T400 LCD discoloration

Hiyas, I have a t400 2764-CTO and Ive noticed a Pink and Yellow discoloration in the bottom right hand corner of my LCD...
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/6564/img2473r.jpg
I was wondering, what is the cause and how can I fix it? Is it a LCD problem, or a problem with the connector and if so if any of these things can be fixed with the warranty.

discolouration like this is usually the problem with the LCD itself.
This should be repairable under warranty, call 131 426 press 1 and then 3.
But you should put a 3M sticker note on the LCD telling them where to look for the problem.

Jin Li

  • T400 LCD problem

hi guys, my t400 lcd does not included led backlight, and i feel it is terribly dim compare to other notebook such as compaq v3000 and hp dv2000, what is going on? i heard someone said t400  lcd without led backlight are good too, but my lcd seems dim even though i switch to screen brightness to the max, it is not totally dark but it looks dim, can you guys help me?

also do you have the switchable graphics card version? if so switch to intel by going to the power saving mode, and see whether the internal LCD still have this problem.
But what you are describing sounds like an issue with the LCD panel itself, you can get a new LCD for around 150 to 200 dollars on the net.

  • T400 LCD TFT display specifications

    Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone would have on hand or know where to find information on the display specifications for the T400 LCD TFT display (WXGA, LED backlight).
    Specifically I'm looking for:
    Model Name/Manufacturer:
    Display area:
    Pixel Pitch:
    Synchronization
    Horizontal: (kHz)
    Vertical: (Hz)
    Display Color: (24bit, 16bit)
    Cheers,
    J

    Welcome to the forum!
Do I understand correctly that you bought a complete new LCD Assembly? Do you have proof from the seller that it was working properly before you bought it?
Can you see a picture if you use a torchlight over the panel?
A faint dark picture could be a defective LCD cable, inverter/LED card or a defective LCD backlight. Since you see a picture I would rule out a motherboard fuse problem.

  • T400 LCD dim issue - Need help!!

I'm having a LCD dim issue with a T400. Have changed the LCD panel, LCD cable and systemboard but still having same issue. If i removed the lcd card, then the display is working fine. I've tested the lcd card in another working unit and it's working as well (means the lcd card is working). I use a working lcd card and plug into this T400 but LCD still dim.
I've try to switch the problematic lcd cable and lcd panel to a working systemboard and it kills the systemboard. Have try to switch a few things but still unable to find the root cause. Urgently need help on this. Any advice will be appreciated.

    hey bhoh
i suggest uninstalling your current graphic card driver, let windows install its own generic drivers and see if that makes any difference

  • T410 display replacable with T400 LCD screen?

My friend recently had a T400 that broke, and he took apart the computer for the sake of doing so.
He knew that I had a T410, and was wondering if I might want some of the parts. I knew that my screen was probably th biggest bottleneck I could upgrade for my computer, and immediately went for his screen. The screen was a LP141WP2. After some research, I've found that it is a LCD screen, just like my thinkpad t410. However, when I searched it up, I've found that it only put into T400. So, I was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge about this matter. I don't want to go tearing up my beloved T410 if it isn't going to be replaceable.
    Thanks!

This isn't a widespread defect AFAIK.

  • T400 LCD problem possibly connected to power

I have a T400 and recently I have been getting a turqouise flashing line at the bottom of my screen (not more than 1 mm thick).  It flashes consistently once every ~4 seconds, and it only flashes when the battery is less than 100%.  When my computer is plugged into the adapter and fully charged this is not an issue.  I have tried restoring my computer to a point before this issue started, reinstalled the BIOS, reinstalled the video driver, and done a SFS scan, but at this point I am not sure what else I can do.  Any suggestions?

also do you have the switchable graphics card version? if so switch to intel by going to the power saving mode, and see whether the internal LCD still have this problem.

