T400 expresscard issue

I'm running Win7 64bit and using a 34mm eSata slim expresscard (very nice) from OWC.  Here's the problem, it didn't take long for me to figure out why my T400 was freezing up occasionally.  I suspected that it was the express card but wasn't too sure.  But everytime I leave the expresscard out of the laptop, my system is fine.
Turns out, the JMicron driver seems to be the culprit causing some systems to freeze up.  I have downloaded the latest driver but it still freezes up.
Has anyone else run into this issue and if so, is there a fix?
Thank you all!

Sounds like it could be an issue with that card, is it generic? Have you tried using a quality card such as this StarTech eSATA III card?

  • T400 LCD dim issue - Need help!!

I'm having a LCD dim issue with a T400. Have changed the LCD panel, LCD cable and systemboard but still having same issue. If i removed the lcd card, then the display is working fine. I've tested the lcd card in another working unit and it's working as well (means the lcd card is working). I use a working lcd card and plug into this T400 but LCD still dim.
I've try to switch the problematic lcd cable and lcd panel to a working systemboard and it kills the systemboard. Have try to switch a few things but still unable to find the root cause. Urgently need help on this. Any advice will be appreciated.

    hey bhoh
i suggest uninstalling your current graphic card driver, let windows install its own generic drivers and see if that makes any difference

  • T400 stuck key issue

I bought my T400 2764-CTO in last December, and started using it on mini dock without any problem. Until recently, it starts to show stuck key issue randomly (not always failure) both at boot up or under Windows Vista.
    ERROR
    0210 Stuck Key FF
    Press <F1> to SetUp
Note: the stuck key keeps changing, sometimes 13, sometimes 1F, sometimes other key.
I opened the laptop, and checked the connection of the keyboard but couldn't locate any problem there. Can this be a keyboard issue? Or even a motherboard issue?
Can Lenovo swap a new keyboard for me? If so, what do I need to do then?
    Thanks!
    Best Regards

You can call Lenovo service, and log a service call, they will make the necessary arrangements. If you are not confident with bios update then please don't do it youself, and let the warranty department do it for you, as any mistakes can make your laptop useless and you will be paying couple hundreds of euros to get the motherboard replaced.

  • VLC audio problems on T400 - DPC Latency Issue?

    Hi Folks,
When I try to use VLC player to play any video on my T400, I get audio stutters and other strange effects.  I'm wondering if it might have to do with all the audio DPC Latency issues this model has had.  Does anyone else have these issues?  Windows media player seems to work just fine, by the way.  DPC Latency is high when either program is playing, but remains high when VLC has paused playback (whereas windows media player doesn't induce high DPC Latency when paused).
I've tried tweaking the buffer of VLC player, and a million other things, but nothing seems to help.  Hence my suspicion of DPC Latency issues.
    Thanks,
    Allie

  • T400 build quality issue

Here it goes, I purchased my Lenovo T400 less than a month ago and have noticed the following defects
    - Bottom of the screen basel there is a 2-3mm gap between the LCD and the plactic basel which is about 4 cm long
Dust started collecing not to mention there is a pieace of metal is showing as well.
    - Base basel where the power botton is located along with volume bottons looks like it's buldged up, most likely
due to its size, meaning it's slightly too big.
    - Keyboard, the left side sits higher than the right side not to mention when I type on it the whole left side seems to sink/move
So, with the laptop being less than 30 days old I called lenovo and opened up a service call. The rep was very polite and
recorded all my complaints. I was also told that he will order new parts and ship me an empty box so that I can ship it to
lenovo to repairs. Since then I've been getting phone calls everyday from lenovo rep asking additional question, the same questions everytime he called, to describe the defects. Finally, I got a phone call today from the same rep stating that
lenovo will not repair my laptop as it's too new for it to be a wear and tear issue!!!
I must say, this is my first and last purchase of the lenovo laptop and I will make an attempt to return it and get my money back.
    So much for "best" support..

welcome to the club. There are a few of us in here with that. Though the 3G had the same problem but I never realy had that issue. It seems more apparent on the 3GS. I went through 5 already cause of different issues and all of them had this problem...Apple says as long as its in specifications functionaly it dont qualify for a replacement.

