T400 - only integrated graphics?

There seems to be only integrated graphics for the T400 (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with vPro)... Can a dedicated graphics card be added to it?

Do you mean the T400 literally, or some other machine? Do you already have the T400, or are you shopping?
My T400 has both integrated and discrete graphics - "switchable".

Z77A-G45 only integrated graphics boot

Hey all, just upgraded mobo and cpu and so far its only working on the on-board graphics, when i have the monitor connected to a card it wont start boot at all, it comes on, lights and fans whirring but it wont enter the boot screen just stays blank with light on standby, have tried with 2 different cards besides my main and in different pci slots, nada, same thing.
I did have one other problem now fixed but i dont know if relevent to this, when i first turned the newly built comp on and had the above problem i tried the onboard graphics method, it booted but then crashed at windows startup with the x07b error, which after some checking is a hard disk error, i set the sata mode to IDE and it worked, can now go into windows as normal but still only on the onboard graphics.
Any help/advice is appreciated, thanks.

thanks for identifying the problem to that little curio, a OS reinstall hmm was trying to avoid that but now I know what the prob is and can tackle it once things are settled.
To get the discrete card to work, change the graphics setting from IGD to PEG, Save and Exit and then hard shut down. Install the discrete card connecting it's PCI-E power, connect the monitor to the discrete card, start the system and see if it now shows graphics.
tried this and alas it hasn't worked, I turn on and go into bios, under advanced section the integrated graphics configuration subsection and the initiate graphic adapter line, I change it from IGD to PEG, click save and exit, while its rebooting I yank out power cable (you said hard shut down), clear power (wait a min and press power button down), install graphics card and connect monitor, reconnect power cable power on and...the same thing.
It was originally actually on PEG so I changed it, saved and let it go into windows to do clean shut down to try your method, did the same thing when it failed first time, have tried a few times now, even tried the method but with changing from PEG to IGD, just in-case of the outside chance the order was a typo on your part.

MSI Z77A G45 not detecting Sapphire HD 7950 , only integrated graphic works

First of all - sorry for my poor english,
I've build my setup today.
MSI Z77A G45
i5 3570k with Macho Hr 02
Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X
2x4 GB Corsair Low Profile 1600
XFX Core 550W
The problem is MOBO is not dectecting my HD7950 Sapphire when connect to HD7950 HDMI out (using SONY Bravia as display) It works only with integrated graphic on MOBO hdmi out. I've installed Win7 64-bit. System boots fine but only on i5 graphic.
I'm using nearest CPU PCIe port. Unfortunately can't try plug HD7950 in with other PCIe port, Radeon won't fit in case I own (Fractal Core 3000 usb 3.0)

Has the VGA been tested in another machine to verify it works? Do you have access to other VGA's you can test in the primary graphics PCI-E 16X33 slot? If nothing works, then it can be a troubleshooting extravaganza! First recommendation would be to test outside the case on a plain piece of cardboard or untreated wood surface, barebones configuration. Inspect the case for any errant standoffs that may be shorting/grounding the PCI-E slot. The primary graphics PCI-E slot not working can also be caused by a pin problem in the CPU socket. A bright light and magnifier will be needed for socket pin inspection.

Radeon hd 7670m is disabled coz it's broken. Amd driver don't work. Windows use vgasave driver. How can i use amd driver with radeon hd7660g?

T400 Integrated Graphics

Hi,
I started using Ubuntu 8.10 alpha (Intrepid) with my new T400. Everything works for the most part. The only exception being Integrated graphics. When xorg starts I get some mode switching action, and then the whole system freezes, not just the display, I had a ssh session going, and it freezes too.
I have the latest BIOS (1.12-1.01). Intrestingly one of the fixesin this BIOS reads like this:
(Fix) System may hang after graphics mode changing and reboot.
This sounds very much like what I experienced, so I am concurned that this bug was never really fixed.
Anyone else having a similar experience?

