T400 Ram Upgrade, 2x4 Gb, only beeps

Hey guys, I've got following problem.
So far I use 6 Gb (4+2) in my T400 2765-52G. The rams are from Kingston (4gb, kvr1066d3s7/4g) and Samsumg (2gb, m471b5673eh1). This works.
I need additional ram so I bought an 8gb stick from Kingston. But the Notebook only beeped (short pause short short short pause short). I realized the G45 does only support more than 4Gb for each slot. So I ordered 4Gb. First from Kingston (KVR16S11S8/4) then from Samsung (M471b5173bh0). They did not work either. Same result as above.
I removed the ac adapter + battery + bios battery, I did a bios update to 3.25 and changed the slots, tried the single module - nothing.
Do you have any ideas?
Thank you very much,
Jan

I never could make DDR3-12800 work in a T400, T500 and X200/s. They will just not boot or give typical error beep sequence 1-3-3-1
DDR3-10600 worked so far, so I would suggest you try to get one of those (avoid the "Value Ram" line from Kingston and the "Value Select" line from Corsair)

  • I have a Presario CQ56-115DX. I attempted a ram upgrade now I only get bsod.Help?

I recently attemptede a ram upgrade to 2-4 GB PC3 DDR3 1066Mhz modules but the notebook would not turn on(aka.....black screen and no sound, just blinking caps lock). I then put the original RAM back into the previously working pc and it blue screened. I attempted a system repair with a factory OEM of windows 7 but it was unsuccessful. The error tells me to remove or uninstall newly added software or hardware. I ran a memtest from bios on both the memory and the hard drive which detected no problems. I reformatted the hard drive and attempted a reinstall but the computer blue-screened during installation before the files were even installed. Could someone please help?

Try install with just one memory module installed, try the other slot if it does not work on the first try.

this is the right type of ram and specification, but i am not sure you should go for the Corsair brand. I would go with other brands like Crucial, G.skill, Samsung, KIngston.

  • 3 beeps with ram upgrade

My Macbook beeps after installing ram upgrade. Doesn't matter what maker. I know that all the specs are right but I keep getting the 3 beeps to indicate the banks are empty, not that it's incompatible RAM type. What do I do now?

When I put the old memory cards back in, it starts but only showing half the RAM. When I switch positions (slots) for the cards, the empty banks also switch positions so that seems to indicate a problem with one of the original cards now also. Am currently the hardware test. Just done in record time, "no trouble found." However, profile is showing only half the RAM actually installed.

    Hey terremo,
Thanks for the question. From the information you provided, it sounds like the iMac is successfully turning on, however video is not displayed. These symptoms can usually be isolated further by the troubleshooting steps in this article:

  • RAM upgrade MBP 7.1 fail.  Only stock RAM works.  Logic board problem?

    pulling my hair out here.
I have recently uprgraded my mid 2010 mbp to mountain lion and thought i would upgrade as much as i could but ran straight into frustration town.
after a full day trying 8 different types and amounts of RAM, my MBP will only boot to a useable state with the stock ram it came with.
I made an appointment with a 'genius' at the apple store (the annoyance of having to call a condescending punk a genius is just too much to handle) and had said 'genius' disappear with my mbp for a half hour or so.  Once he returns he tells me it is logic board problem and 'boy you aren't going to like the price of the repair'.  F'n' right, genius!
    My question is this:
would a faulty logic board allow the stock ram to work but NOTHING else?
secondary question:  anyone else notice a slowing down of operations with mountain lion?

In your original post I got the impression that your MBP worked with the original RAM.  Apparently that was a misconception on my part.  My suggestions are to first run an Apple Hardware Test and see what clues, if any it offers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
You may have to start it by holding OPTION D.
Next I suggest that you look over this user tip document and follow the procedures that apply to your MBP and OS:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3353
Kappy may have some additional ideas.
    Ciao.

