T400 cannot wake up or exit standby (suspend)

When my T400 system enters standby mode, I am unable to "wake" it up.  The crescent moon light indicates on the bottom of the screen but when I press Fn F4, the system will not respond.  Closing and opening the lid does not work.  The only thing that works is to depress the power button for 5 seconds, which results in all unsaved work being lost.
I am running XP Pro SP3.  My Windows Updates are current as of 9-7-2009.   My version of ThinkPad Power Manager is 1.46.  My model number is 2765-T6U.
I used to be able to control power settings from within Windows, but now it appears that Power Manager is overriding.  When accessing Power Manager from my least-priviledge user account, the scheme is blanked and the OK button is greyed out, so I'm not able to save changes to the power settings.  When entering through Fn F3, I have the same problem.  When I log in as a local administrator, I can change settings, but they do not apply to my user account.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

That didn't work on my T400.  Mine will not enter standby or hibernate and it just hangs.  I have to do a hard reboot to get back in the system.   In isolating the problem I have found out that Access Connections is the offending software.  Once disabled, the system works fine.  However, I lose the functionality of Access Connections which is a pretty slick program.

  • V560 cannot wake up from sleep/standby

    hi all,
My V560 is not waking up after entering sleep/stand by mode automatically. screen remains black. usb is not working. hdd indicator light is on.
i have to press power button long till force it to power off. i am using win 7 enterprise 32bit.

    hey azad,
place your unit on diagnostic mode via msconfig. restart your unit, login and do not launch any program.
if you have set your unit to go into sleep/standby after a period of time; let it do so.
once it is in sleep/standby , leave if for about 5 mins before "waking" it up.
can it wake up ? if yes, then it is a program you launch or a non-windows item that is launch in the background during startup that is causing the error.
    if possible, go to >>http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=607595
    and update your unit accordingly.

  • After 10.8.2 update i can no longer wake my macbook from standby with keyboard when the lid is closed

I just updated to 10.8.2 and now i can no longer wake my macbook froom standby when the lid is closed, it directly goes back to sleep
    steps to reproduce:
    1. attach secondary monitor and keyboard
    2. close lid
    3. wait 5 seconds for going to standby
    4. press any key on keyboard and type in user-credentials (notice how the 2nd monitor becomes the mainscreen)
    5. wait 5 seconds
    6. standby again
    side note:
i also have sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0" enabled, because i like to not use the integrated screen when its attached to a secondary screen, but since it goes back to standby right after login this is pretty much pointless

Same here, I think changed something in 10.8.2 that wrecked the "Open-MBP Clamshell Mode."  sigh

  • IPhone 5 won't wake up from sleep/standby!!

Hello, I am having a really strange problem with my iphone 5 for last 3-4 months. Sometime when i want to use my iphone from standby/sleep mode it dosent do anything! sleep/wake button, home button even silent/sound button dosent work. I know the silent/sound button dosen't work cause normally it vibrate when I turn it on. So the problem is my phone wont wake up from sleep/standby mode. The screen stays black and nothing works. If i press the home button and power button for 10-15 time very quickly, then it takes a screen shot and wakes up!! Sometime it stays in this stage for 5-10min.
So here is what i did to solve the problem.
    1. I restore the phone from phone and ituens.
    2. I delete all icloud backup and started as a new phone
    3. I went to apple store and replace the phone with a new one!!
    4. I jailbreak it at last to see if it solve the problem!
    5. turn off the icloud to see if it works
And sadly nothing of all this solved my problem! Now im not sure any specific app causing the problem but it almost impossible to find it out. So if anyone have any similar problem or any suggestion to solve it, then it will be really helpful.

    Hi All,
I hope I don't jinx it by posting this.  Yesterday I changed two of my settings and the issue has not occured again.
I changed the carriers settings and the LTE settings.
I went into "Settings" - then went into "Carrier" - Then I switched the "Automatic" to "OFF" I waited for the the carrier to show up (in my case Vodafone), then selected "vodafone au" manually.
Then I went into "Settings" - Then went into "General" - then I switched OFF the "Enable LTE" option (In my case I have switched this option OFF as I have not been sent the message to advise that I now have 4G service. According to Vodafone support, Not all vodafone customers have 4G only a selected 40 thousand customers accross Australia, I think all customers will have 4G around mid July )
Once this is done, I switched the phone off, Waited around a minute and then switched the phone back on.
I will update in a week if the problem doesn't happen.

