T400 hangs after moving it
Hello,
My new Thinkpad T400 has a strange problem. When I move the notebook (for
example when transporting it, while it is running, or when I ride a train), it
often occurs that my programs begin to quit responding; starting new ones is
not possible. After a minute or two the whole system is “frozen” – only the
mouse and the ctrl+alt+del-screen work, so I have to restart the machine and
all unsaved data is lost.
Setting the sensitivity of Active Protection to low helps decreasing the rate
of this problem, but does not fix it.
I already tried reinstalling Windows which did not help.
The operating system is Vista x64 and all drivers are installed in their
current versions.
What can I do?
Thanks in advance : )
Manuel
You can have the media you are using on any drive, external or internal. If you move it from the original position, you will have to go through the reconnect process in FCE.
You should try setting the capture scratch, render files, etc. to your internal drive and see if it works then. If so, it is a problem with your external drive. For troubleshooting purposes, it would be good to have your media (JPEG photo) on your internal drive as well.
I'm not sure I believe them though about the Firewire 800 drive not being suitable for video editing... though I guess they are the experts when it comes to their drives.

ITunes hanging after moving library to wifi drive
I have MacBook Pro (bought Feb 2011, upgraded to Lion), Airport Extreme and a new external hard drive connected through Airport Extreme. Today, I moved my library to the remote drive and imported a HUGE collection into iTunes (some 25+ GB of songs). While importing 1655th song out of 4200+ songs, iTunes hanged and I had to 'force quit' the process. Since then, iTunes just keeps hanging everytime I start the program.
Connectivity to the wifi drive is not a problem, as I am sitting practically right next to it.
While trying several things, I upgraded iTunes to the latest version (10.4.1), but the issue continues.
Do I just leave the MacBook next to AE to give itunes a chance to sync the huge collection? Is the collection corrupted and needs to be made again (how do I do that)?
Please help!!
Thanks
HarmeetMove it all back to the C: drive to exactly where it was before, and follow these directions to fix it.

CPU initialization hang on bootup after moving computer
Sorry for the crossposts, but I am unsure where to put this.
After moving my system across country I have encountered a problem. When I boot up my K7N2-L with 2200 and MSI GF4 4200, the system hangs on "processor initialization," as indicated by the D-bracket LED display. Removing *just the VGA card remedies this problem and the system moves to boot up properly.
What could be the cause of this problem? The only way I can see the VGA card affecting the CPU is by insufficient power or a short in the system. Would this be a mobo problem, a CPU problem, a PSU problem or a VGA problem? the system had worked fine months before I moved it.
Any help is appreciated.
NathanI have already pulled everything out and put everything back. That is how I found out it works without the video card- process of elimination. So, when I have everything BUT the video card in there, it works. When I have the video card in there, it doesn't.
How do I know it is the video card causing the problem and not the video card interface, or the PSU or some power related issue within the system?
Any other ideas? I've already cleared the CMOS and I have not been able to test the system with other components.

T400 hangs on "windows is shutting down"
After my latest ThinkVantage update my T400 hangs when shutting down. This occurs on "shutdown" or "restart". UPHClean doesn't fix the problem. Thoroygh scanning shows system is clean. I'm running XP3, up to date. The only way I can shut down is with the power button. Any idea whats going on?
Thanks,
MarkI'm not laptop user but it comes on my desktop the same. I install "User Profile Hive Cleanup Service" application that released from Microsoft. The problem was solved on my desktop for your information.

Mail hangs after a few seconds
Just this evening, about an hour after I downloaded the MobileMe update, my Mail app started hanging after about 4 seconds. Totally unresponsive, beachball of doom etc requiring a force quit. I've tried most of the suggestions I can find here (deleting To-do lists, turning off synching, moving plists, repairing drives etc) but nothing seems to work.
Logic points to the MobileMe update (I have a new 3G iPhone that seems to be working and synching ok), but I'm kind of stuck with no mail on my main machine and was wondering if there was anything else I could do rather than sit in and wait for an Apple update (providing there will be one).
Many thanks in advance (and apologies if I've pasted the wrong part of the report here -I had no idea what to post)

You seem to have httpmail running as a Bundle for Mail; disable it and then try starting Mail again to see if that resolves the problem. If so, that means you'll have to delete it, since it is conflicting with Mail and will cause it to hang or crash.

Pixelbender 2.5 always hangs after some time
When I'm using Pixelbender 2.5, after 3 or 4 re-builds and moving the slider several times, the PixelBender just hangs (doesn't respond anymore).
Before it hangs, everything behaves normal as expected.
This doesn't happen with Pixelbender 2.x.
All Pixelbender Plugins in Photoshop, After Effects or applied as Flash Shaders work fine, though. It seems to be the PixelBender 2.5 application itself.
I don't know if this is because of the code I've written, but I can compile and restart it with 2.1 as long as I want, but on 2.5 it hangs after 3 or 4 restarts.
I'm using:
Win7, 64Bits, with 4GB RAM, 2.5 GHz Core Duo T9300,
nVidia 8600M GT with 512MB RAM
I just hope that the next release will be more stable, because I like the new features in 2.5. (like the image inputs don't get swapped like in 2.1)We haven’t managed to repro this problem yet – we’ve run it on a couple of different machines using 2.5 and tested it repeatedly and can’t get it to fail. So, we have some more questions:
* What mode are you running in? GPU,CPU or Flash?
* If GPU, do you only see this hang in GPU mode, or can you reproduce it in CPU or Flash mode?
* If GPU, what is the date and version number of the NVIDIA GPU driver you is using? (and is it up to date – new drivers can be downloaded here http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us)
* When you hit "Build and Run" are you changing anything? (e.g. editing the filter code, changing modes, changing images etc.)
* Can you make the images you’re using available to us?
Thanks

Win XP Hangs after Splash Screen (PointSec Loaded)
I have a lenovo t400 laptop, that has Pointsec encryption (6.1.3) ,and WinXP loaded on it.
I ran the Think Vantage Lenovo update tool which downloaded and installed a number of updates - as I hadn't run it for ages.
Now when I try to start the computer it hangs after the XP splash screen is displayed. The screen simply goes black.
I have tried the various Safe Mode options (include VGA Mode, and start with last successful configuration) without luck. They also fail to boot.
The flow is:
Power On, PointSec Authentication Screen, Win XP Splash screen, then a black screen
I have successfully got into the system using UBCD4Win with the pointsec plugin loaded, this loads a WinPE type environment via a USB stick and allows me to access the C: drive unencrypted (as I have authenticated with Pointsec).
I'm really stuck for ideas as to which of the update is causing the problem, and would love to hear some suggestions on how to fix this situation.
Additional Info:
The last few lines in ntbtlog.txt is:
Did not load driver Direct Parallel
Did not load driver SM bios service
Did not load driver SM bus service
Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\Cdfs.SYS
Looking in:
c:\Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$
it looks like Service Pack 3 has been installed:
The file: spuninst\spuninst,inf shows:
NtServicePackVersionText = "Service Pack 3"
NtServicePackPreviousVersionText = "Service Pack 2"
Solved!
Go to Solution.Fixed!!!
The problem was the lenovo updates (most likely culprit being the video driver I presume).
Using UBCD4Win with the pointsec plugin I was able to
* get access to the decrypted c: drive
* Manually rolled back the updates to c:\windows\system32 and c:\windows\system32\drivers
Original files were found in places like: c:\windows\system32\reinstallbackups\008\DriverFiles
* Finally I had to roll back the registry updates that the updates did. UBCD4Win provides a tool to do this: Registry Restore Wizard. It basically just looks in the System Restore Directory c:\System Volume Information and lists all the available Restore Points (thankfully the Lenovo updates mark a restore point before they run). You can also do this manually using the following instructions:
http://hypography.com/forums/tutorials-and-how-tos/17193-xp-recovery-instructions-for-ubcd4win.html
This done the system booted successfully.
I most definitely will be staying clear of pressing the big blue button from now on. That was a real nightmare to fix. -
Stuck in "loop" or "hang" after login
Running a MacBook Pro with 10.5.4 and Filevault on (company policy, so turning it off isn't an option). Sometimes after I start up the computer I will get to the logon screen enter my password and the computer will hang. The background doesn't change to my user backgrounds and I need to do a hard reset.
I've tried disk repair, permissions repair, running fsck -fy in single user mode, amongst other things. Some other suggestions, like deleting preferences files don't work because FileVault is enabled.
Thoughts on other things to try?I just had this problem and couldn't find a solution online, so for the record (I'm presuming it's too late for you) here is what worked for me.
First the symptom: upon booting I could get to the login screen with no issues. I could login to accounts that didn't have filevault enabled, but not the account with it (it would hang after login, never changing to my desktop background).
First workaround: Logged in as root and manually opened the username.sparsebundle file (under Users/.username), using the FileVault password. At this point I could see that all the files were intact, and access them. Then I got a warning from Sophos Antivirus that a file needed to be moved to the infected folder and I had to enter a password for it. After that, login worked fine. But after the next logout I had the same problem.
Final workaround: Turning off Sophos (not just the moving of files but also active scanning) solved the problem. Best guess is that Sophos is trying to move files before login and doesn't have the permission to move them to the right place but you can't see that it's needing that feedback so it just stalls indefinitely.
I note that another user with this problem also had Sophos installed (see topic "Can't login after enabling FileVault"). I only had the problem after transferring a bunch of old email to my machine (with windows viruses in some of the attachments). Of course these caused my mac no threat, but this combined with the need for a password for file movement triggered the weird behavior. -
My T400 Hangs a the boot stage
Hello,
does anyone had seing this problem. my t400 hangs and dysplayed the first lenovo Logo screen...No possibility to press F1 or F12 to select boot order. I had replaced all 4 gb memories but the issues persist. I had been told that this could be system board.
Thank you if you have a solution for my case
All the BestHere is a sequence that might help fix delays / hangs at BIOS POST:
EDIT: Mark_Lenovo recommends skipping the gray steps 3-5 when you first try this sequence -- they may not be necessary. If you then decide to try removing the CMOS battery, please first make sure that there are no administrative passwords set on your ThinkPad.
Remove AC power.
Remove main battery, and UltraBay battery if any.
Remove CMOS backup (button cell) battery. The Hardware Maintenance Manual tells you how. You need to remove the palmrest to get to the battery. It's not hard, but if you're technophobic get somebody to help you.
Touch a metal screwdriver blade or similar to both of the pins that the CMOS backup battery plugs into for 10s. The idea is to short them together temporarily.
Replace CMOS backup battery and palm rest but NOT the other battery(ies) or AC yet.
Press the silver power button and hold it for 10s. Release it for a couple of seconds, then repeat this step 2 more times.
Re-install main battery(ies) and plug in the AC.
Boot and cross fingers!
Press F1 at boot to get to BIOS Setup and configure it the way you like (your settings were lost when you removed the CMOS backup battery.)
After things are working properly (we hope!) update to the latest BIOS. Burn the DOS BIOS update CD and update it this way, do NOT update BIOS from within Windows.
Please report back if the above works for you. The above sequence does the most thorough reset of your machine, it's possible that not every step is necessary. If you're squeamish about opening your ThinkPad and don't have someone to help you, you could try skipping steps 3 - 5.
Good luck!

I think what is happening is that the kernel does not have the drivers for the IDE controller on the board for the CLE266/VT8235. Does this seem accurrate? And if so, how can I verify the current kernel config, then compile a kernel with everything else Arch needs to boot properly? I am familiar with the old means of setting up a kernel using the 'make menuconfig; make; make modules_install' etc method.
Thanks for the help in advance!Hi, not sure if this is still causing you an issue, but I just ran into the same problem.
For me, I have a Sharp PC=MM1110 which has no cd drive and doesn't like to boot from USB. To get Arch installed on it, I had to attach it to another PC (via it's docking cradle, which lets it show up as a USB hard drive), then boot the other PC from an Arch install cd and select the USB hdd for all of the partitioning etc.
When I rebooted after the installation, the Sharp wouldn't boot.
First, I had to edit the grub menu entry to point to (hd0,0), at which point I got the error listed in the first post... Failed to parse block device id's.
If i booted into fallback mode, it booted without a problem.
For me, the solution to finally get it working was to boot into fallback mode, remount the filesystem as r/w, and run mkinitcpio -g filename to rebuild the kernel. Once completed all I had to do was point grub to the new kernel image and it booted ok.
Hope this is useful to someone -

Wrong reply-to address sent from iPhone mail after moving to iCloud
I had this strange experience that shortly after moving to iCloud, one of my email accounts got mixed up with the reply to address.
I use both accounts:
- [email protected]
- [email protected]
When I reply to a message received in my xs4all account and send a reply (visually is in the mail the field From: [email protected]), the receiver will get a mail with reply address [email protected]
So I noticed that all replies were sent to my gmail account.
Has anyone else the same?Try SETTINGS, ICLOUD, click ACCOUNT field and scroll down to MAIL. Click on MAIL field. Here you can click on EMAIL field and a new screen of choices for default account comes up. Choose your default account here. Go back a page and you see ALLOW SENDING FROM and a list of allowed addresses to pick. Choose all of the ones you'd like to be able to use. HOPE THAT HELPS YOU. Click DONE when you finish. Tami
