T400 Motherboard replacement
I have a T400 and I'm thinking the MOBO is bad, it boots up then after a little while (5-20 min) it will freeze up, then after a few minutes it shuts off on it's own and reboots. Whewn it starts the screen goes black then after a few minutes it reboots again, then tells me windows did not load properly.
I have checked everything over many times and can't find any other problem
it is a T400 7417-RH4
The current mobo is FRU 60Y 3751
Would a 60Y 3761 be a compatible replacement?

Just to make sure, the hard drive has no bad sectors, right?

Thinkpad T400 Motherboard Replacement Advice
I accidentally dropped my T400 into water(Fell from a table into a water container). The service technician who checked it told me that motherboard's not working and has to be replaced. Now I am not sure whether to invest in the motherboard or buy a new one(I had a core 2 duo P8700 which is a decent processor and these days you get and i3's and i5's from $600).
Couple of things here is
1) T series right now would be outside my budget range.(student)
2) I am not sure if I would be happy with the lower end thinkpads/Dells/HP.
So any suggestion at thi\s point?
Would replacing a motherboard be worthwhile(The technician told me it would be around 300- 350 range.
Should I go with a new one or should I get the motherboard replaced?Ouch...
What else is broken on it? Did any other parts survive the dunking- the screen, hard drive, RAM, battery, keyboard/UltraNav, fingerprint reader, speakers, or other motherboard modules such as WiFi and Bluetooth?
It might be a good idea to try to score a used one through the usual channels- they're around that costly (less than $450 anyways)- and just write off the other one, depending on how many other parts still work.
How much water did it fall into, anyways? Was it a full 5-gallon jug, or was it just an inch or two of water that killed it? -
T400, motherboard replaced and Windows 7 says it is not a legal license
Hi, we have a T400, it had a problem with the motherboard and the local tech support replaced it. Now Windows says that the Windows 7 is not legal, that a Legal version of Windows should be buyed. This is a Windows 7 32bits, English. Pre-installed on the ThinkPad T400. In System Properties, at the botom, it says: Windows Activated But when I run the Windows Genuine Website, it says it is not a legal copy. Also, a pop-up appears near the time and says it is not a legal copy of windows. Should I call Microsoft an re-activate Windows 7? Many thanks Oliver
Hi, I checked the BIOS and it has the same serial and type as in the printed label on the botom of the notebook. Also, checked que SLIC and it is present. I used everest software in order to check: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/03/03/slic-table-slicbin-or-acpislicbin-bios-file-for-oems-downlo... I will try these steps in order to see what happends: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T410-update-new-BIOS-SLIC-misssing/m-p/2851... Regards, Oliver

My '08 17" macbook pro motherboard replacement has issues
my mac had its motherboard replaced by the recall a couple years back and since i got it back it has been restarting on it's own, if have too much pressure on the keyboard or if the surface under (table) isn't perfectly level.
ONce it restarts - it won't stop until it's level and been powered off and on several times.
I had been living with this problem for the past 2 years as of this february (I believe) until it stopped for 24hrs 3 weeks ago and I was forced to buy again.
My buddy told me it could be because apple hired a 3rd party company to handle the replacements of the recalled motherboards and they neglected to tape a cable that causes the power surge to restart my mac or that they didn't solder the connection.
How can i fix this issue?Sorry, let me clarify.
Yes, it was the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT recall
It works, but suffers from restarts when moved from one location to another and must be restarted over and over until the power from the surge stops.
I want to figure out how to fix myself (I do alot of iphone repairs and can handle small fixes) or if needed through apple or a 3rd party.
I need it fixed completely, because I'm sending this to my computer illiterate mother. -
Lenovo B560 motherboard replacement
Hi,
My dear laptop died on me about a month ago. It wouldn't do anything when pressing the power button and the power led would not light when connected to power. Tried with or without the battery, no led, no power. I checked with another cable and I checked my cable on another laptop and it worked so the issue has nothing to do with the power cable.
I took the laptop to my universities repair shop for a diagnosis and they said the Motherboard is dead.
Any suggestion where I could find a brand new motherboard replacement in the UK?
Thanks,
sorband

Qosmio F10 won't recover after motherboard replacement
Hi,
I'm having a problem with recovery on my Qosmio F10. It won't boot from the CD, I get a message 'media test failure check cable'.
I tried everything I could find here about this problem with no result. Then I read somewhere on this forum that recovery cd wouldn't work if the laptop has been serviced and has a new motherboard. This is excatly the case.
I had a new motherboard and CD/DVD drive put some time ago.
How do I make it work again?
A.> Then I read somewhere on this forum that recovery cd wouldn't work if the laptop has been serviced and has a new motherboard. This is exactly the case.
Who has replaced the motherboard? The ASP?
Well, usually the Recovery CD should works after the motherboard replacement.
I presume the parts were replaced with exactly the same parts and therefore there shouldnt be a conflict between the Recovery CD and the new motherboard.
Did you try to boot from another bootable CDs like Win XP or Linux? Check this! -