  • 24" iMac (Primo 2009) strange RAM upgrade issue

I have a 24" iMac (Primo 2009) at work. I been granted a RAM upgrade by the IT department and have received 2 indentical 4 GB modules.
The 24" iMac (Primo 2009) uses 1066 MHz DDR3 modules and supports up to 8 GB RAM in 2 slots. I have purchased RAM from this source http://www.dustin.dk/product/5010642132/corsair-4gb-ddr3-1066mhz-1x4gb-so-dimm-i mac-macbook-macpro/#intcmp=searchProvider_SiteSeeker (Corsair Mac Memory so they SHOULD be fine.)
    Here's the issue:
I had 2x 2GB modules. I have taken both out.
I have inserted the new 2x 4GB modules but the machine refuses to boot. It gives off 3 beeps-interval-3 beeps-interval (repeats).
I took out one of the 4GB modules from slot B. It boots.
I inserted the one I removed in slot B again so we're back at 8GB. same beeps. No boot.
I switched the 2 4GB modules from slot A+B around. Now beep-interval-beep-interval (repeats) No boot.
I inserted one 4 GB in slot 1, and one of the old 2 GB in slot 2. It boots with 6GB RAM.
I inerted only the one that won't boot when in slot B in slot A, beep-interval-beep-interval (repeats) No boot.
OK - so logical deduction tells me one of the new 4GB RAM modules is defective. No matter what configuration, booting fails with that specific module inserted, though there are different beeps. I also know tha both slots work since the machine works with 6 GB RAM (2+4).
So I called Dustin, and since we're a big customer they sent a new moduel for free. But, I have the same isssue with the new module!! What are the chances I have recived 1 working and 2 defective modules? not big right? So my iMac seems fine with the old 2GB modules and one of the new 4 GB modules, but says no to the 2 other 4GB modules.
YES - I have tried resetting PRAM and SMC to no avail. Any clue?

Switched the 2 modules around, so there's now a 2GB in slot A and a 4 GB in slot B. Still works fine

  • IMac 27" Juli 2010 Model, i7 2,93 RAm Upgrade Problem

    Hi,
after running my brand new iMac 27 for a few days without any problems, I wanted to upgraded the RAM to 12 GB total, having purchased two 4 GB Samsung Mac certified RAMs from a dealer already.
I opened the thing and put the 4 GB banks into the two free slots closest to the display. After rebooting, I had to realise that the Mac only recognized 6 GB of RAM total! One 4 GB piece and one of the original 2 GB Apple ones, indicating that the other two banks were empty?¿ I took out the RAM again and was back to 4 GB of original RAM.
Now I took out all the RAM and stuck the two 4 GB pieces into the banks that the original RAMs were in. Rebootet the machine and voila, I had 8 GB of RAM. Opened the machine up one more time and stuck the original Apple RAM in the two remaining slots and after rebooting, I had the full 12 GB of RAM.
Now...is that the way it is supposed to be? And if, why would there be no mentioning of that behaviour in the manual? I have bought lots of Apple certified RAM from that dealer in the last ten years and stuck that into my other Macs and never had such a problem.
I just want to get some feedback, that if it works now, I am fine. Otherwise I could return the RAM and have them send me some in exchange.
The iMac so far is running just fine with the 12 GB of RAM.
    Some input would beappreciated, thanks!
    Peter
PS: I would call Apple support to ask, but my experience with them is, that they will just refer my to the RAm dealer, since it was not bought at the Apple store.

    Hi Roger,
well, my problem ist, that inserting the new 2x4 GB RAM modules in the two remaining slots of the iMac should have worked just fine and given me 12 GB of RAM. But it only showed 6 Gb of RAM and two empty slots, which weren't empty!
Swapping the original Apple RAM into the other two slots and using the Apple RAM slots for the new 2x4 GB RAM modules was the only way to get the iMac to give me the expected 12 GB of RAM.
So, I am still wondering, if there is a problem with the new RAM modules? It does not state in the manual, that 4 GB modules would have to be inserted in a particular slot for them to be recognized fully. It just says to stick them in the empty slots.
I knnow, it maybe a no brainer, since all seems to work fine now, but that Mac wasn't all that cheap and I don't want to risk anything.
    Cheers
    Peter

  • Mac Mini RAM upgrade: failure after one week

    my system:
      Model Name:          Mac mini
      Model Identifier:          Macmini5,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i5
      Processor Speed:          2.5 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          2
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
After severe performance problems with Aperture, I decided to go for an RAM upgrade to 2x4GB. Went to my (non-Apple) dealer, got me two DDR3 1333Mhz Samsung bricks and put them in. Worked like a chime. Startup went fine, RAM types shown in the Activity Monitor with plenty of free RAM and great performance... for a change.
After a week however my Mac froze. A restart gave me two beeps and a flashing light in front. Manual tells me 'wrong RAM type'. Same situation after replacing only one of the bricks.
A bit weird after a week of juicy operation?
Getting back the old RAM installed resulted in a working Mac - but with the limited memory obviously.
Will go back to the dealer and have the RAM replaced next week.
Ever heard about RAM failing after a well?
    /thanks!

