T400 maximum H

Hi! I;ve been trying to search and cant seem to find any. I am out of disk space... (mostly because I had my first born join the family recently and videos and pictures take up a lot of my data.) It seems the maximum that the laptop will see is 320gb. I based that on this:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-72189
However, this one says otherwise:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T400-maximum-hard-drive-size-supported-by-B...
Can anyone reconfirm which is which?
I also just ordered a second HD bay (P/N 43N3412). Will it also be just a max of 320gb?
I prefer 1TB or at least 500GB if possible. Maybe through a BIOS update???
Thanks!

The largest 9.5mm drive I know of is 750GB. You can also consider an Ultrabay adapter, which would double your potential capacity.

  • Problem with T400 and external monitor (1920x1200 resolution)

    Hi there
    My laptop:
ThinkPad T400 2767-C99* (graphics is: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 256MB / X4500MHD (Switchable Graphics)), OS is WinXP
I just installed the newest video driver from the lenovo page (which also installs "ATI catalyst")
    Externale Monitor:
I just bought a Samsung SyncMaster 2443FW, 24" TFT monitor with maximum resolution 1920x1200
    Problem:
Monitor works great with my newer T400s and my old Acer laptop. However, with my T400 (described above), I can't make the monitor use the 1920x1200 resolution. However, all the other resolutions look ugly so I need it to work with 1920x120
    - If i change the resolution by rightclicking on the Windows XP desktop (and then properties=>settings) and set the screen resolution there to 1920x1200, then my monitor only used a lower resoltion (1440x900) and I get a scrolling effect as I move my pointer across the screen
    - if I use ATI catalyst software to set the resolution, I can only chose smaller resolutions (it does no go up to 1920x1200)
    Questions
Is that a hardware (maybe the graphic card does not support 1920x1200) or a software problem (maybe some problem with the driver) or just a matter of setting?
    What can I do?
Help would be very much appreaciated!

I have already installed the newsest drivers from Lenovo. I don't really see why I should install a non-official driver. I am convinced that it must work somehow with the official driver.
    Kind regards
there are plenty of instances where the official driver have glitches... just look around the forum to find instances of which.... while official drivers maybe better in most instances, there are always the odd case where it doesn't work as well as it should. If they perfectly out of box, then there would never need to be multiple revisions and updates.

  • T400s max resolution for external monitor ?

    Hello
What is the max resolution for an external monitor connected to a thinkpad t400s  ? The reason i am asking is that:
    a) Intel says:  the max resolution of Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is 2048x1536
    b) Lenovo says:  DisplayPort + D-sub dual-display output support 2560×1600 maximum resolution
What are your experiences and what maximum resolutions on external monitors have you succesfuly tried in real life ?
Would it be possible to connect a 30" monitor at 2560x1600  to a thinkpad t400s ?

i don't know and i never tried but i'm inclined to trust intel more than lenovo on this...unless the t400s has some beefed-up x4500mhd

  • T400 Not Connecting To LCD TV

I bought a T400 several years ago. I recently decided that I was interested in hooking it up to my LCD TV in order to watch movies and shows online. After some research I figured out that the best way for me to do this was to go through VGA because both my T400 and my LCD TV had the VGA hookup.
I bought the following cables from monoprice.com:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10201&cs_id=1020105&p_id=557&seq=1&form...
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=5612&seq=1&for...
I understood that with these cables I would be able to get both picture and sound on my LCD TV. However, my T400 is not being recognized by my LCD TV when I connect the cables. There is a PC Input on the back of the LCD TV which is what I am using but when I go to change the input on the LCD TV it is not recognizing that I even have my T400 connected. The model of my LCD TV is a Panasonic TC-L32X2.
I thought that my problem might have something to do with screen resolution so I consulted my user manuals. The LCD TV user manual states that the maximum resolution is 1,280 x 1,024 which I know is different from the resolution that I have set on my T400. I tried to mess with some of the resolution settings on my T400 but I was still unsuccessful in getting anything to work. I also tried playing around with adding devices, such as a projector, and was still unsuccessful.
Any help would be much appreciated because I would really like to get this to work. Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If all you want is stereo sound, this is what you need:
A mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
Edit: You also need a male HDMI to male HDMI cable
    A minijack to RCA cable.
If you are interested in 5 speakers (3 in front 2 in rear) with 1 subwoofer, see this user tip:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2458613&#2458613
HDMI does not carry audio on Mac connected displays.
Note, you may need to an online electronics store in the UK to buy it. But these items you can e-mail them
and show them what you need and they can say if they have it. Some items may be found at the Apple Store.

