T400 dim screen after fall

this is my first thinkpad ive owned, bought after strong reccomendation from a certain forum and a little reasearch into thinkpads in general, and up til now ive loved it and had no issuues with it whatsoever despite it being a second hand laptop.
the other day however i dropped the laptop on my foot while carrying more than was really sensible, and trashed my mouse in the process, i fear i may also have damaged my laptop, as the screen has become very dim since it took the fall, after a little asking around someone mentioned the possibility of a damaged LCD inverter, but i dont know a great deal about screens and am rather inxperienced, anyone have any idea as to what it might be?

you may use the LCD panel FRU part numbers in the following documents to assist your search:

You should purchase a genuine Lenovo LCD panel with Lenovo FRU printed on the back. Do not purchase a "compatible" screen. Be very careful shopping on Ebay, especially for LCD screens, and especially if you are "inexperienced" (as you acknowledge in your first post). The problem is that many Ebay sellers put Lenovo FRU or ASM part numbers in their listings so their products will come up when someone does a search. Then they ship you a "compatible" (non-genuine) LCD panel which may or may not work in your machine. There is also a great deal of confusion among Ebay sellers concerning CCFL vs. LED backlight. In addition, many Ebay sellers will not take the time to fully test an LCD screen but simply list it as a "working pull" or "good condition." They may not notice and may not mention dead pixels, light leaks, pressure marks, etc.
You may want to read the following post about the frustrating experience one of your countrymen had with three different LCD panels purchased from Ebay. An even better option would be to source an entire T400 LCD assembly (especially if you've decided to switch over from WXGA CCFL to WXGA+ LED backlight). It is much easier to swap an entire LCD assembly than to replace an LCD panel, especially if it's your first time. There is also much less opportunity for mix-ups, damaging the panel, etc. I have a great source of genuine Lenovo LCD panels and entire T400 LCD assemblies I can point you to. You may send me a message by clicking my name on the left and I will tell you more.
You may reference page 116ff. (124ff. in PDF reader) of the T400 Hardware Maintenance Manual. You will find step-by step instructions on how to replace your LCD assembly with lots of detailed diagrams.

Dim screen after installing Windows 10

Alright, so I got the notified yesterday that I could upgrade to Windows 10. I installed it with no problems, I used it to do homework and watch a few movies. Everything is perfectly fine. This morning, after checking my emails, my screen all of a sudden dimmed down to the lowest setting. I've messed with all the controls/settings; check the drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling them; and nothing. My screen is stil REALLY dim and it's really starting to hurt my eyes! Anyone have any idea as to when compatible drivers will be released? Going back to Windows 8.1 is my last resort. If I do go back to 8.1 will I be able to reupdate back to Windows 10?

I am running Windows pro 10 that maybe why you don't have the auto adjust. If you have already went to device manager and updated video drivers you might look at your monitor driver in device manager. Some people after upgrading to WIndows 10 found that it was disabled after upgrade which didn't allow them to adjust brightness till they enabled it. Make sure that the check box to apply repairs automatically is checked off before you click next. Iphone 3 only blank light screen after fall on floor...say sound when connecting to Itunes

the Iphone is not broken, but it only shows a light blue/white screen. It gives a sound when connecting to Itunes. I have tried ti hardboot but no help. im now trying to recover trough Itunes but the screen is still light blue. it can be the graphic somehow??

The phone is CERTAINLY broken. It worked immediately before you dropped it, and stopped working right after. What makes you think that your dropping the phone didn't break it?
You have 3 choices:
You can bring your phone to Apple and pay for an out of warranty exchange ($149 in the US)
You can buy another phone
You can find a 3rd party repair shop in your area and see if they can ifx it.

Firefox 4.01 keeps dimming the screen after a few secnds unless you keep moving the mouse.This is very annoying. It doesn't do it on Explorer or while in Windows so it is only happening ince I upgraded to 4.01

You could try a reset and see if that fixes it : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If it doesn't then you could try restoring to your last backup and/or resetting back to factory defaults. But if it's a hardware issue then you will need to contact Apple.