    UPDATE:
right, I went back to my dealer and got the RAM sticks replaced. the miniMac booted up at the store and is now working fine again. Let's see for how long.
    Size:          4 GB
      Type:          DDR3
      Speed:          1333 MHz
      Status:          OK
      Manufacturer:          0x80CE
      Part Number:          0x4D34373142353237334348302D4348392020
      Serial Number:          0x005001B9
I had checked the serial number and RAM chip IDs with the Samsung tool from their homepage. Looked just fine.
To my limited knowledge about Silicon production it would not be too easy to produce fake RAM sticks that
    - are accepted by the HW check
    - show the capacity as specified
    - .. but fail after few days (haha!)
I will update you about the latest with this story.

  • Why my iMac (mid 2010 - model 11,2) doesn't recognize the RAM upgrade?

Hi, I have a big problem. I bought on Amazon 16 GB of RAM (Corsair Ddr3 1333Mhz 4Gb 204 Sodimm unbuffered). The problem is: my iMac can recognize a max of 3 benches of RAM but not 4. Everytime i try to upgrade all the 4 benches the iMac freezes and does 3 loud beep, while when upgrading only 3 benches it works. These are the attempts i made with every single bench of RAM:
-2x2GB Original RAM - IT WORKS
-1x4GB bought RAM - IT WORKS - i try every single bench of RAM, this means that the products are ok.
-2x4GB bought RAM - IT WORKS
-3x4GB bought RAM - IT WORKS
    -4x4GB bought RAM - DOESN'T WORK - 3 beeps signal
    -3x4GB bought RAM + 1x2GB Original RAM - DOESN'T WORK - 3 beeps signal
    -2x4GB bought RAM + 2x2GB Original RAM - DOESN'T WORK - 3 beeps signal
Is there someone who had the same issue and can tell me how to solve it?
    Thanks!

As has been mentioned endlessly in this Forum, iMacs are particularly sensitive to the exact Brand of RAM that they will run Stabley with.  Samsung, Crucial and OWC's are noteworthy brands that have consistently received glowing reports of compatibility herein.  Straying to other brands frequently results in the kind of problem you are experiencing.
I would concur with X423424X that you return the Corsair modules and go with OWC (http://www.macsales.com) or one of the others I've recommended.
    Hope this helps

  • Ram Upgrade on Satellite P500 - from 4GB to 6 GB

I get the feeling that I'm asking a stupid question but here goes.
Just bought a P500 with 4Gb memory and decided to go with the recommended 2Gb upgrade. Went to install the ram chip and could only find 2 slots both of which are occupied with the existing 2Gb chips.
Is there another expansion slot that I'm missing or have I been sold a lemon in the form of the recommended 2Gb upgrade?
    Thanks and Happy New Year

    Hey,
No, there is no hidden RAM slot because notebooks are equipped with 2 RAM slots only but usually its enough.
So for an upgrade you have to buy a 4GB module and replace it with one 2GB module. The other 2GB module you can still use, then you an amount of 6GB. :)

  • HP Envy 13 1030nr. Windows 7 64-bit. RAM upgrade help.

I just purchased a RAM upgrade for my Envy 13 and I was trying to figure out how exactly to access the memory module.  I couldn't find a youtube video for the Envy 13 and reading the maintenance manual provides only partial instructions to access the memory module.  It tells you what you need to do (Disconnect the TouchPad cable 2 from the low insertion force (LIF) connector on the system board) but not how to do it without damaging the computer.  I don't want to permanently sever a cable or anything so I'm looking for help via a link to a video or more detailed instructions on exactly how to safely access the memory module.
I was under the impression that this would be a quick replacement, but the more I read the manual, the more I think that this is going to be a little more complicated than opening up the bottom and removing the current RAM chip and replacing it with the one I have.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

    Here is the Manual:
    Manual
Memory is indeed on the motherboard and getting there requires nearly complete disassembly. See Page 4-26. Not sure how this qualifies as "easy" and if you have not done this before you should get some help. And yes, keep careful track of those screws.