Yes, my laptop does this also about 80% of the time -- I'm using Xorg 1.5 7.4 from Debian Experimental with Kernel 2.6.27-rc5 (for the new Intel 5000 wireless driver). I've also identified two other bugs which may be related: "DPMS off" events cause the same hang. And LID close events will sometimes cause kernel panics.
I have tried just about everything I can think of including recompiling the kernel several different ways and about a hundred obscure proc, sys and kernel command line options and nothing appears to affect it.
I currently believe this is a Lenovo ACPI BIOS bug but I don't know enough about ACPI tracing to debug that hypothesis.
Anyone know of any Lenovo beta BIOS's for T400?
((BTW, I git-clone'd the upstream Intel driver and it's SO far ahead of Xorg 1.5 that there's no way to get it to compile. They've already switched trunk to GEM and Kernel modesetting. But, there are some interesting looking log messages about pipes, etc.))

How to enable only intel graphics/discrete graphics on T400(WxgA+), windows xp,

I got a T400 with switchabale graphics (something i dont understand). I want my 9 cells to provide as long a run as feasible
without recharging. Which mode of graphics should i set it to and how do i do it?.
My blackbox (a bit heavy for me for carrying ) is a t400 with 9 cells and a wxga+, 2gb,120GB.

Edited: Sorry, missed the first time that you were on XP. The answer below is for Vista only. For XP because of op sys limitations you don't have true switchable graphics capability. You can switch between the two graphics cards during BIOS setup only. To switch, reboot turning power off, then power on and on initial screen hold F1 to enter BIOS setup. Choose config and then display, and toggle graphics between integer (energy saving) and discrete (high performance). First time you switch you may have to reboot an extra time to allow the drivers to install.
If you have the latest release of the power manager (2.42) right click on it (the battery icon) and choose switchable graphics. If you are still on 2.37 or earlier release of the power manager left click instead. Once you have found the switchable graphics option switch between the two graphics cards by choosing energy saving and high performance GRAPHICS. (NOT similar options in the normal part of the power manager.)

Only Use Integrated Graphics When Using Battery

Can someone tell me how I can set-up my 2011 MBP 2.3GHz i7 so it only uses Integrated graphics card when I am using the battery? I just upgraded to Lion 10.7.1 and my barrery life stinks. I downloaded and am using gfxCardStatus and set it to Integrated graphics only for battery power. When I launch Twitter and other apps (Angry Birds), it still switches to Discrete graphics. I also set my Energy Saver Preferences to Automatic Graphics switching to help preseve the battery.

No DVI output with T420 on integrated graphics card and Mini Dock Series 3

Because of some application problems I have to set my new T420 to only use the integrated graphics card (disabling the NVidia Optimus feature). In this configuration I seem to be unable to use the DVI port on the Mini Dock Series 3, there is simply no signal and Windows reports that no monitor could be found. The VGA output works but the picture quality is quite bad.
Is this a known design limitation or do I deal with a driver issue?

Yes, that works but there is the drawback of battery life. In the course of the day I often undock the laptop to go to meetings and using the discreet graphics card uses a lot more power and significantly reduces the time i can work without power. I would have to restart the laptop and change the setting in the BIOS after I undock, which is just not practical. For what I do I don't need the graphics power of the discreet card.

Systemd multiseat with NVidia card and Intel integrated graphics

I'm trying to set up multiseat Gnome 3 on a system running the nvidia proprietary drivers. The first seat on the nvidia GPU is working fine. For the second seat I'm trying to use an integrated Intel GPU, but all I get is the GDM "Oh no, something has gone wrong" screen. I'm not sure why, but I suspect it could be because the intel driver is also trying to load nvidia's libglx.so:

Unfortunately the config file for the second X server is /run/systemd/multi-session-x/seat1, which is not persistent. Is there any other way to get a different config file to the second X server, so I can force it to load the default libglx.so?

One thing you can do to ensure highest perfomance on games is go to the Nvidia Control Panel, Manage 3D Settings, Programs, then find the game you want and set it to use only NVIDIA High Performance (or Discrete) graphics. You can't use both cards at the same time as of writing this (DirectX 11), but with the arrival of Windows 10 and DirectX 12 on July 29 you will be able to use both at once to increase performance. Until then, though, it is simply not possible to use both at once. The best option is to just use the GTX 860M.

Satellite Pro L300 - OpenGL 2.0 support for Intel Integrated Graphics

Just want to share the news that I was able to install the new Intel Chipset drivers that add OpenGL 2.0 support to their integrated graphics chips, such as the X3100.
This driver was released in December 2008 and even though Intel recommends waiting for OEM versions from Toshiba, I decided to try theirs.

