T400 Intel Graphics occasional display flicker

Hi, I bought a ThinkPad T400 and I think it is a great machine. However, in rare occasions the display flickers during less than a second. In these cases, When I start typing on the laptop the screen flickers with heavy keystrokes, but it only happened three times in the 3 weeks I had this machine so far.
The problem could happen when under some load, but I do a lot on my ThinkPad so it doesn't appear to be directly related to me working on it. I tried shaking it to see if it could be something lose inside, but I can't reproduce the problem at will.
This is not anoying at all because its not frecuent but, should I worry? This laptop is still under warrany as far as I know.

Try setting to 60Hz when on battery. Or if it is at 60Hz try changing to Hz. You can also try to avoid florescent lights when possible.

  • Intel Graphics Accelerator Display Driver for Windows 10 - L505-S5984

Mozilla Firefox will not stay, or open up, on my computer, AFTER the Windows 10 upgrade.  An error message, constantly, appears, after my computer screen keep blinking to a black screen, before a BLANK box stay on the black screen ... and FREEZES everything.  The computer curser, also, disappears.  Obviously, this driver was not updated dring the upgrading. "Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Driver for Windows 7(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."  Is there a fix, or Windows 10 driver update, for this?

MissBliss, I just ended up un-installing it, and re-installing it, again; which I will tell you is difficult to get done.  It kept telling me that I already have the most recent one ... where it was installed/updated when my computer was updated to Windows 10.  I, actually, played around with it, for like 2 days, trying to make it happen.  Anyway, only some things seems to be working, now.  I still can't try to open Firefox; without that black/blue screen flashing, and, then, finally, freezing ... my computer crashing.  I, finally, just un-installed Mozilla Firefox on my computer that this keeps happening on.  I still want to return to Windows Home Premium; everything was working so beautifully, when I had it.  Personally, I wished that I have never reserved the Windows 10 app.  They made it sound so great, when promoting it.  I, now, understand that saying 'BEWARE of fox in sheep clothing,' more.  There seems to be NO help from Microsoft; and no willingness to, even, help/solve, by Microsoft.  I will admit that two of my computers that were upgraded seems to be doing okay ... although, the Windows 10 upgrade, did, make ALL but one printer, connected to them, AND the one that I am having problems with, inoperable.  My computers do not, even, recognize them, or their drivers, as being installed.  Everything as working just fine, before Windows 10 came along.  So, this makes me angry, also.  Good Luck with finding/getting an answer, THAT WORKS!  I hope that you have more success, than I did.  Windows 10 is becoming more and more of a disappointment.

  • X11 and Intel graphics – occasional freeze with recent drivers.

    Hi guys,
Has anyone else experienced a noticeable freeze (lasting between a fraction of a second to several seconds) in X11 with xf86-video-intel on an up-to-date Arch install? This seems more noticeable on less-powerful hardware, particularly my Netbook!
The multi-system emulator Retroarch really used to perform well (i.e. sustained smooth scrolling) under Arch, but now seems to lock up for a moment every 10-20 seconds. This only happens in full-screen mode with vsync enabled and it is NOT the emulator that is at fault. I have an older Arch install on a USB stick that works fine with the current build of Retroarch. Very strange indeed.
I know there isn't a lot of information here in terms of package versions, but I wanted to put the feelers out before I start churning through older versions of xf86-video-intel and X11 packages to narrow down the point at which this started.

This behaviour was introduced in xf86-video-intel-2.99.912-1. With the previous package - xf86-video-intel-2.99.911-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz - this did not occur.
EDIT: could this be related? :

  • X200 Intel graphics update today hosed external display

I'm running Windows 7 on my X200. So far its worked well. Today, however, TVSU (v4.0) installed an update to the Intel graphics driver (GM45 display driver, 32 bit, v8.15.10.1968) and now my external monitor is virtually useless. It's a Samsung 181T (1280x1024) and it was connected and in use at the time of the installation. After rebooting the monitor is so dark it's unreadable.
This is disappointing. I use my unit docked in an Ultrabase connected to a monitor and I need this to work properly.
It looks as if the system now detects the external monitor as having a resolution of 1280x800, instead of 1280x1024.

As an update to the previous message: the monitor was previously detected and workd as a Generic PnP monitor. I've now dug out an old CD and installed the driver for it. The monitor is now correctly listed by make and model and the screen resolution defaults correctly, but at no resolution is the problem of the horrible display any better, neither using the Ultrabase nor the VGA output on the side.
    My external display is unusable.
I would like to roll back this update but the option to do so isn't offered.
So far all of my TVSU updates have been flawless. This is really no fun at all.
it seems I am not alone: http://communities.intel.com/message/73840
i don't understand the fix referred to at the end of that thread:
go into BIOS and disable the Intel VT-d
I do not see an option to disable anything in the BIOS relevant to the display.
    Help please!