  • Hard Drive and RAM upgrades for latest 15" MBP

I'm minutes from ordering a new MBP. Only concerns are whether I get hte Apple upgrades or shop around.
    I like this Hard Drive...
    http://www.compu2000.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=6433
    And this RAM upgrade...
    http://www.a-power.com/product-10937-311-4
If these are equivalent to the apple options I can save hundreds and get a 320 GB drive, which will make a great portable.
So, does my plan hold water?

You're on your own for support when you do your own upgrades like this, but generally speaking, it works fine.
Note that HDD is less risky than RAM. With RAM you run the risk of unstable behavior that is tougher to diagnose. That said, a quality RAM upgrade and some initial testing with any of many available tools is as good as a factory build.
HDD upgrades are less risky, and I've upgraded (well, replaced after HDD death) ones in my MBPs many many times. I crunch my hard drives more than normal and have to generally replace them about every year. Some of the MBPs don't make this easy, and prepare to get all sorts of cozy with little 0 and 1 sized Phillips screwdrivers and some T6 as well, but it is doable (just not quite for the truly faint of heart).
Again, you're on your own for support once you do this, so weigh that in your decision.

You can hear the HDD spinning but the screen is always black.

Keboard does not respond so I cannot use things like press a key when turning on the computer, etc.
    Mouse light is ok.
I am a newbie with MAC's so excuse me if I'm not doing something right.
    Thanks

    Hello robertin75
Check the ram, if the module has gone bad, has become dislodged or not fully seated in the slot then the iMac will only beep indicating an error and will not startup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2341
I'm not exactly sure which model iMac you have and so it's hard to give specific instructions, but if you check in the User's Guide that came with it you will find the instructions for replacing and installing ram in your model.
If you no longer have the User's Guide you can find out by using the the following link.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1463
or the next one if it happens to be a newer glossy screen aluminum model.

  • Kernel Power error after Win 7 and RAM upgrade

    Hello,
I posted earlier on the subject of win7 and ram upgrades.  I did both and it seemed to go fine.  I did the ram first ... replaced a 667Mhz 1gb with a 800Mhz 2gb.  A couple of days later the computer just shut itself down and restarted.  Since then it has done it another 5 times, seemingly at random.  Yesterday I decided to spend some time looking into it and found the 'event log'.  All the shutdowns are recorded as 'critical'.  A search on the web/here showed other occurences of the fault associated with drivers as much as anything.
After I did the win update I did update almost every driver with ones from this site.
Other than the shutdowns the only issues I have which are of very mild concern are the length of time the fingerprint reader takes to be present and that occasionally the cursor is unavailable for about a minute after logging on. When you try and control it it jumps about anywhere but where you want it to go.   I rolled back the alps driver and that seems to have sorted the cursor issue.
So, details of the shutdown from the event log are as follows.
    Log Name:      System
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power

There's more (I've shown it all below) but it's not that important.  When I looked into it I found details of the problem on the microsoft knowledge base.  Its described here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504.
I believe I fit into scenario 3 for cause and resolution.
So, it seems that win7 and mixed speed ram may be a problem on some computers ... probably only a tiny number, but it looks like the HP3507 is one of them.  I did see somewhere that I could down speed from 667 to 266 which might help with memory compatability but I can't see anywhere on the the insydeH20 bios where to do it.  BIOS is version F18 .... upgraded from F15 as part of the Win7/RAM ugrade.
Before I swap back to the 'old' memory I'll see if anybody here can come up with any ideas.  It may be that I have to sell off the expensive 2gb memory (ddr2 800mhz 200 pin) for £39.99 from maplin at a bargain price and get 2gb of 667Mhz from somewhere.
The full 'detail' regarding the fault is below.
    Bye for now.

    Hi DWeiland and Schwede,
Thanks for your replies. Yes I did the runtime engine registry change and also mass compiled the LV7.1 folder and my sourcecode. I still see the problem as I have set the LV adapter as Lv 7.1.1 runtime engine. Now I have changed it to LV7.1 development system. With this setting, it is not giving any error. Thus I don’t see any problem now. The older version of the code had the adapter as the runtime engine for some reason, now I have changed the setting to the development system. I hope that it shouldn’t be a problem.
    Thanks again!
    Thank you,
    Sasi