  • T400 XP SP2: Will increasing RAM have an effect?

    Hello...
I have a T400 running XP SP2 (32 bit) with the 3 GB RAM that the machine came with. I am wondering how much RAM I can install and if adding RAM will have an effect on speed?
    Thanks for any help....
    Best,
    Mavec

your 32 bit os would only allow you to use a maximum of 3 gigs of ram, if you need more ram then you would need to get the 64 bit os.
You should consider a SSD HDD instead.

  • Upgrade of my T400 with SSD and RAM

Hi guys,I have Lenovo T400, Model type: 6473-58G (NM758MC) and I am thinking about upgade of the laptop (if possible): 1) SSD disk - is it possible? If yes, should it be SATA, SATA II or SATA III SSD? If possible, can I use both, i.e. the old HDD as a data disk and a new one SSD with OS installed on it? Can you recommend some type? 2) RAM - I have currently 2GB - is it possible to upgrade? If yes, what is the maximum RAM? Can you recommend some type? Thanks a milion!

Perfect! 1) Maybe it is not the newest piece, but please remember that my T400 works only with SATA I maybe SATA II, so I guess I don`t need any new arrival. What do you think? I can get this Kingston for 65 USD (120 GB). 2) Is this caddy fine for me? http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Lenovo-ThinkPad-T400-T500Ultrabay-Slim-SATA-2nd-Hdd-Hard-Drive-Caddy-Module-/281671637457?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4194f019d1.
= my question, can I put the current HDD into the caddy and run it as a second disk? 3) I have troubles with finding DDR3 1066 MhZ non-ECC. Can you find some for example on amazon? Or what do you think about this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Samsung-4GB-DDR3-1066MHz-204Pin-PC3-8500-Laptop-Memory-SO-DIMM-RAM-NON-ECC-/161643111699?hash=item25a2ae2513 Is is safe to buy such stuff on ebay? Thanks a milion!

  • T400 wireless card help

    Hi all,
My T400 lately has been having problems with its wireless. It used to just be that the computer would some times randomly drop me and say there were no connections nearby when I had been connected to my home internet for a few hours in a row. A restart would fix this.
However, in the last few days, it's been happening more and more frequently. If i hit Fn+F5, it would only show my bluetooth, but no option to activate my wireless antenna (it IS on btw). Checking the device manager, the wireless card is not visible, and some times upon hitting refresh and re-search for hardware, it shows up again, only to intermittantly drop out of visibility on the device manager again and back on.
My computer is less than 6 months old (got it in December), does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

go into your control panel, system, device manager and right click on the wireless card and select property.
Under the property page, select maximum power output, switch off any power saving feature and select roaming aggressiveness to low.

  • T400 Slow Wireless

Hey.  I recently got a Lenovo T400 (type 2764, sn NCXBL) and the wireless internet is incredibly slow.   I think it has something to do with the power management  for the network card but I can't seem to find where in the system to adjust this.  I checked the power management program but there's nothing there concerning the network adapter.  None of my other computers have the problem and an identical T400 I borrowed from a co-worker has similar issues in my apartment.  Any ideas?

We don't know what OS you're using or what wifi card. The Intel 5300/5350 cards are the best that come with that machine. If you don't know what card you have, you can go into your "Device Manager" control panel, and look under "Network adapters." For more info on different cards, see:
I've seen websites that mention other Intel WiFi cards -- what about those cards?
We also don't know what wireless router you're using, or what wireless protocol you're using. 802.11n is best, the 5 GHz band is best, and using two 20 MHz channels at once (channel bonding) is best. If you don't know what any of that means, see:
What is 802.11n WiFi, and why is it any better than the older 802.11b or g WiFi?
In addition to that, left-click the little icon in the system tray that shows your wifi strength bars (says "access connections" when you hover over it), and select "View Status" from the resulting pop-up menu. In the resulting dialog box, your "theoretical" connection speed will be listed (300 Mbps is the best you can hope for -- your "real-world" transfer rate will be a lot less than what's shown, due to various overheads, etc.). In that dialog box, click "Modify WLAN Settings." In the resulting dialog box (in the Wireless Settings tab), click "Advanced configuration." In the resulting dialog box, click the pull-down menu and select "Maximum Performance."
At least, that's what you can do on my W700 running Vista Business 64. Although I have the Intel 5300 card, and that card works like gangbusters even when using the "Maximum Power Saving" setting (I'm seeing 300 Mbps using that setting).
    Best of luck!

  • May I order some more RAM along with my T400?

According to the shopping website, I can only order a maximum of 3GB of RAM for each T400 because I have simply seen no other choices.
So, my question is, may I order some additional  RAM separately for each machine from Lenovo's website? And if the question is 'yes', could you please give me a price? For example, if I want to buy an extra 2GB RAM, how much will I pay for it?
    Thank you!

The matter is the price of DDR3 RAM from Lenovo is remarkably cheaper than any third parties else hence I want to order from them.
One of my friends is ordering a T400 from Lenovo next week. Can I take this chance to order my RAM together with his laptop?

  • T400 7417-TRU Locking Up after screen blanks

    Greetings.
I recently purchased two Lenovo T400's, both being 7417-TRU models... one for me, one for my manager.  I, like many others, wiped my T400 as soon as it hit the desk Monday.  In the past, I have always downloaded all the latest and greatest drivers from the net... that is what I was planning to do.  I found very few drivers.  I ended up unboxing my managers T400 and creating restore discs.  What a PIA.  9 CD's, and it still isn't back to a true Factory load.
So my real issue.  Now that the thing is up and going, it's acting all goofy.  I set my power setting to NOT turn the HD off or put the system in to standby when on AC, but to shut the LCD off after 30 minutes.  My screen saver is also set to 20 minutes.  If the LCD goes off, when I move the mouse or whatever I do to wake it back up, the background will show, but it will not give me the Fingerprint reader option or the option to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to get back into the computer.  I have to hard power down the system and log back in.
Anyone have any similar issues, any ideas, thoughts, etc.
We just switched from Dell to Lenovo... Not getting a real good impression thus far.  And what is the deal with no Recovery media???  The R61's we have been buying have the recovery media and they are cheaper machines!

In fact, to do a complete work one should load and modify the "Default user" hive so that any new user tha logs on to these machine should inherit this power scheme.
Hope it helps someone, it would be nice that anyone having the same problem posted here to press Lenovo to find a proper solution.
One of these days I'll go to Lenovo Repair Center (here is the one from IBM) with a machine so that they try to find a solution, if so I'll post here the results.

  • Memory speed on T400

I have 2 ea. 2gb DDR3 PC-8500 1066Mhz memory modules installed in my T400. If I check the modules under Everest Ultimate 460 they read DDR2 running at 667 Mhz. If I use CPU-Z they also read DDR2 but don't show a speed. Has anyone else been able to check the speed of their modules and what program did you use? I don't see anything in the bios to cause the memory to run slower than rated. Do you think they are really running at 1066 MHz or do I have some type of compatibility problem. I get the same reading if I pull one of the modules out and check them one at a time.

Short answer, yes, the DDR3 memory bus in your T400/T500 should show at 533mhz(+/- 1mhz)
CPU-Z 1.51 will properly show as DDR3, previous versions may have incorrectly shown as DDR2
Here are your answers explianed in detail:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM
    T500 - P8600 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, Modded - 4GB Patriot DDR3 and 320GB Caviar Black 7200rpm drive with Ati HD3650 and Catalyst 9.6 modded drivers - Vista Business 32bit stripped down to bare bones with VM's from Ubuntu to Win7RC1 64-bit.

  • Laptop-TV: HOW TO CONNECT T400 with the TV (not HD)?

    Hello guys,
I would like to connect my three years old Lenovo T400 ( with VGA)  with the TV (I will use the same connection with the DVD player...with my PC was OK because I used a video card ...well...is  impossible with the laptop...)
No ideea what to do...what to buy...how to do it...if it is possible with my laptop...
I checked on the Lenovo site..Docks&Port replicators for T400...only 2 options with DVI...not on the TV...and here... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70321.html ...and...someting about display port...not on my laptop...
There are other solutions regarding TV?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Have a nice day!
    Solved!

no...the T400 has only the VGA output...I bought a cable which has on the first end ...VGA input and on the other end ...the standards jacks (red,yellow,white)...was not working at all...also I found something here...http://www.shopiogear.com/store/iogear/en_CA/pd/productID.196475400/categoryId.42447600...is with an external DVI at the end...will check now if there are some cable with internal DVI and on the other end composite jacks...thanks for your help.
