T400 Bios and Beep noise question

Two easy questions
1. How do I reach the BIOS? Is it ctrl+P at startup? If so, where can I find out or make a password to put in? I just got my laptop shipped to me on August 5 and have no idea where this password is.
2. Once in the BIOS, is it pretty obvious where to find the section to disable some of the beeping noises that arent necessary? If not, can I have some help on where to find it?
Thanks.

The bios key on my thinkpad is F1 at boot.
But all the sound setup is done in the OS under the control panel -> sound if you are using windows.

  • Flashing apple logo and beeping noise

i just closed my macbook and then all the sudden the apple logo on the front cover started to flash and then that beeping noise (like when you flip it open) comes on and it just repeats over and over again. when i opened it back up, it was already on my desktop but then when the beeping noise came on again, the screen went black so i closed it and opened it back up. it's working fine right now (at least it is for now) but what was going on?

Beeping noises can be RAM-related. Try reseating your RAM.

  • On start up - grey screen of death, and beeping noise

    Hi,
I'm worried my computer got fried somehow.
I was was plugged into power, ethernet, mini-div (conneced to second monitor) and a usb mouse. I closed the lid and unplugged the cords (which order I don't remember). 2 hours later I went to take the laptop out of its bag and it was EXREMELY hot, and the fan was running loudly. It would not wake up. I did a hard re-boot using the power button. Upon restarting the usual 'boom' is heard and then I see the grey screen (no cursor) and then it just continues to beep and I get nothing.
    Please help!

Don't be afraid to run the Apple Hardware Test, AHT, from your original disks.
Might try resetting your System Management Controller, SMC, also.

  • [T400s] beeping noise when wireless switch is "on"

Whenever I turn on wireless connectivity via the switch on the right side of my Thinkpad T400s 2808-D9G, I hear an extremely annoying, beeping noise. It immediately stops when turning "off" this switch again.
The noise described above is not constant. Sometimes it's accompanying every key stroke. Sometimes on the contrary: It's getting louder when the notebook is idle and stopping when a key is pressed.
It even disappears completely from time to time (for minutes) and then, all of a sudden, it's there again, noisier than ever before!
Does anyone else experience the same problem? Is there a known solution to this? Apart from this, my T400s incl. WLAN, WWAN, Bluetooth etc. is smooth as can be!

    Hi tuxor,
is your problem answered here http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/104224-hochfrequentes-%E2%80%9ESirren%E2%80%9C-der-Funkmodule?p=124...
    already?
I think it normal that some sounds are coming out of electronic components, and it not a warranty issue, me thinks.

  • Tecra S1 boots correctly but does not work properly and has BIOS error beeps

Toshiba S1 has started to crash regularly after a certain period of use.
    Sometimes: BIOS error beeps: Short-short-long.
Sometimes: Bluescreen of reduced screen size/reduced resolution.
Sometimes: Just crashes (frozen) and has to be shut off manually.
As Toshiba uses its own BIOS, does anyone know what these beep sounds mean or can provide support?
Is it a hardware / connection problem between graphic card and monitor or is it a memory error?

    Hi,
did you tried to make a memory test? If not, I would suggest you to make it. For such tests I would prefer using "memtest86" (www.memtest86.com)
Otherwise I would assume that your mainboard is malfunctioning and you will have to bring your machine to an local ASP.
If you need help finding an ASP, here is a good site:

  • Continuous Beeping noise on Startup and at other times

My iMac is over a year old. I have no idea what is wrong or happening here but below is what happens.
I hear a continuous beeping noise from my iMac at times. I had Firefox open and when it started beeping, a little search bar opened up at the bottom left of the browser so I assumed it was a sticky key on the keyboard so I pressed the spacebar and the beeping stopped and the search bar disappeared. This happened a few more times while I was using the browser.
The other day I started up my iMac and before it opened to the desktop it showed a small iMac HD icon so I clicked it and it started up normally, but then the beeping started so I just hit the spacebar and it stopped. Now I do remember after I turned the iMac on I accidently pressed some keys on the keyboard so this maybe why it showed the HD icon but I don't really know.
Yesterday morning I turned the iMac on and came back to hear it was beeping again. It was just a fast non stop beeping, too fast to count the beeps. It had loaded into the desktop so it was all good apart from the beeping, again I pressed the spacebar and it stopped.
Yesterday afternoon I got more beeping. Beeping is not just on startup it must be something else. I was using Firefox and was trying to scroll down the page, yet it kept jumping back to the top not letting me scroll down. This happened the other day when the beeping started. Anyhow I closed the browser and the beeping starts. I was able to turn the sound down and that got rid of the beeping, turned the sound up and the beeping still there.
    I tried this so far...
unplugged keyboard and started up mac = no beeping
plugged keyboard in and started up mac = beeping
Again this morning I turned my iMac on, and beeping happened again, this time I clicked System Prefrences and the beeping stopped. I then clicked the Sys Pref folder red icon to close it and it made a different noise, but closed. I then opened up Firefox and went straight to my bookmarks to find a link, it wouldn't let me scroll down my list of bookmarks either, then the beeping started so I closed Firefox. Then I heard a loud sratchy type noise, it was much louder and hearing this has now made me think, something is not right.
    Firefox version - 3.5.3
    Mac OS X version 10.5.8
I don't want to set PRAM or those settings yet unless it's needed as I don't know what settings/network etc it will remove or change.
    I appreciate any help:) thanks

  • New RAM and hard drive won't connect to computer.  It's still making the beeping noise.  Any ideas?

My computer stopped working and I thought it was my RAM and hard drive so I bought a new one of each of these.  However, when I tried turning my computer back on after replacing them, it still made the beeping noise.  I am clueless.  Does anyone know what could be the cause and how to fix it.  Thanks!!

    What type of beeping noise?
What machine specs? What type of RAM and HDD?

  • My macbook isn't powering up and makes a beeping noise in time with the sleep light

Hi There I hope someone can help!!!
I had disconnected the power cable and left the MacBook in sleep mode with the lid shut. When I now go to open my MacBook up, and wait for my system to resume from where I left off the screen doesn't on and the sleep light goes off. when I close the lid the sleep light goes back on as if it is in sleep mode but the same happens when I open it again, no power to the screen.
I order to try get my MacBook working again I tried holding down the power button and switching it back on again but the MacBook now looks as if it is going to power up but the sleep light comes on for about 3 secs and then beeps, then every 4-5 secs constantly the MacBook beeps once in time with the sleep light (to note the sleep light is not following its usual fade on fade off rhythm).
I have tried resetting the SMC using the shift command control option and power button (also this is the only way to stop the beeping and flashing) and when you try and switch on the MacBook if you just press the power button it just follows the same beep with sleep light routine, but if you hold the power button in then the sleep light then flashes quickly about 4-6 times and then starts to beep in time with the flash again.
I will also add I have not reconfigured anything or added any RAM to my MacBook it is still on the standard (manufacturing) configuration as I have been looking about for anyone with similar issues and the main question back seems to be have you changed the RAM, I have also tried resetting teh RAM and the proble still persists.
If someone can help it would be awesome!

  • Grey screen and makes a beeping noise...

    Hi,
My ipod nano seems to have went on the blink. It jusat comes up with a grey screen and when I try to do the toggle and two buttons at the same time it shuts down but then when it comes back on makes a beeping noise and reverts back to the grey screen.
    Can anyone help please?!?

Sometimes this is a result of a bad USB cable.  Try plugging the iPod in with a different USB sync cable to rule out the possibility of a damaged/faulty USB cable.
Have you tried other USB ports as well?

  • MacBook Pro will not start up, and is making low-pitched beeping noises

I bought my MacBook Pro four days ago and it had worked perfectly fine until yesterday. Now when I try to power it up it won't, and perpetually makes low beeping noises (even when closed) in intervals of 3. Does anyone know what is going on?

It means the RAM does not pass the data integrity check.  See here about beep codes: http://mediawiki.middlebury.edu/wiki/LIS/Apple_Computer_Beep_Codes

I saw your other post, but thought I would reply here as well. It is all about getting that headset seated all the way. If you can see any silver of the plug, it is not in far enough. Push harder. If it just won't go in, look in there to see if it is blocked. The bottom of the headset port is white, so if it appears all dark at the bottom... something is in there.

You are under warranty. You can call Applecare and get advice from the tech rep, or you can bring it to an Apple store or authorized Apple service provider.