  • Lenovo T400 LCD Problem (shut off and bezel light abnormality )

Hello !!! This is regarding a problem with the Thinkpad T400. The problem is -- When the lid is at ~65 degrees , everything works fine. Whereas , when the lid is raised to viewing angle of arounbd 90 degrees , it goes to sleep AND , I noticed that the bezel lights (wifi , bluetooth , Cellular , Caps Lock etc...) also turn off , this normally never used to happen before. Even while the laptop is about to go to sleep, it will keep the bezel lights on till you can see the moon light. Now, even while sleeping , I can't see any moon light.  If you have a valuable input , please do share it with me. Excuse me for any spelling errors as I have to bend my head doewn to peek under the display and tyoe .. -- it's painful Thanks a Lot!!!! Matt

    Hi ChrisMatthew,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I find this issue could be with LCD cable, if you have enough knowledge on system hardware you can check with reseating on both the ends (On LCD panel & System board).
If you are want to try on that then you can also do it with the help of Hardware Maintenance Manual.
Please click here to visit the link where you can get the list of support contact numbers, select the respective region and give a call.
    Hope this helps.

  • T400 LCD Panel Dithering

I have a display issue called dithering.
I run a T400 (2768 GP6) with Windows 7 Ultimate and Lenovo drivers through System Update. It is a switchable graphics model (Intel GMA and ATI HD3400).
No matter which graphic card is set to prior, I get dithering on the LCD Display (1440x900). Most noticeable are color gradients "stepped" and "grainy" colors. It is particularly disturbing on JPG images with compression artifacts on white background, that you usually don't see, the laptop displays dotted areas. Bright areas are like "white burnt", probably because the screen is not able to display light grey.
The dithering doesn't appear on an external display, I thus conclude it is not a software or hardware issue linked to the graphic card.
The dithering appears when running a Linux LiveCD, I thus conclude it is not an issue linked to the Windows installation.
I found in the Lenovo Community an article advising to downgrade the BIOS , when the ATI HD 3400 is set to prior. No matter which BIOS I use (3.13, 3.18 or 3.25), the issue persists.
Do you believe through your experience with these models it is a software issue ? Or a hardware issue where a display replacement might solve the problem ?
    Thanks for your attention.

  • T400 LCD flatcable

    Hi,
I need a new flatcable for my T400, it goes from the mainboard to the lid/LCD.
It reads ISMP44C1338 and CD11S42T0582Z1ZEYX598185 809. I checked  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page? with my  serial number and model number (6475) . The part number 44C1338 shows up, but there are no spare parts available. I can't find this part on Ebay or the likes either, and the part number does not show a lot on Google.
I could hunt a generic T400 part, but its questionable if this would work.  See Lenovo T400 system parts: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70429
This would be 44C5362 (LCD with camera + bluetooth), but I don't know if this will work?
Can somebody tell me what part number I need?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You have a CCFL model (thanks Richk for correcting me).
(Basically in your OP you did everything right, you identified the correct LCD cable. In the part lookups you only should have looked at the column that says FRU P/N, which is the Lenovo one, there you see that the screen is 42T0583, A quick check in google or thinkwiki.org will show you the type of monitor)
So you can check in Ebay or alikes for the cable 44C5362 (maybe somebody knows more other equivalent FRU numbers). If you extend the search worldwide you will get more offers, see an example here: click me!
Another option is to look for a broken T400 with a working screen, but to be honest I don't think it will get cheaper than the auction.
    Happy hunting!

  • T400 LCD Screen Replacement -

    Hi gurus:
This concerns replacement of LCD Screen on my 14" T400 Laptop, which i'd purchased on Jan 14 2009.
    >> This is a LED backlit WXGA+ Screen.
    Usage:
    ** Very light usage; 2-3 hrs/week;
** Used this as a standby for my work laptop.
** Sparingly used for pretty much anything.
** I am very disappointed with this laptop and all through its performance and battery life has been very sluggish. (1 hr battery at the most).
    >> Runs very slow even with Vista/XP downgrade
    Problem:
    >> 1.5 yrs later, the LCD screen on this laptop doesn't turn on.
    >> I have tried the LCD Troubleshooting Guide @:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4YQHUC
** The screen is just plain dead. No startup blink. Nothing.
** Identified the following part details from my order:
    From Order Confirmation:
    44C1347
    SBB 14.1"WXGA+LEDB/L BTCAMWWAN
    FRU Part#
Mfg part#   FRU part #  Description    Serviceable?
42T0503     42T0504 14.1 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES
** What are my options in getting going with this laptop?
    >> The LCD screen conking out in this manner with minimal use is unacceptable, according to me.
    >> I had checked the price online for the Retail replacement part, and it brings it to a total of $400 approx.
Is there any extended warranty for the LCD screens? Any advise over where to buy from?
    Regards,
    Raghav