Everything is not working fine, and a pop with sparks is not a normal result from turning on a power supply. If you got it from Tiger send it back and get this one.
I talked to the rep earlier, but I had to go to a meeting. When I called him back he said he was on the phone with Intel to make sure my CPU would work with that board. I know it will work so I have no clue why he called them. He didn't seem to concerned about the PSU though. I told him that the PSU popped and made sparks and it didn't phase him at all. I already told him I wanted to exchange the RAM with different kind and I wanted a new PSU. When I give him the new RAM and the PSU I want I will give this one a try.
Thank you for your help. -
Afte rmany years my R61I 8918CTO 08/03 has given up the ghost due to the infamous
Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M.. GARBLED DISPLAY PROBLEM that Lenovo and Nvidia know about and of course refuses to fix now.
I have the 15.4" wide screen with 1900 max resolution, 1394 firewire, bluray writer and T9300 chip so it was a very expensive nice laptop that still does everything I want. I have taken very good care of it over the years and it is in excellent condition. Right now it is brick due to the GPU chip. Now my question is what is the Motherboard number without me taking it apart to get it before I have a replacement board and what motherboards replace it? AFter research I see if I can get the same motherboard after 08/08 it should be good. Or is there another motherboard with a better GPU chip I can use? I know this is an old laptop but it will cost over $1000 to get the same thing now just slightly faster with more memory I do not need so I would like to fix this one.
I have found what I believe is in the laptop either 42W7791 or 42W7882 both with the Nvidia chip. I cannot find a replacement with the Intel chip.
Thanks!Welcome to the forum!

Post 08/08 boards are rare. You can contact forum member TuuS, he may be of help finding you a proper board.

There's the possibility of fitting a T61p planar (Nvidia Quadro FX570M) in your R61i case, but the frame needs modifications and there are other disadvantages. Source (german only): http://thinkwiki.de/R61i#T61-Board_im_R61-Geh.C3.A4use
Regarding the Intel boards, you can try to get one of the following FRU numbers listed below, there might be more, I got those from the hardware maintenance manual (you can download it from here: click me!)

HP G5056EA motherboard replacement
Hi Guys,
I'm replacing my motherboard as its dead, no sign of life when power cable is plugged in, it shows that charger is plugged in by illuminating power sign on the led screen where hdd light, power on lights are.
so assuming need a new motherboard. I've bought new one now struggling to open the laptop to get it out. I have removed
every possible visible screws from the back but it seems like one or two screws are holding it up from the middle of the laptop which It seems like they're screwed from below the keyboard.
I would apprecaite if someone can show me how to get this motherboard out, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.I don't think I will ever receive reply from HP tech support as I have rang them and they were unable to help me.
So far I have bought 18 laptops for my business and guess what all of them had one or the other issue. 2 of them needed motherboard replacing within 2 months,
Based on my experience with HP products and especially HP tech Support, I would never recommend anyone to buy any HP product from now on.

Hi i bought a Macbook Pro 8 & a half mounths ago.Today i had the hard drive replaced as it was faulty and on Monday i have to take it back to the Apple shop to have the Motherboard replaced. I feel that i should be asking for a new macbook, where do i stand.
Yes thats what i thought but i only have 77 days left on my garentee so its a worry, and have to drive 1 hour to get to closest Apple shop, spent the whole day there today when i should have been at work and have to make the drive again on Monday Then back again next Friday to pick it up. I paid over £1000 ponds for this computer so wouldnt expect it to have its insides replaced befor a year. Feel very let down, and no longer love my macbook pro.

Blue & White motherboard replacement
Hi,
I own a Blue & White G3 350 with an original motherboard (not the Rev2). I'd like to buy a Rev2 motherboard and do a swap. The Rev2 motherboard that I am looking to buy has a G3 450 processor on it. One look at my list of Macs at the bottom of this post (I still own them all) will tell you that I'm no stranger to the Mac platform. I have upgraded hard drives/optical drives, RAM, video and audio cards, but have never attempted anything like a complete motherboard replacement. How easy is it and is there anything special I need to do? Also, would there be any compatibility issues regarding the systems from one revision to the next?
Thanks in advance...
Mac +, Mac SE30, Mac II, Powerbook 140, Performa 6400/180, G3 233MT, G3 350 B&W, Mac OS X (10.4.5) G4 500 DP, G5 2.0 DP.You will need a grounding wrist strap and a #2 Phillips screwdriver. When you get all the screws out, the board slides about 1/4 inch away from the backpanel and then you lift it gentely up and out.
When you are done, you may need to do a firmware update, which requires some version of Mac OS 9 on a Hard drive (not just a CD).
A PRAM backup battery anywhere near 3.2 Volts in your hand will be dead soon.
Superstition says that if it will not start after the swap, even with a good battery and a CUDA Reset, holding down command Option P R while you press the start button on the keyboard may give better results. -
Yoga 2 Pro motherboard replacement -- are different configs interchangeable?
I bought a Yoga 2 Pro laptop in February 2014 (so it's out of warranty) -- Core i5 with 8GB of RAM. Unfortunately, 2 days ago it randomly turned off (with the keyboard backlight and power button LED flashing about every 3 seconds). I've been able to turn it back on twice, but the problem still persists. From looking around this forum, the problem is likely faulty RAM, which means a motherboard replacement is in order.I am unable to find the exact same motherboard for sale online, but I found the Core i7 with 8GB RAM version. Are the two motherboards interchangeable? Has anyone successfully done this? Thanks in advance!
Despite lack of an answer, I went ahead and bought the i7 version. I can confirm the two are indeed interchangeable. So, if you're looking to upgrade your existing Yoga 2 pro, it can be done via a motherboard replacement (though not exactly cheaply). My laptop now works again (knock on wood that it won't start acting up again). However I can't say that I've been impressed with its quality so far Forgot to mention: taking my laptop apart and putting it back together again fixed a minor screen alignment issue (screen was not 100% aligned with base when closed). It always bugged me (though not enough to RMA), and I'm not sure why it shipped out new from the factory like that but I'm glad I was able to fix this as well.

I got the motherboard replaced from the recall. But the problem is the tech did not put in the Model # and serial on the motherboard. Is there any motherboard manuals that might tell me if the specs have been upgraded etc??