  • Windows 7 Control Panel Display and Intel Graphics Media Control Panel Constantly

    I have a Nvidia NVS 5200 M running with Intel 4000 and Windows 7 on a Lenovo T430S.
Whenever I load the Control Panel -> Display settings, I can see options just fine, but I click on any of the drop down menus and they appear for a second, then immediately disappear (fast enough that I can't change settings).
There's a similar problem when I look in the Intel Graphics Media Control Panel. It constantly appears to be "loading" - the mouse icon turns into a little blue circle off an on, continuously. Similar thing with the settings, too - they appear and let me change them, but immediately return to the original setting. I can change them if I act SUPER quickly to make the change then click Apply. But 99/100 I'm not fast enough.
All drivers are up to date. I have no idea what to do (reinstall or uninstall this Intel Graphics control panel? How? Or somehow change a setting on my graphics card).
    Please help!

Try uninstalling both drivers, then reinstalling them. Sometimes a clean driver update works better.

  • T530 Win 8 64 w Intel HD Graphics 4000 display 'dims'

I have a problem that is similar to others listed in the forums but the listed solutions either don't apply or don't work for me.
    Configuration:
    T530 2394CTO
    Windows 8 64 bit
    Bios G4ET96ww (2.56)
    Issue:
When the screen is largely dark, the display 'dims'. I have a dark desktop image so, for instance, if I minimize active windows, the display dims. The brightness setting is not changing so on the brightness setting it still shows full brightness. When I then switch to a mostly white window it then takes maybe 4 or 5 seconds for the white to change from off-white to bright white. As long as there is significant portion of the built-in screen that is light colored it stays that way. As soon as the majority of the screen is 'dark' it dims again.
It is not the Intel HD Graphics Drivers as suggested here.
If I check the drivers with Lenovo System Update they show as up to date. There is a more recent version on the Intel site but if I try to install it it says my computer does not meet the requirements.
It is not the adaptive brightness settings as suggested here and here.
On my version this setting does not show up in the Intel Graphics and Media control panel but there is a setting in the advanced power plan settings and I have disabled the adaptive brightness there.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Dali99GRT,
I see you have several questions today. I will do my best to help you with them.
The difference between an Integrated and a Dedicated Graphics card are as follows: (information from Top Ten Reviews)
    Integrated
An integrated graphics processing unit (GPU) doesn't use its own RAM; it utilizes the system's memory instead. So, if you have a computer with 4GB of RAM, the video card can use anywhere between one and five percent of the available memory for graphics processing. Of course, this percentage varies depending on the size of the task, especially if you're multitasking or playing a game.
    Dedicated
A dedicated, or discrete, GPU has its own independent source of video memory, leaving the RAM your system uses untouched. If you have a GeForce GTX 680M video card with 2GB of video memory, for example, that memory is completely separate from your computer's 8GB of system memory. Dedicated cards are perfect if you are into serious gaming or are a professional graphic designer.
As for the Approx. Total Memory this is the video memory of your graphics card. Your Intel Graphics card, is an integrated graphics card, that is most likely shared memory. This means some of the video memory is taken from your RAM or system memory. That being said, Windows 8.1 may not use as much of the video Graphics to run as Windows 7 does.
And the detailed information for the External VGA card, I am at a loss. Your best bet is to check out some websites like Amazon or CNET for this. I did find this information on How good are USB video cards? that may help you with your decision making.
I hope this information helps, please let me know.
Thank you and I hope you have a great day!

  • T520 with Optimus - Can't install Intel Graphics Driver in XP

    Hello,
I have T520 with Optimus FHD screen.
I have XP installed in my Ultrabay HDD.
I understand that XP doesn't support Optimus and that I must go to BIOS and choose either Discrete or Integrated.
OPTION 1 (Discrete Only)  Which someone what works:
    - So, when I have Discrete enabled in BIOS - and installed Nvidia Drivers in XP - everything works fine, expcept on 90% initial boot ups after going from Win 7 to XP (F12 Options) -  I assume the NVIDIA driver doesn't get initially recognised and the XP boots up in non native resolution.
    - It's only after I restart again and use (F12 again) to pick Ultrabay with XP, the Nvidia gets properly loaded. But this time, there is a prolong delay (60 to 90 seconds) of black screen after the WIndows XP Welcome screen before the desktop appears.
OPTION 2 (Intgrated Display Only) - Of couse, this after uninstalling NVIDIA Graphic Driver in XP
    - In BIOS, Integrated Graphic in choosen.
    - XP boots up in basic resolution.
    - I download (From Lenovo T520 Driver Page) - Intel Integrated Driver for Win XP 32.
    - When I try to install it, it says "The computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"
    - BTW, I do have all the WIndows Updates including NET 3.0 and higher
    - So then, I try to forcibly installed through Device Manager and Having DISK  - but I get Error message.
    - But somehow, it works after.
One guess I have and that confuses me is the Otimus Graphic Card - where maybe it can only work with either Optimus Drivers in Windows 7 or Nvidia Drivers in Windows XP. And that the Integrated Intel HD Graphic Drivers in for XP on Lenovo website are only meant for T520 with Intel Graphics ??!!
Or can optimus be used with intergrated intel drivers only in the XP?
If anyone can shed a small light, I would be grateful.
    Thanks You
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Glad to know everything is working for you.
You shouldn't need the discrete to watch flash videos, the Intel integrated should be able to handle that on its own.
The nVidia card shouldn't be running at all when the machine is in integrated . In fact it doesn't even run in Optimus except when it is actively being used. nVidia proved this when it was first demoing the technology. nVidia removed the nVidia chip from the motherboard of an active system that was running in Optimus using only the integrated graphics, and the computer kept running without issue and the power consumption was the same with and without the chip on the board.
If you really wanted FireFox to always run with the nVidia card (again, I don't know why you would want this) you can change the settings in the nVidia control panel to force FireFox to run with discrete.