    Hi Rich:
    Thanks for your reply.
    * I tried connecting the VGA cable to my LCD Monitor/TV, but i do not see any output after selecting the Secondary Display.
    * When i boot up the Machine, the LCD does not blink/flicker e.t.c, but i can see that the regular bootup is happening as i look at the Hard Drive light and it keeps flickering.
    * How do i check the LCD sub card? I am assuming its the panel because the LED Light on top of the Screen seems to turn on.
    * Yes i have only the 1 year warranty.
    >> My previous Dell Inspiron which had the same warranty term lasted about 4 years and only gave up because of the Motherboard.
I personally bought a Thinkpad thinking it was reliable, but this is quite bad, especially for a sparingly used laptop.
    regards,
    Raghav

  • T400 LCD LED options

Why is it that you can't order though CTO or through normal models a T400 with an LED backlight and the 14.1" WXGA+ screen?  I know it does exist, as we received one like this a couple months ago.
Is there plans to have this available again in the near future?  Is it just an LCD shortage, or was there an issue with the screens themselves?

As I have just posted, the UK shop (www.lenovo.co.uk) have the WXGA+ LED with camera, so I don't know what's going on with the displays...

  • Screen Issues - Scratch on LCD / Discolored Aluminum on left side

I purchased my MBP July 2008 ... I have handled this laptop with kid gloves. I've been seeing a few things that concern me as of lately. First, I have the matte screen which is developing a horizontal scratch (looks like from the sharp edge next to the space bar). As if that isn't annoying enough, on the left side of the screen, the aluminum between the LCD and the edge of the screen is starting to discolor in spots causing it to turn white. Originally, I thought that there was something on it, but this doesn't come off...It is as if the finish is damaged. What gives?
I spent a fortune on this computer and am shocked to start seeing things like this given how well it is cared for. I have Googled and common reasons for the scratch is applying pressure to the screen which doesn't fit my situation. The scratch on the screen is a little ridiculous as it seems to be getting worse with time.
Is this something Apple will do anything about?
    Thanks in advance!

Okay...Now I need to give an update and ask again for help from the experts. At the same time I discovered my screen getting a horizonal scratch, my iSight camera quit working. I took it in to the Apple Store and they agreed to replace the screen as the hardware was faulty (broken camera) and sold me a piece of soft material to put between my screen and keyboard to prevent scratching after they replace the screen. I couldn't get it repaired the weekend I took it in due to their scheduling and the fact I live 100 miles away from the store. So they told me to bring it back to any Apple Store when it was convenient to do so and they would be glad to replace my screen as agreed upon. They noted the situation and I was set.
In December, I finally made time to have the computer screen replaced. Needless to say the tech who worked on it was either in a hurry or didn't care. Long story short, they gave me the last display assembly in stock which was warped and they didn't get the computer back together correctly because there is a gap on the rear of the display assembly on the left side where there shouldn't be one. Despite the mediocre repair, my iSight camera worked and they told me bring it to any Apple Store within 6 months and they would replace the screen again to make me "happy." This is after an employee at the Apple Store tried to convince me that my warped display was normal because of unavoidable manufacturing imperfections. My last display sat flat, so that excuse didn't fly. If I owned a Dell, that might be a different story, but I paid over $2000 for a machine and I expect better. Fast forward to tonight...I was going to get a iChat session rolling only to come to find that my iSight went out again (assuming another hardware failure). I know the screen is supposed to get replaced again down the road because of the poor repair job on the first go around, but how many hardware failures do I need before things work and continue to work?!? I cannot afford to drive 100 miles down to the Apple Store every 3 months because something else is broke. This is the second time the iSight went out for no apparent reason. What is the lemon law for computers?
I know I sound like a disgruntled Apple customer, but let me assure you that I'm venting. I love my MBP, but am disappointed with this situation and am seeking advice what to do about it.
I thought about trying to get my computer repaired at a local Apple Authorized Service Center where they order the part and fix it when the part comes in. I've seen their work for a keyboard replacement on a family members computer and it appears they do good work. Are there any downsides to having an Apple Authorized Service Center replace my screen for the second time?
Thanks in advance for any advice or insight you could shed on the current situation.