T400 LCD screen black after replecement

History - T400 (2767-31U), Win 7.
LCD screen broken due to a drop. Laptop still worked with an external monitor via VGA slot and I ordered a replacement LCD.
The replacement finally (used-off ebay) arrived and I followed the HMM manual and replaced the LCD. But it still does not work. I can continue to use the ext monitor without any issues. The replacement LCD was the full assembly not just the LCD screen.
Here is what I noticed:
1. When booting up, I see the Thinkpad logo very very faintly before it goes fully black again.
2. All the LCD panel lights work fine - Wireless, BT, HDD, Battery, Power etc etc including the reading light.
3. The laptop recognizes when I open and close the lid and switches on the ext monitor accordingly.
Here is what I did (I followed the HMM to the detail):
4. When I replaced the LCD, I noticed that the original LCD had 2 black wires insulated at the ends originating from the bottom left area of the LCD that were not actually plugged into any area of the MB. I did the same on the replacement LCD and left them as it is. I don't even know what these are.
5. I connected the other 3 wires(white, grey and black) and the main connector as the original LCD/HMM.
6. I uninstalled the display drivers and restarted and Win 7 automatically installed the drivers again.
7. The Most important part - The original LCD when powered on, DID have backlight showing me the mangled area of the screen so I know it worked before replacement.
I have read quite a bit of posts regarding T400 black screen issues, pointing me towards a faulty MB, blown fuse or faulty inverter. I know the replacement is an exact replica of the original LCD.
Could it be that I didn't connect the wires correctly to their respective slots on the MB?
Any inputs would be highly appreciated.

Do I understand correctly that you bought a complete new LCD Assembly? Do you have proof from the seller that it was working properly before you bought it?
Can you see a picture if you use a torchlight over the panel?
A faint dark picture could be a defective LCD cable, inverter/LED card or a defective LCD backlight. Since you see a picture I would rule out a motherboard fuse problem.

IPhone is at a grey screen after flashing for a few minutes

My iPhone is at a grey screen after flashing at the same screen for a couple of minutes.
I can turn my screen on and off, phone functions and siri both work. The screen is just grey, no error messages or anything.
This happened after I was trying to connect to a wifi hotspot and I was typing something into a field when it froze, flashed for a few minutes, and stayed on a grey screen. This has been going on for about an hour and a half.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your iPhone is flashing with a grey screen, I would suggest resetting the device and resetting the network settings. If that does not resolve the issue, then you may need to back up to iCloud and restore it.

[SOLVED] Black screen after GRUB

Hello everyone
I was setting up a machine with E17 and was trying various DM's since none seemed to work. After attempting to use LightDM, I get a black screen after GRUB. I was trying to read the various logs at /var/log/ but I cannot understand them properly. I tried reinstalling entrance and LightDM with no luck. I even tried editing grub's entry appending '1' or 's' and still no dice. Any help would be appreciated.

I missed something important in Xorg.log. As you can see, fbdev and modesetting aren't loading as usual. I didn't check grub stuff, I don't think it's related, since loading in level 3 (text mode) I get a black screen but I can login as root and turn off the computer blindlessly.

No, I can't get it to work changing DM's. I'm not sure if I pacman -Syu before changing DM's another time. Maybe it wasn't LightDM's fault afterall.

Help!! Extremely Dim Screen!

Recently, when I turn on my Mac, the screen goes on for maybe 1-2 seconds then goes extremely dim, almost off, I can only just barely see it, is there a way I can fix this, it just happened one night for no apperent reason, any suggestions, Thanks!!!