  • Cannot Wake Up Sleeping WI-FI Computer

ARD V3.2.1 can direct a WI-FI Client to go to Sleep but cannot wake up the same WI-FI connected computer. This can only be accomplished via an Ethernet connection.
Recommend that this option be made available in a future software update.

And to clarify what I meant by "can't be done", not only it is not possible today, it's probably not something that could ever be done. A completely new scheme for waking a computer would have to be developed, one that did not depend on directed broadcast, and that's not likely to happen.
So again, sorry, but there no solution now nor will there probably be one anytime in the foreseeable future.

  • MacBookPro cannot wake from sleep mode.

My MBP cannot wake from a sleep mode.  This doesn't happen all the time, but it is much more often since installing Mountain Lion.  The only way to wake it is to force quit and restart.  I've done a SMC and it did not help.

Have you also tried to reset the PRAM as well?
    Reset PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
I found that if you purge the memory.
    In the Mac Terminal, type:
    purge
Delete saved memory state sleep file:
    In the Mac Terminal, type:
    sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage

  • Cannot wake up after screen goes black occasionally since update to maverick

Cannot wake up after screen goes black occasionally since update to maverick. I have to wait a few mintues and press power button to restart. Any one has similar issue?

    I've found the problem!!
Mavericks for some reason overheats the GPU.
I downloaded a free 3 day trial of Temperature Gauge Pro   http://www.tunabellysoftware.com/tgpro/
It showed a GPU 0 diode temperature of 122 degrres C. I think that's about 250 degrees Farenhiet. Insanely hot. No wonder the poor thing was crapping out. TGP alows fan control and so I set them to maximum and watched the temp come down quickly.
After all these months of frustration it turned out to be a simple fix. So I bought the program for $10. Sure a lot cheaper than having the Apple Experts replace a GPU or CPU like some have sugested.
What I still can't figure out is why Apple won't fix the problem from thier end and just update the fan parameters on Mavericks.

  • Mac Mini 2014 Oct cannot wake up after sleep

Mac Mini 2014 Oct Version, cannot wake up after sleep by typing on keyboard or moving mouse (both hardwired USB) if external HDMI screen goes to sleep mode too (usually after 1 min if no signal coming from the MAC). To wake up, I ust turn off and turn on the screen and keep typing on the keyboard. I already checked "prevent computer from sleeping if display goes to sleep". But does not help. This is very annoying. I now try to set the sleep timer to more than 1 hour. Wasting my energy and not helping. I tried connecting my HDMI screen to a HDMI to mini-Display port adaptor cable, then plug into the thunderbolt port of the MAC. Same issue, no improvement.

I may know whats going on with the wake from sleep issue. I have a Mac Mini 2012 but this  fix (see below) should work on any product running 10.8.2 Mine is at 10.10.1 and it worked.   First off you can tell if your Mac Mini is in sleep mode by looking at the small light on the front of the Mini. If its pulsing... going from bright to dim its in sleep mode. If you put your Mac in sleep mode, or it goes into sleep mode it will wake from sleep BUT ONLY for the first 4 hours. After 4 hours it will go into what is known as "safe sleep".  The light on the front will be off and you won't be able to wake your Mac. The only way to wake the Mac when in safe sleep is to hit the power button and then wait a minute or longer as your system will need to pull the data from the disk and load to ram. This is causing the issue where its not waking from sleep. You can move your mouse or hit the keys all you want but it won't wake from sleep. This is a real pain as you have to press the power button on the back of the Mac mini and wait for the system to come out of its slumber.   Here's what Apple says:
With the release of the OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 supplemental update 2.0, a new feature was introduced to enter safe sleep after four hours of the computer being connected to AC power. This is an effort to comply with the European Energy Standards (ErP Lot6). This will only occur if there is no wireless or Ethernet activity and no activity from external devices such as USB storage devices. This is normal behavior for the following models:
MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 and later)
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012 and later)
MacBook Air (Mid 2012 and later)
    iMac (Late 2012 and later)
Mac mini (Late 2012 and later)
I have found a fix that puts an end to this nonsense..... Go to the Mac terminal (Google if you don't know how or youtube) and run the following commands (Very easy to do and if a novice like my self can do you can for sure)
    1. When in the terminal mode type:
pmset -g          This will show your current configuration of your sleep, hibernate, etc You may want to print so you can restore these values if needed.
    2. Change your standbydelay to  86400    86400 is number of seconds which is 24 hours. Here’s the command:
    sudo pmset -a standbydelay 86400
    3. Change autopoweroffdelay to 86400  Here’s the command:
    sudo pmset -a autopoweroffdelay 86400
    4. At last but not least change autopoweroff to 0   Here’s the command:
    sudo pmset -a autopoweroff  0
Run pmset -g to verify your setting have changed.  I rebooted my system and checked again to make sure.  Since I made the changes no more going into Safe sleep!!! You can change the values to what you like. I used 86400 secs. (24 hours)  I hope this helps!

