will assist you ion detecting the problem.

  • No imformation about this motherboard available?

Hi Forum, my first post here,
I am diagnosing a fault with a MEDION PC MT6 computer (type: MT188) and I am trying to download a motherboard manual, but the MSI archive does not list this motherboard. It is a 2004 computer and written on the motherboard is MICROSTAR FC MS-6747 VER 1 N1996.
I have googled this and find quite a few others have the same problem. However one forum I searched on says that the serial no. for this motherboard has changed to:
MSI 650 GM-L. Does anyone know if this is true?
I have downloaded the manual for the 650 GM-L, but don't have the computer here yet to compare it. The computer won't load its BIOS at the moment, but the CPU fan is still running. If I have to fit a PSU, I will need to know if the motherboard supports full ATX or only micro.
The computer has a pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz processor and 512 Mb of RAM and 533 Mhz FSB and running 32 bit Windows XP.
Thank you in advance for any help.

I'm sorry, but we can only offer support for MSI retail products--not for OEMs.

  • OK WHATS THE BEST MOTHERBOARD AND CPU FOR ONLINE GAMING

Here i go again thinking about stepping up on motherboaerds and cpus! If you have an opinion on which would make the best online gaming setup let me here you hollor! I will only go with intel so all amd lovers  dont bother!

He's better off with a Q6600 over the E6850, because you can clock the Q6600 to QX6850 speeds and it's quad core, so future proof anyway.
    And the Q6600 costs less.
However the CPU will be very limited by that 7900GT.
    A 8800GTX or HD2900XT would be a better choice.
EDIT: Get a G0 stepping Q6600, they have a lower TDP of 95w and require less voltage.

  • Is there any technical details about T400 builtin camera available for public?

    Hi
Can someone please let me know what is the model or brand of T400 integrated webcamera.
I just want to search and see whether it is supported by linuc or not.
    Thanks.

In my T400, the webcam is from Sonix. The driver is for the models SN9C211 and SN9C213. So likely, one of these models is in the notebook.
The website is: http://www.sonix.com.tw/. Though, there are no Linux drivers listed in their support section.