  • T400 Streaming Media Issue

Hey. I recently got a Lenovo T400 (type 2764, sn xxxxx) and after a few months of everything working fine the streaming media stopped working. The problem started soon after I got the machine back from Lenovo after sending it in to repair the integrated camera. My T400 can pick up other system's media servers but other systems can not pick up my computer. Re-imaging my hard drive seems to fix the problem, but only temporarily. A day or two after re-imaging, the problem pops back up. Anyone else had this problem or have an idea how to fix it?  Is there some kind of updating issue?  Identical machines from my office that we ordered at the same time don't seem to have this problem.
    moderator note: serial number deleted

Also before anyone asks we are using RTMP and the file type is F4V not FLV.

  • T400 System board issues

Has anyone else been having issue with the T400 and the System Board.  I have had 5 now that stop booting.  All you get is the power light, battery light and the plug light when plugged in.  Hit the power and nothing comes up.  I tried removing the battery and same thing minus the battery light.

I am also facing the same problem. Looks like Lenovo is loosing it credibility and integrity, it previous used to have, especially for Thinkpads.
I am already living with WiFi problem for my T400. Now this System board issue. Really tech support also not good at all.

  • T400s Screen Color Issue

Anyone have a color-mismatch issue?  T400s screen is at factory default but the colors are definitely different from desktop screen rendering.  Have tested photographs on different screens and the T400s is much cooler (less red).  Also, hypertext links are a lighter blue on the T400s vs. more blue/purple on the desktop monitor.  This has been tested on a Samsung desktop monitor, a MacPro laptop, a Dell desktop monitor.  All are the same except for the T400s.
    Any comments are appreciated!

    Hi sdreyer,
    Welcome to the Lenovo forum!
Color perception is a fascinating subject, you can find more about it and monitor calibration at this post and the links therein.

  • T400 & W500 HSDPA Issues

We have a number of T400 and W500 laptops with built in HSDPA. We have been using Orange SIMs from the start with no issues. However over the past fortnight a number of machines have refused to connect via HSDPA.
There is no issue with the SIM as it works in X61 machines and in the supplied dongle.

If the total battery capacity is way below what it should be, then it might be a cell failure. In that case, though, the laptop would fail outright to charge the battery for safety reasons.

  • T400 XP Explorer Issues

My new T400 is exhibiting some unusual behavior.
Windows Explorer  -> Favorites -> Organize Favorites: produces an empty dialogue window.
Windows Explorer: Launching an app by clicking on a file does not bring the application to the foreground. You have to find the app on the task bar.
I have installed QuickBooks and OpenOffice, which I have used a fair amount under XP on other systems. In the two weeks that I've had this system, both apps have experienced abnormal terminations in normal operations.
On receiving the machine, I performed all the windows updates, installed McAfee, OpenOffice, QuickBooks, Quicken, Firefox and Thunderbird.
Has anyone else seen these sorts of problems? Any general recommendations?
I have XP media from work, so I could probably do a reinstall of XP if I can collect all the drivers. Of course I'll lose IBM Record Now.

If you Google this issue you will find others with this problem.  It has nothing to do with the T400.  I don't know the solution, but one of my Dell desktops has the problem and the other does not.  The one with the problem is running XP Pro SP3 and has IE 8, if that has anything to do with the problem.  The Dell without the problem is running XP Home SP2 and IE 6.