  • Why I cannot send my monitors to standby

why I cannot send my monitors to standby (not to screensaver, and not whole mac standby) with active corner or key combination (MBP mid 2009 10.8.2 and LED Cinema Display)? If I activate the stand by only the build in Montior goes to standby, not the external Monitor. I tried thie with differen monitors and it does no matter, if the main screen is internal or external. This issue is since update to 10.8.
    Thank you for any suggesions.
    Wolfgang

I didn't test your code but a few things come to mind.
Is your Port 25 blocked by your ISP? That could be one reason why it's not connecting.

  • Cannot wake up iMac after update 10.10.3

Today I updated iMac to OS X 10.10.3.
When iMac in sleep mode, I cannot wake it up (press keyboard or mouse or power button). I must to hold the power button about 5 sec to force it power off  and then press power button again to start it.

  • Cannot wake my iMac from sleep

I put my iMac to sleep by doing one of required steps. However, I cannot wake my iMac from sleep. I am using a wired keyboard and a wireless mouse.
May I know what is the problem?

    Hi nihow-
    But you are not done.
One of those devices is preventing your mac from waking. You may want to try plugging them back in one at a time and use it for a while to see if you can find the culprit.

  • Manually "sleeping" my MAC results in a state where I cannot wake it

I'm running 10.5.6, and if I manually sleep my iMAC, I cannot wake it. Only solution is to push and hold the power button for around 10 secs (or unplug the unit) and then power back on.
    Solutions?
    - Greg

I don't normally "sleep" my Mac. Today a family member visiting manually put it to "sleep".
When I tried to wake the Mac .... the USB hub came to life (lights) .... the scanner warmed up and reset, but the screen was dark and the keyboard/mouse dead.
I had to shut it down with the power button and restart. I have never had this happen before, but it is quite rare for me to "sleep" my Mac.

  • [SOLVED] DPMS Failed on Standby / Suspend / Off

    Hi Everyone,
I am trying to get my laptop's screen to shut off after a while, but I keep running into Problems.
I am running the latest ARCH version with KDE 4.2.x on a Toshiba Satego X200 - 21U Laptop with an Nvidia 8700M GT gfx card. I set Power Devil to control my screen and set the Standby / Suspend / Off times to 5min / 10 min / 15 min. Unfortunately, even with DPMS enabled in my xorg.conf my screen does neither of those. Once, the display went into standby but the backlight stayed on...
Here is some information about my current setup:
    1. User is in power / video group.
    2. xset dpms force standby / suspend / off does not work

    Hi,
I tried XFCE and everything behaves exactly the same; nothing has chanced.
Here is a little snippit from the Xorg.0.log:
    (II) NVIDIA(0): Initialized GPU GART.
(II) NVIDIA(0): ACPI display change hotkey events enabled: the X server is new
(II) NVIDIA(0): enough to receive ACPI display change hotkey events.
    (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "nvidia-auto-select"
    (II) Loading extension NV-GLX
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized
(==) NVIDIA(0): Disabling shared memory pixmaps
(II) NVIDIA(0): Using the NVIDIA 2D acceleration architecture
    (==) NVIDIA(0): Backing store disabled
    (==) NVIDIA(0): Silken mouse enabled
    (**) Option "dpms" "TRUE"
    (**) NVIDIA(0): DPMS enabled
    (II) Loading extension NV-CONTROL
    (II) Loading extension XINERAMA
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Option "VBEModes" is not used
    (==) RandR enabled
It shows that DPMS is, infact, enabled for NVIDIA. so that should not be the problem. This is all really strange and I don't know what else there can be done. Please let me know if you have any ideas regarding turning off the backlight on a Toshiba Satego X200-21U.
Also, I am running the 86_64 architecture version of Arch... could that be the problem?
    Regards
    Kenny

My problem is- when I touch color picker all functions stop and I cannot do enything  even exit.

What operating and version of photoshop are you using?
It sounds like the color picker dialog is opening off screen and that's why photoshop seems to lock up.
(you should be able to press the Esc key to dismiss the the hidden color picker dialog)
Do you have or had dual monitors?
Have you changed the screen resolution recently?
Anyway, resetting the photoshop preferences will probably gets things working again:
