T400: How to disable the Intel Management Engine Bios Extension?

The first thing my T400 (type 6474-BD2) does at boot up is to initialize the Intel Management Engine Bios Extension.
This takes about 2 minutes before the operating system boots.
Do I really need this?
Is there a way to switch this off?
Thanks,
Arjen

If i'm right, it is Intel AMT - in the BIOS under "Config" - "Intel (R) AMT"

Use M-Flash with ME the MSI recommended way, but one that seems prone to bricking one of your bios's
tried reinstalling the driver... no go

    im running win7 64
i installed it from this link
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/H77MA-G43.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2064
which says it supports the following OS
    Win8 32, Win8 64, Win7 64, Win7 32, Vista 64, Vista 32, XP 64, XP 32
    im at a loss :S

  • Z68A-GD65 G3 & Intel Management Engine Driver

I've recently uninstalled the ClickbiosII and Control Center, I also uninstalled the "Intel Management Engine Driver" I thought this was only required for Control Center to communicate with the board to make changes to cpu clock/multiplier in the OS, which I do in bios anyway, but since I no longer use Control Center I should no longer need the "Intel Management Engine Driver" or?
Everything still works fine and I can still monitor voltages and temperatures.
But just incase I decided to look for an updated version of the driver, where it seems that the driver on the MSI site is a few revisions behind the ones on Intels site.
    On MSI:
Intel Management Engine Driver, Version: 7.0.0.1144, 2012-03-13
    Intel Site:
Intel Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards , Version: 7.1.40.1161, 04/16/2012
    Chipsets:
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68BC
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
But upon closer examination I also see drivers for 6 & 7 series boards:
    There is also:
Intel® ME: Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 & 7 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards, Version: 8.0.10.1464, Date: 04/19/2012
Which no longer has support for the Z68, however the previous version 8.x.x.xxxx series does.
Intel® ME: Management Engine Driver for Intel 6 & 7 Series Chipset-Based Desktop Boards
    , Version: 8.0.4.1441, Date: 03/23/2012
Which also still supports the following chipsets:
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68BC
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68DB
    Intel® Desktop Board DZ68ZV
Now this driver is "older" than the 7.1.40.1161 driver but has a higher version #, so should I go after version # or the date, which ones would you use, or are already using?

Ok, I reinstalled the drivers again, seems sandybridge needs it to function properly, at least what people are saying on various forums.

  • Intel Management Engine Driver

Is there a connection between ME in the BIOS and the Intel Management Engine Driver that can be downloaded from the motherboard product page?
What I mean is if I install the downloadable driver from the motherboard page, does this over write something that the ME applied from a BIOS update does or vice versa if I updated my BIOS after first installing the driver from the motherboard page?
Do they need to match as the downloadable driver from the motherboard page is a lower version number than the one contained in the latest beta BIOS for the Z77A-GD65?
What does enabling the ME option in the BIOS do?

I actually download my ME from Intel directly as they have a newer version than the MSI website. They don't have to match, and the one for inside windows should be updated when possible like other drivers.

I'm trying to figure out if I can install the Intel Management Engine Driver 7.1.52.1176. You have to have ME 7.1 firmware for that according to my MB download page*.
I've currently got ME driver 7.0.0.1144. Doesn't that suggest I have Intel ME 7.0 firmware as well?

no, ME driver versions are different the ME firmware versions, but need to be the same main base, ie 7.xx

  • Z87 gd65 Intel Management Engine Driver fails to install.

The Intel Management Engine Driver from the MSI z87-gd65 website did not install correctly.
I was updating some drivers here and there and noticed a newer version of the MEI had been released.  The installation procedure came back with a nasty error, and a pesky exclamation point showed up in my device manager.  I was able to install the newest version (10.0.0.1204) by googling for Management Engine Interface and downloading directly from microsoft, but I would have preferred to use the file on the MSI site, as I believe the one I used was intended for another motherboard.
This is the driver I ended up installing, which worked correctly.
Was anyone else having problems updating the management engine driver?
    z87-gd65
    4770k (stock)
    16g ddr3
    250gb ssd

There is nothing wrong with downloading from Intel's page. It's them providing the driver anyway, and MSI just used it on their product page to make it easier to find; there's no specific driver of Intel ME for specific motherboard or setup. So you're fine.

  • Intel Management Engine Interface necessary ?

    Please,
    For P67A-GD55 Rev B3, with I7 2600K (Sandy Bridge)
Is the installation of Intel Mangement Engine Interface driver necessary ?
If Yes, What is the preferable version ? 7 or 8 ?
Is it advised to install the latest Intel version or the version provided by MSI ?
    Thank you for your responses.

Yes, the Intel Management Engine is an integral part of the 6 series chipset. The driver is important. If running a Sandy Bridge CPU, then it must be the 7 version unless the UEFI/BIOS has been updated to a version that supports Ivy Bridge CPU's. The ones from MSI are pretested on your mainboard, so the decision is yours to use newer versions from Intel or not.