Ive got a U400 and I have installed a Intel graphic card driver from the Intel page too.
I didnt execute the exe file but I updated my driver in device manager.
This worked fine.
Also I read here in the forum that drivers from external pages can be used only at the own risk because such drivers are not tested and not certified by Toshiba
However, my U400 run trouble free till now.

Error when installing latest GM45 integrated graphics drivers

I have a T400 64-bit Windows 7 machine with switchable graphics, model CTO 2764 . Current integrated graphic driver version is 8.15.10.1892.
I'm trying to update to latest driver version 8.15.10.1968, released 11/13/2009.
Following the installation notes, I changed the BIOS OS Detection for Switchable Graphics to Disabled and Graphics Device to Integrated Graphics. During the driver install, I'm getting the following error message: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.
Have tried several times, re-downloaded the package... still no change. Has anyone else experienced this error while updating their drivers?

It appears if you are unlucky enough to get ths recurrent fatal error(asI I have) and are not a pc tech, you have purchased a door stop. I have purchased hp printers for years but this will be the last. Like the previous consumer, I have wasted countless hours on this correction.... Will never happen again. I will not double the cost of the printer paying consultants who swoop in like vultures to correct the problem.

Wrong integrated graphics driver

Hello,
My MacBook has an Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics chipset, but my XP-SP3 partition sees only a 965 chipset. Furthermore, When I am in XP, Intel's online driver-update tool claims that I have the correct and most up-to-date 965 driver. Has anyone heard of this problem? Am I the one who is wrong, instead of Windows?
If this is asked and answered, please point me in the right direction. Also, tell me what information I need to post in order to help diagnose?

the GMA X3100 is a part of the 965 chipset, so the informations from the online driver-updates are correct.

To my knowledge, when you use 'Control panel' - 'System' - 'Hardware' - 'Device Manager' you should get an entry for the X3100 when looking at the 'Video' section.
(Not really sure, since I don't have a MB).
Did you install the BootCamp Drivers from the Leopard OSX DVD and used the Driver update 2.1 from Apple ?

Basic 21.5" iMac With Integrated Graphics For FCE 4 Editing?

A PC friend of mine is toying with the idea of trying an iMac but is appalled by the high prices!
I suggested he could use the base model with the integrated graphics with FCE 4.
I realise that integrated graphics may pose a problem with certain high end apps such as Final Cut Studio 3, but for his basic editing with FCE 4 I would imagine it would be perfectly fine.
To my knowledge, the only thing that might be adversely affected are the FXPlug effects, which to him would be no great deal as his editing will be undemanding.
Any comments welcome, particularly from anyone who has used such a machine. Do the FXPLugs work, all or some or none?
Incidentally, there is no way he would fork out the extra cash for the next model up. It's the base model or no Mac at all.

Thanks Ian for asking because before I bought my 24" iMac with 256 dedicated graphics card, I was considering buying the Mac Mini which comes with the same integrated graphics card as the 21.5" base model that you mentioned.
But at that time, I didn't really got an answer because the Mac Mini was new. So, in order not to take risk, I bought the 24" iMac.
Now that you asked, I am thinking of getting the Mac Mini if everyone here confirms that the integrated graphics card in the Mac Mini is not an issue. Since your friend is on a tight budget, why not buy a Mac Mini especially if he/she already has a monitor ?
Besides, if he/she buys a Mac Mini, he/she can hook it up with a 27" monitor !

I'm having graphics problems with my notebook. I installed the latest Nvidia 820m drivers but still 3d apps are very slow.m Also inside dxdiag it shows that the integrated graphics has only 265mb. Sort of. You don't install the regular nvidia drivers package but the bumblebee one.

Looking at your previous posts, are you referring to the IdeaPad Z710 model? If yes and the Z710 came with an Intel+Nvidia GPU then this uses the Nvidia Optimus technology to switch between the Integrated and discrete graphics.
I don't have a Z710 here with me for testing but ideally, there's an option in the BIOS to switch between UMA (Integrated Graphics) and Optimus (switchable graphics). In event that the Nvidia GPU is showing signs of failure, you can boot into the BIOS and temporarily disable the Nvidia GPU by changing the Graphic Device to UMA and still be able to use the laptop using the Integrated graphics.
Alternatively, you can also disable the Nvidia GPU under the Device Manager.