  • T400 and VGA issues

I am pretty certain that my VGA output was working fine until today.  I don't use the external display that often so it's hard to say exactly when the issue started.
The external display shows fine during bootup and the animated Windows logo (this is on Windows 7 btw).  But when the login screen comes up, the screen looks washed out like an overexposed picture with very low color.
The only thing I installed recently is TurboTax 2009.  Could a software like that cause VGA issues?
Also an interesting I noticed was right when Windows is shutting down (the "shutting down" message comes up), the VGA display looks normal without any issues.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

    Hi jbum,
Thank you for posting that you were able fix your problem by not starting igfxpers.exe. I googled a bit about that one yesterday and didn't come away with a clear idea of all that it does. Apparently one thing it does is to store your favored screen resolution.
Many recommend not starting the service, for example:
    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1079178
I found only one person with a UMPC who said the service helped him:
    http://www.eeaston.com/using-my-umpc/igfxpers-really-IS-required-on-my-UMPC
But anyway, I think you are safe leaving it off, especially since it seems to have solved your problem with washed-out video.
Your DVI issue interests me -- let's discuss it on the other thread.

  • T400 Ultrabay Battery Issue

I just ordered and received a new Lenovo-branded Ultrabay slide-in battery for a T400.  It fits perfectly (appears to) but shows an error in the battery display and cannot even read the part number.
What came out was an FRU 42T4679  (10.8V, 2.7AH, 30WH).
    What I received was an FRU 51J0508 (10.8V, 2.9AH, 32WH).
Does anyone know if this is likely just a bad battery, or an incompatible battery?
    Thank you!
    Mark

not sure what is the battery cell manufacturer? check in your Thinkvantage Power Manager.

  • T400 strange power issue

I have a strange intermitent problem with my T400.
Usually, I put the machine into hibernate at night. I then usually unplug the device and all the lights go out.
Twice now, after doing the above, I have returned in the morning to find the battery light blinking orange - i.e., the battery has been nearly entirely drained. Opening the computer, the screen is clearly on, but black, and I can only get things going again by first holding down the power button to completely shut off the system (but why is it even on?), and then restarting. The battery is indeed entirely drained, but recharges normally. In "restarting", the computer behaves as if comming out of hibernate.
I have also noticed that on both occasions when this has occured, upon resuming I get a message from Windows that "the computer has been restarted and windows updates have been installed" (its set to automatic updates).
Does anyone have any idea whats going on? Is the automatic updates function somehow interferring with the hibernate causing the system to restart on its own and then get "frozen" in a power-draining state?

Yes - you have already identified the culprit!  Task Scheduler has the ability to wake the computer from hybernation.
Go to control panel and change the automatic update setting so that the files are downloaded, but not installed automatically. By default Windows installs updates at 3:00am, or at the next shutdown after the scheduled install.  If you change it to download and notify you, you will get a pop-up telling you that there are updates to be installed.
I travel with my thinkpad, so I have mine set to only notify me of updates, and not to download or install automatically.  This keeps me from getting my cellular connection bogged down with automatic downloads.
Just remember, when you see the icon, do the installations at some point!  Don't let them pile up.

  • T400 WWAN Adapter Issue

I've successfully utilized WWAN capability on a T400 for a long time. So, now it's not working all of a sudden??? Device Manager says "Device Working Properly", radio is visible along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Just doesn't show Broadband connections available at all??? I've tried disable/enable thing. Prior to this problem, i completely removed battery, since it's worn out. Can that affect behavior of WWAN adapter??? Has anyone encountered similar thing??

Open command prompt window and type in the following string:
    netsh mbn sh read int=*
...copy and past output here (replace the values with ***, for instance, for your privacy, but confirm if they persist)
    And another one command:
    netsh mbn sh rad int=*

  • T400 4500mhd video issue

    Hi
I have a Lenovo T400 with 4500mhd graphics, 4 GB RAM with Windows 7 x64. When playing video e.g. xvid, it’s pixelated and looks generally poor. I’ve tried the same file on my old T42 and it works fine.
I’ve put the latest BIOS and video drivers from the Lenovo support but with no luck?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks Andrew

which version of the DIVX decoder are you on?
also try to play around with the Intel display tray's 3D settings to see whether it helps.