I'm having a similar problem on my PB G4 15". The screen is incredibly dim (I can faintly make out images but not enough to work on it -- I've had to use another machine for this post).
However, what I don't get is this: if I restart the PB, I get the greeting sign, and my destop picture comes up, and then before my desktop files appear, the screen goes dim.
Previously, I had done the infamous Icelandic "hinge repair" that I read about here, but the epoxy'd screen never really was perfect after that. And I'm using a big binder clip to hold the screen and hinge together. That's worked for over a year.
I can only use A/C power because my machine dies straightaway using its battery.
I hope this isn't too much of a pain to repair, could it be the inverter board as other similar problems that are alike would seem to suggest?
I was hoping not to have to buy another laptop for a year or two or even three, but I console myself with the fact that the new MacBook is "only" US$1000, even if the screen is only 13"
Any insight into the "dim screen problem" would be much appreciated.

U need to active the tab you want to show:
So you should set the ok_code (of the tab) value to field ACTIVETAB
<TABSTRIP>-activetab = <OK_CODE>.
And transfer the value of subscreen number to the subscreen area:
CALL SUBSCREEN SUBSCREEN1
             INCLUDING G_CTRL_TABSTRIP-PROG
                       G_CTRL_TABSTRIP-SUBSCREEN.

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
I have tried these:
1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
Thoughts and suggestions?

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system not booting in your Lenovo G560 laptop.
As you have mentioned that the system not booting, please try to remove the RAM and turn on the system and check if you can hear any beep sound. Also try to clean the RAM slots and check for the issue.
Click here for the steps to remove the RAM and refer page number 40.

Strange pop-up on screen after reboot in OSX Mavericks

I´m getting this popup on my screen after i restart the computer asking me to enter my password. It says "client wants to make changes. Enter your password to allow this." Does anyone know what this means? Is it safe? Is it apple?
I have a norwegian version of Mavericks so jo won´t understand the text, but the textbox looks like this (i´ve changed my name to XXXXX ) :
I would really appreciate some help with this. I have checked if there is some programs running with cmd+alt+esc, but it´s not.

****. I entered my password and now i can´t remember the security questions on appleid.apple.com to reset mye password. And i typed in wrong answers to many times so it´s blocked for 8 hours. And i can send a mail to my alternate adress but the adress is hidden. say my adress is [email protected] it now says i******@email.com in the field for sending the email. Like somebody changed it. Because when i try to send the email with the password reset it dosen´t come. Other emails from apple comes right away when i click...

Blank screen after poweroff

First of all, sorry for my language. I'm french (I've posted my problem on the french forum here but it hasn't been solved yet.
THE PROBLEM :
When I shutdown my desktop computer using any command ('shutdown -h now' 'halt' of using the syslinux poweroff, and even when I try to suspend with 'pm-suspend'), I have a blank screen when I try to turn the PC on. And then the screen says "no signal". Even the BIOS doesn't appear.
I have to use the RESET button of my tower to see the BIOS appear
First I didn't have the problem with the command 'reboot', but it's the same now (since I changed my CMOS battery).
And since that I have also to RESET several times to get the BIOS.
MY CONFIG :
- kernel : 3.14.2-1-ARCH
- openbox + slim
- bootloader syslinux
- graphic card : NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS + current Nvidia driver (my card is not recognized by 'nouveau')
- motherboard : ASUSTeK P5PL2-E
- BIOS version : 0904 (up to date stable version)
- CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
- Screen : ACER G246HL (DVI connected)
WHAT I'VE TRIED SO FAR :
- unplug the computer, wait, plug it.
- reinstall the packages : nvidia nvidia-utils nvidia-libgl xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-server-utils
- boot on the arch's liveUSB and shutdown from there >> same problem
- boot with the kernel options 'noacpi noapic nolapic'
- desactivate the QuickBoot option on the BIOS (it seemed to work but finally not)
- use the LTS kernel
- open the computer and clean everything inside, check that everything is OK, even change the CMOS battery
- run memetest86+ >> no error
- check the CPU temperature

I have also gotten the blank, black screen, after using the Recovery CD's from HP on THREE different computers, please, if anyone knows how to help, HELP. I get nothing, tried hard off, new memory, new hard drives, no battery, battery, new battery, new a/c adapter, etc. Only one is still under warrenty, a HDX-16t, the other two, an HDX 16 and a Pavilion -1135nr