Anyone have some advices on how to solve it, or maybe just some pointers where the problem could lie? I'm starting to run out of ideas.
EDIT: Sorry if there is already another identical thread posted somwhere, i couldn't find it.

  • I can't install Intel graphics driver for HP Pavilion G6 2240SH under Windows 8.1

    HI!
I installed Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64 to my HP Pavilion G6 2240SH laptop. I started install the drivers and I got an error message in the Intel High-Definition setup: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."
    Intel HD driver version: 10.18.10.3277
Can anybody help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Spatrik

    Hello Spatrik,
I have read your post on how your notebook computer is displaying an error message that your updated driver does not meet your system requirements, and I would be happy to assist you!
The first step I recommend is to remove the Intel graphics driver, as well as removing the chipset drivers from Programs and Features. These chipset drivers will be named Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver, and Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver. Once the drivers are removed, please restart your computer.
When the computer powers back on, please download and install the following drivers:
Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver
Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver
    Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver
Once these drivers are re-installed, please follow this document on Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8). This should help in updating your computer's Intel drivers.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

Maybe it is this bug: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154969
The decisive effect is 'Improved window management' - if this effect is enabled kwin works normally.

  • Linux 3.11 breaks triple monitor support on intel graphics

I just ran pacman -Syu, observed linux (3.10.10-1 -> 3.11.1-1), and found that I can no longer use more than 2 monitors simultaneously. When I try to configure 3 or 4 monitors with xrandr or arandr, I get an error message like "xrandr: configure crtc 2 failed".
When I boot with linux-lts 3.10.12, it works reliably again.
I have Intel HD Graphics 4000 on a i5-3320M CPU for a Thinkpad T530 with a ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3.
I have 4 monitors: internal laptop screen, DVI, DisplayPort, and a USB DisplayLink. With linux 3.10, all 4 can work simultaneously. With linux 3.11, any 2 of them can work simultaneously.
In my journalctl at boot time, I see
kernel: fbcon: inteldrmfb (fb1) is primary device
kernel: fbcon: Remapping primary device, fb1, to tty 1-63

Yesterday when I was running linux 3.10, I saw this in my journalctl at boot time with no errors:

My symptoms seem similar to Unable to configure 3 display multihead / X fails to start with 3 displays connected, although that was reported on linux 3.4.

Googling around, I found a few more people with what looks like the same problem commenting at the bottom of wrpll sharing not implemented (3x HDMI/DVI screens).
I have Intel graphics card and it supports triple head setup very well. ... I updated kernel to 3.11.1 after it appeared in Archlinux's repo and one of screens stopped working. I tried to fix it with xrandr but I got only "xrandr: Configure crtc failed" errors and these in Xorg.0.log:
I have a similar setup and am experiencing the same thing. Downgrading to 3.10 fixed the issue. I'm also happy to help fix this.
But apparently it's not the correct bug since someone said "if triple display worked and regressed in recent kernels then you have a different bug."
I think I should report this somewhere, but I'm not sure I understand exactly where (linux or xorg or arch?)

  • If your Intel graphics card has jumpy performance

Use Method 2 (obviously method 1 won't work for Arch)
I have an intel 915 GM in my thinkpad.  Video would not play smoothly.  I used Method 2 and it is much better.

Wow, ok, sounds like you are on the exact same path that I'm on. I'm a WOW player also, have had my iMac since 2008 (and play wow alot, raiding, etc) and recently it fried it's graphics card. I just replied to your thread about HDDs... so please see that response.
I'm convinced it's a heat issue and I have a feeling the latest OSX update may have changed something about the fan speed that caused extra heat to build up. Just a theory.
Anyway, your options are very limited for "fixing" a screwed up graphics card. Hopefully you have AppleCare, otherwise you're looking at ~$500 to fix this.
I'm not going to bother. Just bought a new monitor and graphics card for my 4y.o. Windows machine and will be using that from now on. I'll miss the Apple display and the operating system, but the hardware doesn't make me happy at all.
    Good luck!

  • Can i change/improve the graphic equalizer display?

    Hi,
I was just wondering if it's possible to download a better ore nicer looking graphic equlaizer display in iTunes? I'm talking about the one at the top middle of the window where you can flick between song title, tracks importing, how long left and the little jumping led's. These are the ones i want to improve if possible.
    Thanks.

    Mark,
There' a freeware iTunes visualizer called Volcano Kit that you should take a look at.
